The world of music needs more bands like Karnivool. I mean just look at this, it's perfect.
Luis Faraudo tool
Dead Letter Circus is closest.
Luis Faraudo
Leprous, opeth, tool, rishloo, soen, haken, etc...
This is delicious é ótimo hahaha, mas concordo com você,isso que é banda
Check out Sumer
My 29 yr old son just shared this with me about 10 minutes ago.. The sound is so clean and vocals clear.. I'll be 60 yrs old this year and love this band that apparently been around since 1997? When my son was 7??? Crazy Cool!! Thanks for sharing...
Hey "Jules" I'm right there with you. There IS great music out there. It's just not in the mainstream anymore (maybe never was). Harder to find, but very rewarding when you find it. King's X, Porcupine Tree, The Aristocrats....
Check out "The Butterfly Effect". Absolutely amazing!!!
Yep tots sick azz
@@cygnusx-7440 my ex missy was Jules maybe same lady.played this over an over epic
Hi Jules, I’m 64 and when my youngest son was 15 he put me on to them, he is now 28. We have seen them (together) 6 or 7 times since, The 2nd album Sound Awake is in my opinion the finest Australian album ever produced (for ageing metal heads). They had a tour of the Australian east coast in the works when COVID hit. They did a live online show recently which i missed. Great band.
The fidelity of this recording is so amazing, the bass is so gooey, the drums so crisp and everything occupies such a psychoacoustically pleasurable space. Karnivool has got to be one of the most forward moving bands of the 21st century, I can't wait for them to come to Canada!
4:28 Goosebumps every time i hear it.
Same
The line that always gets me in this beautiful song is: "A world of confusion awaits our sons and kin, let´s reset it all". This is so emotional and dark at the same time. Long Live Karnivool.
Then combine it with “it stings. It hurts. Is this how its meant to be?”
One of the best bands to ever walk the earth. True Artists.
Agree
The last part of that literally gave me goosebumps.
Full tingles the entire time, shiiiiet
Every time!
rhythm section!
+Kanchesnes that's what happens when half your band are drummers ;)
This is completely nuts! I've listened very intensively to music since nearly 20years now. There are bands which I could listen to for hours. You know? Bands like Pink Floyd, Sigur Ros etc...
But Karnivool is something different. I never get bored of their music, it's almost spooky.
All of them are so brilliantly talented and the music they make together is unreal and filled with emotion. Not something you get to see too often.
This happens probably with friendship, a good example is Rush
Drew wearing an occupants shirt is next level for me! It’s like Cog, butterfly effect, occupants, dead letter, Karnivool should all throw their keys in a bowl and produce us a mixed baby album. 🤘🏻🤷♂️🙋♂️🙏🏻
damn, i wish this version was on spotify
Steve Judd = 1 snare + 1 bass + 1 hihat domination
Alien
Pretty easy t play on t drums
Maybe late to the party but, on a minimal setup like this, forgetting the "freshly-teared-from-a-spiral-book-lined-paper-page held by 2 bits of tape on snare" is kind of insulting ! hahaha :P
This just doesn't age. This performance is perfect. For those who aren't aware, this segment on Australian radio station Triple J is broadcast live across the country at 8:15am. That's right, they created this live and quarter past 8 in the morning. Most of us can barely create a decent breakfast at that time of the day.
Hahaha, well said :D
At 8:15 I'm either still sleeping or operating the coffee machine :D
Agreed
Seems pretty rehearsed tbh. But still brilliant
they're professionals... its their bread and butter, no puns about breakfast intended.
Like yea I'm a big fan of Karnivool but this comparison to times of the day and their performance is goofy lol.
there were periods in the past where I would wake up at 4 am for work. 🤷🏼♂ The time of the day really has no bearing on their excellence
No one asked
That ending is absolutely beautiful. Everything about it is completely perfect.
I have listened to this about 20 times, I’m floored by the flawless vocals. Phenomenal.
And the agonising wait for album 4 continues....
Still here with ya mate
@@high2407 continued pain
Fair chance it'll be worth it, but they have definitely taken on tools time line for length of time between albums nearly. Quality product takes time I guess :)
Yup
Can relate.
You know the one thing that I like the most about this video and the hey now cover is the way the band members all look at Kenny with maximum attention and respect when it matters at stages during the performance. That's a sign of a strong solid foundation of a band right there.
Rubbish.
This song is legend, it will never die my children will love this song and their children too and so one and so one. It's beautiful I love the backing vocals, truly hunting. Well agrees?
Amazing. so much talent in one room. Ian's voals by the way are perfect. Such a wide, controlled range.
+Chevy Chase Agree absolute mind blowing
the bass player is the heart of this band !
See as a drummer i would say the drummer, so tight and flowing.. but we all have different perspectives and every one of them is so very talented.
These words of wisdom
come with lack of vision
this is the first, day I've ever
had to stand and witness.
