Now that is one heck of a trip to the scrap yard in an awesome scrapper truck! Over here in North Idaho / Spokane area $40 a ton for the same steel material. Prices will turn around at some point. God Bless brother.
I got a question for you. I stopped going to my local scrap yard recently because in tbe steel yard i always get punctured tires. Then i have to go fix a tire leak. Any advice on that?
That is always a concern of mine as well. This yard tries their best to sweep up areas and keep things clean and I haven’t had one punctured yet in over 3 years. I know that the slower you drive, that will help to prevent like a nail or screw being tipped up by the tire, slower you go the more likely the screw or nail will lay flat and not puncture the tire. Have you told your yard that they need to clean things up? I bet you’re not the only one whose tires are getting flat 😢. That sucks, sorry to hear that.
Nice load there! When I saw you had to use a ferry, I thought, there goes a big chunk of your profit! But then when I found out you live on an island, you have to go to the mainland for supplies anyway! Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks for taking us along with you, I was curious as to why you didn’t strip that big aluminum wire. Is the difference in price for clean and insulated wire small enough to not make it worth the time? I appreciate the scenery on your drive, it truly is beautiful.

I had a question but I got my answer.. but I'll ask it anyways. I was going to ask why u dont strip the aluminum wire? But since the prices are so low where u are u probably dont strip it because of the weight.. which is ok too. Because who really wants to strip that with a blade.. also James where do u live for the prices of scrap to be that low in price if u dont mind me asking? I know the scrapyard I go to gives one price for any kind of aluminum which sucks. They give us sheet aluminum price which is the lowest price u can get for aluminum. But as always love ur videos and am learning alot from watching. Also that truck of urs is solid and u take great care of it. Seems like the older trucks are made way better than these newer trucks . 👍👍
Yeah when they give me the proper price there isn’t enough difference for me to strip aluminum wire. I live in Washington state. Yes I love these older trucks, they definitely were built to last. Thank you so much my friend. Hope you have a great week.
First thing, how far is it?to the scrapyard from your house Next my scrapyard pays more for just rotors I actually have 2000lb I'm going to wait till I have 6000lb and take them in separate As a rule of thumb I always check my ticket before I go to the pay window Mistakes can be made people are human I have had it happen with new people working there most of the time I deal with 1of3 guys it cuts down on mistakes and confusion 🤠
@@fraudanator2249 no idea since I have to travel across water lol. I’m not worried about it, they’ll get it sorted out. I think all the new guys is what caused the issues, but we are humans and mistakes happen
Something’s off with that aluminum wire for sure🫤 I’ve always gotten like $0.75/lb unstripped because wire is one of the highest grades of aluminum even with insulation on still. Your $65/ton is better than my $45/ton for shred steel in Utah. Washington is so green and beautiful. 🌲
How much do you feel like they shorted you? Unfortunately, it feels like most businesses we deal with is giving the customer the least amount as possible, or charging the most for the least.
Steel is down so I wasn’t really surprised with that, but aluminum has been steady at my yard for a few months and i recently brought in aluminum wire just like that and they gave me 17 cents a pound instead of 5. I think that’s cause of the new employees
We dont weigh the vehicle for the non-ferrous we take it to a seperate area and weigh our totes, buckets or whatever it is in then go to the big scale for the steel.
How expensive is the ferry? Where you live is such a beautiful place in the world. God did a fabulous job on this world, but wow, your area is gorgeous. $230 plus you helped people get rid of their messes, and you saves God’s earth some ugly. God Bless you.
I would have put up a fight and said to people in office u call rims unprepared steel and I bet u they would have fixed it for u my yard is 130 a ton for #1 steel and tin is only 50 a ton which is crazy
@ if there new u have to tell them what it is because they will rob u because they know nothing if u want to work at scrap yard u have to take metal tests to see if u know what’s what’s before they put them on yard my yard over spring time they hired a new guy which knew nothing about scrap metal I had to show him and tell him and he say to me I trust u I have been scraping for 20 years now
@@hisandherscoinsI was too busy to go back and tell them they made a mistake. Next time I go they will straighten things out. The boss man saw my load but he took lunch before I unloaded, so he’ll know they messed up. I don’t get bothered by this sort of stuff though.
I'm sorry your scrap yard cheats you so bad for all the hard work involved. I just happen to have the receipt from a run to the scrap yard on Nov 25th 24 a little north of Minneapolis. #2 prepared $140/tn. Sheet iron $100/tn. #2 Cast $100/tn. 304 SS $.50/lb. Sheet Alum $.60/lb. Extruded Alum $.75/lb. Cast alum $.55/lb. yellow brass $2.30/lb. #2 copper $3.35/lb! got $280 for the load. I started scraping copper and brass when I was 8 years old and still in my blood at 69. It's just hard to see anything thrown away when it can be scrapped so I pick stuff up when I see it.
