I've been a fan since you demonstrated that Sergio's lag is largely a 2D camera artefact. I am 56, self and UA-cam coached. I've been mid-single hcp for as long as I can remember and I enjoy practicing. Since I started following you two years ago, i've come in to +2 and have had a lot of fun on the course. The way you present empirical data on what the pros do vs what we do makes it sensible to commit to a swing change, rather than just jumping from one random tip to another. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hey guys. My name is Shawn. I'm a golf fitness instructor and have three certifications in golf biomechanics and understand the golf swing pretty well. I watch a lot of golf videos. Some are good and some are bad (really bad) and one is excellent and that would be you. You guys have increased my understanding of the golf swing ten fold. Thank You!
I would love to see a video on how the wrists gently hinge and set on the way to the top of the backswing. I tend to hinge a little early which bring the club inside and off plane. I still get to a good position at the top but that early hinge and set creates tension in my hands and consequently my brain wants to use that tension to help create speed.
How about a drill to get tension out of the hands on there way to the top. It doesn't seem like a big deal but I know it has consequences throughout the downswing and release.
Thanks guys and I appreciate your fantastic videos! You are the best instruction online.

Another great video. Seems like a good time to ask this question. I've been working keeping my left shoulder down on the backswing, and it seems one thing that causes problems is when I try to reach back too much to create width. My shoulder comes more forward instead of down and my shoulders get flat on the backswing. However, I'm also trying not to keep my arms pinned to my chest. You showed an example of a guy with his shoulders sloped forwards some, which I thought was a counter to keeping your spin straight at setup. How should I think about my shoulders at setup and as the club goes back?

Genius. In terms of putting over a fundamental concept this is one of your best videos yet.
I understood the theory about protracting/retracting shoulders but the first time it clicked was in seeing the overhead views of the pros.
    Ta muchly for this.
One question/suggestion for a follow up would be to build on this and cover how the two arms need to work as one unit to keep the "real estate" in place. I think the lead arm can kill all the good work of the trail if it squeezes across the chest too soon

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  3 роки тому

Wow that was a great video. All the content was insightful, but the last part where Mike showed the drill regarding how incorporated the right shoulder “pull” was the best way to highlight what is the correct movement should be. I could tell instantly how I was doing it incorrectly by pulling my elbow back not my shoulder.
Thanks again guys, your insights and understanding of the golf swing is superb👍.

I recently discovered your UA-cam site and applaud your use of technology to demonstrate the 3D movements of the body parts in the swing. I was wondering if you had any drills or suggestions on how to get the left hip to move backwards to obtain that quasi sit down position at the start of the downswing. thanks for any help. Is it because I’m not building up torque on the backswing so I have no tension to start it backwards? Is it related to a poor set up? Is it simply a skill that must be learned? Thanks again

Thanks for all of the great instruction you guys provide to all of us!
This instruction SEEMS to contradict another GEARS video (one of the first I watched of AMG, that has always stuck with me) that showed how much LESS the Pros turn their shoulders (and rather, drop their right hip deeper) as compared to the AM who made a lot of shoulder turn but didn't drop the right hip back very much. The GEARS compared the angles of shoulder turns with the pros being much less.
How does that instruction correlate/reconcile with the instruction in this video for greater shoulder turn?
Very curious, and wondering if I am not remembering the other video properly. I'll have to try to find it.

What I would ask is that you not just give drills but assign a minimum number of reps and number of times going through the drills.
Such as : we see results happen with this when students do X number of these every other day, or every day, over this X period of times.
Keeping in mind we will be adding drills from other videos. So no one drill can be too much or go on for too long.
Also please always differentiate between what applies to driver, irons or both. Also just now things change slightly as you move up the irons and into hybrids/fairway woods.

Warning: Please be aware that most senior players do not have the flexibility to try and restrict the trail arm from folding. I know because about ten years ago I tore the muscles of my trail arm biceps doing just that,
However now I know that the golf swing is one percent action and 99 percent reaction. So all I do now is consciously swing with my UPPER TRAIL ARM to my personal limit to the end of my backswing; and then swing with my UPPER LEAD ARM to the full finish of my downswing ending in the repeatable classic finish I have sought for forty years now.
I could go into a chapter or two why science backs up my swing; but it is not necessary so I won’t. If only I knew the simplicity of the golf swing before my trail bicep injury. Cheers
