I Fired Up My 1978 Suzuki GS750 After Long Silence!
Follow-up video about my 1978 Suzuki GS750 I bought this year. It came to me a little rusty and neglected, but I saw great potential in this bike, especially at such a low price.
I had some problems, but the end was worth it. Wish it was a 100% happy ending, but still a happy ending.

Boom Vader Front Sprocket Upgrade (17 Tooth Grom Clone Upgrade). Wow Faster!

I'm documenting how I upgraded my Grom Clone Motorcycle, A Boom Vader 125cc bike, with a larger front sprocket. From the stock front sprocket to a larger 17-tooth front sprocket. This 17-tooth sprocket upgrade gave 1st gear more range, so I don't have to up-shift so fast into 2nd gear, and increased the Boom Vader's top speed for the same max engine RPMs. I love getting messy working on my moto...

Nice survivor ..very clean and well kept Epic Thumbs Up on the progress so far 😇❤
Thank you, been trying to clean up the rust on her, and address the tiny oil leaks here an there. She has been a well used bike, very reliable(with maintenance) it seems after all these years.
I enjoy doing full tuck down hill runs on my vader. Ive been as fast as 74 mph gps. My speedo read 94 mph. That was beyond 10 thousand rpm with a 18 tooth sprocket.
18t! With my weight, I would go 0-60 in two days. :p
It took real work to get the bike later running on all four cylinders, but Sea Foam in the Gas really helped. Video: ua-cam.com/video/cU6k51-Sng8/v-deo.html
I love mine so far after 6 monts and 4k miles its been a process but overall reliable now. I cruise at 45 mph all day no need to go faster in these LA streets. Ride safe!
I did all the same mods as you plus I added a oil cooler to it. Solid engine so far but like every Chinese thing I've owned it's gonna break 😅. Have a 212 daytona waiting in a box for that day to come.
Admit, just enjoying cruising around the city and back roads doesn't require a speed demon. Just have fun, right?
@@VaderVlogs125 Might be moving towards an oil cooler myself, for peace of mind.
@CageFreeTom yep I added it for a piece of mind. I did 55 for about 40 min straight, and my engine barley got past 178F . My top speed is also 61 but I hardly push it to that. Overall a great buy and I spent 1800$ in total with mods and registration fees. A steal imo for a brand new street bike.
@@VaderVlogs125 Just fun little bikes, and get you out of the house. :D
I actually just bought this one using your link and installed it, but I don't know if I did it correctly. I can't go to the 3rd and 4th. Any recommendation
When I was playing around with it, engine off, I got low and shifted up and down by hand checking for interference around the gear shaft. If the clutch wasn't adjusted and worked with stock shifter, toss the stock back on and see if normal operation returns, is what I would do.
ballsy to take it on RT378. I live in the valley and I also have a grom Clone
Ha ha ha, I understand truly. I was full throttle and cars were just passing me. Also, I've ridden the Boom Vader on Rt 78, but on a holiday since I could barely hold 60's in full tuck.
Also best to locktite all the bolsts and screws on these bikes the chinese stuff doesnt hold long without it
Agreed. Thread locker is our friend. :p Thank you for stopping by, appreciated!!!!

hey man , i just replaced my battery, and starter solenoid and itll crank but wont start , any idea?
I would do the basic checks(fuel/air/spark), do you have fuel in the carb bowl, is spark plug boot connected(this messed me up in past), if so, pull plug and check for spark and compression.
@ i checked the carb bowl, i had loosened the screw and fuel came out then tightened it back up, spark plug i haven’t check prb will just replace that , and prb get a newer battery
@ how do i check if spark plug boot is connected?
@@dylanvuong8301 What I did, was pull off the boot, from the plug and reinstalled till it 'clicked'. Mine was floating around and bike cut out till I got a good connection.

I only changed spark plug on my vader grom clone whenever i thought their was a problem with it but it was always something else .the stock sparkplugs. Seem to have a lifetime usage
Thank you. Figure I would run the type of plug I use in my cars, and everyone one of them have over 100k in miles and another is over 200k. So cheap investment to get the best and not have to do it again. How long had the Boom Vader?
@CageFreeTom i actually collet these and have about 5 of them and one Honda Grom 2019 I got fascinated by how easy and inexpensive is to work on these .a clone is basically a 6500 from clone as long as u know how to maintain it .this the bike that got me into fixing motorcycles and have like three of them fully upgraded I love how they. For anywhere and waste no gas u can split lanes everywhere and save all the time rin the world I've also sold these I buy them for 300 bucks of people that don't know what's wrong with them usually dirty carb or dead battery and I resell it for 1300 I've sold 7 bikes in the last two years .people buy these from clone alike hot cakes and they are reliable if u know whow to work on them!!! I got about 5000 miles on two do them .but the cheap Chinese screws and plastics somethings break off so I gotta make aure to always check ur clone after a ride or before
Also another tip is to ziptie some of the fairings where the screws are that way they don't break cause the cheap bolts that come with them don't come with washers and break thru the cheap plastic .zip ties will just hold it and not shatter .zip ties tend to fix a lot of stuff on this bike lol also get locktite brother
Got my first vader at the end of 2018 wow time flies!! I actually have. A ur channel with none of my videos showing off the bikes I had at the time if u wanna see
@@PlayMaker-iq8mb Agreed, the side panels on my Boom Vader do vibrate, experimenting with solutions that work and come off to do maintenance/upgrades. Thx!
Good video, question. Would you buy another option? Besides the tbr7. A second bike.
I would buy the TBR7 again, if it I was in the same situation, only having one bike. The TBR7 is a nice balance between a road bike and off-road bike, jack of all trades(minus high highway speeds). So have to figure how the bike fits your needs.

