Hi everyone, due the popularity of this question, I thought I would let you know that at 6:05 I talk about exactly why I do NOT add black pepper. Hope that helps!
From what I understand black pepper is necessary to activate the turmeric and I've heard this from many sources
Joyous Health inflammation is the root of aaaallllll Illness.. go out with me your fit
Minahh many turmeric powder already has the pepper included
You're hot. Can you do videos in a skimpy bikini top?
I guess it's kinda randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to watch new series online ?
*Every Indian grandmother must be feeling like they are trendsetters*
prantha lover yes totally!
A Pakistani grandmother too :D Its a staple over here as well.
Omg turmeric this is plenty in my mother's kitchen , you cannot miss it in Indian cuisine 💕💕🌼🌼🌼
Pritha Starr yum! Lucky you!
100% true
I've made this 3 days in a row omg.its amazing. Thank you so much. I'm 3 days no coffee this has been my substitute. 😊
Glad to hear you're loving it!! It's a fave in my home too :)
I am also thinking of substituting this for my morning coffee.
I tried this yesterday for the 1st time and felt “activated” even before my morning coffee 😂
When I introduced this to my sister she said the very same thing!!! (I use a slightly different recipe.)
This is so good. Added just a little French vanilla cream and it was so delish. I will swap this for hot coco on these cold winter evenings!
Yes you will love it!
U can also make a healthy vegan hot chocolate cause the healthy kind of chocolate cocoa not the processed Hershey’s stuff is really good for u. There’s lots of really good vegan hot coco powder they has superfoods and really good clean ingredients and then just add whatever plant milk u like and u can now drink this turmeric ginger drink and hot coco!
I know it's an old video but it's new to me:
1. Add the milk before the hot water - hot water straight onto Raw Honey will destroy a lot of the goodness the honey is bringing.
2. I use a plastic sports water bottle exclusively for making this, I don't care if the plastic stains from the turmeric as it's the only thing it is used for - easy to drink from that without mess, and easier to mix it all together.
3. I know you said you don't need black pepper in this, personally I think it improves the flavour of the Ginger by giving it slightly more background heat - all preference though.
I’m sure this goes without saying, as she is a nutritionist, however there was no mention of it and some people do not know. For better health use Ceylon cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon, the type most prolific on grocery store shelves, is toxic to the liver and kidneys. Once I switched to Ceylon the difference I noticed was the richness of flavor. It takes a bit longer to blend Ceylon cinnamon, but so worth it. Thank you for this recipe, I can’t wait to try it! Many blessings to all.
I use Ceylon cinnamon and I love it! Never would go back to cassia.
Me too...ceylon cinnamon.
where do you get Ceylon cinnamon ?
What abt the grounded we find in stores. It doesn't say anything
The research shows that adding ground pepper increases absorption 2,000 percent. I think I will stick with the evidence from research and add the pepper.
interesting
mmm
I agree
147DegreesWest I put turmeric, pepper, and honey in warm water every day. Sometimes I put it in my coffee at the end of breakfast.
That's definitely true actually the absorption of turmeric is augmented with ginger and ground pepper and olive oil and with these 3 ingredients you will have the perfect combination for a good absorption of the turmeric and get all the good benefits of turmeric 😚 hope that's help someone 😇
Add black pepper. I also top mine off with some whip cream and sprinkle nutmeg on top!!!
Thank you for this. I spend a lot of time in the morning standing at the stove stirring my golden milk, it never occurred to me to put my paste in a Mason jar and add my warm almond milk and sweetener and just shake and go...lol. I will definitely give a try.
Enjoy it!
THIS HAS CHANGED MY LIFE! One of my past obstacles to making my golden milk has been the mess that it would make in a pot and cups and etc. All the stains and mess, oyyy! Now, it all happens in one convenient jar. I LOVE IT! Thank you
Yay! I'm happy to hear it helped you. It's just as yummy as doing it the other way :)
This was delicious. Since I only had on hand Almond Breeze AlmondMilk vanilla flavor, I omitted adding the 1/2C of filtered water. I did add 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper based on the comments. Heated all ingredients in a saucepan except the honey. Onced mildly heated put all in blender then added honey. Came out nice and frothy. Thank you for a great recipe.