I’m not worried about the prices, they’ve been on the low end for decades. Me too, I hate seeing stuff end up in the landfills. Thank you for watching.
Guess u don't have a yard that has rotor n drum grade. Yard I deal with I get 300.00 per nt cdn for them vs like 180 or so cast/steel I know u live in the uk but still.they know them rotors n drums worth vs reg steel or cast
Yeah I know yards just call it cast more so if ppl don't ask.they are made of " unbreakable cast" Like yard I deal with will pay cast price for them if u don't know any better. I figured it out when I watched two workers plus excavator with a mag picking through the massive "steel pile " filling a shipping can. No way they pay three ppl to pick through the pile for them afterall.
They are definitely high grade which is why most yards have their own category for them. There’s a few reason this yard doesn’t have good prices but one is the next closest yard is another hour away so not really any competition. It’s all good though, I don’t rely on selling metals to pay my bills. I’d be homeless if that were the case 🤣
Thats awful why do even try to scrap there? Our copper bars bright is at 5.28 per pound. Our aluminim extrusion is around 1.28. Our clean sheet aluminim is around 88 cents per pound. Our tin shred is at 265.00 per net ton and tin enamel is at 220 per net ton. Our uellow brass is at 3.39 per pound. 40 percent copper wire is at around 1.82 per pound. I scrap alot here in canada and if prices were that low i wouldnt even bother. Thats rough man. Basically not worth doing. Have u tried driving a ways to get anywhere close to somwrhing decent. If i were u i would stop. Mine as well flip burgers in my opinion
I sell metals but probably end up with them in the same way as James, it's just the by-product of what we do. We are basically getting paid for our "trash" 👍
@@taunusrunner3767 I get a better price than the general public. I’ve spoken with folks who’ve been going there for the last couple decades, they’ve always been on the low end up scrap prices. It doesn’t bother me though, selling metals isn’t my main source of income.

Okie Scrapper dropped off a ton of steel a couple days ago and they were paying $175/ton. It's crazy that it is that much of a difference.
Too much government regulations here and just the over all cost for them to operate. They been low for longer than I’ve been alive 🤣
Whew nice load! Nice trip down them winding roads in an over loaded Chevy 😂!! Loved the ferry ride, to much water for me to drink though lol. I hate that they messed you around on some of the prices. The yard makes so much more money than we do. Great video Brother! I really enjoyed it..
Thank you! Not bad in real life, only when x16 speed 😂
It is what it is, I’m not bothered by it though. Everything works out in the end.
You sir have a lot of money laying around at your place my friend! And that hit me right in the face that hurt when that rolled and hit me 😂😂😂 you got that back of your truck filled to the rim!! Better slow it down before you get a speeding ticket 😂😂 that ferry is free? The one at the house it but ours is tiny yours is huge! And we can’t get out we gotta sit in our cars it all adds up extra money in the pocket buddy another awesome video my friend god bless and hope you have a great weekend!
I do have a lot of stuff 😂
Oops, sorry about that buddy lol.
It’s free going in but costs coming back home.
Heck yeah buddy, it sure does.
God bless you too my friend.
Geez you got tons 😳 payday 😉
Almost 1.5 tons lol. Thank you my friend
Absolutely beautiful countryside! How far of a drive is it to your yard and what body of water do you have to cross on a ferry?!?
@@bentleyalder5492 it is beautiful here. Not sure how far but it’s a 45 minute ferry ride and another 30 minutes to where I’m headed (scrapyard just a few minutes from there )
Good morning Brother
Hello
Nice haul,to bad steel is so low in your neck of the woods. But all in all great load!
Thank you! Yeah I knew it was going to be low, but it’s ok. I’m happy with $230 and making more space at home.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Great video man! Crazy you need to take a ferry ⛴️ to get to the scrap yard!!! But what a view! You fish? Man if I lived that close to the water I would never need to buy food lol God bless and Merry Christmas
Thank you! I used to fish a lot more but the government has made it almost impossible for us now.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas and God bless.
Thank you for the concussion @2:05 😵💫
No problem buddy 🤣
Heavy load. That would flatten my dodge lol. Nice country you live in.
It’s my paradise!
I’m impressed by my truck. 3/4 ton camper special. Built tough.
I should be there soon. Just waiting for the golf cart battery to charge.
@@HHRecycling sweet! Bring some poutine with ya lol
@scrapitall200 okay, I'll have to turn around.
@@HHRecycling great, you’ll never get here. Just forget it buddy 🤣
@@scrapitall200 let's aim for next Christmas
@@HHRecycling deal!
