Too bad that most "bare metal restorations" end up creating more problems than they solve. Any good, experiienced body man will tell you that the best "primer" for a new paint job is a sanded down factory paint job that's left as intact as possible. Modern "safe" paints, primers etc and a spray booth and HVLP gun can't duplicate factory results as far as getting good primer everywhere it needs to be on a partically assembled car and any paint job is only as good as the prep. When there are dents and dings or even small rust areas, its still best to work only the areas that absolutely need it so you leave as much paint/primer depth around it so that you don't have to match repaired/replaced bare metal/filler to "perfect" bare metal. If you leave as much of the original paint and primer as possible all you have to do is BUILD UP the paint and primer over the repaired area to "flush" with the remaining finish and then lightly sand all of it down smooth. If you're not going to take the whole thing apart and media-blast (baking soda blasting is amazing) and start all over to do the WHOLE paint job right, there's no sense taking the most easily refinished areas down to bare metal to start over. This is pretty much a hack job all the way around, as evidenced by the "body technician" not even bothering to get factory assembly manuals or information to know how the car is put together and what materials are used. He tried to remove something glued on that ended up being molded in and then said fuck it and hacked it off to glue on another piece. Suckers like you are the wet dream of hacks like him.
Anybody that calls THAT hack job "perfectionist" should be reading a dictionary instead of trying to play psychologist and explain OCD to people. Which, by the way, you also kind of failed at. OCD isn't limited to or even evidenced by IMPULSIVE behavior like doing things "repeatedly" and OCD has nothing to do with "perfectionism", which is actually a NEGATIVE personality trait and a highly self-destructive one and./or destructive to those around the "perfectionist". Especially when a lot of "perfectionism" is PROJECTED ONTO OTHERS while being unachieved by the "perfectionist". And there are different definitions of "perfectionist". Doing something "perfectly" is a good thing when perfection is required. Such as brain surgery. And when its demanded by and delivered by the same person with no negative effects on others. Bad "perfectionism" is of the "do as I say, not as I do" variety and the "perfectionist" will often only demand perfection from others in situations that don't require it and/or its impossible to achieve. Which is most situations. Or they'll insist on doing something perfectly because they know, if only subconsciously, it upsets someone else, causes them discomfort in some way or just keeps them from going somewhere or doing something they'd much rather be doing besides waiting on "perfection". In reality, OCD is very rarely the "repetition" thing and when it does happen its mainly a coping mechanism or stalling tactic while they resolve the "disagreement" between their rational thoughts and desire to be "normal" and their "irrational" and supposedly "abnormal" urges. By and large, so-called "mental illness" is a giant crock of psuedo-scientific bullshit. There is no such thing as "normal" or "abnormal" behavior and no person ever behaves consistently for any significant length of time. The brain never stops learning and the mind never stops growing and even things like "depression" can be "positives" for the "depressed" person if slowing down and not being wound up and hyperactive and stressed to the max until they're exhausted and then crashing to recover was "normal" but led them to....depression. The only perfection possible is in our minds when we do what we want to do and accomplish what we want to accomplish and don't let others "psychoanalyze" us and tell us that we're not "normal" simply because we're not what they think we should be. Which usually is actually what THEY think THEY should be or ARE and have their OWN issues with and would like to work around THAT by just having someone else validate them by agreeing with their assessment and being "normal" for them.
Me thinks your back-to-back comments are a little OCD. “The only perfection possible is in our minds when we do what we want to do and accomplish what we want to accomplish and don’t let others psychoanalyze us and tell us that we’re not normal simply because were not what they think we should be.” You literally destroy your whole argument with this one (run-on) sentence. But I’m pretty sure Larry and this body guy are taking your advice and “accomplishing what they want to accomplish” and not letting you “psychoanalyze” them for “not being what you think they should be”.🙄

I used to work in a bodyshop that is owned by British guy, the attention to detail was just as equal and unless you have worked in this business people don't understand. He would always say, painting over dents is a waste of paint so he would fix the smaller imperfection cause he hates painting something with $500 paint only to see a little ding or dent.

it varies a lot, most body shops dont just work on a single car at a time. My family has 3 shops that we own and to do a similar job of just sanding, basic repair, and painting without any major body work will run around 8 thousand.