I add turmeric, black pepper and coconut oil. It’s delicious and healthy and also
Boots immunity 💕
Hi would you mind sharing your exact recipe please.
From one Joy to another - thanks for sharing this recipe Joy! Turmeric latte is my go to thing on every alternate nights and specially in winters. Here in India we call it “haldi doodh” and it’s damn good for inflammation and muscle sprains! Loved your channel so clicked the subscription button as well! 🙏🏽✨🧿💚✌🏻
also love this drink on cold days or when im feeling a bit under the weather
space cake It’s perfect for a cold rainy day
Black Pepper powder is a must for maximum curcumin absorption from the turmeric.
I think you seen other multiple comments saying that then you just repeated it.
At the end of the video she explains why pepper was not needed I want to know if what she said is true
black pepper powder is included to reduce is kapha dosh
Hi I really enjoyed your video you make me happy , and I want to know the benefits of drinking this latte thank you 🥰
This is so very YUMMY!!!! Really hits the spot when you want a snack right before bed or during the day. Love this EASY recipe!
So happy you enjoy it Kerry!
kerry king it’s helps with sleep if consumed before bed
Turmeric is a great Indian spice and it's used in Indian cooking, daily and for many centuries. It's a fantastic spice for inflammation.
VALERIE K. WILFRED yes agreed! And so yummy!
Great! Going to make some using oat milk as I have a family history of Cancer so need to avoid the estrogen and IGF-1 in dairy. Thanks for sharing
The weird thing is, I started doing this about 10 years ago just as an easy way to get turmeric into me each day because I can't handle swallowing capsules. So I just came up with the idea in my own head that it would be really easy to get it down as a warm, spiced, creamy drink. I had no idea "golden milk" was an ancient Ayurvedic remedy or that turmeric lattes were going to become so popular. I wish I had; I'd have made a video, too! I have it before bedtime and it's SOOOOO comforting, especially when I'm not feeling great, which is usually (I have a chronic illness). I do always add black pepper because I love that extra kick of spice, plus I figure it couldn't hurt. And sometimes when I'm tired or lazy, I just put half a tablespoon of turmeric into cocoa. Why not? I'm all about getting it in any way possible. LOL
That's awesome, you're ahead of the times! Mmmm, I never thought of putting cacao in it, but that would be a nice combination. Thanks for sharing.
I'm going to try that for my daughters who is 9 & 6 yrs old. Just put it in there and see if they'll notice. Thanks✨
I just tried it and it tastes delicious 😊. Thanks for posting.
So happy you enjoyed it!!
This should be delish! Will try. Thank you for this easy recipe. In the sub-continental cuisine (I'm from Bangladesh) turmeric is added to every curry, lentil soups. Pepper, ginger and garlic are also staple. Now we know what kept us healthy and well for hundreds of years.
Yes! Yum yum and yum!
Cheers to your health. I grow organic turmeric. Small farm. No chemicals or fertilizers ever used!!! Love and light
Angela Curtis that’s amazing! Where is your farm?
@@joyoushealth Yes!! Thank you. I love it! North west Florida!
Angela Curtis whenever I’m in south Florida visiting my in-laws my family and I visit the farmers market in west palm. I buy organic turmeric there. That’s so awesome! Thank you for taking care of our planet and farming organically! ❤️❤️❤️
@@joyoushealth that's us wonderful. It it my duty and pleasure. Love and light!!
Hi Joy, This video is so amazing. I can't wait to try this!!! Btw, you hair looks so healthy and beautiful. I am just starting my healthy journey; and your channel inspires me.
Thank you so much for visiting! Hope you enjoy my vids!
I had the same thought about her hair, so beautiful! Excited to try this recipe.
Thank you for sharing. It's taste good with almond milk. Love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yum, also you could make this the night before, keep in fridge and next day heat in a pot on stove for warm/hot drink
I’m 100 percent making this and I have all the ingredients!!! So excited!!
rita holdorff yay! You’re gonna love it!
Joyous Health yayyy also sorry for all my typos lol but I fixed it so we’re good!!! 😊😊
I love this video. thank you. gonna make some now, I have all the ingredients and the jar too.
Wonderful recipe..called"haldi wala doodh" in india
S.pachauri love that!
Maybe not needed, but I like the taste of black pepper..so I use it a lot and cracked red pepper too. If the jar or spoon does not melt, it isn't spicy enough!