First thing, how far is it?to the scrapyard from your house
Next my scrapyard pays more for just rotors I actually have 2000lb I'm going to wait till I have 6000lb and take them in separate
As a rule of thumb I always check my ticket before I go to the pay window
Mistakes can be made people are human I have had it happen with new people working there most of the time I deal with 1of3 guys it cuts down on mistakes and confusion 🤠
@@fraudanator2249 no idea since I have to travel across water lol.
I’m not worried about it, they’ll get it sorted out.
I think all the new guys is what caused the issues, but we are humans and mistakes happen
@scrapitall200 👍🤠
@@fraudanator2249 hope you have a great weekend my friend.
That’s one mean scrap yard ,looks like you are in a rural area ,and maybe haven’t got a choice . In Birmingham UK ,there are so many .
Next closest yard is another hour away. I bring them my copper and brass, but not the other stuff.
how much spend for the ride since the scrapyard?
I don’t calculate that since I go off island anyway for monthly errands.
Brother James I miss you
Her brother. Just talked to you yesterday
Looks like current insulated aluminum wire/ACSR is $0.46/lb in Utah. In the range of most aluminum categories.
That was a mistake by them.
Hi James. What state are you from?
@@АндрійОленич-ш5у I live in Washington State
How much do you feel like they shorted you? Unfortunately, it feels like most businesses we deal with is giving the customer the least amount as possible, or charging the most for the least.
Steel is down so I wasn’t really surprised with that, but aluminum has been steady at my yard for a few months and i recently brought in aluminum wire just like that and they gave me 17 cents a pound instead of 5. I think that’s cause of the new employees
@@scrapitall200 Hopefully they will do the right thing and straighten it out. Probably wouldn't hold your breath though lol!
They will, I have a good relationship with the scale boss who’s been there for years.
😎👍👍👍❤️
Thank you 😃
We dont weigh the vehicle for the non-ferrous we take it to a seperate area and weigh our totes, buckets or whatever it is in then go to the big scale for the steel.
I don’t either, that’s just me checking in with them. They use two smaller scales for non ferrous
How expensive is the ferry? Where you live is such a beautiful place in the world. God did a fabulous job on this world, but wow, your area is gorgeous. $230 plus you helped people get rid of their messes, and you saves God’s earth some ugly. God Bless you.
It is so beautiful here, especially during the spring and summer.
If I buy a 5 ride it’s about $33 for a ticket.
God bless you and the little one.
If you ever want to sell the square body let me know
You’ll be the first but I’d have to go full crazy to ever sell 😂
@@scrapitall200 well to be honest aren’t we all halfway there nowadays 😂😂
I’m definitely a little past half way 🤣
See my yard pays the same for cast steel and heavy steel so I just mixs it
My yard is usually the same, but the new guys I believe messed up. lol
I would have put up a fight and said to people in office u call rims unprepared steel and I bet u they would have fixed it for u my yard is 130 a ton for #1 steel and tin is only 50 a ton which is crazy
They’ll sort it out next time I’m in there. It’s just new guys not knowing what they are doing lol
My scrap yard pays at the moment 220 Canadian per ton for steel.
@@ThrifterGuy so that’s around $155 usd, definitely better than what I got lol. Normally what it should’ve been is around $125 a ton
Bro they pay too litle.
Completely out of my control and the next yard is an hour away from that yard.
Hai from Finland. you got very low money for this iron scrap.we have today price 250 eur Ton about 260dollar
Thank you for watching.
Guess u don't have a yard that has rotor n drum grade.
Yard I deal with I get 300.00 per nt cdn for them vs like 180 or so cast/steel
I know u live in the uk but still.they know them rotors n drums worth vs reg steel or cast
@@thomasdorey3296 they are supposed to go as cast iron at that yard.
Yeah I know yards just call it cast more so if ppl don't ask.they are made of " unbreakable cast"
Like yard I deal with will pay cast price for them if u don't know any better.
I love scrapping. Selling metals isn’t my main source of income
I sell metals but probably end up with them in the same way as James, it's just the by-product of what we do. We are basically getting paid for our "trash" 👍
@@Wreck-Gar very well put my friend!
ther realy ripped you off
They aren’t ripping me off. It’s where I live.
@@scrapitall200 the price here is nearly the dubbel.... for all the metals
in germany
@@taunusrunner3767 I get a better price than the general public. I’ve spoken with folks who’ve been going there for the last couple decades, they’ve always been on the low end up scrap prices. It doesn’t bother me though, selling metals isn’t my main source of income.
@@scrapitall200 Ok, that is good 🙂
Your scrapyard pays terrible prices. Boycott them for a couple months...go in with something small and make a stink. Id imagine theyre capitalizing on the lack of competition.
There is multiple factors why the prices are low. Lack of competition is definitely one of them.
No ceny nie są zbyt wysokie.🛻🛻
They are always low in my area but it’s ok. Thank you for watching.