I'm sure it sounds weird to most people, but watching this series helps my ocd. Most of the time I try to ignore my ocd, but sometimes I get overwhelmed and I need an outlet. Usually that means playing a game like factorio where I can lay everything down perfectly. However, I'm a real human being that is also a car enthusiast, namely towards an mk3 supra. I've got a '91 with the rare shadow grey interior, rare factory sunroof, was a factory turbo car with the r154 manual transmission. Mine is special because it has a 1jzgte swap from a jza70 half cut. My ultimate goal for the car is to turn it into a show car style of detail, but drive it every weekend, long trips, and the occasional track day and autocross. I want a restoration and paint job exactly like this. Rewatching this series made me realize I'll feel more complete as a human being if I can pathologically restore my car making absolutely every detail perfect. I really respect that ultimately this car got a clear bra over the entire car so you can use it without feeling guilty and obsessing over every little bump, rock, or bird poop. All cars are meant to be used, some meant to be enjoyed, and some are meant to be art. When you can use, enjoy, and gaze at your pride and joy... there's no greater feeling (at least to me). 😊
I've done this before to my old 280z when I was stripping all the paint off. Was really satisfying to do honestly. It's a lot of fun to just kinda scrape all the paint off and have bare metal left behind.
as a paint sprayer panel beater myself this guy is a perfectionist.the only problem i can see is it will cost a bloody fortune for labour and materierials time
I wouldn't paint one for $1500. Depending on the color I've seen a qt of basecoat cost $350. Just a strip and paint I would have charged $10,000-$15,000 for this one.
I couldn't help but admire George's craftsmanship and attention to detail. The fact he has so much knowledge at his disposal is amazing. Hats off to the man
He does good work but never do what he did without protective eye ware at 6:57 min. with that wire wheel. The little bits of wire will go flying off and puncture your eyes. Shop safety is most important.
Yago Usera that was my thought also. Fun fact did you know the acid that is used to clean concrete off of equipment was first discovered in the human eye?
I used to use the grinder wheel in shop class without safety glasses half the time because it would shoot everything down, then my optometrist said there were tiny little rust spots and debris on my contacts and that’s probably why they were drying out quicker than usual. That was enough of a wake up call.
this is relaxing my grandpa owned a shop until the day he died a couple years ago (almost 90 years old) and my dad owned a shop and a restoration business so its nice seeing it all again so many hours sanding for them lol anyway awesome video
Really beneficial watching this video. Well done. I thought I knew just enough about painting to know "all these paint shops are charging too, too much for paint work...". Well you have educated me and I know very little about painting and I now at least know why it costs as it does. Thank you.
True. Imagine having rock chips on this beautiful car, or even worse, someone smashing into him. On the other hand, I don't want this car to become a garage queen (and that's probably Larry's opinion as well). So my recommendation would be: Keep driving it, but don't race it. Get another cheap 964, and turn it into a hardcore race car, with roll cage, livery etc.
Ryan Nelson Not only that, but if you're going to race an old car, you're going to want to have it stripped down and know what's going on inside to avoid a catastrophe
I think those extra steps that most people would simply skip is the mark of a man who loves his job and loves cars thus wants to make them last for as long as possible. Its super admirable and I hope he's making a killing in his career
Here I am wishing George had painted my Corvette. The half a$$ job on my front bumper area; is starting to feather & crack. It's only been 3 yrs, driven only on occasion, & garages full time. Smh
Watched this with my kids... they were totally enthralled. That was the quietest they've been all day! Now they're looking forward to another episode tomorrow.

There are people who do their job for sustenance or money, and then there are people like George who are basically in a flow with what he does. Such a mindful, handy and efficient worker!
I do everything this guy does but for airplanes. (except for getting rid of the rust from the body) And I've worked with that aircraft paint remover before. If it's the same chemical I've used (Methylene Chloride) That's some strong shit. I hope this shop has a proper method of disposing of the used paint stripper, otherwise, they EPA is gonna rain hell upon you guys. If you don't want problems with the EPA, there's now an environmental friendly paint stripper that still does the job really good.
it had this paint stripper called bill hirsch from eastwood company many years ago. Came in spraycans. Is that the same chemical used? It was also very agressive agent , banned in europe by their ridicilous environment policy
Guido Rollard I've never heard of paint stripper coming in spray cans.. It's most likely not he same considering how strong methylene chloride is I don't see why they would put it in a spray can where the spray cap wouldn't melt (assuming it is plastic) Here in the states, the use of methylene chloride has been banned in most states and now we use whatever the environmentally friendly stuff is, I have not bothered to search what the chemical composition is. I'll do that and get back to you so you can use it, it's pretty good.
ok thanks for feedback. It is ( was ) a agressive sort of paintstripper but just checked and it is not available anymore. The stuff came as for brushing on surface or as i had, in earosol or spraycans . What we have in europe ( holland ) is crap, expensive ca. 35 € (45$ gallon), i used it as i did not know, but never again. Just like the surface metal primer we had back in the days. Called red lead primer. The best there was, but due to environment policy, banned years ago. We've got all the water ( acrylic ) based shit that wont cut it.
