    Changing the front sprocket makes a big difference I put the 17 tooth on mine

    • @MyMotorcycleBlog

      Yes it does. I found I needed to shift up almost immediately from 1st andI was easily red lining in 4th gear, while going at a slow speed with the stock gear. Acceleration came at a cost, but each gear feels like it has a more usable range, and top end was increased. Have fun!!!!

    Good video haven’t done the bolt upgrades yet for the motor mounts, did get the pro taper SE bars as an upgrade I’m tall so I like the bars are they fit and feel did get the seat bag. The racks heavy so you could remove it if you want to have weight removed, upgraded the exhaust 17 to sprocket. Also get rid of that shifter with the flimsy linkage Amazon has a $15 shifter that bolts directly on and it makes for very precision shifts. Also neutrals easier to find.

    • @MyMotorcycleBlog
      @MyMotorcycleBlog  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for comments!
      The sprocket upgrade really helped get higher MPH out of same RPMs, but I did lose some torque and acceleration. So getting to redline in 4th is a challenge, but it's fun when I get there. :D
      I still have the stock shifter, it has been working for me, but I too have heard about how much upgrading the shifter feels afterwards. It's on my to do list, but for now, those linkages work with a little TLC.

      @MyMotorcycleBlog  Рік тому +1

      BTW, I too didn't do the engine mounting bolt upgrades till I broke one. The initial replacement was just to replace the broken bolt and remaining bolt with what I thought were better quality. After doing it, I thought it was easy enough to just increase the size of the bolts for a future Big Bore Kit upgrade for the bike.

    Great video very informative I'm thinking about getting one of these I have the KP mini lifan and it's a blast but I noticed that when you're on it it feels like you're sitting in it not on it and it seems small so I'm really thinking about trying one of these on for size.

      I was looking at one of those 150cc clones and thought they were perfect. Too perfect; I wanted a little bike I could tinker with, and the Boom Vader gave me a bike I could ride stock and then have fun doing upgrades.

    I think by the time you change all of these parts I would just buy a Lifan KP Mini 150. I have owned a Lifan LF 200 GY 5 200cc dual sport that I purchased new in 2006. It has been like a Honda never one problem in all of these years.

    • @MyMotorcycleBlog
      @MyMotorcycleBlog  Рік тому

      The 125cc Grom clones are tinkering bikes, if you don't like tinkering you are right. To get the initial Boom Vader reliable( mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-reliability-upgrades/ ) it only takes a couple steps and a few upgrades, all fairly cheap. Now when you start upgrading for power the larger Lifan KP, might be a better choice, but why stop there, there are 190 and 212cc engines waiting to be installed. :p

    from a hobbiest perspective, it is perfect. you can not just easily bolt in a 20 hp engine into a grom, and if you actually can , the kit is very expensive, or, you have to fabricate things. these bikes are not perfect, but i wouldnt buy one expecting it to be. what you really get is a frame and a vin number. you can throw almost everything else away, build a 20 hp killer little street mini, and still spend less than you would for a new grom with a bbk and some bullish, and it wont make 16 hp after you spend all that. these bikes absolutely have a place , in my opinion its perfect.

    • @MyMotorcycleBlog

      Big attraction to these bikes, they are like blank canvases. If people want bigger bikes, they buy them. If they want to tinker, they buy these little Chinese Grom-Clones and go to town. I was at a group ride a couple summers ago, all small bikes, and some people go crazy with their modes. Both performance and cosmetic. Fun bikes.

    I got the Vader 150. Got more torque , but the same HP values. Does up to about 55 stock (runs lean), and 60 if you put a washer under the needle. Swapped out exhaust and intake as well, as the intake tube from the airbox to the carburetor, was restrictive.
    Cant recommend upgrading the exhaust, as there is no perfect fitment, and the front gaskets leak.

    • @MyMotorcycleBlog
      @MyMotorcycleBlog  3 місяці тому

      I've heard some people complain that after market exhaust gaskets aren't thick enough, so they double them up. I've not run into this, so just what I've heard.

    Hi. How many miles are on it now? Any major issues so far? Which site did you order this from

    • @MyMotorcycleBlog
      @MyMotorcycleBlog  Рік тому

      With cold weather kicking in, school starting back up, and a new job, it said to say barely over 2k so far.
      As for significant issues, all known Grom Clone issues:
      Major ones that they occurred to me were the broken engine mount while I was out riding( mymotorcycleblog.com/broke-motorcycle-motor-mount-bolt-boom-vader/ a common occurrence, it seems ) and a gas tank leak due to a broken weld( mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-gas-tank-is-leaking-from-bottom-again/ Sadly another common occurrence. )
      Minor Issues were: when I upgraded the carb ( mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-carb-upgrade-125cc-grom-clone/ ), I noticed the fuel bowl screws were working themselves loose, so there was a tiny gas leak.
      An issue others warn me about, a broken stock chain, didn't occur since I upgraded the chain fairly early ( mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-motorcycle-chain-replacement-instructions/ )
      This list sounds long, but these 'fixes' were fun, minus the gas tank, and cheap, again minus the gas tank(the welder charged me about $50).
      The carb upgrade I did was cheap, the chain upgrade was affordable, and the o-ring less type for more speed (Or I think so); just replacing the stock bolts with same-sized new ones from the hardware store was cheap too. FYI, I did enlarge the engine mount bolts, but again cheap.
      All fun projects/upgrades.
      When I got it, I went to Kronic Racing; Pete was very helpful in answering the questions. Even when he couldn't help with some issues, he gave advice.
      Sorry long answer, tried to answer enough for you to understand what I've experienced. Nice little bike, it's a blast to ride.

      Only my second motorcycle, but it's been fun so far. In the warm weather, I spent more time riding it than upgrading it, so I might have to switch more into the tinkering phase over the winter.
