Boom Vader Motorcycle Gear Shifter Upgrade
I was trying to keep my Boom Vader motorcycle stock gear shifter, but it finally failed to the point of using a twist wire to hold the shifter together.
So, I decided to turn this setback into an opportunity and upgraded to a new, high-performance "Grom-Clone" Gear Shifter. Join me on this journey and discover the exciting benefits of this upgrade for your own motorcycle.
BTW if you like the shifter I picked up, it comes in different colors; here it is on Amazon...

Boom Vader Exhaust Upgrade FAQ 1 - Is This An Easy Upgrade?

On my blog ( MyMotorcycleBlog.com ) I get questions from my readers. This exhaust upgrade( mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-aftermarket-exhaust-mod-instructions/ ) generates the most number of questions. Is the new exhaust upgrade a drop-in upgrade? Does the exhaust piping need bending? How did you mount the muffler? So just a quick video to hopefully cover this subject. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing your mods. One thing I wanted to share after just procuring a '23 Hawk DLX is that the correct term for these is actually "Enduro sport", not "duel sport" like I originally thought -or that they mean the same thing. Duel sport denotes motocross capable bikes that have been made street legal with lights and mirrors and such. Enduro sport properly defines these bikes that you and I have as being much more tamer versions not meant for Evil Knievel stunts and jumps of a duel sport. My take away from all that is that you do not want to exceed the limitations of these bikes -keeping all of that in mind. I always go with "bumps -not jumps", anything beyond that is at your own risk.

Have stronger bolts(3/8" grade 8), the bolt hole(engine side) must have 'widened' allowing for engine movement. YES! Finally caught the clue, I'm told Grom's have three engine mounts for a reason, so Grom-Clones should have a third. So, YES!

I got the Vader 150. Got more torque , but the same HP values. Does up to about 55 stock (runs lean), and 60 if you put a washer under the needle. Swapped out exhaust and intake as well, as the intake tube from the airbox to the carburetor, was restrictive. Cant recommend upgrading the exhaust, as there is no perfect fitment, and the front gaskets leak.

the advice online that you tired only work on the gen 1. You have a gen 2 this trick doesn't work. To re-cerebrate this version is a bit more complicated. Maybe I'll do a video to explain how to do it. The Chinese set the speedo higher on purpose to trick the American market that this bike can go faster than it can. This is because this bike have a small engine and the driving speed in the US is higher than anywhere else in the world. In most country like in Asia and Africa (Where these bikes are popular) the highest speed you'll ever go is 50 mph.

from a hobbiest perspective, it is perfect. you can not just easily bolt in a 20 hp engine into a grom, and if you actually can , the kit is very expensive, or, you have to fabricate things. these bikes are not perfect, but i wouldnt buy one expecting it to be. what you really get is a frame and a vin number. you can throw almost everything else away, build a 20 hp killer little street mini, and still spend less than you would for a new grom with a bbk and some bullish, and it wont make 16 hp after you spend all that. these bikes absolutely have a place , in my opinion its perfect.

Big attraction to these bikes, they are like blank canvases. If people want bigger bikes, they buy them. If they want to tinker, they buy these little Chinese Grom-Clones and go to town. To get the initial Boom Vader reliable( mymotorcycleblog.com/boom-vader-reliability-upgrades/ ) it only takes a couple steps and a few upgrades, all fairly cheap. Now when you start upgrading for power the larger Lifan KP, might be a better choice, but why stop there, there are 190 and 212cc engines waiting to be installed. :p

I rode my Boom Vader stock for the break-in period very gently. No problems. However, as I recall, when I started to do upgrades, I found the carb was beginning to leak, and the gas tank was already leaking(broken spot weld). So even with going easy on the bike, there are some design/manufacture issues. IMHO: Easy fixes, new carb, and sealing the gas tank(I guess). Regardless, it has never left me stranded (yet), and I beat the crud out of it.

Upgraded the exhaust with a basic drop-in Grom Clone exhaust upgrade. Might not be a flashy as some of the higher end upgrades(might do that later) but this was an easy one for me. The Parts: mymotorcycleblog.com/tbr7-exhaust-upgrade-parts-arrived/

Great video very informative I'm thinking about getting one of these I have the KP mini lifan and it's a blast but I noticed that when you're on it it feels like you're sitting in it not on it and it seems small so I'm really thinking about trying one of these on for size.

I was looking at one of those 150cc clones and thought they were perfect. Too perfect; I wanted a little bike I could tinker with, and the Boom Vader gave me a bike I could ride stock and then have fun doing upgrades.

I just purchased one of these motorcycles, and your video gave me great insight of what I would need to inspect before take it to the streets. I will incorporate some of your modifications. Big thumbs up !