Sidney Isais what is the name of the environmental paint stripper used for autobody work? And the best bumper materials for fixing a bumper that won't cost too much money. It just has to be touched up spot area painted the entire bumper doesn't need painting.
I'm repainting my car right now... in the prep stages but this makes me want to restart fully and go from the ground up and do it right. Thanks... I'm happy and mad about it.
Daniel, this is an absolute waste of time and money. I could replace every rotted panel and use almost no body filler much faster and cheaper. To add to that the paint process at Ammo is very inefficient, they waste a shit ton of material. You shouldnt need that many steps to get flawless paint unless the guy doing the prep sucks.
The paint he's using is from a German company it's their "Basic" black runs about $400 a gallon. Rovid, I understand this, but I don't understand $1000 dollar computers and TVs. Just depends what you enjoy in life, what your willing to put your time and money into.
Hello Larry. I really love your videos, thank you so much for putting so much time and passion into educating everyone about caring for their cars. While I was watching this, I noticed your cool, pinpoint applicator/brush for filling tiny holes in the paint at the 7:39 mark of this video. May I please ask where you can get one of those? They look so much more precise and surgical than anything I've seen before. Thank you and keep up the great work. All the best!
I was painting my bike and the paint remover went through my gloves and hit my hands, after a few minutes I lost feeling in my fingertips for about a month
You know you've worked really hard for your money when you're in pain watching your car being stripped. It also shows some serious love for it as well.
I always use that aircraft coating remover for paint stripping. I've been using it since about 2002 or 2003 since I was turned onto it by a website forum that I was on for my generation two Integra (90-93) and I wanted to repaint my valve cover. It works for any paint from what I can tell.
Thanks Pete! I'm gonna do this on my 2014 silverado. The top plastic piece on my bumper wasn't prepped for the paint to bond to the plastic so it's peeling off. Since I got black fender flares and my truck is white, I'm just gonna strip the paint and leave it black. Thanks for the video!!
I was tninking the same thing it is in fact. I was alos like why the fuck is he spraying paint around it, thats a carbon bumper probably over 20 grand.
Im doing paintjobs myself, the mistake he is doing is big using white primer on black car. imagine those rock chips on bonnet but only in white color on black car ;)))
I’m very concerned about the part where they used the paint stripper without eye wear and respirator. That stuff contains methylene chloride which is extremely dangerous. Look it up. Several have died from using it.
Yeah seriously. Dude is an idiot with a death wish! If I saw one of my employee's doing this in the shop they'd be up for a dismissal. Shop safety is paramount and this shit can literally give you a one way ticket to terminal cancerville.
It's terrible, repainting a part of a car without bringing the car down to bare metal, a 69 Cougar I had repainted had 5 layers of paint, white, red, yellow, blue, green 😂
You only need to strip to metal if paint is to thick or wrecked. If keeping the same colour and still factory paint in good condition you only really need to remove the clear coat.

10:32 Are we just going to ignore the Pagani Huayra front bumper in the background?
holy crap I just noticed that
noo wanna write the same xD
I had to go back and check to make sure my eyes weren't messing with me
Came here to make sure someone else noticed it

who else here has no interest in doing this but is watching anyway because its so satisfying
It wasn't painful to watch, now all I need is my enemy's car to try this on.
That’s why am here 🤣
😆😆😆
It was really paintful 🤪
@@pobel87 awesome video
Thinking the exact same thing.
I don't know why but I always find myself re watching old ammo videos
The sheer effort put forth in this video blows my mind
I've done this before to my old 280z when I was stripping all the paint off. Was really satisfying to do honestly. It's a lot of fun to just kinda scrape all the paint off and have bare metal left behind.
as a paint sprayer panel beater myself this guy is a perfectionist.the only problem i can see is it will cost a bloody fortune for labour and materierials time
now i know why a paint job is 1500+ , new respect
lol, where i live they charged 500 just for the front bumper.
Kiera D. Lol at my shop we charge minimum 3k for a complete respray. Labour ain't cheap
lol, mine was $2600 usd, for the bumper
Kiera, a good paint job is $5-$6k this is more like $40-$70k
I wouldn't paint one for $1500. Depending on the color I've seen a qt of basecoat cost $350. Just a strip and paint I would have charged $10,000-$15,000 for this one.
