In this video we continue the progress on the daily driver silverado. When I bought this it had a cheap Boss radio and everytime I got out of the truck the radio stayed on until I pushed the power button. The prior owner cut off the factory harness. I went to a local salvage yard and cut one out to replace it. After getting the factory harness in place it was time to put in a new Pioneer radio. I wanted something more modern and had more power and features. I have had this for a while. The new adapter allowed the retained accessory power to work. This means the radio stays on until the door is opened or the system times out. I also installed new door led lights and made sure all the speakers were hooked up correctly. This video shows you how to install a new radio in your silverado or sierra truck. Double din radios look good in the silverado and the factory one doesn't have any good features. This is a great upgrade for any silverado or sierra. It will also work in tahoe and yukon. Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

Only reason this video doesn’t have millions of views is people seem to stop working on their own cars they just buy a new one and throw the old one away like cell phones 😔 just wanted to let you know 2 years later someone appreciates the time and effort you put into these tutorials ❤
You aren't wrong. I appreciate the comments
I could of bought a brand new pickup truck that worked and what not.. but nope I got a 97 gmc that dident start and now after being in the shop it's running. I'm a truck driver who is hardly home that's why it's in th3 shop however.. I will be updating the suspension my self
👍
Always love the step by step and that new radio looks pretty nice!
Thank you. It is so much better
Very satisfying to see that messy wiring all fixed up, great job Travis.
Thank you
Man your step by step doing everything I want to do to my 2005 which is the same interior. Great content. You have a new subscriber
Thank you very much
Fellow 05 cat eye

Good evening Travis. I put a Pioneer double din all touchscreen in my 13 Silverado. I bought the upgraded interface that retains the steering wheel controls. My truck didn’t come from the factory with steering wheel controls. I bought a leather wrapped unit from my local salvage yard that had the controls. It all worked together and now I can control the stereo from my wheel. I also took out one of my 12 volt recepticals and put a factory GM usb plug with the cover to match the other. Now I can use my Apple CarPlay. Worked out pretty sweet
Thats awesome. I have seen that 12 volt usb deal and it is nice
This video is exactly what I needed!! Thank you
Thank you. Glad I could help
Looks pretty good. Back in the 90s early 2000s stereo days I was Kenwood only
Thank you Frank
Great video and timing, gonna install double din in my 2000 chevy next week. ✌
Thank you. I need to do my green truck
Looking good! I just put a center console in from an 03 suburban in my single cab. Changed the lower dash pieces and all. Love it.
That will come in this
@@TWAMotorsports good deal! Thanks for all the quality content.
Thank you
I put a radio a couple of months back in my son’s first car so he could have Bluetooth. Bought a harness of eBay and spliced it for plug and play no cutting wires and like you except soldering, I got heat shrinking butt connectors then black tape around them and the harness as a whole. I was alittle nervous because I’m a handle guy but I never put in a radio but it worked perfect. I just took my time the night before sitting at the table splicing in the harness. Pioneer is the best! I have ran them in almost all my cars. I have a pioneer 760 amp and a Alpine Type R 12in sub in need to put in my car now but I’m not going to tackle that one!
Thats awesome. Sounds like a nice set up for your son.
Looks great did this a couple weeks ago in my sierra
Thank you
Great video I’m with you on the pioneer great unit’s
Thank you Daniel. They are definitely good for the money
Good Friday afternoon buddy great tutorial last night on the radio install on your daily driver.. a little at a time and you'll have a cleaner than normal daily driver.. untill you decide to send it down the road?👍.... have a safe weekend and I'll catch you Monday night on your next video..
Thank you. You have a great weekend too
I've always been faithful to Pioneer head units. I have an older version of that head unit you installed in my 05 Tahoe. I'm thinking of upgrading it so I can be able to use Android Auto. I will run the USB for my install though. Good video!
They are good units
Absolute legend you are. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Don't know about that but thank you
By far my favorite channel on UA-cam. Love the 99-07 gm trucks
Thank you
There’s a bezel for the tailgate handle with a built in camera like the new trucks could be interesting for that reverse feature
Yeah I have seen those
I bought a license plate back up camera. It worked great with my Pioneer. Also nice to have when backing up to hook up a trailer.