So many years later... And this is still so perfect. So clean. So technical. So groovy. So amazing.
I really hope that on the next album they explore the dynamic of Kenny and Mark singing together. Mark really adds a special touch to this song here. It gives me goosebumps its so good.
+Sean PA Amen
and he's a top dude to boot.
Absolutely. His vocal melody at the end is way too quiet on the studio version of this.
Agree!!
@Sean PA I didn't realise it was a different producer but I've always felt disappointed by Asymmetry. I love experimental music-big Mars Volta fan-but for me Asymmetry just didn't gel; It didn't stick the landing. That said, I love that they went there, that they pushed new ground. It's not something you can say about every band.
Hopefully the next album matures that experimental style and like you say the old producer is back. Two phenomenal albums deserve a worthy follow up.
it's a really damn good version... I still have goosebumps
that last two seconds really kills the vibe
On the album version I hear this song as a 3/4 song because the Bassdrum is mixed very quietly. But live (and also on this acoustic version) I hear it as a shuffle.
So fucked up O.o
technically he's not doing the modulation on the drums in this version. He uses the china cymbal on the album version to make the modulation.
yeah that really trips me out as well. When I saw them live there are a couple of parts where he almost slips back into the album feel. I really like the driving 4/4 groove though!
until i saw this video i thought it was in 3/4. where is your downbeat? i had the snare hits on 2 and 3. which means the china cymbal hits were all on the "a"
ignorantFid It's crazy, when I hear this version I get a 6/8, swinging triplet feel. Especially from the bass and Ian's vocal patterns.
I hear it on 12/8 in all versions.
I love that song. And also, everything that Karnivool made. My kind of music.
How the fuck does this have any down thumbs? I just learned there is 65 idiots in the world. Karnivool changed my life. I feel every ounce of emotion they all put into their music. Still haven’t made it through Umbra without tearing up.
I agree! This song is freaking amazing!
The King of the North on bass, ladies and gents.
Nestor Centeno with Iron & Wine on acoustic guitar
David Tennant on vocals
Wow ! Wow ! Wow !!!!!! I love these guys so much and just watched this video for the first time. They are a very true to themselves band . They’re sound is clear, crisp, and cuts through me and invokes feeling I hold dear in my heart !!!
Couldn't tell you how many times I've seen this, would have to be one of my favorite pieces of music ever performed.
This IS PURE PASSION!! They are SO talented!!!!! Damn, this hits the soul 🧖♀️
there sound is so tight
These guys are unreal musicians
Beautiful
the composition as is is fantastic in terms of the original track ,this stripped version makes me hone in on the lyrics
Stumbled across this and WOW! So beautiful and powerful
One thing that separates karnivool from the rest is their ability to merge emotion into their music. You can feel their music on a different level. The guitar solo in Cote is a brilliant example, brings me to tears. Very well done guys 👏✊
There is a great contrast between the heavy bass/guitars and the melodic and light voice, that is just, crazy, I listened to this band for the first time back in 2014 and since then, they have been my favorite band.
Thanks for the edit!
I miss the talking, jeje
I think this is the first time I've cried to a song, it's so flooring and the vocals are absolutely spot on perfect, especially for a live performance. I wish more bands existed like Karnivool, they're so unique in what they do that it's hard to define them in a genre.
Dude, Mark needs to sing a song on the new album. Damm that sounded insane towards the end, goosebumps for days
Look up Karnivool`s cover of Sleeping Satellite. Hoss sure does some pipes on him
Perfect combination
It's amazing how 39 people were so blown away by the music they couldn't differentiate the like and dislike button
I saw these guys last summer in a small venue in Copenhagen, but at that time I wasn't really into them. Wish I could go back now and relive the concert cause they were spot on!
Great version
So amazingly good. Gets better every time.
Am seeing this performance for the first time...wow ,what a killer bass line through the song 👏👍👌👏
Timeless..
tears...
This made me cry today
Incredible.. So talented.
I know there's something wrong stop making it up
We're too proud to see we've lost more than our trust
And now there's nothing left, well's dead and dried up
Its disease has left a foul taste in our cup
It just keeps on flowing
And we drift on knowing
It just keeps on flowing
This babble from our mouth
Who we are I fear most of the time
Carry on shuffling in order and in line
Who we are I fear most of the time
Carry on whipping boy, stare into the light
Stare into the light
And it feels familiar for good reason
I want us to break the case we're in
With one of the tools of this catatonic skin
Remove all the parts
I want us to face the shape we're in
A world of confusion awaits our sons and kin
Lets reset it all
Lets reset it all
Well it stings and it hurts, is this how it's meant to be
Well it stings and it hurts, is this how it's meant to be
Well it stings and it hurts, a small price to pay to be
In control and rebirth what our future's meant to be
Who we are I fear most of the time
So carry on whipping boy, stare into the light
I want us to face the shape we're in
A world of confusion awaits our sons and kin
Let's reset it all (we are, we are, we are)
Let's reset it all (we are, we are, we are)
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness
These words of wisdom come with lack of vision
This is the first day I've ever had to stand and witness
The drummer knows what's up! So tight!
