I think my most favorite part about the beginning of these let's plays is anyone who fully knows the story, especially Chinese players, immediately calls bullshit on Erlang saying he beat Wukong. And even here, he still didn't win fair and square.
@@smilesmileqin he meant that we all know that it was headband. Chinese, being aware of JTTW stories as a part of their childhood know that Wukong was defeated due to the effect of headband, not due to Earlang being stonger than him. SPOILERS.....If you have completed the game.... Also Earlang was scheming with Wukong against the Celestials. Every secret chapter was done as that scheme so you can avoid getting headbanded again as a reincarnation.
Yes, I also believe The Destined One is a Clone from OG Wukong. It was so awesome watching you play as you have your knowledge QuickTakes, PLEASE keep them coming.
I live in Europe and didn't know anything about this great story until this game came out. It saddens me that our cultures seem so far away from each other when we could share so much instead.
In modern times Chinese has a much better understanding of the Western culture than westerners of Chinese. In the Middle time(before & after Macro Polo) westerners actually has a better understanding of the Chinese culture than the Chinese of the western culture.
Wukong was unable to best Erlang when he was in his "Sage equal to heaven" phase. since they both know all the same skill, but Erlang is just more experience, Wukong has to flee in their last encounter. that's why Erlang call him his defeated foe...
No it's not like that. When they fought they were very equal in combat and no one could decide the winner After many rounds erlang and wukong turned into their giant form. This scared wukongs monkey army and they scattered. This made wukong to retreat or else the army of heaven will kill the monkeys That's the only reason wukong had ran They were equal in fighting And also the only reason lord erlang defeated the great sage was because laozi hit wukong from heaven with his golden ring Which knocked wukong out and it resulted in the heaven subduing wukong
you should be one of the 3 special strands of hair given to him by GuanYin from the original novel... seeing as when you die u become a hair...... or as you put it a subsequent reincarnation...
That little crown on his head was the one that the Buddha put on him to bind him and control Wukong, there it was activated and Erlang was able to defeat him
I'll be honest too, I missed it too on my first time playing, but now that I know, it annoys me that after spotting the monkey, people miss the fact that you need to pickup the skandha of form right there in chapter 1 🤣
I get the enjoy watching person playing this game, knows how the story, the name in Mandarin, idid't have the urge to tell him what is that or what he/her is anymore😂
If your willing to drop from 60fps it os beautiful on Quality mode, just need to give your eyes time to adjust to the lower frame rate! 100% will take GOTY I think!
The real story is this: at the beginning, Erlang Shen is actually a friend of Wukong (aka Monkey King). They both have experience rebelling against the Heavenly Court, so they appreciate each other. Wukong wants to get rid of the tight hoop and seek freedom, but he realizes that the hoop can only be removed if he dies. Therefore, Erlang Shen and Wukong reach a gentleman's agreement: Erlang Shen will kill Wukong in a show for the Heavenly Court to see. Wukong knows that six relics of the great sage will be split after his death. After several years, a Destined One will overcome many difficulties, collect all six relics of the great sage, revive the spirit of the Monkey King, inherit his will, and truly gain freedom. The first five of these six relics of the great sage are placed by Erlang Shen on the monsters in the first five chapters, serving as tests for the Destined One. If the five monsters are successfully defeated, it can be proved that the Destined One may be the chosen one. However, the location of the last relic (mind relic) is deliberately hidden in the plot. After Wukong was killed, Erlang Shen secretly stole the last relic when no one was paying attention and killed all the heavenly witnesses to protect this item, making himself the final obstacle to guard it. Since killing Wukong, he has been waiting for the appearance of the Destined One in the mural. Now, back to the game plot: If you don’t defeat Erlang Shen first and go directly to the body of the Great Sage, you will wear the golden hoop, symbolizing that you haven’t yet rid yourself of the heavenly shackles, haven’t resurrected the real Wukong, and aren’t the true Destined One, so you will have to restart the game. But, If you defeat Erlang Shen first, you will obtain the last magic item, truly resurrect Wukong, inherit all his will, become the real Destined One, and soar into the sky to once again rebel against the gods of heaven with freedom. (Note: The first time he soared into the sky to rebel against the gods, Wukong was still a monkey with divine power, which happened before *Journey to the West*). Erlang has been guarding the last relic for Wukong. He is the leader of the seven saints of MeiShan (Plum Blossom Mountain). Throughout the storyline, Erlang’s subordinates, the Meishan Six Yaoguai, have been assisting us. These include: - The white-robed scholar, who helps you obtain the fireproof mantle. - The wild boar in yellow, who assists in acquiring the wind tamer. - The bamboo hat wearer, who guides you to the true Maitreya Buddha. - The centipede man, who helps you find the Embroidered Needle. - The bull demon, who leads you to the final passage to Meishan. At the end of the game, the Destined One regains some of Wukong’s memories while holding all five relic pieces. However, it is revealed that the final relic piece-Wukong’s lost memories or mind-is still missing. If players unlock all secrets and defeat Erlang Shen on the secret mountain, the true ending shows that the Destined One retrieves this final memory. This memory recounts Wukong’s journey to the West in an anime style, starting from the end of the story and moving backward. In the true ending, just before the crown is placed on him, the Destined One transforms back into Sun Wukong, now fully restored with all six relics and free from the gods' control. The crown, created by Buddha and placed by Guan Yin, was meant to control Wukong, but his desire for freedom led him to gamble his life to escape this control. The Destined One, revealed to be a clone of Wukong, succeeds in freeing himself and now lives independently, no longer bound by the gods. The game concludes with Wukong victorious, now free of the crown and fully himself, as the Celestial Symphony plays a powerful rendition of the classic Journey to the West theme. While the game presents a dark, twisted new story for Wukong, some iconic elements like his cape and epic battles are missing, but it still does justice to this beloved childhood hero.