@@larrydeaton5452 the image and the quality good?
Yes. Both are really good. It was around $25 on Amazon.
@@larrydeaton5452 have a link by chance?
Quality content like always
Thank you very much
So I had my buddy help hook up and aftermarket radio because I’ve never done it before. Long story short, he cut factory plug and taped everything in place. With that said, this video just saved me a bunch of money and time.
That's good
I just came across your vid (nice work). You have all the speakers wired correctly except possibly for the front passenger door. I too had the same issue (especially when I got to rear passenger door and saw the brown and yellow wires, so I followed the same logic as the other side....LOL). I looked up the factory specs as per GM, if your vin code in the glovebox is UQ3/UQ5 then light green wire is (-) and dark green wire is (+), and if the vin code is UQ7, then light green wire is (+) and dark green wire is (-). I hope this helps the next person who faces this issue when installing their aftermarket radio.
Thank you for the info
Awesome Vlog 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you
I like the pioneer radio that you put in the truck and also when you put the truck in reverse with that radio and would you have to do is get a backup camera.
Doing a backup camera as we speak
Nice radio...
Thank you
Headliners are pretty easy, just takes a minute to get out. I changed mine from tan to black. Looks super sick over the tan, just took a minute to figure how to wrap the visors.
Yeah I think I am going to let my upholstery guy do it due to no time to mess with it.
You can run a ground wire from the bolt that is on top of your gas pedal to get a frame ground if need be
Any recommendations on a good third break light
Truck is almost as good as mine Trav! ;) you are a better man than I am. I double twisted the cables and heat shrunk them in. I also like the Jensen Cr270. It's super basic but it's rated to 80 mw and has Bluetooth and is like 50 bucks. Not complaining about that. New carpet when?
Thank you. Yeah can't beat a price like that. Ordered samples for carpet so who knows when it is coming
hell yea bother good video
Thank you
Good post my friend. Now all you need is the wireless phone charger in your center console arm rest. Eliminates any cables. I hate cables everywhere.
By the way, how many people have told you that you resemble Will Ferrel?
Thank you and I hear that a lot
Would you mind doing a video on how to install steering wheel controls? Id love to add them to my 06 sierra 1500.
Not anytime soon
I just Subscribed and liked this video. I like neat wiring jobs. I read all the comments and one asked about the dimmer. Have you determent if the dimmer works on this radio?
Thank you. Dimmer works but not like the factory. Basically on or off.
Really appreciate the video, I ordered the harness you linked and installed a radio and everything works but the radio stays on even after I have the truck turned off. When I first installed it would turn off when I turned the truck off but after a day it’ll stay on. Idk if it has something to do with it being a Bluetooth paired radio through an app on my phone or if something went wrong with the switched power on the harness, any ideas?
It was the harness
If you to a headliner replacement try to wire up a Oem Microphone to look more factory then aftermarket
That's not a bad idea
The radio on my OBS was horribly wired. I had to rewire the entire radio wire harness from power and ground to speaker leads. Bought an OEM plug for the truck side of the harness, then bought the adapter plug for an aftermarket radio and wired it to the radio plug to make a subharness.
Thats the only way to do it.
Would the usb connect/offer Apple CarPlay? A great feature to have if it is available!!
I don't carry an iPhone
It would definitely be cool if this truck was turned into an SS
It would be but that is not in the cards
Can I use that same harness for my alpine stereo? Had a connector melt from tapping into the HVAC control power, wondering how else to go about it
Yes
The new radio looks nice. Also I think a good mod would be replacing the center seat with a console. I’d personally also install a backup camera and roll up bed cover. But this is such a nice crew cab.
Thank you. I have a console. Just waiting for a few other things
@@TWAMotorsports can’t wait to see it
Hopefully in the next month
Just did a full console in my single cab found it in the junkyard looked brand new couldn't pass it up for $50
Nice
can you adjust the bass if you had a sub with that sterio
Yes
I always use the CD, as there is not and good radio station in my town.
I understand that
On my 04 silverado for some reason the interior led aren't bright when I press the map light button but if I turn them on by the dim switch they are bright any ideas?? Same thing for the third brake light I can't put led if I do it's really really dim
I had that issue on my tahoe. I never looked into it
Great video man. Did u ever figure out the noice on these headunits for these trucks? I've installed Pioneer AVIC-W8600NEX and this noise been annoying me
Start up noise?
