Although the S6 team insists that they will continue support for Palia, I'm really worried. All these layoffs are telling me that the premium shop is not giving them the money they thought it would. I hope they come up with a viable solution that benefits all parties. As buggy as it is, it's still a wonderful game that I enjoy logging into and spending my time on.
The problem was everything was ridiculously expensive and didn't work well. I bought one dress and was regularly running around with my skirt looking like a bum cloak for my underwear. They should have lowered the prices, broken them up more, introduced far more pets, expanded hair/makeup/accessories and given the different gliders different visual trailing effects. Then more people would have happily bought many items at a reasonable price.
I really hope they're looking into new monitization methods and just need to finalize some things before implementing them. I feel like people are so vocal in comments and discords and on reddit. So many people have mentioned things that S6 could change that would encourage people to spend more money. I just hope they pick something and implement it in a way that will work. I don't want to lose Palia!!
I can't believe they are not making enough money from these outfits. So many people are buying multiples and there are thousands of players if not more. I spent around 70$ and I am done until the game comes out of beta. This should be their priority. I agree with splitting the outfits though.
@@airyspaw It's because the outfits cost silly amounts of money that nobody has. I refuse to spend what I consider a lot of money on a game that I know I'm just throwing money away on. If Amazing World (which was a cute cosy mmo that closed about 6 years ago now) closed when it had LOADS of minigames and character/base customisation, I don't think Palia would do well even if it did visually look more mature. Gantz Amazing World did ask for a subscription of $2 a month, but its downfall was its expensive real world cost for furniture pieces which it anticipated would make more money. It was also mostly aimed at small children and had poor advertising.
All they need to do for palia's premium shop, is be able to buy individual items and lower the cost quite a bit. People usually end up buying alot of things when they're cheap.
I love Palia, I've been playing since launch, and I WANT to give them money. I probably would have given them over $200 by now if they had smaller purchases with a variety of things like furniture, pets, etc. but I can't justify the purchase of an outfit for $30 that I may not want to wear most of the time. It's not worth it. I am so baffled by this business decision. I'm going to take that $30 Palia wants for a single outfit and buy a whole other game like Tales of Mistria.
Loving the Sunnyside Up News! It makes Mondays something to look forward to. I think the Palia partners could provide some excellent ideas and feedback to help the team find ways to balance the prices and offer other variables. I hope they listen.
Thank you for another great start to the week!! I did the demo for paper trail and it was sooo good! I love Palia, but I just don't understand the clothing prices... I would *happily* spend $50+ on outfits if I could buy outfits for like $5 each. But $50 for something like the mushroom outfit in all the colours?! When I only want one colour from each set? I don't even spend that on clothes IRL. And I'm always worried that they'll bring out something new that I'll like more, so I never commit to buying any of the premium clothes even though I like them so much! I would probably have spent loads by now if they were much cheaper and I could confidently switch between outfits and not worry about waiting for the "best" one. I feel like they would make way more money overall even if they slashed the prices to 10% of what they are now, because SO many people would buy them!
I agree. SO many people are saying this and it seems like S6 is just not hearing them. I've already spent the same amount of money in Palia that I would for a premium complete game because I wanted to support them. I can't justify spending more out of my budget : (

Love the video Sarah! I’m recently got back into Sun Haven after I found quality of life improvement mods for the game. It helps dramatically to not get overwhelmed with the abundance of content that game has to offer and the fact that they are still adding new features. Yay me and my brother were waiting for Dave's dcl I love that game I am so excited for Magical Delicacy I fall in love with it when I saw Sarah's demo video. About S6 I think we will see effects of layoffs in next 2 months. It is not easy to prepare an update in a month. I hope they can plan other ways to keep Palia alive .

I know the creators of Fields of Mistria have said the game's art style is Sailor Moon inspired, but I also can't help but compare it to 80s anime too like Voltron Force (which was MY childhood lol). Regardless I will be getting the game in early access Day 1.
i agree that something else is needed for palia. i know i try to get something each month when i can, but like we all know its a bit expencive and i can only get one or two things without breaking bank. As for disney dreamlight vally... ive honestly grown rather exhausted with keeping up with all the events and stuff. i cant remeber the last time i actualy got my snapchat reward (i think you now have to physically 'log in' to get them and i just forget so no rewards for me) and they put up the price for the starpath. (though im glad they fixed the pricing on the moonstones a little bit.)

