Bought the Coopers Paint stripper kit after watching Pete's prior video. It is FANTASTIC!!!!! I stripped an Austin Healey rear aluminum shroud. It had 2 layers of paint. I followed the instructions and it works as advertised! The best paint remover I have ever used.

Look at the price comparison, I just bought a quart of the aircraft ultra for $20. The cheapest option I see from cooper's is $95 with shipping. And that doesn't include the flusher, spray bottles, wool, etc. To get all of that would be $250. Also, from other videos I've seen, the longer you can leave the aircraft stripper on there, the better it works. I. E. Multiple layers at a time if you're patient. Looks like I’m gonna have to try the coopers on my 914 doors. I didn’t want to blast them because I’m concerned about warping, but they have multiple layers on them
@benzracer9 From what I see, the Coopers Strip Club product will serve you well! As you indicated the vehicle may have 4 layers or 4 paint jobs which includes many layers but success is with in your hands. They have owner videos and customer videos, sold in kits but available in bulk container of liters from New Zealand. Instead of methylene chloride exclusive to the main ingredient it uses a chlorinated base. Opposite of an acid yet it soaks into micro pores of the paint. Repeat as needed for layers of paint. The EPA banned sales of products containing the sale of methylene chloride not because some people improperly used it and passed, but they could not control the disposal of the product and paint debris it removed. I bought many, many gallons at Menards as I saw the price increase. I am doing a 1967 C10 truck for myself. If you have plans to do multiple customers in the future, Coppers appears the best way as it does contain methylene chloride at a lower level that allows for sale now. This is subject to change but $250 will get the stripper and finisher in large quantities. The additional items you may wish to purchase are made available. DK, Omaha.

Thanks for doing this revIew Pete. Clearly the Coopers did a much better job and was much less labor intensive. I think in the end it will come down to cost of product versus value of labor time. My experience with Coopers Strip Club paint stripper. I am renovating a 1975 MGB and it is time to remove decades of old paint and areas of relatively new paint. I waited impatiently for my kit to arrive, and it did about 9-10 days after ordering. I had watched a bunch of videos and read all of the directions. I filled both of the spray bottles. One with stripper and the other with flusher then sprayed one of the front fenders. The relatively new paint (3 coats of 2K Urethane and 3 coats of 2K urethane primer) peeled off down to the bare steel after sitting for about 5 minutes and I got ready to junk my DA and rotary sander until I got to the sections with the factory original, 49-year-old paint and primer. A few areas began to bubble after several sprays, keeping the surface wet. After about an hour, I used a putty knife and attempted to scrape. Almost nothing came off, so I sprayed some more, kept the surface wet and tried again. Oh, I was spraying with light to moderate coats of spray. the base barely came loose. I switched to a combination of the DA with 120 - 80 grit and additional applications of stripper. I have a very long way to go and am disappointed but will persevere. Here are some of the issues: The triggers on both bottles stopped functioning after a few hours use. I cleaned each sprayer and blew air through each one while depressing the triggers. The airways were not obstructed. I only received one trigger tube and one handy faucet sort of thing. The spout worked nicely, but I would have liked 2 of these. I would have liked to have more Flusher but will husband my supply to make it last. Incidentally the stripper hurts like hell if and when any of it gets through to the skin. A spray of the flusher stops the burn. All in all, I would recommend this product for relatively new paint removal. Paint removal from a classic auto does work but is very tedious and consumes quite a lot of product. .
So my 1965 C10 was painted over at least once, the paint is starting to chip off and the primer is starting to show. (I didn’t paint it.) Should I use this paint stripper to get down to the metal? Man I've been waiting on this video to come out since you first introduced the Cooper's product I am in the middle of a restoration on a 1964 Chevrolet Impala and I want to strip it but I know now that it's Cooper's 💯💯💯 all the way
Hi pete in the day we took old painted on lettering or old decals we would use oven spray cleaner and do the same same thing covering it up with wrap in about 5 minutes the lettering would come right off and not touch the old laquer paint
Great video. I always hated using aircraft stripper mess. I have a car to strip so very timely for me. Think I'll try applying the Cooper's with a pump up garden sprayer. I have a garden sprayer that I use for Super Kleen. Easy to get into tight spaces.