Eeep! I hope your jar or spoon doesn't melt haha
"If the jar or spoon does not melt, it isn't spicy enough!"
Hilarious!!...😀
First time trying it, it’s so amazing, thanks for sharing.
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Thanks for explaining why there is no need for black pepper in this recipe.
Wow. Yeah I love the taste! I did recipe with almond milk, and put a glop of coconut _oil_ in there, and there's a bit of a greasy feel on your lips, but really helped balance the taste for me. (Used full amounts of tumeric &c so it's pretty spicy on my stomach otherwise). *Thanks!* 🤗
Melan Choly glad you enjoyed it! If you have coconut butter that makes it creamy and smooth not oily like the coconut oil. Maybe try that next time? Glad you liked it!
@@joyoushealth Def. am picking up the coconut butter! I just had only the oil on hand, and it was still a surprisingly tasty latte. I'm on day 3 of this, and to me, it's equal to regular lattes (I drink espresso-lattes or a chai latte tea daily, for the flavor). These ingredients now have their own space in my shelf so I can make this a staple! Might try to add avocado pulp for the creaminess when I get a chance, just to see.
I love this recipe so easy simple and delicious and healthy I love it thank you love and blessings from Australia ❤️🙂
That's the best one I have ever tasted 😊Thank you
Useful info on when black pepper is needed. Thank you
Thanks for sharing wonderful receipi 👌
I am going to try.
Stay safe.
God bless you.
Love this. Gonna try it. Thanks
Glad I found you. This is awesome and I'm glad you're a real holistic nutritionist. Thank you.
Aw I'm happy you found me too! Thanks for stopping by here :)
One thing about adding black pepper with tumeric. It increases the anti inflammatory properties of tumeric. It does not block absorption of any of the other components of tumeric. It's the whole range of phytonutrients acting together that give us those benefits which curcumin by itself can't match, or with black pepper can't match.
I am kinda worried because I read an article which says that I shouldn't actually mix honey with hot water coz it destroys the good properties of the honey. But all your videos are very beneficial for me , been suffering from eczema for years and you helped me a lot. I guess honey on hot water is fine. Lol
Cleaned out smucker jelly hard jam hard work perfectly!! Will not explode!
Joyous Health, 👍😲 wow thats great, im gonna try it as im always out of time preparing something to eat or drink...thankyou!
CoachingWithLove79 awesome, enjoy!
I will try that, but will add black pepper to help with it absorb in my body.
I make mine in the blender without water just hot or cold coconut milk to make it more creamy and 1 clove
You’re just the cutest!!
wow ,glad i stumbled in here i been eating tumeric roots by them selfs this sounds much more delightful! You are lovely;)
I'm a beekeeper, so I got my fresh honey and ready to try this out!
How did you make this gorgeous hairstyle? I definitely need tutorial! Pleeease!
I am starting to have Turmeric as a health suplement. Thank you.
I'll try the golden milk
Proud to be an indian. And our Indian food and drinks. Like turmeric milk.
I read somewhere that hot liquid shouldn't be add to honey , cool water stir honey in, than add hot water while stirring , breaks done honey slowly.
I use a lot of turmeric in just about everything I eat , ginger too depends on what I cook, good for people with R.A. like me .
I need to try this! More anti-inflammatory foods FTW!
Absolutely delish!
I must try this today! It looks so good!
Yay! Let me know what you think :)
Joyous Health I loved it! I will need to make this often 💛💛💛. I share it on my Instagram too 😊 (Krista_Kupcake) 💛💛💛
So happy to hear that! Thanks for sharing it :)
It’s great to know honey doesn’t go bad because I have many jars that have become hard. I don’t throw them out, but just keep buying new ones, lol. What do you suggest to do when it gets hard. Just heat it up?
You can do that, warm it slowly if you don't want to destroy the enzymes, but it's still rich in amino acids and B vitamins!
This is crystallization, and I actually love when my honey dose this becuase it tells me that it's real honey, kinda like when olive oil thickens and emulsifys in cold temperatures. This type of honey is still perfect but is amazing to use as a face, and body scrub as well! The crunchy texture is grate with smooth peanut butter as well!