I don't really know if a battle pass would be the answer for S6. I don't really think it's a sustainable business model and I think instead of having it free to play they should have originally made it cost money to play lol. I don't really know if they'd have enough resources now to make enough items to put in a battle pass to make it worth the purchase of it either. I mean there's already some glitches with furniture and clothes that exist in the game and that was before laying off 40% of the team....

I played Palia a lot when it started beta testing (I think I was in the 2nd or 3d batch of beta testers added). I was so frustrated when buying outfits left me with enough coins to be too much, but not enough to buy anything else in the game. In every survey, I stated multiple times I was not going to buy anything else, if there wasn't some way to spend the remaining coins. I finally left when there were no meaningful updates in a while, and what updates there were, were incredibly laggy even after patching. I was originally interested in Palia and learned about it from its plans to come on Nintendo Switch. And their Nintendo release was...not great. For some reason, I even stopped receiving email updates from Palia, and I just learned that they have already been released on Steam. And it's still in beta! After watching the situation with Palia, I always ask overly excited people waiting for Paralives or similar games to manage their expectations.
I could have easily predicted Palia wouldn't last long. To begin with I agree on them asking for too much money for cosmetic items, (the problem with making a "free" game is that it attracts people that don't have much money in the first place), the game is good - until it becomes grinding out ridiculous amounts of materials and friendship in realtime is too much. The game design itself requires a LOT more needed to be added to it for it to continue to be an "mmo" especially to compete with other "mmos" (their typing of their game not mine.) I personally think it needs a lot more activities, places to explore, stuff to collect - which bored players know isn't coming because of the staff layoffs. It definitely needs more community focused activity, the market with the chapaa chase wasn't very community focused at all, it quickly became competitive which isn't very "cosy". I stand by my words when it first came out - it's difficult for it to pass as even a game because it has too little content even for that, never mind an "mmo".

I’m not surprised with Palia. I got flack for saying it but a games as a service approach for a cozy farming sim is not financially viable. Even Disney DV had a box price and the Disney coffers to float it. It’s a shame but they should have seen how many games as a service are fighting for player engagement during a global financial crisis.
I'm so worried and upset over the S6 layoffs. The community has given them such good feedback & advice, but they just keep ignoring it. No one wants to buy a $30-40 in-game outfit - it pisses people off and makes them want to spend NOTHING out of resentment. If they made costumes and customizations that were priced affordably ($5-10 per each), people would cheerfully buy those far more frequently with no negative feelings whatsoever. They're just shooting themselves in the foot at this point.
A note on Palia and their monetisation, with the conversion rate here in Australia it is cheaper to buy a real outfit than one in Palia. They need to have a three tier system. Cheap outfits for impulse buying, mid range for something nicer and the specialty outfits they already have. Also more pets would be amazing even if they were purchasable and I’m not just saying that because I want a plume hound…
Thinking about restarting wylde flowers. I hope thats paper games does one of the summer showcase streams so infinity nikki will get more support. Maybe if we get enough it'll be more than just a small cozy city and ancient library that we get to explore
I saw the writing on the wall with Palia as soon as I heard about their monetization plans. They thought they’d make a killing on overpriced “skins” like some fps. Then ignored feedback on monetization and responded defensively about it. Another live service game that will flop. They should’ve just made a single player with coop game and sell actual content expansions.
Palia should follow the Disney Dreamlight Valley pass. Premium currency you can buy or collect and events where you get exclusive stuff just by playing the game
S6 insisted they paid a lot of money for market research that assured them this was a successful business model and that the players would not buy more just because the prices are lower. They were betting on the whales to carry the game. I dont feel cozy gamers are the same demographic as whales.
I was excited about Palia up until I heard that it was going to be a free to play MMO. Because of that, I still haven't touched it. I do think that the game could have been more successful if it was just a single player or co-op experience with a single price and no gaas systems. Very excited for trailer season though! Sgf and the cozy game showcase are some of my favorite events of the year 😁
Tbh, I play it as a single player and very rarely need other players for help on stuff. As for the free to play aspect, there's zero need to pay any money as it's literally just cosmetics and nothing game changing. I'd say give it a try, it's free anyways, and if you don't like it, it never cost you any money. Think of it like a demo, but it's the full game.