Nice tips ty
Love feedback, thanks for your compliment!
You did a good job mansplaining everything, thanks for that. How does it compare to the vader on the funOmeter scale ?
Two different bikes, but both fun. As for the Vader, love the feeling of riding a slow bike fast. Engine screaming at 9k and no speeding tickets on back roads. :D
where i can order this bike?
I got mine from Kronik Racing( www.kronikracing.com/ ), but there are other place I've been told you can get it from( mymotorcycleblog.com/where-to-buy-boom-vader-motorcycle/ ).
eBay exhaust??
I got mine off Amazon, but then they were sold out, so some people say they found the same off ebay. Can't firm this... :(

@@scaggitI can relate, be safe out there!
I just mine two days ago. It’s doing the same thing but chain is extremely tight should I adjust it
Tight chains can cause problems, broken chains, broken engine mounts, etc, yes should adjust the chain. Thx for sharing.
I was having trouble with my gz250 getting and staying running until i ran some sea foam through it, starts up right away and gets going much quicker. However I've noticed if i don't ride it for a week its a bit of a pain to start again. Gonna run another tank or two through and if that doesn't fix it then time for a carb swap. It's great if you just wanna get the bike running asap but obviously needs a proper carb cleaning. Useful in certain situations but idk if its really "miracle" stuff. Maybe if i run more I'll change my mind. We'll see
Good info here, I'm at point I'm riding frequently. When winter comes around I will take steps to winterize the bike, but as the weather cools my riding frequency will decline. So I will keep an look out for this behavior. The bike came to me with some real gummed up carbs and don't want a repeat of that. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your mods. One thing I wanted to share after just procuring a '23 Hawk DLX is that the correct term for these is actually "Enduro sport", not "duel sport" like I originally thought -or that they mean the same thing. Duel sport denotes motocross capable bikes that have been made street legal with lights and mirrors and such. Enduro sport properly defines these bikes that you and I have as being much more tamer versions not meant for Evil Knievel stunts and jumps of a duel sport. My take away from all that is that you do not want to exceed the limitations of these bikes -keeping all of that in mind. I always go with "bumps -not jumps", anything beyond that is at your own risk.
"at your own risk" ha ha ha. :D
So in wondering on gas…I realize it’s a one gallon tank but how many miles will it actually go on that?
Total cost so far with repairs please! What's your down time been?
New shifter cost me less than $20 at the time of purchase. It was cheap and so far this motorcycle upgrade seem well worth it. Gear position feedback, going into gear and finding neutral, has increased.
The distance between footpeg and shifter footpad is some 2 inch bigger. Any issues with that?
It is a good question, here are my findings. Up-shifting feel my toe needs to be moved forward, about an inch, and down shifting, I toe-in more and catch the arm as well as the peg and no problem.
BTW, I tried so others don't have to. It's no comfortable riding in sandels with the new shifter. It was wrong and a good life lesson. Ride safe. :D
What bike is that?
Boom Vader (BD125-10) a 125cc motorcycle.
that 750 is gold dust! A very beautiful bike with a great potential that I know very well because I have one of 1979. Basically the same bike but with solid wheels, I would change in your Suzuki the handle and get out the seat back. Cleaning, oil, filters, oil and enjoy!!!! Congratulations from Argentina...!
Stupid Worthless Video about 'critters'. This guy sounds like an accountant that can't find his ledger
3rd mount and/or stronger rated bolts for original two bolts.
Have stronger bolts(3/8" grade 8), the bolt hole(engine side) must have 'widened' allowing for engine movement. YES! Finally caught the clue, I'm told Grom's have three engine mounts for a reason, so Grom-Clones should have a third. So, YES!
FYI, third mount arrived, will be installed soon. :D
I got the Vader 150. Got more torque , but the same HP values. Does up to about 55 stock (runs lean), and 60 if you put a washer under the needle. Swapped out exhaust and intake as well, as the intake tube from the airbox to the carburetor, was restrictive. Cant recommend upgrading the exhaust, as there is no perfect fitment, and the front gaskets leak.
I've heard some people complain that after market exhaust gaskets aren't thick enough, so they double them up. I've not run into this, so just what I've heard.
Where’s the link to Amazon?
The items I used for my Boom Vader exhaust upgrade I have listed on this blog post: mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-aftermarket-exhaust-mod-instructions/ Have fun!
Grom didn't go 5 speed in 2020 , 5 speed came in on the 2022 😊