I couldn't help but admire George's craftsmanship and attention to detail. The fact he has so much knowledge at his disposal is amazing. Hats off to the man
I had watched this about a year ago. Now I'm watching it again cos the prep looks so satisfying .

Watching George work is extremely satisfying! (watching a master at work tends to be very nice!)
He does good work but never do what he did without protective eye ware at 6:57 min. with that wire wheel. The little bits of wire will go flying off and puncture your eyes. Shop safety is most important.
Yago Usera I learned that the hard way but with an angle grinder and grinding old bodyfiller from a botched repair..
Just engage your safety squints! It'll be fine
Yago Usera Ikr I learnt that in year 9 ffs
Yago Usera that was my thought also.
Fun fact did you know the acid that is used to clean concrete off of equipment was first discovered in the human eye?
I used to use the grinder wheel in shop class without safety glasses half the time because it would shoot everything down, then my optometrist said there were tiny little rust spots and debris on my contacts and that’s probably why they were drying out quicker than usual. That was enough of a wake up call.
Simply nailogica?
munmilks yep her snap
this is relaxing my grandpa owned a shop until the day he died a couple years ago (almost 90 years old) and my dad owned a shop and a restoration business so its nice seeing it all again so many hours sanding for them lol anyway awesome video
George is my Spirit Human being 😂❤️ Damn, a Perfectionist like him needs to live forever.
Is this a pagani front bumper at 11:32?
Chris Trick it's Sparky's. Or "The King" his bumpers bottom "lip" was cracked pretty bad
Chris Trick yes, yes it is
Chris Trick Yes
+Chris Trick You're right! It is!
Really beneficial watching this video. Well done. I thought I knew just enough about painting to know "all these paint shops are charging too, too much for paint work...". Well you have educated me and I know very little about painting and I now at least know why it costs as it does. Thank you.
BTW, I liked and subscribed.
you're going to need another 964 for track days as it would be sacrilege to run this better than new car out there again
True. Imagine having rock chips on this beautiful car, or even worse, someone smashing into him. On the other hand, I don't want this car to become a garage queen (and that's probably Larry's opinion as well). So my recommendation would be: Keep driving it, but don't race it. Get another cheap 964, and turn it into a hardcore race car, with roll cage, livery etc.
sugarsaint Larry will probably still drive it on the track. Cars are meant to be used, having them look nice is a bonus.
Car has had full body PPF applied so it can be enjoyed.
Ryan Nelson Not only that, but if you're going to race an old car, you're going to want to have it stripped down and know what's going on inside to avoid a catastrophe
"Get another cheap 964" lol, good luck with that
Watching a perfectionist work is so fun! Wow!
I think those extra steps that most people would simply skip is the mark of a man who loves his job and loves cars thus wants to make them last for as long as possible. Its super admirable and I hope he's making a killing in his career
I love how he doesn't slack on "minute" details.
I work at a bodyshop and when you start removing paint in front of a customer, they get super nervous and sometimes ask you why your doing it.
THEY LOOK CRAZY AT YOU WHEN YOU HIT THE CAR TO FIX A DENT😫 LOL
I'm not a big car person, but it's always interesting to see how passionate people put so much effort/detail into the work they do.
George has the level of focus and determination I desire to have.
Here I am wishing George had painted my Corvette. The half
a$$ job on my front bumper area; is starting to feather & crack. It's only been 3 yrs, driven only on occasion, & garages full time. Smh
Watched this with my kids... they were totally enthralled. That was the quietest they've been all day! Now they're looking forward to another episode tomorrow.
There are two types of people watching this video:
People who are interested in cars
And people who watch simplynailogical
i just find it satisfying
Olivia Graham I don’t even know who simply logical is
This was actually incredibly easy to watch. You should rethink your video title.
its so pleasing to watch someone highly skilled who takes their craft seriously
Is this car going to be a winter beater?
zomski101 lol
winter daily i think

@@AwkwardPastaSauce me neither! 😅😅
There are people who do their job for sustenance or money, and then there are people like George who are basically in a flow with what he does. Such a mindful, handy and efficient worker!
I do everything this guy does but for airplanes. (except for getting rid of the rust from the body)
And I've worked with that aircraft paint remover before.
If it's the same chemical I've used (Methylene Chloride)
That's some strong shit.
It's most likely not he same considering how strong methylene chloride is I don't see why they would put it in a spray can where the spray cap wouldn't melt (assuming it is plastic)
Here in the states, the use of methylene chloride has been banned in most states and now we use whatever the environmentally friendly stuff is, I have not bothered to search what the chemical composition is.
