Hey buddy, thanks for the mention, and great, in-depth breakdown. I think one was around $30 and the other was around $35. Mostly nothing though, just got lucky a few times.
I used to sell lots of dryer drums, for about the same money you mentioned. Have gotten gold & silver jewelry and of course lots of change and the occassional bill from them also. Most I have gotten cash wise from a single dryer was about $30 Canadian. The Loonies and toonies ($1 and $2 coins) add up quick. Many of the cabinets make for good little work stations/counters (if you put them back together,) as well. I also used to save the plastic gears from the little motors and sell them in a bulk lot on ETSY as craft and art supplies. Some of the newer dryers are worth checking up on for reselling the components, as well, especially switches and such that commonly fail in certain ones.
I’m hoping one day I’ll find some cool stuff inside like jewelry. One can dream 😂 That’s very true, there is definitely more money to be made from them than just scrap. Thank you for watching.
My neighbor and me live just north of a small city. The city has 5 areas for garbage days. Also, the area north has either private removal, or a recycle center that sells bags. We go with small trailers to get all kinds of things. People also have called since the word got around, and we have got whole bunches of scrap for various reasons such as a new homeowner cleans out the pole barn, or a new house. We also have a lot of farmers East of us and sometimes they don't want to deal with something, so they call us. We get tons and know the scrap center well.
When I was scrapping most of the dryers I picked up I repaired if they needed it as long as they weren't filthy from sitting in the weather and I also got quite a bit of change out of them mostly from quarters. I sold them on average for $130 each. There were also qite a few that worked that I just cleaned up, checked for change and cleaned all the lint out, then sold them as well. I would also charge a delivery fee and install them if requested and take away washers or dryers they were getting rid of. Dryers are very easy to fix most of the time and parts are usually less expensive over the internet, I also used parts off the ones I was scrapping out as some are interchangeable. I saved dryer cords and used them for some of the dryers I repaired and sold as some were picked up w/o them.

my best change find in a dryer was $12 something. I always assume my dryers, garbage disposals and garage door openers are going to be aluminum and not copper. my main yard i use pays the same price for cast aluminum, aluminum wire, sheet aluminum, all aluminum radiators, etc, doesn't matter, the same price and it all gets thrown in the same bin at the yard. i still separate by category but since i have come back to scrapping it is all dumped together now there.
I still haven’t found one penny in a dryer 😂 That’s my experience with those things as well, aluminum. That makes it easy to sort. My yard is the same way, although they do appreciate it being separated. Thank you for watching.
That was a real education my friend, definitely different than scraping gold and silver. Very cool about finding change in some of these tear downs. Educate me about what shred means. Is it just tin or iron and the scrap yard buys it at a very low price to shred up.
Thank you my friend. Shred is the lowest value of scrap metal and its metal that has plastic or other non metals with it. They put this sort of stuff through a giant machine that shreds it and that’ll help separate the metal from the trash. Thank you for watching my friend.
Still very beautiful place you live at!! Dryers are quick and easy some times find some dryer change lol and my motors are always aluminum it sucks! Went into the full break down of a dryer buddy I get the wire and the motors and rest goes to shred amazing tear down my friend!
Washers, dryers and Microwaves are usually all easy repairing them & reselling for 5X the disassembled value. Dryer was probably blown thermal fuse. The lint stopped air flow and the thermal fuse popped, $3 bucks in parts. If the timer is bad then sell other parts on evilebay for 20 bucks and the rest for scrap.
I scrap because it’s a lot of fun for me and I’d rather get the enjoyment from scrapping than trying to make a little more money. Thank you for watching.
I kinda do the same thing with the towel trick except I put mine in a vise. And after it's crushed, it drops out into a bucket underneath the vice I was in construction, and when we did bathroom remodels. Some of the tub were cast. Iron with porcelain, we used to put drop clothes inside the tub and beat them with a sledgehammer.🤠
@scrapitall200 The first time I ever took out a cast iron tub, I just hit it directly with a sledgehammer with everything I had and I got shredded by porcelain. I was picking it out of my body for 2 days How I didn't get it in my eyes. I do not know👍🤠
I found a dryer one time, got a diamond ring, and 4 dollars in change,it was in front of a welfare house, you know people that get money for free do not have a value on a dollar, but if you work for the money you get you have a desire to get more the honest way
Time - time - time - how long did it take to make the extra $4? I know your a hobby scrapper but for us common folks - that would help assess whether it was worth it. Happy Scrappin!
Great job sir this is what I do to all my appliances but you missed some SS in the sensor this has been a wonderful example of micro scraping six stars brother
I just into scraping but mostly brass I work at with a Carwash company so I change a whole bunch of brass fittings and regulators and the best part brass pumps company wants us to toss them but I just carry them in a bucket and sell them when they get full use the money to take my family out to eat 😄
Nice one buddy. Shame your hard work wasn't rewarded with a copper motor but we know how it goes. The scrap gods will find you a big copper transformer next time 😅
We're going to find out here real soon how much silver in those contacts. Ive been collecting up all the switches, potentiometers, relays and things from appliances to do just that. I can say from experience that auto relay contacts run %61-70 silver. It seems from videos ive seen from other youtubers, these contacts tend to be mostly copper with a thin silver layer on the face. Im willing to "waste" some nitric acid to find out. The plan is to collect 31.1 grams (1 troy ounce) and find a percentage. I might just do a smaller 10 gram run to make the math easier. I think a copper cell is also coming. That is probably the most economical way to recover the silver from these if they turn out to be plated
As you said, everyone has to determine for themselves if it is worth it to scrap things out. Just curious how long it took you to do it for the extra $4? Sometimes I do tear things fully apart and sometimes I have so many other things to do which would bring in more money, so I just take the 'low hanging fruit' (as I call it) and put it in the shred pile. Love your videos. Blessings brother
I didn’t pay attention to the clock. I can say I had about an hours worth of recording footage, of course there’s a lot of messing around making videos. I bet it could be done in 30 minutes or a little less. Definitely not a good hourly rate. Thank you for watching brother and God bless.

