In the end, Buddha Tathagata recognized the "six-eared macaque", covered it with a golden bowl, and was beaten to death by Monkey King with a stick.
There has always been a lot of controversy in this place. Some people think that the Buddha who covered the golden bowl with the golden bowl was WuKong, not the "six-eared macaque", so the one who was killed may be WuKong.

This reminds you of Tsushima probably because the Japanese architecture style has learnt a lot from chinese Tang Dynasty, which is also the background of this novel Journey to the West.
Though it is written in 16th century, (most part of)this story exists since Tang already.

Chinese mythology is a very complex system. I can explain the basic concept of the chinese mythology.
First the structure of chinese pantheon. Chinese traditional mythology is called Taoism. But after Buddhism come to China, it got absorbed by Chinese pantheon. The supreme god king governing heaven in taoism is jade emperor. But the one who created the universe was the ancient titan pangu. Pangu died from exhaustion soon after he creates the universe. The jade emperor and three pure one control most of the universe after him. They assigned king Yama to govern the underworld. Four great dragon kings to govern the sea. But they all pledge loyalty to jade emperor. Great goddess Nuwa creates humanity after the creation of the world. Buddha is technically the most powerful entity after the death of pangu. Because Buddhism believe he is one with universe. Therefore both Buddhism god and taoism god show respect to each other, and often work together.
Second is the power structure of chinese mythology. The biggest difference between Chinese mythology and western mythology. Is the fact that in Chinese mythology, mortal can become god by practicing taoism or Buddhism. Which many western mythology can’t. This gives people more hope and give them reason to study taoism and Buddhism. However this freedom also give birth to demon(youkai). In chinese the concept of demon is not the same as west. Chinese demon were once mortal creatures who practiced Taoism or Buddhism. They use the power in evil way and became corrupted. This goes for animal too. Both human and animals have possibilities of becoming demon. That’s why in journey of west there are tiger demon or fish demon. Due to the fact all youkai Practice taoism or Buddhism. In chinese mythology demon are considered very intelligent beings. Also most demon aim to become god, because in chinese mythology gods are the final stage of evolution.
Now we can talk about monkey king wukong and journey of the west. Monkey king is the hero in chinese mythology. He’s just like Thor in Norse mythology or Hercules in Greek. Monkey king was loved by chinese people. But monkey king wasn’t a righteous figure when he first appeared. Monkey king was a stone monkey who came from the magical stone of goddess nuwa. He was a trickster and a morally neutral existence. He soon became the king of monkeys and learn taoism under a great Taoist saint. During the process he learn immortality and become so powerful that almost no god can beat him. After he gain such strength, he went to the dragon king palace and acquired weapons and armor. Went to underworld and delete his name from book of death. He soon make alliance with demon kings in the mortal realm. Making him one of the greatest demon king in existence. When jade emperor discovered this, he give wukong a job in heaven. Which wukong gladly accept. But jade emperor still didn’t quite understand how strong wukong is. So he give him a position as stable boy for taming heavenly horses. Wukong feels extremely humiliated. So he quit the job and give him self the title of great sage equal to heaven in revenge. Heaven sees wukong’s refusal of the job as an insult. But after long discussion, they give wukong the title of great sage equal to heaven and invite him once more to live in heaven. As guardian of immortal peach garden. But monkey screw up his job again, because he end up eating all the peaches and even steal some pills of immortality. That finally angered the jade emperor. He dispatched the entire army of Heaven to arrest wukong. Monkey king was unrivaled in power even for gods. Only the great warrior god Erlang could fight him in equal strength. They eventually did capture the monkey through trap, but can’t find any way to kill him. Because he’s so bloody immortal, nothing can hurt him. He eventually break loss again and causing even greater havoc in heaven. Jade emperor finally calls the buddha himself to fix the problems. Buddha being the strongest beings in existence, easily subdue wukong, and trap him under a magical mountain. 500 years later Buddha send a chinese monk name Xuan Zang to retrieve the holy scripture from India. He choose wukong as one of monks body guards. Finally wukong was freed from the prison. But this time he humbly protect the monk in his journey to the west. During the process he starts to respect the monk. Also becoming a more humble and righteous person. He eventually was reworded by the Buddha and become a Buddha himself.
The CEO of the company came out and said this was a recruitment video and not an advertisement video. This game is nowhere near being done because they have a problem hiring new people for the project, and he made an apology because he wasn't expecting the recruitment video to go viral. (Because people took it as an advertisement).
He went on and made a bunch of criticism that no one even notice. Something about the Water had no physic and does not interact with people stepping on it, and golden cicadas don't look like a cicada, and the fur of the final boss has are too static and have no movement, and there is frame rate drop he didn't like in the Musou Battle in the end, etc... He concluded his post by saying he appreciate the hype, but they have A LOT of work to do, so they are gonna go back to work and people should not expect to hear anything from them for a good while.

