- GaMetal returns to Final Fantasy IV for a remake of the Boss Battle theme! (Or.. Culex Battle from Super Mario RPG... take your pick.)
I'm not gonna lie to you: the first time I heard this song was from Super Mario RPG. I'm sorry.
I've been a big fan of it ever since. I first remixed this song back in 2010, and personally it was one of the few 2010 GaMetal songs I found acceptable. The guitar work in it was crap though, so I (hopefully) fixed that this time around. I also extended it a bit with a new bridge section and another, faster-paced run through.
I'm pretty happy with the result! Maybe next for FF2, I should do Zeromus...

If you stick around long enough, at 2:51 you can see Mario RPG for a brief moment, which reuses this song. I love that detail!

@Landrew Sodoski: Culex is not really a part of FF. He was just made in the spirit of FF at the time. It's only a contextual reference, not a real one. I don't count it.

I found your channel a few days ago, and am AMAZED. I rarely ever - EVER - listen to metal, but all of your arrangements are fantastic! I can't tell you how many mediocre metal/electric guitar remixes of game music I've listened to, but you indescribably & consistently imbue your music with kickass energy, while still remaining true to the original "feel" of the tracks. Your notes and timing are crisp and clean. You clearly have a wonderful talent in both arranging and playing music like this. I also rarely ever comment, but I'm honestly so impressed that I needed to compliment your work. You have my subscription, that's for sure!

Fully agree, Weston. There's a lot of stuff out there, and guys are doing their best, but this is really something. Another guy in this league (although not at all metal) is PoopPoopFart. Guys who take their game covers seriously get so much respect. It's rarely done with care to the original tone/mood/context.

1:04 Is where this transitions from a merely great remix to one of the best damn remixes I've ever heard. To introduce that much variance while still remaining true to the original melody is a feat that almost no one I've ever heard has ever pulled off. Alongside CarbohydroMusic and RichaadEB, you truly deserve, imo, to be called one of the best game music remixers in the history of the internet.

Many people don't appreciate that besides the amazing talent, there is a kick ass editing job required. All is great.
Just so you know man. I have a DND campaign which has been going on for 3-4 years, and I have been keeping this song for one of the biggest bosses/baddies of the campaign for when the party encounters him.
Such great music, thanks for it. I hope my dming for my players will be half as good for that scene as the soundtrack will be :P

Final Fantasy IV is obviously one of the best final fantasies, Its great seeing you actually making a GaMetal for that too, You should do Zeromus.

Also.... Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you, I heard this first as Culex's theme.... I feel like there, it's more impactful since Culex was the hardest boss in SMRPG (or one of them... when I was younger, I found Smithy harder). Plus in that game, only Culex had the theme. In FFIV, all the normal bosses had that theme.
Anyhoo, obligatory song idea.... I've been listening to Chai Kingdom from Mario Land a lot recently.... And thought it might sound really good in your style.

This is one of my favorite game tracks and you crushed it. I've always wished that I could play a JRPG that had all its music in this sort of brutal metal remixed style instead of the "normal" way it's usually done in.

I was confused as to why you hadn’t done a Culex cover yet. Then I found out what the song really was when watching ProJared. I knew that Culex was based of of FF bosses, but I don’t know how I didn’t put that together.

How the hell did you get that good and master each instrument? You play with real passion and bring out the emotion of the notes and song itself. It is quite a travesty that you aren't world renown because you are a unique individual,. I can't think of anyone that mastered three instruments, could have been professional and famous on each instrument and decides to play video game music for youtube watchers. I am in awe of your talent. I hope one day you become super famous at what you do because you deserve that recognition.
Btw, The way you played this battle theme was jaw dropping and gave homage to the composer of the music himself, Uematsu. THere are world class musicians who only dreams to be half as good as you are. And yet you play this video game song like a Mozart concerto. total professionalism, amazing.

Friggin awesome cover! The only other FFIV boss theme cover I loved was by Powerglove in their medley. Since you played the Phantom Train in acoustic, I'm curious to hear how that cover will sound.