@@SOLDOZER ..... Thank you for your concern. My sprayer holds about a quart of fluid and the nozzle can be adjusted from a fine mist to a steady stream I think I can mimic the application of their spray bottles they supply. I'm a fossil. In 1985 a tire that was dropped off to fix a flat, it had a broken bead and became a missile.Long story shorten shattered right elbow(screwed & wired) both wrist damaged and several bones in each were fused. I little issues with body work/paint or turning a wrench but that squeezing the spray bottles would be near impossible and extremely painful. You learn to adapt or sit in a Barcalounger watching TV all day.
Aircraft stripper use to be so good. Now it takes 4 times as much time as it use too. I still have a little of the old left & when you use the old cans against the new the NEW isn’t even close.
Great video! I wonder if a garden sprayer would be helpful in applying the stripper. Your hand wouldn't get tired of squeezing the trigger and a long wand would help reach the roof and keep the stuff off your skin.
Instructions claim light spray coats work best. Using a bug sprayer or weed killer spray would probably waste a lot of it. It doesn’t take much for it to work properly.
i do auto body at Infiniti they had cars come back for a bad batch of paint the aircraft stuff was great then i dont know what happened it just sucks. so we stop using and im glad i dont have to do it anymore. great video i love hoe striaght forward you are no bullshit
Thats very true Keith -- On this video I didn't want to do that since it was a compitition video and wanted to see what happened straight outta the can on paint.. Thanks for watching.
I am trying to strip just one layer of painted (and light primer) on my Volkswagen. In your experience do you think I’ll be able to maintain the original factory paint underneath with this and only remove the top coats? Thanks for the video. Was referred by a friend of yours to check it out.
Great stuff! Love your channel. Any suggestions on How much of the Coopers product you would need to strip a whole P/U truck or Car? Also, the idea that your going to wrap up...say a whole car or even an AIRPLANE in cellophane every time to strip paint is insane...so understand why the Coopers is top product in that respect.
On their website there is toll free phone numbers for several country’s And one of them is USA. The lady will answer all you questions. Thanks for watching
@Love Trump > The lady I spoke to is the owners wife. She is extremely knowledgeable and no hard to understand accent, easy talking. The sell kits but re-fills in larger containers. I can’t speak for the shelf life but I like research before spending my hard earned Biden Bucks as you get so much now! (NOT!) I have a 67 C10 and I am sure would know that is a lot of square footage. Yes, the steel wool is much stiffer and the nylon pads are dense, with that said, or a re-fill of “Stipper” and “Flusher” and look at a liters = Gals calculator online. I think it was $250 delivered. They maybe slammed with orders after Petes video, and good for them! From what I can tell, get the refill size, you are smart enough to figure the rest out, but keep containers closed, sealed in a coil dark area if you have left overs, you should be good to go for several years. I am in Omaha and instead of Polar Vortex and Global Warming, we have weather! It’s like calling suspenders “Anti-Gravity-Devices for Britches” but we just call them suspenders. However, I think uncle Joe is going to write an executive order called “REF” for “Rubber Elasticity Failure” order making rubber bands, bungee cords, suspenders, underwear elastic and bra straps use less and not spring back (Their goes his Depends underwear to his ankles) another not well thought out bill, but, in this day and age, I am surprised stamps stick to an envelope! Coopers refill I think is the way to go when getting the most bang for the buck right now for a complete truck plus more, depending on the # of coats on the vehicle. Our cars are much bigger as they have to drive on streets from 400+ years ago, with cart & donkey! The phone number requires no country code so just call. Stay safe, have a great 2022!