@TWA Motorsports yes. There's a lil buzzing noice. You can still hear it with volume at 0. Not sure if it has to do anything with the bose amp
I have no idea.
@@definitehotshotwilldid you figure it out
@ThaMourningAfter yes. I've installed a amp and ran all new speaker wires to the amp. Made sure I had good grounds. Nooce went away
Will the same radio and harness work in a 2002 Chevy Express van?
It should
Need to get the Denali dash trim
Tough to find around here
@@TWAMotorsports I have one but in Canada lol
That isn't very close. Lol
I used to do all the work in my 01 Silverado ext it was so much easier now you afraid of breaking clips or a piece on the dash or something lol
Yeah if you take your time it isn't bad
My aftermarket came with an ignition wire what should I do
Buy a good harness
My stock head unit is going out. This looks like a good replacement . I would rather keep the stock head until because last time I put a double din unit I got a busted window and a stolen radio. But that was 15 years ago I don't think people are still stealing radios this days. They're so cheap
I agree. Not sure people are stealing radios these days
Did you not need to run a ignition wire? I'm having a hard time with mine. The harness I bought fits right, but the ignition pin goes nowhere on the OEM. I guess because GM uses the network instead of 12v ignition?
I bought the same harness pack you used in here, hopiing that the beeper module will solve this igition issue.
Not if you use the correct harness like I did
@@TWAMotorsports awesome, mine came in the mail today, looking forward to seeing this head unit actually turn on
Hopefully so
@@TWAMotorsports Dude you are the fricking man! it worked perfect. Does your dimmer work though? The instructions say to use the one coming out of the module if there isn't one on the OEM pinout, which on mine there isn't (07 classic as well), which I did but it didn't seem like the dimmer worked at all.
Mine all works but not sure on dimmer
hey my stereo wont turn off and on when I turn my truck off. what did I do wrong??
Power wires are probably wrong
Did you have to ground a wire?
Nope. Just hooked up harness
Is the saudering part mando?
I always do
Speakers 6 1/2" or the 5 1/4"? I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE and want to replace my speakers.
6 1/2 in all the onea I've done
ty
@@TWAMotorsports
You're welcome
I have a question. Someone stole my subwoofers n now my kenwood stereo wont come on. Will buying a new one solve the problem ?. 2005 tahoe. Asking because i watched all of you videos and seen you had a couple tahoes
Could just be a fuse issue. Need to test for power to radio
where did you get your stock harness ?
Stock harness was in truck. Aftermarket listed in video description
Knock it out the park with this and the heat on top of it!!!
Thank you
I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 2500 HD what size Radio do I need?
Stock size is a gm din and a half radio.
@@TWAMotorsports ok
@TWA Motorsports I just bought a new dash panel so I could have a double din
From metra?
I just got it from Amazon.
Hi interest in letting it go please lmk thank you
Already gone
What kind of pioneer is that?
The one I listed in the video description
🤟🏽
The door chimes are the worst. I need to know how to get rid of them.
Don't know if you can
What size is that radio?
Double din
Is this an 07?
07 Classic
9 times out of 10 ill bump the tip of the solder gun/iron with my arm after I set it down...lol
Did that too. Nice little burn mark. Lol
Radio dimensions
Standard double din.
A lot of the parts that you use and recommend down in your disscription are no longer available.
This is an older video so I can try to update when I can
Dealership is just pulling the fuse instead of disconnecting battery these days.
That is easier I guess
@@TWAMotorsports only if they put them all back in correctly and didnt decide to hack in my BCM wiring harness for the power they lost. Good thing I had pictures and could prove it.
Oh crap. That sucks
😢
Pioneer no good. Power acoustic only.
Walmart Power Acoustic?
@@TWAMotorsports what does walmart have to do with power acoustic? All I ever see at Walmart is pioneer.
@MrC9Oh3 not a fan of power acoustic look
@@TWAMotorsports oh that answered my question
I put in a pioneer dvd head unit and my pioneer door speakers are nowhere near as loud as they should be and yhe bass in them kinda sucks compared to the factory setup. Any ides?
May be bad
