    It's really funny you guys posted this video yesterday. I played on Sunday and was struggling, but went back to some basic swing thoughts to get me back on track. I had seen a video of Mike Malaska doing the exact same thing Sean does in this video...one armed swings hinging and unhinging the club...a few weeks ago. It helps relax the body (especially the arms and shoulders), and helps me focus on what's most important. I immediately started contacting the ball more crisply. I do pull/hook the ball a bit more when I do this, but that's just a matter of proper timing and more practice. Thanks as always for the excellent video :)

    Something you don’t mention but I can see that you do as you swing the club: I see your feet working as you shift your weight in concert with swinging the arm(s). I’ve been doing these one arm drills for a couple of years and found that feeling my weight shift in my feet while doing these drills can significantly improve and ingrain synchronizing the arm swing with the pivot (turn-shift-turn). I never swing a club without feeling the pivot in my feet, no matter how small of a swing I do.

    Great work guys. Really helps with the timing of transition and weight shift. I've got a question about getting the arms down, "plane the club" into the delivery position. This seems to happen passively when tempo and power is 50-60%. To put a little more power should we actively lower the arms? Right elbow angle increasing. When I try to actively lower the arms/hands I seem to bottom out behind the ball even with proper weight shift.

    Hey guys! First, thank you for your amazing content and the relatability with which you present it. Second, do you have a video covering the period from impact to finish? Specifically, the area just past P7 where the forearms kind of crisscross each other, the upper body hangs back and the lower body has pretty much completed its turn? I just don’t understand what’s happening in the body there, and try as I might, I can’t replicate it. That position (always highlighted in the centerfold swing sequences of old Golf Digest ha) seems to be ubiquitous among the best players, and nobody really discusses what’s going on there or how to achieve it. Thanks in advance guys!

  • @brucestockfish
    @brucestockfish Рік тому

    You guys are the best out there, please keep it up. One question related to this episode: OK, arms and body need to marry up, connected and in sync. But to achieve this, is it arms/hands leading the hips and shoulders (and they react in support)? Or is it the body pivot leading the hands/arms (and they come along for the ride)? I learned the latter growing up a la Hogan and many others, and it seems to me most pros still follow this school. But many others are now teaching the former, and so I'm confused. I think I like the arms-dominant approach taught by Manuel de la Torre and now many others. What's the problem? Is it a trade-off of accuracy and consistency with distance and power?

    Your video is a perfect example that shows my point of view of why and how I swing my golf club.
    To start with: The axis of our golf swing in not our spine or sternal notch as been repeatedly said over the years. In truth the axis of our swing is shared by the two stabilized scapula bones that must move opposite of the other as we are swinging our club back and forth.
    To explain a little further the humerus bones of our upper arms are the only levers that moves our stabilized scapulas the opposite direction of each other. Our shoulders sockets or scapula should never be allowed to move independently of our swinging with our alternating upper arms swinging our golf club as they will move every which way and loose causing especially the dreaded over the top move
    Believe it or not! Golf is truly 1percent action on our part and 99 percent reaction on our body’s part.
    To execute a perfect golf swing as we are set up to our neutral square golf posture. All we need to do is alternate with the swinging motion of our UPPER ARMS. For our backswing we simply swing with our ´trail upper arm’ to the top of our swing and let our entire body including all the hinges and appendages of our body to react naturally and then on the downswing we simply swing with our lead ‘ upper arm’ all the way to the finish of our classic swing. Our ball simply gets in the way.
    At age 73 I discovered this perfect swing and I invite anyone to discover it for themselves. You might think I am crazy telling you this; but anyone would be crazy not to at least try it once without a golf club then with a golf club and see for themselves the magic of their new swing happen. Cheers

      Just means that the pivot will do a bunch of the work without you having to think about it when the club and arms are working well. The opposite is rarely true.

    I think the pivot drill is nice, but not with the right hand as a proxy for the clubface. The right hand folds way back, as we all know. Thinking of it as a clubface proxy would seem to me to be an invitation to disaster.

    It's a one of the greatest drill I've seen in the internet but I still struggling with the impact. It's relatively easy to make nice fluid swing but when you want to hit the ball solidly, it becomes another issue. For me a fluid natural swing and accurate impact seems forever contradict with each other. Whenever I focus on hitting the ball right, everything become so deliberately and rigid. Alan Lo

      there's your problem right there - focus on the swing more than the ball and it'll come to you. It is hard to do when you've never visualized it like that, but if you can practice at the range on the swing primarily and making the ball itself sort of inconsequential, i think you'll see good results. The hard part is getting over the hump to make the swing and sort of feel like the ball "gets in the way" of the swing. Just my two cents' worth.

    Im wondering how much angle the shoulder plane should have when fully turned. Ive tried to add more, getting that left shoulder really deep down, but I end up duffing the hell out of the ball haha

      Try this... get something long like a broom stick or even better an extendable painters pole. Hold it across your shoulders and make a backswing. The end coming from your lead shoulder should be pointing rough 2-4' outside the golf ball.👍