@@deankay4434 Wow..thanks for detailed answer...but now I gotta get my nerve up to take the step to start this project. Thanks for that! PS: I will say you got one thing wrong, as you should know: It's been ages since Joe could write, only his handlers write and sign documents! 😀
@@lovetrump1088 Yep, he gets out a dictionary if he needs to count about 20, but removes his socks if he needs to spell large words. Note: if you use a credit card just remember to explain to your wife in advance the charge for “Coopers Strip Club” is for a car!!! The “Flusher” fluid has a chemical to prolong any flash rusting. Also, make a plan! As Pete always says to work “One Area” at a time. So here is a suggestion. To do gaps and fitment between panels, starting at a good quarter panel, simple strip only that first 3 inches of the door skin to use a slap-hammer, dressed body hammer and weld as needed. Grind and shape using a paint stick as a guide to start. Leave the paint on the rest of the skin to start. Same with rust. Work the metal to get real close. I also subscribed to to “Sylvester’s Customs”. He finishes the metal, rust, dents on edge and once done, he mixes filler and with gasket, good hinges, latch all done, fills two spots at the front, bottom and back to allow it to harden with the door, hood, deck perfect, places the filler in the gaps to harden. No, the panel can’t move so in front, behind, above and below can all be skim coated with filler or prep and spray catalyzed high-build to work with guide coat. This make everything laser straight. Use hacksaw-blade or air saw to release when done and hand sand as needed. But leave until last. So edges, gaps, rust but only remove the paint needed. I would spray epoxy just over the filler and tape off when time comes to remove all the paint off just that panel. Sand in 80 grit, W& G, tack & blow with air, mask and spray with epoxy. I am a cheap bastards, so I actually clean the PPS 2.0 cups for re-use. (Tack-Rags) Surgical Blue tack rags, or any brand, take one out, open up and hang out to dry a little the use light pressure with clean dry air. Place in clean coffee can, masking tape the I.D. on a label to reuse. Many are scared of tack rag because of past problems. Theses collect dust while wiping but drag don’t push! Sylvester’s idea of locking the door, truck or hood in place flat after repair is cheap genius. Long board the entire panel as one. Jim Stout with “Stout’s Customs” uses a wood yard stick or paint stir stir stick, cuts to length, eases one edge over with a long block, but use these as sanding blocks cut to length. Depending upon hand / finger placement, it has better contact in reverse crowns while leaving sharp edges along. Out of habit, but used to work at dealer until 9PM, but got up to milk a cow on the farm as a boy. So bed is 11:30 PM, wake up is 5:30-6AM So I focus on 67-72C10 and good stuff on UA-cam like Pete, but watch other bodywork / paint as best practices and chemistry has changed. I watch two over-the-air TV (Cowboy Westerns / DEFY) that’s it. Hope this helps, gives you some ideas and yes, big projects but like the old saying; A journey of a thousands miles begins with a single step! Having info doesn’t hurt either as both “Stout Customs” and “Sylvester’s Customs” both do show car-trucks. If I learn 75% of what they do, I will have a successful restoration! I am a mechanic, not a pain & body guy, so I am learning current chemistry & procedure! Best of luck buddy with your project in 2022 and beyond. I have done 7-8 cars/trucks of our own but years ago. Shoot If questions arise… DK, Omaha, NE. Hope this helps, lot to learn. Monday, bring two #2 pencils and two types of I. D. as a test will be given on your homework! Lol.
Pete apparently the new formula for the aircraft stripper has to be put on in a glob it cannot be brushed on it has to be thick for to do any kind of action and yes plastic wrap of course
You said to apply aircraft in one direction and not to "brush it back and forth" because doing that would "deactivate the product" then when you applied it you did the exact opposite and brushed it back and forth..
Thanks bro. I stopped buying furniture stripper, since the methylene chloride ban went into effect, and watch one video of some dude trying to use methylene chloride free aircraft stripper. He covered it too, and left it on there for 3 hours. I thought , WTF is this guy doing. I use to use “Dad’s furniture stripper”, a several years ago, (until I couldn’t get it), and that melts old finish, in like 10 minutes. That method of covering it was taught to me about 35 years ago, but only to help shitty stripper work better…I hated it , just buy the good stuff. I’ll have to give coopers a try some day soon. Thanks again.
Thanks. I have used the Ultra, and it's much better than it used to be, but the Cooper's looks to be much easier to use with better results and much less mess.
cousin does aircraft paint,, the top stuff but only 5 gallons at a time , is called Turco. nasty but with strip polyurethane like Imron he said when others just lay there
Copper claims it will remove powder coating. I would say blading it is the best way. Depending on the surface would depending on the blasting material to use
I literally tried the aircraft remover yesterday, barely got off the first top coat, stopped at the primer, did it twice. All I got was a mess. Followed the directions to the letter.
