You should utilize the stationary elevated engine idle control feature. No one should be at idle speed for 30 minutes. Elevated idle will improve air conditioner and alternator charging performance, improve oil pressure, and reduce soot build up in the engine. It's also useful for cooling the engine after pulling heavy loads. Ford has made this feature available to ambulance builders for decades for the reasons I just mentioned. Using elevated idle negates the 30 minute timer you mentioned
we got a 19 powerstroke at work that had a 5 minute idle timer and the only way to keep it idling was to hit the break pedal but if it was regening it would interrupt and start over again but it would never fully regen.

I wouldn’t worry about it. They aren’t actually fully clogged until over 150-200%. These new trucks actually have a fuel injector in the exhaust to burn off the soot. Allows much better regens without having the engine run at high rpm and dumping fuel in the cylinders on the exhaust stroke. Much better setup on these trucks in terms of emissions equipment
the question is Is the dpf really getting that packed that fast or does the computer want you to think that it is? L5P idles for 45 min. if the key fob is in the truck 15min. if its in your pocket, there is a $200 high idle switch that solves that but nobody orders it
Do you have the Aux switches? If so hook up a resistor for high idle to Aux 6. The resistor determines the RPM. 1200 or so is a good high idle that keeps heat in the cab in winter and should cut down on some of the plugging up issues. BD Diesel makes a selectable knob high idle switch as well. Not sure if they have one for the 23s yet but I’m sure they will soon.

You will need Tesla size battery to run ac for 8 hours. That’s about 5k lb extra in the bed. Sounds like good advice!
@@repairvehicle I wasn't giving advice so I don't see the need for snarky comments.
They already make a/c units that run off 12/24v meant to keep the cab cool overnight so I dont see why this won't be a possibility.
My point is, knowing how troublesome idling these engines are, maybe it would be a good idea if the manufactures would make an APU option wether fuel or battery. Thanks for your info, in any case.
@@ladin425 I wasn’t trying to leave snarky comment. I never said ac cannot run on 12v battery. You just need 5000lb battery to run ac for 8 hours, just like Tesla does it
I can't imagine idling a DPF equipped truck for 5 minutes, let alone 30. I live 150 miles from the Arctic Circle and use an 800-fill down sleeping bag when I need to take a rest. I stay warm, and the DPFs on all my diesels have been trouble-free. I don't idle to warm up, and I don't idle because I'm a pussy and my toes might get cold. If the truck is not under load, the truck is shut off. No issues with the DPFs
Been told since 08, not to idle these trucks
Two completely different engines from 08 to now.
Set parking brake and keep it in neutral
It resets get on the interstate and cruise at 80 .
No modern diesel does well with long idles and short trips. This video is an example of what happens when folks buy a diesel but don’t drive them like a diesel. When used as intended with 20K on the hitch and foot to the floor driving on a regular basis you won’t have problems with the DPF.
They're good idling long periods if allowed to high idle or regen while parked
Got a 23 and it does not have this issue hmm
Maybe the fordcan tool can fix that.
Wow these new diesels are weird
Run Adf 600 oil in it with a fuel catalyst & your regens will stop.
You have owned RAM diesels for a long time with success. Why start experimenting with FORD. Their track record is suspect. Just wondered.
Well maybe it’s the 3 motors that he had rebuild or get a whole new motor for his 22s RAMs. They all have issues. There isn’t a vehicle made that doesn’t break.
If you don’t tow often with these new diesels the omissions will kill it. They gotta get hot.
I don’t tow but I allow regeneration to complete before shutting off and have zero problems
@@repairvehicle yeah me either I took all that shit off
Do a video playing with forscan
Ford has a forced regen function for this reason. There more sooty than Cummins at idle.
Don’t understand what the whole big deal is when idling. You don’t get soot when idling. You get soot when fast heavy throttling.
My understanding is the truck (engine) does not create enough heat when idling to burn off any soot in the filter. When pulling loads, they create more heat and don’t clog filters as soon.
You absolutely will clog your egr and dpf with extended idling. That's a known fact
@@wizard_of_poz4413 That’s why Ford offers a operator induced manual regen option on their commercial/fleet trucks. I don’t know why they can’t offer it on all of their trucks.
@@davidjaskiewicz3461 I mean not great to be doing regardless because powerstrokes and b6.7s have that cheap ass exhaust stroke dosing on them
When diesel is idling it’s not generating enough heat to burn off soot.
Every goes vehicle has 30 minute timer.
E break she keep it going and put it in drive
The bar graph gauges really blows!!! Let's hope Ford dumps these gauges for 2024!!!!
Just here to see why I hate fords play out in real time. This will be a costly lesson learned.
Need higher rpm cruising around town .. doing 45 sitting at 1050 rpm is no good thanks to 10speed transgender
I blame regulations
Wow
Delete and tune it you won’t have a issue
Why do people want to pay $100,000 for a thing?
Power of the diesel engine
@@repairvehicle Power is right. We all want that Power. 1,200 TQ is unreal, but can it pull better than others, truly.
@@gen-zeke-8571 unreliable power is useless power. Majority of people don’t realize advertised power numbers are for marketing purposes to make people believe in something that they don’t benefit except for bragging rights
@@repairvehicle No doubt.
Blame the EPA.
pay that kinda money and u cant idle or drive around town without it plugging up !!!
Don't buy diesel in a pickup
Buy a horse instead
Trade in
😂😂😂😂
You can turn it off, at least I could.
I’ll be seeing you soon with a GMC 😝
He already dumped his duramax
The ho will destroy a cummins ho come on man your just being picky. After the update ram is going to do it will drink twice the def. The filter is not full at 100% the truck will regen whenever it feels right. Cummins cant idle either you just cant see in regening
Best thing to do for a Ford is to trade it in and get another Ram
The 2022s have done him dirty though... Take a risk on the Ford or take a huge risk on a 2023 Ram...
@@wtbman Or go back to a 7.3 Powerstroke
@@ChristopherPaulBacon-m2l he had 7.3 power stroke, it was constantly in the shop for repairs. It spent more time in the shop than on the road
@@ChristopherPaulBacon-m2lsome people want to go over 30 mph towing up a hill
Hmmmmmmmm
Not good
Hope you never need to drop the oil pan. 🦹
