I love that you pray at the end of each video. God bless Mark in whatever he is going through. I am liking the machete for opening those motor pieces. I need to get one of those! Thanks for all of your videos. I enjoy them all.
Great breakdown video, James. I didn't realize that those were silver contacts attached to the brass terminals. I've recycled close to a hundred furnaces in my day, and many of those squirrel cage motors are a challenge to extract due to rust on the shaft, as you stated. I appreciate your technique in removing the motor from the back - I learned something new today.👍 Thank you
I just got 4 of these and 5 exterior air units from a guy at an apartment complex I was diving at on Tuesday. He asked me to stop getting in the dumpster but told me to meet him around back. He said they can't get anyone to haul off the appliances they remove from apartments anymore because no one wants to work. I gave him my number and told him I'll pick up anything they have if he will just call me. We will see how it plays out!
I always keep the squirrel cage fans, if the motor is good as a spare for my wood furnace. They also make nice shop fans. Awesome teardown video. 🙏 For Mark, and God bless you!
when you get so many of them it only pays to sit on a few of them. I think i have 6 really nice ones right now saved in the shop but i have around 20 sitting outside waiting to get ripped apart.
I use them for all kinds of stuff. My generator shed has one to ventilate the enclosure. I have another in my chicken coop. One in my side garage door window. And one as an attic fan. I also use them to blow up the inflatable Christmas inflatables. As they age the nylon leaks to the point where the small cheap blower can't keep them inflated. I also save both of the fans from microwaves. The small ones work great for bathroom exhaust fans. And the double squirrel cage exhaust fan moves a ton of air. They make good carpet blowers if your carpet gets soaked
I love when I see those in our yard next to the scrap metal bin ,lots of good stuff to be had. Sometimes we get the old fashioned furnaces that have big juicy transformers and those brass fittings along the burner bars. I go after my shift and strip down the good stuff and throw the shred in the recycle bin. Our company usually brings in 2000-3000 pounds of shred a week, not to mention the aluminum and stainless (different piles). I`m just heading outside to cut apart more condenser units from those air handlers. Man ,some of those motors inside have so much copper, the ends look like big fat muffin tops !! LOL. My machete needs a good sharpening also ( one of my stators had the hidden rivets).Another great video James ,love it. Take care of yourself and enjoy your weekend. Sincerely your ,Paul T in Canada.
That is really awesome! I’d love to find one of the old ones, sounds like they are awesome to scrap. Yeah they do, some folks don’t like to scrap them but I sure do. Thank you, Paul and you too my friend.

A whole of goodness in them that’s for sure buddy! You make everything look so easy buddy! Ole spider! Another awesome video my friend hope you have a great weekend god bless buddy!
You’re the first person I have come across with that method of motor removal. It took me a long time to figure out. I have wasted so much time oiling the shaft, hammering, using an air hammer, plasma, whatever to get it out. Then one day it dawned on me…🤣 I also cut off the stuck bolts or sometimes reach in with a long reach 90 degree needle nose to hold the nut. Now fan motors on a condenser will sometimes be just rusty enough that I can snug them with the impact and they snap.
Hey SiA! Great video again, was enjoyable to watch. For the next at least 3 weeks i will go to rehab for my back, after im back i will watch all videos i missed. I SWEAR! Have a good time, mate! See You soon!

Nice silver plated contacts! Another scrap down makes out for a lot better payout than the shred price ! Whoo hooo copper. Those swirl cages can be fun! Good video Brother..
I've never done one before but I have two really big and old ones to do. One is from the 60s and heated the theatre. I'll probably do a video on that one. I wasn't going to scrap the other one, but it looks like it might be worth it, especially since it's bigger than this one, so might get more copper out of it. Thanks for the video!
Another great informative video I like the idea with the machete. I've never tried it, but I am definitely going to. Also by watching you use it, I think I can tweak it a little bit to make it work even better.🤠
@scrapitall200 I was thinking on welding, a 1/2 inch by 8 inch by 3 inch, plate on top of the machete. Now you have a more solid spot to hit, and as long as you hit it fairly straight, it won't tip. Left or right on you. Also, then you can use a 2 pound lump Hammer, instead of a 16 ounce hammer I find that a dead blow is sometimes more efficient than tapping.. But I may be completely mistaken because I haven't. Built or tested one yet again. It's a welding thing.🤠
@@fraudanator2249 I love your idea and from my experience, I believe your idea will work perfectly. And a bigger hammer will definitely be better. I really need to get a bigger one myself.
@scrapitall200 The only difference is with a small hammer to get a blood Blister. With a 2 pound lump hammer, You get a trip to the emergency room with a broken hand On a side note, I just got 5 more washer or dryers to go with the 25 other ones that I haven't gotten to yet.😮😢🤣🤣🤣🤠

@@alandykes2519 thank you! Yeah some have some iron in them but there is still a little bit of silver in them. Not sure exactly why there is iron but my guess is to add strength to them so over time, they don’t wear out quickly since silver is relatively soft.

Just from experience and asking my dad and watching UA-cam videos. My Grandpa was also a very smart and handy man and I learned quite a bit from him growing up.
Ya love your breakdown but time is money ..if you had a steady supply would it make more sense to send out dirty unless there is real money in some. Part by which you would hold back for another day?
I’m a hobby scrapper so I scrap it all. You’ll always make more money by scrapping things down but for some people it’s not worth their time. All depends on each person.
11:55 U don't need angle grinder; angle grinders are dangerous. U could slam motor on ground to make windings flush with steel case, then put motor between legs & pound out using punches. Also, cutting all string off is waste of time. Keeping windings tied with string is for ease of handling & I doubt scrap yard cares about string.
The real crime is that this has to be scrapped at all. Truth is, the labor to fix these is higher than the cost of the furnace and parts to fix. Otherwise, we could get these components working for another 20 years. Instead, build a new one in China.
Thank you for watching!
