I have seen many of Matt Corby's performances of this song. They just don't hit the same way as this version. EVERY time i get chills at the end. This is probably my favourite live performance of anyone I have ever seen. This will always hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my days.
Well here we go... I've listened and watched this astonishing recording maybe 50 times. I cry every time. But not before minutes of goosebumps. This is perfection. Truly. Not a single thing I can fault. I've showed it to a few mates. Same result. Moves the soul. Painfully beautiful
@@calnorman5370 Didn't expect to see Conor mentioned here. He's my favourite vocalist of all time. But I don't think we can compare the two. Matt is equally amazing in different ways.
Hallelujah. I completely agree. Didn't like the radio version at all but this stripped down absolutely rocks. And to think he sang it at 8 in the morning.
One of the rare moments where the sacred can be felt. I'll never forget listening to this whilst driving in my car almost a decade ago. It's absolute perfection for me.
2 years later and this version still make me tear up and goosebumps as he releases all that pain in the last 45 seconds of this song. and the way he finishes just chilling truly astonishing
This is truly sensational- incredible talent. Matt Corby is one of a very few who could be compared to the late great Jeff Buckley for truly remarkable performances. We are lucky he is a home grown star
Agree man... Imagine being in the studio while its being performed. Would take you a while to come back to reality after processing what you have just witnessed. Pure genius
I was 18years old when I found his live version for the radio. This song gave me so much chills! This and Ben Howard at the time where so soothing to listen to and a relief at times. English is not my native language but I was amazed in how some words give a sentence deep meaning and not to mention the music on top of that all wrapped together in beautiful vocals!
I remember listening to this live, watching a storm over the hills walking to work thinking there could not be a more perfect moment listening to this song, but watching it then and seeing the energy behind it... thank you Triple J and Matt Corby!
It’s crazy I don’t think it’s the greatest song going round but I reckon I’ve watched this 1000 times over the years and I get goosebumps every single time

I'm not sure how many times I've watched this over the last 24 hours, but I'm completely addicted to this performance. I've been a fan of his for a while, but only just seen this version. It's completely insane the levels of talent on show here - Kudos to Matt. Now, back to the start again...
Matt corby is hands down the MOST underrated musician and songwriter that may well have ever lived! I can't find another musician that makes me feel like that. This live performance stands against many of the greats as the greatest of all time
I don't know how many times I've listened to this, but I honestly think this is the most beautiful, moving and well performed solo acoustic performances I've ever heard.
Been absolutely obsessed with this song since it came out in 2012. Has been my favourite song and will always be my favourite song for my life time. Matt Corby is truely above all musicians.
Hes come so far from the 16yo kid on Oz Idol. Truly one of our most underrated musicians of the last decade. Australian musical talent on similar levels to someone like Daniel Johns in terms of songwriting ability, musicianship, vocal range, and musical genius. I will never not love this song and the stripped back renditions in particular. The pure emotion he brings out in his acoustic versions are so bitterly sad that I always get a lump in my throat and goosebumps and sometimes even tear up from listening to him. There aren't many other musicians or songs that get to me in such an emotive way as this song. Thank you Matt for giving me the gift of feeling such a pure emotion from your art form.
OH MY GOSH! the amount of energy and emotions that pour out of Matt as he performs this masterpiece is jaw dropping! I am truly speechless! And this song is so beautiful and it just feels a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders any time I hear it. It's such a breathe of fresh air!
This guy is epic! He was an absolute stand-out as a last minute stand-in at WOMAD, I couldn't have thought of a better muso to fill the last minute headline spot !! Hope to see a full tour soon !!
Matt Corby one of the most if not the most underrated artists to come from Australia in the last 15 years, the range that he shows in his vocals from chest to head voice from airy to full voice from soft to the grol in his voice I dare anyone to tell me another vocalist with this range, and don't get me started how good he plays the guitar
Me an the old man use to blast this version of the song bonding over a few rum n cokes. Hes gone now. I miss you dad. Thanks Matt Corby
💙
My condolences mate. Missing my old man too.
Bless you and your old man mate
bless you.
♥️
Who's here in 2024?🥺 the best performance of the song, way better than the soundtrack💘😪
Totally agreed. The live version has a raw emotion and really illustrates Matt Corby’s range.
Ive seen him live 4 times. He is so amazing but every-time i see him i hope he sings this song like this but never has
I don’t understand all the song but i feel sadness and it is very Nice
This song still gives me shivers like it’s the first time I’ve listened to it
One of the sickest acoustic performances in radio history.
💯 bro...always come back to this myself!
Either this, Everlong on Howard stern or Life on Mars cover by Aurora (also on Stern) are the live radio performances I always return to
This honestly might be the best live performance of any song, anywhere, ever, by anyone.
Lol ok.
As much as love this, John Farnham says hi
I stand by my statement.
@@samdiego1046 opinion*
@@timblack2331 I’m actually content with my word choice, but you can read it whatever way feels more comfortable to you.
One of Australia’s most underrated treasures.
How in the actual fuck is it even remotely possible to project this much emotion through a performance?!?!
Thats why it is called performing😊
Can never understand why the hell is Matt Corby NOT a worldwide superstar yet. This is savant-like genius.
he’s too good for us humans, naturally..
Fair.
Because earthlings in most of our part love garbage
Churchie...
I agree. So talented 💕
This has to be the best live performance of all time, GOAT
I have seen many of Matt Corby's performances of this song. They just don't hit the same way as this version. EVERY time i get chills at the end. This is probably my favourite live performance of anyone I have ever seen. This will always hold a special place in my heart for the rest of my days.
mariah carey called. she wants her vocal range back.
The guy is a legend! Also my nickname since childhood teens has been GOAT.. though definitely not in the same context you are using it lol
it's nearly been a decade and this song still hits me
Well, how is it after a decade?
Same ,I think it's because I made some mistakes like this ...I'm going to hell....but I will take this song with me ... stunning music,, inspired!
The GOAT Like a Version has come back to us
This reminded me of Quack like a duck if you fuuuuuuck