I wonder if this works well on furniture. I am refinishing some 100+ year old furniture and never in my life have I had the issues I have had with paint. It has layers and layers of lead paint and the expensive stuff from the box stores did NOTHING!!!
More importantly...which one has the better fumes? I work in a call center, and I figured I'd rather kill off my brain cells all by myself, as opposed to letting the idiots (I deal with on a daily basis) do that.
I tried this aircraft bullcrap on my sons 89 mustangs rear bumper and it wouldnt lift the paint was completely useless gonna have to try the coopers since its imposible to sand by hand. Screw that other crap its a huge rip off
Not really fair evaluation when didn’t scrape the 2nd run of aircraft remover. I like coopers better as well but aircraft is good as well. Biggest advantage is the lack of fumes with cooper and able to spray it.
Not convinced. You should check out the video that ammo from nyc put out when he when he used aircraft stripper to remove the paint from his Porsche 911. Two passes and the aircraft stripper took the paint down to bare metal. One thing he did differently compared to you was to apply a single sheet of plastic over the entire painted surface. The reason for is the stripper is exothermal(produces heat) and plastic acts to retain the heat so that the stripper is more effective. Check out his video on you tube.
For all the people saying the cooper stuff is expensive, he was able to strip half of the hood with a few squirts of the bottle. Maybe you can do a whole car with a single kit?
Before they removed the methylene chloride from the aircraft stripper, treated paint could be removed by a rag, it would almost sloth off by itself. Hardly worth using now. Cooper's for sure.
Cooper's looks like it does a better job and less work involved in it and less time wich could be money on a private job for someone trying to make a profit

I have a garden sprayer that I use for Super Kleen. Easy to get into tight spaces.
My understanding the best results is light coats sprayed on. So be careful not to over spray. Let us know how it works out. Thanks
You would be totally wasting product. No need at all for that.
@@diyautoschool Will do Pete. I have a hood that has louvers punched that I'll test 1st.
Hell yeah thanks to MY FRIEND PETE for this so I can get up OFF MY ASS AND GET SOMETHING DONE MY GOD!!!🤙🇺🇸🙏
i do auto body at Infiniti they had cars come back for a bad batch of paint the aircraft stuff was great then i dont know what happened it just sucks. so we stop using and im glad i dont have to do it anymore. great video i love hoe striaght forward you are no bullshit
Thanks BIG G! I hate stripping too.. It sucks
@@diyautoschool ya i had to strip the qx56 the big suv. i had to use ladders to get the whole roof
been waiting for this video :D Just looking at the mess makes Coopers a winner! Will definitely use that to strip my bug!
I've found if you scratch up the paint with 80 grit first the stripper will work much better.
Thats very true Keith -- On this video I didn't want to do that since it was a compitition video and wanted to see what happened straight outta the can on paint.. Thanks for watching.
At the end you forgot to mention Cooper doesn't smell that bad LOL yep will definitely be switching to this in the future thank you very much
What strips easier? New car paints and primers (2000s) or old car paints and primers?
I am trying to strip just one layer of painted (and light primer) on my Volkswagen. In your experience do you think I’ll be able to maintain the original factory paint underneath with this and only remove the top coats?
Thanks for the video. Was referred by a friend of yours to check it out.
What a legend! Thank-you for all the effort. Seems like neither of them work as well as the old Aircraft formula, what do you think?
Typing in from Canada. Canadian Tire up here has a good paint stripper.
What's it called?

DS Paint Remover.
(NOT!)
I have a 67 C10 and I am sure would know that is a lot of square footage.
So bed is 11:30 PM, wake up is 5:30-6AM
So I focus on 67-72C10 and good stuff on UA-cam like Pete, but watch other bodywork / paint as best practices and chemistry has changed.
Coopers is the bomb!
Muchos Graciosas for the review Pete
Bloody good vid mate great job hope u got yr work for that day done allright 🤠
The fact coopers was wet and glossy made me think the active ingredient is Dot3 brake fluid.. it behaves like that on paint. Hmm... was it oily?