Still gives me goosebumps years on!
one word. EPIC!!!
This band is amazing.
That outro gives me chills
One of the best sounding bands out there. Pure bliss !
I am a YES, LED ZEP Gentle GIANT, RADIOHEAD Crimson, FOO, TOOL,APC, ELP Holdsworth....many more, and NOW Karnivool. Lead singer has a really nice sounding voice, emotional like Jon Anderson(YES) and Maynard TOOL and A Perfect Circle.
Check out Porcupine Tree! I love all those bands you listed, plus Pink Floyd and Rush, but would put Porcupine Tree in my Top 5.
Never have the lyrics to a song had more powerful meaning to me than right here. This IS the first day I've had to witness.
Will never beat the original. But super chillax version, killer take. Well done 👍
Great version of this tune
Stumbled across this version and can't stop listening to it....just perfect harmony of musicians and vocals!!!
I laugh so much at the way he stands at the microphone. :D Love it.
Masters at hand, shaping the future. Thank you.
Wow, these guys are so talented. Absolutely speechless at this performance.
I really wish the audio of this version was streaming somewhere. I'd even pay for it! Ha. Imagine that.
Awesome band real musicians.
omg I am still banging this in 2021! Shame Karnivool dont get booked more than BOT :(
oh my. as soon as they get done with the introduction... wow. ian is awesome. shit.. the whole damn band is fantastic. this band is one in a million. we all should be proud to have a band like this in our life time. no disrespect to dead letter and 12 foot. y'all got it on lock.
This is just so beautiful. Absolutely fantastic band that always know how to evoke a reaction from me.
Insane performance!
The first time when Ian sings "These words of wisdom, come with lack of vision. This is the WORST day I've ever..." That's what I hear three times, but in the last two times I hear "This is the FIRST day I've ever..."
I'm wrong? Sorry for my poor english. I love Karnivool and I make sure what the lyrics says.
You're correct, the first couple of times he says worst, last few he says first :)
Im pretty sure the lyrics are right and when he says "first" it's probably a metaphorical transition in terms of the song's meaning. Throughout the song he's singing "let's reset it all." So in the finale of the song he begins by saying "this is the worst day..." signaling an end. But as the music lightens up at the very end he says "this is the first..." signaling a new beginning.
the irony is that despite the reset, the cycle will probably continue where humans (we) strive for a destructive path for power.
it's why the part that reads "These words of wisdom, come with lack of vision" never changes despite the change from worst to first. also the last few notes hold an eerie, almost foreboding, tone before the track cuts out.
Andrew WIlliams Thank you very much :)
Alex Hyun Interesting analysis and theory. Make sense to me. Thank you ;D
This gives me chills every time I watch it, amazing!
Beautiful
still awesome
One of the best tracks and version I've heard for YEARS !!!! So Cool.
That was amazingly tight
I can't stop listening to this!
So effin good!
This is awesome! I listen to this version at least once a day!
For the guitar players out there who like me want to learn to play this: Tuning seems to be B F# B F# B E (low to high)
In the Chorus I think he switches between 2-2-2-X-0-0 and a kind of A7 shape (X-0-2-0-2-0)
I love the outro the most (theses words of wisdom...) - this seems to be 5-5-5-X-0-0, followed by X-2-4-0-0-X and X-0-2-4-0-X (leaving the high E string open on these last 2 chords doesn’t sound so good IMO)
Awesome. Just absolutely awesome.
shiver
This is stunning 😍
Damn, AMAZING performance!
Such passion and professionalism, god I love this band!
Just perfect.
Beautiful! ❤
Dam I love Mark's bluesey vocals
This is so fucking cool
i felt Ian's emotion when he does the ending, the outro...its my fav part
this is better than the official video, cant wait to see them live
This is amazing, I love the harmonies at the end. Mark has an amazing voice and his and Ian's blend perfectly.
He mucked around with a soundgarden cover band ( before Chris died ) he absolutely nailed the vocals.
The ending is beautiful enough in the original, this is just amazing... Plus a live fade out on acoustic instruments is so hard to do and rare, this band is so incredible
Ian reminds me of Aya Larkin from Skunkhour. Another great Aussie band. Such complete sound
It's a pleasure to watch a band performing so well in live situation. Well done guys
just discovered this band... I'm mindblowned
Oh how the tears flow when I watch this
Instantly loved this. What an amazing band. Their lyrics are so many levels above modern music i just wish i heard this earlier even tho i do love the original version but damn what talent
Bloody incredible. Shoutout to the Occupants T too!
How has it been 10 years already since this album came out
