At the time I thought this sounded great... Then a new patch came out on FFXIV and they made another version of this song that sounds a hundred times better. :
Remember that the original version was so good it was used as the boss theme for the superboss of another RPG that Square made. And now, it may happen again.
The strings in this version are PERFECTION. There were times when I let battles go on a little longer than intended because of just how awesome this is.
@Loi Valdes all the versions mentioned are different arrangements. The SNES IV and Super Mario RPG versions definitely had different sound fonts being used.
This version of the boss theme sounds like a higher-end 1980s TV anime soundtrack meets muted buttrock going on in the background. Overall, 10 out of 10
Think you'll find that the drum part is played by Yoyoka Soma. Check out her own channel YOYOKA. She played on 18 of the music tracks for the remastered series. She's just had her 13th birthday and already a professional drummer. Hard rock, funk and everything in between. HAs been gigging since she was 4.
25 años han pasado desde el día en que lo conocí, y muchas cosas han cambiado, lo único que sigue igual es mi amor por este inmenso juego, mi FF favorito.
FF4 was my first RPG ever as a youngin so this game holds a very special place in a very long list of RPG's. The Pixel Remaster soundtrack is fine all things considered, I like the orchestrated sound of it, but I think I will stick with the DS/Steam version or even the OG. More content for sure, but the music just strikes me as being a bit better.
My God dude I've been listening to all of your ff4 remaster and I have to say you got them spot on. You don't deviate from original source material and make it sound like the creator intended.
Looking at these comments, I have to wonder... am I the only one disappointed in this remastered soundtrack? I feel like they really nailed it with FF6 Pixel Remaster, but FF4 is one of my favorite soundtracks in the entire series, and it just seems to me like a lot of the "oomph" from the original SNES synth is missing in these remixed tracks. For one, the bass is no longer as prominent, but it's more than that -- it's the overall "flavor" of the music. The original synth was harsh, which made it sound a lot more... menacing. Whereas here, with the strings and the overall brighter tone to the entire orchestration, it sounds a lot more... triumphant. Which would be good, if it weren't a boss theme! Boss themes are played while the struggle is ongoing -- triumph is not guaranteed. They should be tense, and INtense. And this, I feel, rather misses that mark. The same is true for every other track I've heard from FF4 Pixel Remaster. I really think they dropped the ball with its OST in general, as not a single track measures up to the original SNES synth at all in terms of mood or impact. They're great arrangements in their own right, but only when divorced from the context of the game.
I hate this version. It's not beautiful or IMPACTFUL like they did with the SNES version. It's just showing off and annoying I think. But I have to give it to the team for the remastered version of "Inside the Giant". THAT was BRILLIANT.

@@whitesonicex but still this versioj really suited for this game. Not too fancy or improved too much
@@Yoedi16 Yeah the FFXIV version to this would be a bit much lol this version still does go pretty hard though haha
I think I actually like it better than the XIV version.
Can't wait to hear this in the Mario RPG remake
Came here to post this! Wonder if they’ll use this remix or a brand new one?
@@dellapjnew one but MK8'd Jazz'd
Let’s wait and see.
It’d be dope AF if they put Kefka or Sephiroth instead of Culex, but hey, FF boss in a Mario game.
I bet they would remove culex
@@PsychoMadHatter2 don’t! If so, replace him with Kefka or Sephiroth.

This theme slaps HARD. Thank you for uploading it on its own and not in a complete OST video
That rock organ is like a sneak attack. I didn't expect it at all. They probably should alternate flourishes between loops, however.
"That's it! It's almost finished! But beware ... a wounded monster is even more dangerous!"
DANG these violins go HARD. and it's so good. I love me some good strings.
Out of all the Pixel Remaster boss themes, this one utterly NAILS IT.
Now lets see if they use this version for Culex in Super Mario RPG remake.
The strings in this version are PERFECTION. There were times when I let battles go on a little longer than intended because of just how awesome this is.
The third version I listened to tonight. First was Super Mario RPG, second was FFIV SNES.
Should look up the FFXIV version (beware of spoilers tho)
FF4 Boss Theme DS version
@Loi Valdes all the versions mentioned are different arrangements. The SNES IV and Super Mario RPG versions definitely had different sound fonts being used.
Based on today's Nintendo Direct, we might be getting yet another arrangement here soon.

Super Mario RPG Remake secret boss theme. I’m calling it!
Hey if they want to cut a little corner and reuse this for culex, i ain't even mad
Best Regular Boss theme in the series

Love it! All of the Remaster Pixel themes are great :)
This and Decisive Battle are nostalgic soundtracks for me ❤❤
All the pixel remasters are so awesome ❤
Holy crap! This version is so good!!
I wonder if they'll use this one for Culex's battle theme in the remake
Either this or the FFXIV rendition. Both amazing enough to fit
I'm kinda hoping they'll do a unique remix. They seem to have a live band for the Remakes soundtrack. Why not get them to do it?
@@marche800 That does make sense. If they do reuse either of the listed tracks, I'm sure nobody would mind, though I do see what you're getting at.
they made a unique remix, which is now the 2nd best rendition of this theme
Between what the SMRPG remake brought and what FFXIV brought, both of them are great remixes
Top three best versions of this boss theme:
1. THIS VERSION OMG
2. Culex from Super Mario RPG
3. The original from Final Fantasy IV SNES
Don’t forget
-Final Fantasy XIV
-Jonny Atma/GaMetal
-Kirby’s Dream Band (especially live!)
Now that we have it I think Culex's remake version is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> all other versions. Yoko Shimomura went HARD
Literal chills. This and the mega man x opening stage theme tied for best video game track ever made

This theme has no right to slap this hard 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh hey, it's that song from Super Mario RPG! Nice to hear it again! :P
I like a lot that version, they've added more epicness
Everytime this played, I’d get so hyped ❤❤❤

i thought the remasters were just upscaled pixels and couldn't beat the psp version. It still hasn't beaten the psp version but this music is fire.
4 was my fav on the ds. Need to get it for the spundtrack alone 👌
Sounds like they got Taylor Davis to do this one
They should use this in the remake of smrpg

@@Stachebro12 nope I wasn't aware thanks for the update

I think This is theme of the boss in the all game.
How annoying the comments that say "The original is better" already seem like NPCs and also make pathetic arguments to justify their hatred
If you don't like classical music, of course you're gonna criticize this. Typical. If you're a lover of classical music, then groovy.

You Spoony Bard!
Too bad it lacks the punch of the original bass line. The bass made the song for me.
I wish someone would do a romhack of the psp version so it had all the pixel remaster music

PEE PEE NOSE
What have they done with the soundtrack 😢
The best thing
The cringe 'roadhouse' style tremolo organ is so out of place it just kills me. I hate it.
Has no bass, it sucks compared to the OG
Listen with some good headphones I’m hearing plenty of the bass
They got rid of the screen shatter = boss fight starts :/
And the pixel remaster bgm is objectively worse than PSP version
Ugh...
It had to be in pixel Square to define the "Pixel" remaster for a reason.
I hate this version. This song was the biggest letdown of the pixel remasters for me.
Squarenix at its finest.
Original is infinitely better... 😑
eehhhh still not impressed.
never really liked the original either, tbf.
So terrible compared to the original... 😭
This would be perfect if the bass was more pronounced.