I put my jar in the summer for like 1/2 hour. Making sure it doesn't get too hot. Afternoon sun
@@lovemidnight6377 any oil will thicken in colder temperatures...It is in no way an indication that the oil is real. Also it's impossible for an oil to emulsify by itself. An emulsion is a mixture of two or more liquids that are normally immiscible (unmixable or unblendable)
Sooooooooooooooo Good. Thank You.
will def try this great recipe love ur vids
I can't wait to make this I suggest for people that are paranoid of a mason jar exploding on them just put all the ingredients into a pot and then add the boiling water safety first.
😂 I was literally waiting for the video to end to tell you that you should add some black pepper (and also in the meantime thinking to myself "it's weird, it says in the description that she is a nutritionist so she should know this, but she's not adding any...") and you addressed it on the last minute! So, sorry for doubting you and thank you for teaching me that! For me it is too expensive to buy ground turmeric instead of ground curcumin so I will still have to add the pepper but it was great to learn that 😊
Raquel Pinto So turmeric is expensive i agree. Can teach you something to do and its great. Buy turmeric looks like ginger from the vegetables section. I think 4 pieces are about $3.40. Take them home, cut them and dry them in the sun for 4 days. When they’re fully dry they will shrink to almost half the size. Ground them up in small coffee processor and voila! You have ground fresh turmeric for use :)
Bassam Al-Kaaki this is an incredible tip! 🙏
The piperine in pepper helps our body absorb more of the turmeric.
@@donnaleveron5711 Adfraid I agree. I've heard that without the pepper, the turmeric is MUCH LESS effective...so I add pepper (& of course, add the honey AFTER the milk, as the boiling water is going to destroy the benefits of using RAW UNPATSTEURIZED honey...surely that's obvious?).
Raquel Pinto You could grow your own turmeric and grind it up. If you buy one tuber in the grocery store and grow it.
Add the black pepper, piperine, yes its needed even with ground turmeric. I'd add some real butter or olive oil, just a tea spoon of either. Important note: Even ground organic turmeric has been found to have small traces of lead. Adds to the shipping weight = $$$$, FDA over looks it. Grind up the root yourself.
Best hair on UA-cam!
One question how much is a "Schlopp" :) - Drink looks yummy, thanks for this.
Haha! That's my favourite measurement to use :)
Sounds so german lmao
I'm making this now. But I only have fresh ginger. I'm making ginger water instead of just hot wate if that makes sense. Than I'll add everything else. Hope it comes out well.
sounds delicious!
You can even plant the turmeric you got from the market, that if you are garden person
Do you know if you can get too much tumeric? I'm in nerve pain. So I'm trying to do whatever I can to get out of it.
YOU are the first one I know who is saying no black pepper needed. Everyone seems to have almost the same recipe on the internet.
Hopefully more people will take note! It's really unnecessary!
Yes, and thank you for that! I was wondering why in Ayurveda pepper is not used when using turmeric. Now I know why 😃.
Isn’t there a health benefit using turmeric with pepper I believe it boosts absorption, I could be wrong though.
Chad Clarke yes it helps with absorption. I will keep making mine with black pepper
Kayene peper is necesary to add to tumernic because this helpt the curcumine from tumeric to fix it in your body. Otherwise only tumernic is not completely absorbed in your body. Adding peper is 100% healthy and effectieve.
This looks really good, I'm going to try it! Also your hair is amazing!! 😍😍
Thank you so much!!
'lll
Made this today ... each seep ... going .. Wow... Wow... Wow !
I added a Tbsp of nut butter though.
Thanks !
Zalinda Sani that sounds good!
dear, when is the best time to drink turmeric latte?
Can’t wait to try 😋
Loved the simplicity of the recipe! Thanks Joy!

Aw I'm so happy to hear that!
Finally going to make this today.
Awesome!
You need to use Ceylon Cinnamon to keep liver damage to a minimum.
Ceylon Cinnamon is from Ceylon rite? 😈
Is that to say that liver damage occurs from this mix??
David Wall Great tip! Didn’t know that
Ceylon cinnamon is the best.
Shouldn't you be adding some black pepper?
I’m so excited to see this ! I don’t have a blender so this would be a great alternative to incorporate into my morning routine
Might opt to add the honey after the milk to avoid reducing potency
I made mine without the pepper and it still works.