At the time of this video they changed the aircraft stripper where it did nothing ,they chainged it again now it works good just like the old stuff
Excellent video! I'm definitely going to look into the Cooper's.
You said to apply aircraft in one direction and not to "brush it back and forth" because doing that would "deactivate the product" then when you applied it you did the exact opposite and brushed it back and forth..
I’ll have to buy some. Maybe try putting on with a roller??
Coopers needs to make a brush on formula.
Thank for videos like this pete awesome Chanel 👌
I'm so disappointed with the Kieen Strip. Great demonstration Pete.
Bout to order some cooper thanks Pete!!
That aircraft stripper is not the real deal you can't buy aircraft stripper from a retail store I'm a aircraft painter and it's not the same
What pisss me off is the silaphane shit. What a mess
Thanks Pete .. good review
Pete showing how it is 👍
Good video as allways next time I'll have to try cooper
cousin does aircraft paint,, the top stuff but only 5 gallons at a time , is called Turco. nasty but with strip polyurethane like Imron he said when others just lay there
Good review 👍
Great review - Pete!
Could I use it in fiberglass?
I have a gallon of the old shit on my mantle remembering the good ole days
Hi, Pete! Question: What's the best way to remove powder coating?
Copper claims it will remove powder coating. I would say blading it is the best way. Depending on the surface would depending on the blasting material to use
I literally tried the aircraft remover yesterday, barely got off the first top coat, stopped at the primer, did it twice. All I got was a mess. Followed the directions to the letter.
We need a discount code copper stripper club. Awesome review Pete, I’m fixing to place my order as soon they give The viewers a promo code
brush 1 direction only. it works way better
You must not have been watching the video. IN THE BEGINNING THSTS EXACTLY WJAT I SAID. The old school stripper was a one stroke chemical. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Thanks I been waiting for this
I wonder if this works well on furniture. I am refinishing some 100+ year old furniture and never in my life have I had the issues I have had with paint. It has layers and layers of lead paint and the expensive stuff from the box stores did NOTHING!!!
Thanks Pete.
More importantly...which one has the better fumes?
I work in a call center, and I figured I'd rather kill off my brain cells all by myself, as opposed to letting the idiots (I deal with on a daily basis) do that.
I will say the Air Craft stripper has a more potanant smell vs the cooper.. Cooper is very very mild...
finally a product that can perform like old school.... COOPER ALL DAY LONG from now on
Yep been waiting for this vid,👍
I tried this aircraft bullcrap on my sons 89 mustangs rear bumper and it wouldnt lift the paint was completely useless gonna have to try the coopers since its imposible to sand by hand. Screw that other crap its a huge rip off
Will it remove epoxy Sealer?
Thanks pete.
What are the cost comparison?
Thanks pete..trooper..won again
I never had much trouble stripping the old lacquers.
I wonder how the Cooper would work on today's catalyzed urethanes.
Good point... IDK... M
Pete how much is it
Your the man pete
Would have been nice to see how much of the cooper u actually used each time....
Were do I get coopers??
The word you were looking for @ 38:20 is "Dilutes"... 👍

Not really fair evaluation when didn’t scrape the 2nd run of aircraft remover. I like coopers better as well but aircraft is good as well. Biggest advantage is the lack of fumes with cooper and able to spray it.
Cooper looks like the way to go
Not convinced.
EPA ruins everything they touch! GOING GREEN means going BROKE and costs costs costs for Small Business and BIG BIZ Love it.
For all the people saying the cooper stuff is expensive, he was able to strip half of the hood with a few squirts of the bottle.
Maybe you can do a whole car with a single kit?
I stripped the half of the deck lide with a total of 6 squirts of coopers stripper...
@@diyautoschool I sure miss the old Aircraft stuff! I remember my Dad and I stripping a whole Karmann Ghia with like a half a gallon!
@@AlanG58 yeah. I remember those days too.
Good review
Before they removed the methylene chloride from the aircraft stripper, treated paint could be removed by a rag, it would almost sloth off by itself. Hardly worth using now. Cooper's for sure.
Cooper's looks like it does a better job and less work involved in it and less time wich could be money on a private job for someone trying to make a profit