This wasn't hard to watch, it was actually very interesting. Thank you for sharing this.
I'm repainting my car right now... in the prep stages but this makes me want to restart fully and go from the ground up and do it right. Thanks... I'm happy and mad about it.
I bet this guy charges a good penny to paint your car, but I would pay because I know that it would be almost perfect
I love people who are good at their craft. Its kind of rare but fun to watch. Go Ammo
I was painting my bike and the paint remover went through my gloves and hit my hands, after a few minutes I lost feeling in my fingertips for about a month
You know you've worked really hard for your money when you're in pain watching your car being stripped. It also shows some serious love for it as well.
this is the 5th time i watch this, i dont own a car or care about the subject matter but its just so satisfying to watch
Anyone see the pagani bumper lol
I was just about to post that. lol
Richard Hammond must of went in another parking garage.
Yeah... that's not any Huayra bumper it's "The King"s bumper... it belongs to this guy on Instagram "sparky18888"
It looks like it from the Huayra The King.
Koji Takata it definitely is, because "The King" is a 1 of 1 spec and if you look at pictures of the car it's exactly the same
A true master of his Trade.
Insane - this guy works with passion and patience, I have never seen before.
Meanwhile i dont even sand before i spray paint my Jeep
Special Snowflake Cherokee?
tasty staples Yeah
I don't even spray my jeep, I use a large brush. xD
Special Snowflake grand?
Kinyanjui Plays Regular Cherokee
I paint racing helmets, only one at a time, and this is the level of detail I strive for.
One sixth of total ratings for this video is a thumbs down. Why????? This video was lovingly created by a proper car enthusiast. 100 thumbs up!
OCD next level... ;). My kinda bodyshop!!
OCD on their car doesn't necessarily mean the same with your car.
Where is George from? I'd like to be his apprentice and learn from him! :D
I always use that aircraft coating remover for paint stripping. I've been using it since about 2002 or 2003 since I was turned onto it by a website forum that I was on for my generation two Integra (90-93) and I wanted to repaint my valve cover. It works for any paint from what I can tell.
That man is amazing! How much did this all cost?!
Incredible attention to detail wow!
12:03 Is that a Pagani Huayra front bumper?! :0
Dude you must be a GOAT at eye spy
Casual
I was tninking the same thing it is in fact. I was alos like why the fuck is he spraying paint around it, thats a carbon bumper probably over 20 grand.
@@tom_nobreaks6450 It was probably replaced because of damage and now he will repair it and sell it.
It’s the front bumper from Sparky1888’s Pagani Huayra called "The King"
Check him out on Instagram, Sparky1888.
I came here from simply naillogical I didn’t know this was so satisfying 😂
George has to be one of the best body shop and painters I’ve ever seen this guy is amazing.
Im doing paintjobs myself, the mistake he is doing is big
using white primer on black car.
imagine those rock chips on bonnet but only in white color on black car ;)))
"next week's video"
Its been a month when are you going to upload?
*he's probably dead by now*
He was trying to find his car in the ocean
ah , he swallowed a can of paint thinner and died in a curl with a bubble sticking out of his Ass.
10:32 Is that a Huayra bumper?
Robert K yeah I think so I had to replay that part lol
Yes, I believe it belongs to @sparky1888
Yes
I bet George is from Romania,,,anyway he does a good job :))
From his accent, I think George is Italian.
He has a very dry T and a very strong A sound, so he is probably Italian
Wow, I have never seen this level of attention to detail before. Impressive.
If there's a Pagani Huayra bumper in the workshop you're in good hands.
Wow, that is master-level craftsmanship. A joy to behold.
It's terrible, repainting a part of a car without bringing the car down to bare metal, a 69 Cougar I had repainted had 5 layers of paint, white, red, yellow, blue, green 😂
My rx7 has a layer of factory primer, factory paint, clearcoat, bondo, base paint from PO, bondo again, base paint once more and then clearcoat..
You only need to strip to metal if paint is to thick or wrecked. If keeping the same colour and still factory paint in good condition you only really need to remove the clear coat.
@@SupraJoel I just find it much cleaner to start over
@Derrick Talbert just buy a new one lol
Arne I’m about to strip my RX7 Fd3 and I dread to think what I might find lol
Larry's car is going to end up in a Museum
would love to know more about George. Been looking for someone to prep my car for a repaint correctly and honestly. Best paint prepping ever.
Unlike the title, this really wasn't that hard to watch.
Can u drop the car into the ocean for educational purposes ? 😂🤷♀️
Your Name 😱😂😂😂😂😂😁 I would like to see the video of that..