Thank you!
Hey did this exhaust give you clearance on that pesky oil drain plug that the stock pipe blocks off?
Excellent question! I covered what a pain the Boom Vader oil change was, mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-125-oil-change-stock/, with the stock exhaust. With this new exhaust piping, the oil drain plug is more accessible. So I'm happy.
what is the seat height and can it be lowered?
I believe from experience and sources, "about 30 inches". Say about, since you are corrected, there is a compression ring(like pre-load) for the rear shock that I believe can be loosed to reduce the overall height when sat on.
I just ordered mine literally 5 mins ago. Excited AF!! Ok, anything to expect on the boxing out? How long does the registration take to arrive? Is dmv a hassle since this bike is originated from China? Thanks in advance!!
Love it! Congrats on pulling the trigger and ordering one up. These Grom-Clones can be a tinkerer's paradise. Keep us informed about the results. Post what state you are in, and hopefully someone can respond with any registration issues. Congrats!
from which website you ordered?
No no it's right your doing it right but your pressing the buttons first then key so it's not the same time.. one hand on key spread your fingers for buttons at the same time you press, turn the key..should work
Thank you, I saw others doing it, via UA-cam, and didn't work for me. I might tinker with the speedometer more in the future, but for now I have the GPS and not really afraid of being accused of speeding with this bike. :D
the advice online that you tired only work on the gen 1. You have a gen 2 this trick doesn't work. To re-cerebrate this version is a bit more complicated. Maybe I'll do a video to explain how to do it. The Chinese set the speedo higher on purpose to trick the American market that this bike can go faster than it can. This is because this bike have a small engine and the driving speed in the US is higher than anywhere else in the world. In most country like in Asia and Africa (Where these bikes are popular) the highest speed you'll ever go is 50 mph.
Let me know if you are still interested in fixing your speedometer. I know it's been awhile.
@@caposolomon8745how do you fix it
@@zapo4867 you need to buy a small programming stick that's about 80$ and have to wire it on to the speedometer. I'll drop a link when I have time
I've seen this solution, inline sensor programer. As an upgrade, it's at the bottom of my list, but thank you for the suggestion.
What is the black container behind the front light for? The container of my Boom Vader is liquing.
On the frame I had a stock airbox. Are you talking about the airbox?
@@CageFreeTom I don't know 😀 It looks like an empty plastic box. It is dripping water.
@@bulls45100 Interesting, is your air filter in there, and yes, it can drip 'something' since anything vented I feel is routed back to to the airbox. I believe the crankcase vent with a stock setup is routed back to the airbox since I had to move the vent line after going to a foam filter. So is the black box where the air filter at?
from a hobbiest perspective, it is perfect. you can not just easily bolt in a 20 hp engine into a grom, and if you actually can , the kit is very expensive, or, you have to fabricate things. these bikes are not perfect, but i wouldnt buy one expecting it to be. what you really get is a frame and a vin number. you can throw almost everything else away, build a 20 hp killer little street mini, and still spend less than you would for a new grom with a bbk and some bullish, and it wont make 16 hp after you spend all that. these bikes absolutely have a place , in my opinion its perfect.
Big attraction to these bikes, they are like blank canvases. If people want bigger bikes, they buy them. If they want to tinker, they buy these little Chinese Grom-Clones and go to town. I was at a group ride a couple summers ago, all small bikes, and some people go crazy with their modes. Both performance and cosmetic. Fun bikes.
Are you able to tell me exactly the extra parts needed to make the needed modifications? I'm ordering one of these soon. Thank you
On: mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-grom-clone-upgrades/ I keep a list of upgrades I've done and would do again. Hope this helps. Hold on upgrading too soon, do the break in period first. Nice and easy riding. :D
@@CageFreeTom thank you brotha. Two questions 1. How long should I wait to do upgrades 2. Do you suggest I take bike to get inspected after I assembly and ride it around for a little? Once again thank you my friend
Changing the front sprocket makes a big difference I put the 17 tooth on mine
Yes it does. I found I needed to shift up almost immediately from 1st andI was easily red lining in 4th gear, while going at a slow speed with the stock gear. Acceleration came at a cost, but each gear feels like it has a more usable range, and top end was increased. Have fun!!!!
