Hello! I am from Argentina and I am glad to see people from China reacting to a game with a traditional theme from those lands, as it helps me to know a little more.
As a Vietnamese and Chinese mixed, I grew up on the story. I've watch every adaptations and the 1986 and 1996 versions hold near and dear to my heart. I choked and cried when I saw the trailer and heard the music. Very nostalgic and legendary. Dragonball, Naruto, beasts anime can be traced to this character. He is the strongest immortal, aside from buddha and guan yin goddess themselves. He is the One and only true Monkey King!!!
I'm Indonesian and I love this "Journey to the west" story so much, I used to watch it on tv when I was a kid. Sun Wukong is just amazing, he is so famous in eastern countries, even in anime like Dragon ball, God of highschool and many more but sadly not much people knows about him, like the very orginal of Sun wukong. But it's still awesome to be able to see it again in 2020 in a game especially, gonna get this quick! 😆
I remember Sun Wukong making a cameo on a children's game called Lex Bookworm Adventures. These two games recompiled many stories, myths and characters from different cultures. I played it when I was a kid and remember pretty much all of it. The game was divided into "books" with ten chapters each. First book was about Greek myth Second book was about Egypt myths and stories, Third book was about classic horror literature and characters (Frankenstein, werewolves, the mummy, etc) Fourth book was about stories for young children (Alice in wonderland, Little red riding hood, etc) Fifth book was about eastern myths (Monkey king, mythical animals that I almost remember, the Four Symbols, etc) And the fifth one was about Sci-Fi stories. I played those games when I was ~8 and replaed them again with my grandmother at my side who explained to me what the creatures in those games really were. I recognised the main character from this game the moment the gameplay trailer began. I'm very happy to see content about this story since it reminds me of my grandmother. It's hard to say this tale marked my life but that might be true. Sorry for my english, I come from latin america, Spanish is my main language.
I discovered Sun Wukong back in 2012 when I was 17 years of age. Journey To The West is a legendary story that people should read, plus the music in the beginning made me smile 😊

2:52 Acutally in the original work, Wukong's staff is described as "having the diameter of a bowl"(碗口粗) after he shrunk it down from the original pillar-size, so the size of the staff in this game is actually more faithful to the story. In most existing portrayals of Wukong, he uses a staff that's around 3cm in diameter, most likely due to it being the common size in traditional martial arts. This way in the live-action TV show, the actor can realistically wield it and perform stunts; and the many different animation series also mostly used this size probably because it's easier to find real-life references to draw from. However, this being a game, they can just mocap an actor holding a standard 3cm staff, and then replace it with a thicker one in the game engine, which is pretty great aspect of modern technology.
I found about Monkey King in a animation when I was little. There was an animated version of "Journey To The West" which aired in India. I remember it was one of the favorite shows of me and my mother. I still remember the scene where wukong tries to get out of the hand of Gautama Buddha.
I’ve been raving about this game since i saw this trailer last month. This was my favorite reaction to it by far. While basically everyone recognized that this looks incredible, only a few seemed to truly appreciate the depth of the mythology that is at play here
This trailer-gameplay looks wonderful. The music is beautiful! Black Myth: Wukong is a re-creation of the epic story: "Journey To The West". I'm in love with a Sun Wukong/ Monkey King, he is so perfect. I waiting this game... Thank you so much for this reaction, Sister Shu!

Since you said you don't know this story, (first time on the channel, assuming you didn't grow up in China), this trailer inspired me to translate Journey to the West into English! Hope this game will be successful. I know I can't really blame them since there's not a lot of exposure about JTTW here in the west, but it's sad when some people thought Sun Wukong is Goku rip off. It's time for people to learn what inspired quite a lot of anime and manga/manhwa out there
For those who are young (child, teenager or young adult) they will see things that will remind them of the Dragon Ball anime and the movie The Forbidden Kingdom (Jack Chan and Jet Li).
Absolutely! Agreed--would be great for audiences to know more about the myth that is the source of inspiration for so many anime series, books, movies, etc.
yes i ve read the story in our side too and we also sort of have a monkey king aka Hanuman ji . the scholer who came to india it seems he went to southern india to find the scriptures and successfully went back to china
In Russia we dont have myths. We have сказка, сказание, былина. They based on words 'telling' and 'to be'. This means that you cannot fantsy something that was not real. Its real and happened but in very ancient times. Maybe not on the physical plane. Astral or mental, if we talk about heaven and underworld
not sure if people noticed but there's a giant heavenly deity on the right when he's fighting warriors in the clouds. I believe that is the general , the one with the pagoda in his hand that traps enemies. I believe he is also Ne Zha's father.
@@RicardoPerez-rz8pu Despite common misconception, Ne Zha is actually a boy, but due to his eternal child like or teenage depictions as well as clothing, his gender appearance is sometimes ambiguous. For example in his early childhood days since he was a baby, he usually wears toddler clothing where its basically a naked apron in the front. Later aged depictions show him wearing earrings and use of heavenly ribbon sash, another staple weapon aside from his Hoop Ring, flame wheels hovering below his feet, and usually his main choice of weapon, the Spear. For some reason I keep associating Japanese Momotaro with Ne Zha since they both are associated with being born from a fruit or flower. In Ne Zha's case he was reborn from a flower after committing suicide to appease the dragon gods for angering them to the point of summoning heavy rain that would flood his town. His father was also originally human and gained divinity/immortal deity status for some reason....The Pagoda pillar used by The General was actually a gift from Guan Ying Puzi (Boddhivista), as the father was concerned about Ne Zha's rebellious and violent streak and wished to teach his son to be more disciplined. Also the current newest CG movie of Ne Zha has got to be the ugliest thing I have ever seen in the Chinese lore surrounding Ne Zha and Wu Kong universe....he's depicted as a demon but that was another misconception people had about him as his origin and birth is related to the heavens.
@@awesomedude2556 if they decide to let us play WuKong's origins that will most likely happen as the appearance of Er Long (Forgot if its ling or long) Shan (Man with third eye) and Ne Zha are quite staple and necessary story elements to Wu Kong's fame and rebellion against Heaven, but the clips seem to be more about switching between the view of the "two Monkey Kings". We do see the fight of WuKong vs Heaven's army, so I do hope we get to play his 'origin story' because that would be serious fanservice and exactly the gameplay we all hoped for. I should also mention that Er Long Shan is the one who cut WuKong's tail almost in half, if not shorter in their battle of wits and strength transforming into animals and inanimate objects to outsmart each other. I don't seem to see that 'cut tail' from the WuKong in the trailer, but that's minor. So far we only see WuKong's fights rebelling against the Heavens and the 'fake wukong' fighting what is presumed to be the aftermath of WuKong's fight with Heaven (and Wukong's downfall with his showdown with the Buddha) It would be interesting to see what kind of story they'd tell. We do see both Monkeys meeting each other, so its amazing we even get to play between two monkeys. Makes sense for gameplay since their powers and therefore mechanics would be the same. It just weirds me out seeing the fake one having literally the same abilities. It makes me want to believe real WuKong's abilities as well as what his staff can do, makes fake wukong pale in comparison in abilities.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't comment on the appearance of a second monkey with a staff. Would love to hear your thoughts on that part.