Yes, that's great! I actually advise to have it without black pepper because it can actually inhibit absorption of the curcumin. If you're using turmeric in its whole food form, it will have the active compounds within it that aid in the absorption of the curcumin :)
Black pepper is a must
Yes I think this is a great recipe, I do not like adding pepper to Golden Milk although many recipes say to add it for absorbtion of turmeric. I also do not like the fresh turmeric but perfer the powder.
No need to add black pepper :) When you use the whole turmeric root, you get all of the compounds, such as turmerones, that work synergistically together to aid in absorption
Joyous Health Hmm how would you know if it is the whole turmeric root used if it is in a powder form
It should say on the label 100% ground turmeric. I use Cha's Organics Turmeric for that reason!
Yep, I was going to ask about the black pepper . What about the oil.
I make my own style of golden milk and its so good you just need half banana coconut milk and one teaspoon of turmeric
MMMM that sounds delicious too!! Nice and creamy :)
Could you please consider doing a video on the food you eat and the exercices you make because you look even more amazing since you had your daughter, you are in a beautiful and glowing shape :) Thanks and also thanks for this video, I will be making it for sure, love turmeric latte but wouldn't it be better to add the boiling water after the nut milk so that the raw honey doesn't "cook" ?
Thank you so much! And yes, you could totally add the honey after. Clearly I was being lazy with this! haha
And to answer your other question, I eat different foods all the time. It really depends on the season and what's in season locally, what my daughter is into eating (feeding a toddler can be an interesting experience!!) as for exercise, I walk A LOT and do yoga/pilates. I'm not into intense exercise as my body doesn't like it after having a baby. But that's the short version of what I do... maybe I will do a video but I feel like it will just be a random rant! haha
Thanks, I'm sure many of us would love to watch that video ;-)
How often should I used ginger and turmeric I have start using ginger it’s giving me heart burns ?
Hi Joy - I was told that ginger is a blood thinner? If so, how often can seniors drink it? Please advise thank you!
As an Indian my mother gives me this when I m felling little Sick 👍👍👍 by the way nice recipe...❤️❤️❤️
Falguni mitra what an amazing mama you have! 💛💛💛
@@joyoushealth ❤️❤️
Re the black pepper debate. Joy you are right NOT to add it. Black pepper does help to absorb the turmeric however it absorbs it into the small intestine. For turmeric to do all its magic it needs to be absorbed into the large intestine where all the fantastic bacteria are. Here it can do all the good work. If it is absorbed into the small intestine it cannot do its work as there are very few bacteria in the small intestine and it is just wasted. Hope this helps.
When I make mine all the turmeric goes to the bottom. I need to keep stirring. If I don’t mix it can I drink it that way?
Thank you 🙏🏻 you awsome.
I love it
I have rheumatoid arthritis. I'm gonna try this to help with the inflammation.
Amazing! That would be super helpful for you!
When is the best to use: morning/afternoon, meals/ before/ after,
Lilly Aquarius anytime!
I come back to this yummy recipe time and time again! Can you share what electric kettle you use? I have been looking for one with no plastic parts!
Aw that's so great! I have a stainless steel kettle from Breville
Thank you 🙏 for sharing. 🥰
You're welcome!
You are gorgeous!😁
Thank you for sharing recipe.
Turmeric one my favorite spices. Yes, inflammation, such a big problem for me.
Repent lezzie.
So easy not to try! Thank you❤
Thank you, you’re soo gorgeous and I love your hair, soo beautiful.❤️
Thank you Sandra!
This looks fantastic! Yum! Do you use black pepper to release the turmeric medicinal properties? TY! 🌱💜
Not when I'm using the whole turmeric root because all of the compounds work together to support the absorption of the active ingredients like curcumin
Yea been drinking it since I was a kid cause I'm Indian...! But it sadenss me how we failed our culture. Great video tho!❤️
Where did you purchase the coconut butter from?
Thank u for ur videos! When is it best to drink this drink?
Whenever you have time to make it :) It's not like lemon and water where drinking it on an empty stomach is ideal. Many people enjoy it before bed. I personally love drinking it mid-morning after my morning smoothie.
OMG I literally made it after your video, I've been wanting to make it at home. So simple and so yummy!!! Thank you so much!
So happy to hear you enjoyed it!!