I found over $70 in a dryer that my neighbor was throwing out just recently. $50 of it was quarters alone. And ppl wonder why their stuff breaks down. Lol
@scrapitall200 it definitely was, I got 5 total machines from them that day, 3 dryers and 2 washers. I scrapped 1 washer and dryer, and I'm fixing 1 for my mom and dad. Idk what I'm going to do with the other ones yet, but I'm pretty sure it's fixable also. That 1 dryer left a trail of coins from their house to mine. Lol Definitely a great score that day.
You gave value at prices when you made the video. The only weight you gave was the starting weight of the dryer and of silver contacts. Component weights are more useful than contemporaneous prices. Just saying. I liked the video. Thanks for that.
@@scrapitall200 You gave dollar amounts for copper, steel, Al, etc. You didn't say how many pounds of steel or ounces of copper, etc, except to give the total weight of the dryer. Usually you give component weights.

That’s a lot of work $12. As a plumber I do have to break down my scrap, however, the weight is where the money is, and you just don’t have that in an appliance. Anyways, (sorry to be a critic), very good video I watched it all.
I break them down to fit more on a trailer load. I can fit six washers or dryers unbroken on my trailer. Break them down and it quadruples. Plus all the wire and motor extra scrap. It really doesn't take but a few minutes. I just unscrew the walls off and take the motor off. Cut the wires and load everything on the trailer. Motor goes in one spot in my shop. Wire goes in a barrel and it's off to next one

Love your videos, Watching this did give me another idea. I have a newish Carry on trailer that has the mesh bottom. So I always carry a Trashcan in my trailer for small stuff that could fall through the mesh. I could actually start using those drums from Dryers for that. Then I dont need to be concerned about retrieving the can when I get to the yard.
Thank you!
That’s a great idea!!

hello again buddy! great video, thank you
Thank you buddy, I appreciate it.
my best change find in a dryer was $12 something.
I still haven’t found one penny in a dryer 😂
That’s my experience with those things as well, aluminum.
@@scrapitall200 Thank you for explaining that.
@@GDSavingThePast you’re welcome

I bet you’re 100% correct lol
Washers, dryers and Microwaves are usually all easy repairing them & reselling for 5X the disassembled value. Dryer was probably blown thermal fuse. The lint stopped air flow and the thermal fuse popped, $3 bucks in parts. If the timer is bad then sell other parts on evilebay for 20 bucks and the rest for scrap.
I scrap because it’s a lot of fun for me and I’d rather get the enjoyment from scrapping than trying to make a little more money.

I kinda do the same thing with the towel trick except I put mine in a vise.
And after it's crushed, it drops out into a bucket underneath the vice

It’s ok, I wasn’t expecting copper and I’m just thankful this is all fun to me, of course it’s more fun when it’s copper 🤣
Great video. Yeah there's not enough aluminum on that armature to justify the difference in steel.
Thank you!
I agree and I know my yard in particular is very picky with dirty aluminum.
Thank you for watching.
Ok cool, that will be a great experiment.
I look forward to sharing that with us all.

So sorry to hear that 😢
As you said, everyone has to determine for themselves if it is worth it to scrap things out.
Thank you for watching brother and God bless.
besides melting it off, is there a good way to separate the aluminum from the shaft from that motor? I have a stack of em that would like to know :)
Melting is the only way unfortunately that I’ve seen.

Lol

You gave value at prices when you made the video. The only weight you gave was the starting weight of the dryer and of silver contacts. Component weights are more useful than contemporaneous prices. Just saying. I liked the video. Thanks for that.

That’s a lot of work $12. As a plumber I do have to break down my scrap, however, the weight is where the money is, and you just don’t have that in an appliance. Anyways, (sorry to be a critic), very good video I watched it all.
@@honselld1 I really enjoy scrapping, so I don’t mind if things take time to scrap.
No worries at all and I really appreciate that, thank you!
