    Hi everyone, due the popularity of this question, I thought I would let you know that at 6:05 I talk about exactly why I do NOT add black pepper. Hope that helps!

      From what I understand black pepper is necessary to activate the turmeric and I've heard this from many sources

      U can also make a healthy vegan hot chocolate cause the healthy kind of chocolate cocoa not the processed Hershey’s stuff is really good for u. There’s lots of really good vegan hot coco powder they has superfoods and really good clean ingredients and then just add whatever plant milk u like and u can now drink this turmeric ginger drink and hot coco!

    I know it's an old video but it's new to me:
    1. Add the milk before the hot water - hot water straight onto Raw Honey will destroy a lot of the goodness the honey is bringing.
    2. I use a plastic sports water bottle exclusively for making this, I don't care if the plastic stains from the turmeric as it's the only thing it is used for - easy to drink from that without mess, and easier to mix it all together.
    3. I know you said you don't need black pepper in this, personally I think it improves the flavour of the Ginger by giving it slightly more background heat - all preference though.

    I’m sure this goes without saying, as she is a nutritionist, however there was no mention of it and some people do not know. For better health use Ceylon cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon, the type most prolific on grocery store shelves, is toxic to the liver and kidneys. Once I switched to Ceylon the difference I noticed was the richness of flavor. It takes a bit longer to blend Ceylon cinnamon, but so worth it. Thank you for this recipe, I can’t wait to try it! Many blessings to all.

Heated all ingredients in a saucepan except the honey. Onced mildly heated put all in blender then added honey. Came out nice and frothy. Thank you for a great recipe.

    The weird thing is, I started doing this about 10 years ago just as an easy way to get turmeric into me each day because I can't handle swallowing capsules. So I just came up with the idea in my own head that it would be really easy to get it down as a warm, spiced, creamy drink. I had no idea "golden milk" was an ancient Ayurvedic remedy or that turmeric lattes were going to become so popular. I wish I had; I'd have made a video, too! I have it before bedtime and it's SOOOOO comforting, especially when I'm not feeling great, which is usually (I have a chronic illness). I do always add black pepper because I love that extra kick of spice, plus I figure it couldn't hurt. And sometimes when I'm tired or lazy, I just put half a tablespoon of turmeric into cocoa. Why not? I'm all about getting it in any way possible. LOL

      @@joyoushealth Def. am picking up the coconut butter! I just had only the oil on hand, and it was still a surprisingly tasty latte. I'm on day 3 of this, and to me, it's equal to regular lattes (I drink espresso-lattes or a chai latte tea daily, for the flavor). These ingredients now have their own space in my shelf so I can make this a staple! Might try to add avocado pulp for the creaminess when I get a chance, just to see.

    One thing about adding black pepper with tumeric. It increases the anti inflammatory properties of tumeric. It does not block absorption of any of the other components of tumeric. It's the whole range of phytonutrients acting together that give us those benefits which curcumin by itself can't match, or with black pepper can't match.

      This is crystallization, and I actually love when my honey dose this becuase it tells me that it's real honey, kinda like when olive oil thickens and emulsifys in cold temperatures. This type of honey is still perfect but is amazing to use as a face,and body scrub as well! The crunchy texture is grate with smooth peanut butter as well!

      @@lovemidnight6377 any oil will thicken in colder temperatures...It is in no way an indication that the oil is real. Also it's impossible for an oil to emulsify by itself. An emulsion is a mixture of two or more liquids that are normally immiscible (unmixable or unblendable)

    😂 I was literally waiting for the video to end to tell you that you should add some black pepper (and also in the meantime thinking to myself "it's weird, it says in the description that she is a nutritionist so she should know this, but she's not adding any...") and you addressed it on the last minute! So, sorry for doubting you and thank you for teaching me that! For me it is too expensive to buy ground turmeric instead of ground curcumin so I will still have to add the pepper but it was great to learn that 😊

    • @bassamal-kaaki3253
      @bassamal-kaaki3253 5 років тому +6

      Raquel Pinto So turmeric is expensive i agree. Can teach you something to do and its great. Buy turmeric looks like ginger from the vegetables section. I think 4 pieces are about $3.40. Take them home, cut them and dry them in the sun for 4 days. When they’re fully dry they will shrink to almost half the size. Ground them up in small coffee processor and voila! You have ground fresh turmeric for use :)

      @@donnaleveron5711 Adfraid I agree. I've heard that without the pepper, the turmeric is MUCH LESS effective...so I add pepper (& of course, add the honey AFTER the milk, as the boiling water is going to destroy the benefits of using RAW UNPATSTEURIZED honey...surely that's obvious?).

      Raquel Pinto You could grow your own turmeric and grind it up. If you buy one tuber in the grocery store and grow it.

  • @tommidd8042
    @tommidd8042 4 роки тому

    Add the black pepper, piperine, yes its needed even with ground turmeric. I'd add some real butter or olive oil, just a tea spoon of either. Important note: Even ground organic turmeric has been found to have small traces of lead. Adds to the shipping weight = $$$$, FDA over looks it. Grind up the root yourself.

      Kayene peper is necesary to add to tumernic because this helpt the curcumine from tumeric to fix it in your body. Otherwise only tumernic is not completely absorbed in your body. Adding peper is 100% healthy and effectieve.

      Yes, that's great! I actually advise to have it without black pepper because it can actually inhibit absorption of the curcumin. If you're using turmeric in its whole food form, it will have the active compounds within it that aid in the absorption of the curcumin :)

    Yes I think this is a great recipe, I do not like adding pepper to Golden Milk although many recipes say to add it for absorbtion of turmeric. I also do not like the fresh turmeric but perfer the powder.

    • @joyoushealth

      No need to add black pepper :) When you use the whole turmeric root, you get all of the compounds, such as turmerones, that work synergistically together to aid in absorption

    Could you please consider doing a video on the food you eat and the exercices you make because you look even more amazing since you had your daughter, you are in a beautiful and glowing shape :) Thanks and also thanks for this video, I will be making it for sure, love turmeric latte but wouldn't it be better to add the boiling water after the nut milk so that the raw honey doesn't "cook" ?

    • @joyoushealth

    • @joyoushealth

      And to answer your other question, I eat different foods all the time. It really depends on the season and what's in season locally, what my daughter is into eating (feeding a toddler can be an interesting experience!!) as for exercise, I walk A LOT and do yoga/pilates. I'm not into intense exercise as my body doesn't like it after having a baby. But that's the short version of what I do... maybe I will do a video but I feel like it will just be a random rant! haha

    Re the black pepper debate. Joy you are right NOT to add it. Black pepper does help to absorb the turmeric however it absorbs it into the small intestine. For turmeric to do all its magic it needs to be absorbed into the large intestine where all the fantastic bacteria are. Here it can do all the good work. If it is absorbed into the small intestine it cannot do its work as there are very few bacteria in the small intestine and it is just wasted. Hope this helps.
