I have been there 5 times but I would never go during the bike race that happens every year because then you are stuck with the hard trails. At least I didn't go this week since bike race was supposed happened again
We’ve been a few times and only visiting during the fall and winter months. The heat is no joke during the summer. I bet those bike races are pretty cool with the scenic backdrop of Palo Duro.
What’s great is the scenic drive at Palo Duro. The Grand Canyon amazing, but the views are at a fix point. The hiking great during the cooler months too.

Gotta put Palo on the radar again. We’ve only stayed there for a few overnight trips but never spent anytime doing anything there.
It’s a nice park, wished I had time over the summer to see the play. The Light House and Rock Garden Trails are beautiful.
Love Palo Duro. We visited there a couple years ago. Not a bad view in any direction.

Dogs are allowed on trails.
Are mountain lions a threat here?
They found them a few years back outside the state park. They usually keep away from people and I’ve personally never had an encounter with one.