hey man, i hope that, where ever you are, you are okay. i feel for your loss, big hugs go out to you!
This is one of those songs that no one else should cover. The performance, lyrics and emotions are his. More than just a song

same here. its probably the greatest vocal range ive ever seen in one song. it goes from church to grunge.
Matt Corby is underrated... so underrated...
I wouldn't say underrated, the people that know him know how great he is, the issue is not enough people know of him!
Yeah he’s a big musician in Australia but that’s really all
Just underexposed mate :)
Regardless of where ive been in life, this makes me verge on unrelenting tears
THE best live performance. No one comes close to Matt Corby in terms of vocals
My mistake... Pearl Jam - Black (unplugged) comes close/just as good 😂
He’s obviously good but Conor mason is better
I agree he’s quality but I don’t think he has that growl like Matt does
Give a listen to Jeff Buckley singing live at sin-é. Matt’s actually a Buckley fan and covered his songs once or twice :)
@@calnorman5370 Didn't expect to see Conor mentioned here. He's my favourite vocalist of all time. But I don't think we can compare the two. Matt is equally amazing in different ways.
This is hands down the best like a version ever.
It’s not a LAV cover though, it’s his performance of his own song before doing the cover
Still better than the other version
This is still hands down the most unbelievable version of a live song
2021 and this still the best version of a great song by a timeless artist.

Hallelujah. I completely agree. Didn't like the radio version at all but this stripped down absolutely rocks. And to think he sang it at 8 in the morning.

Ooh ooh ooh
You couldn’t help out your own neighbor
You couldn’t tell it to his face
You were f*cked up by the blame
You cower in the corner
Confide in your father
Let it out and say
Let it pass away

You cower in the corner
Confide in your father
Let it out and say
You cower in the corner
Confide in your father
Let it break your day
Let it out and say
Wait there
Pull yourself out of this state dear
Acknowledge you were a fake here
From there on you might just grow
Oh oh oh
Somebody call out to your brother

Ooh ooh ooh
Hiding under the covers
With no one else to blame
Ooh ooh ooh
Oh, you couldn’t help out your own neighbor
You couldn’t tell it to his face
You were f*cked up by the blame