This game is a re-creation of "journey to the west", This story from the Ming Dynasty novel' Journey to the west', but the story itself comes from the real event of Tang Dynasty monk Tang Xuanzang going to ancient Tianzhu to seek Buddhist scriptures.
he story of the game itself is different from the novel and the real history, so it is called "black myth". and in ancient china myth world which WUKONG lives in, humans can get supernature power to become a "god/神仙". Here, monster/demon is not always evil, they are just different from humans.
In many stories, the monster can live with humans or even have a marriage with a human.
in those stories, humans are often more evil or stupid or greedy or coward...
The rank or class of this world is roughly like this:
god > monster > human > animal.
This rank is a metaphor of ancient china society, but not enough room to explain it here, knowing the rank is ok.

The giant wolf boss at @ is their leader, he identifies himself as a Taoism priest,
and get a Taoism name "灵虚子" or "灵虚真人"
he has a friend who is a black bear. but not shown in this game.
the minor boss at @ is also a wolf. check his feet, you can see that he is a wolf wearing human cloth,
not a human with a wolf head.

you guys may be confused why there is another monkey king with better weapon and better armor stop us from finishing the boss.

as a person who love the sun wukong/sun go kong journey to the west story and have seen a few different rendition of the tv series i'm so exited for this game! can't wait to play it!
very vivid visualization of the classic novel character. I love it. specially when he pulled some hair off and blew it into wind and the hair became multiple wu kong joining the fight, literally goosebumps.

What's amazing is this trailer wasn't to get fans excited, they did it to point out their flaws (the company mentions where the frames lag, it was one of the boss fights) and to try to recruit more developers to work on it
That's him, who he was or the legend he will become. This is an inwards journey as much as it is an outward one. The mythology and lore of Wukong is an awesome and lengthy one that dates back hundreds of years.
The boss fight is in 黑风山 Black Wind Mountain, Guanyin temple originally in the novel chapter 16. Where the Wolf 灵虚子 is a friend of the "Head" of Black Wind Mountain, which the Head boss of black wind mount is a black grizzly 黑熊怪. The boss in the video, the wolf went there to celebrate Black Grizzly‘s birthday. 灵虚子 also brought 2 "Golden Revitalizers" as a gift, but he got killed by Wukong - the monkey king midway.
Wukong- the monkey king can shape-shift into 72 different creatures, that's why you see him throughout the video as a golden cicada. He was born from a rock, a rock has been getting all the earthen sun and moon essence, that is why he could change to a larger monkey and smash the ground. And also the way he "parrys" the attacks is one of his other abilities, called 铜头铁臂 direct translation is the Copper head and iron arm which makes him durable to physical attacks. The move he freezes others is called 定身术 - Immobilization or paralyzation.
His fur(S)/hair can make clones of himself and other things.
I guess one of this game's system is to be able to get the defeated mini-bosses' weapon as artifacts and use them against the bosses, that is why he transforms into the wolf using the flame spear.
When he was trying to finish off 灵虚子, he got blocked by another version of himself? I assume the play through character represents the dark side of the monkey king? These are just my guesses.
His Weapon is a stick/staff called 如意金箍棒 - the Monkey King Bar. Which can elongation, shorten, largen, and shrink. That's why you see him puts/pull it to/from his ear. In the end, the cloud he was riding is called 筋斗云. He can also travel 180K kilometers with one single somersault. Also at the very end, that is him 大闹天宫 - battles in heaven. Chapter 4-6 in the novel.
All the bosses in the ending quick flash are all present some gods or demons.

In the novel Journey to the West. Sun Wukong knows a technique where we called it the "72 transformations." So during the boss fight when the monkey boy pulled out the new weapon, he also transformed to the previous enemy he defeated.
They are a small studio and didn't release anything whatsoever both in and outside China, so they didn't expect a huge not to mention international popularity :D That's why there's no English subtitle in there

It's pretty awesome that the indie developing company is a 30-member team. They released this gameplay also to recruit more people. If lucky, the game will come out in 2 to 5 years. The unfortunate part is that some large competitor companies see this as a threat and are trying to recruit away employees from Game Science to disassemble the dev team, in turn put a stop to the project. So if unlucky, the game might not make it to release. We can only hope. And only time will tell.

Dev use weibo(twitter in China) thanked the fans and excitement in the community and state that this video is for recruitment purpose only. they want more ppl to join them as they are currently only 30 strong. they will stay quiet from now on until their project ready to meet the community.
