    Hey, quick question. When fish eats cured egg, and after people eats that fish down the road. Is there any part of those products bad for people eating the fish?

    Can I freeze the sugar salt brine. I have them in plastic bags and there is a little liquid left. Can I drain that and freeze it?

    I did the Salt and sugar method and the eggs turned out dark brown color after 1 hour in the fridge, what did I do wrong?

    • @FishFray
      @FishFray  Рік тому

      If you use brown sugar you may end up with brown toned eggs which is not necessary a bad thing

      yes I used brown sugar... maybe too much. My first attempt to cure steelhead eggs and I can't wait to fish with them. thanks for responding.

    Take an old cure jar lid and punch holes with nail from inside out to make shaker and put a marble in to break up lumps

    Hey Fray, can any of these methods be left out of the fridge? Also, how long can these keep in the fridge? I had some that I think I put too much borax-o-fire in and they got super soupey and didn't fish very well. I like beads for that reason lol dummy proof.

    • @FishFray
      @FishFray  5 років тому

      I've kept these in the fridge up to two months , but I just use them up by them. If my eggs are "soupy" I lay them out on a paper towel for a few minutes before tying and they are much nicer to work with

    Just moved to Michigan from Florida a year ago so this is my first fall fishing.. I just got my first batch of fresh Salmon Eggs from a King! Anyway I followed your cure on both the 20 mile borax and borax o fire and my eggs seem soft? They’re nice and round still but you can still pop them, is that normal? For some odd reason I was think the cure hardens them up and makes it hard to pop. I went fishing this morning downtown GR with about 5 or 6 eggs in each spawn sac after about 10 cast most of the eggs had popped, is that normal?

    Are you using tap water for your brine? I heard that chlorine in the water will ruin the eggs.

    How long do you normally leave it in the salt & sugar brine?

    Butterfly the skein an get a screen from any hardware store and run the eggs over the screen, they fall right off

    • @FishFray
      @FishFray  5 років тому

      Ive heard this but I wouldn't trust it with such tiny , weak eggs. Never tried it tho

    • @ibrahimpatel5164
      @ibrahimpatel5164 5 років тому +1

      Fish Fray that method is better for salmon eggs. You’re right tho, I wouldn’t try it for such soft eggs

    I find stream hardened then simple salt is the best, Commercial cures and immature eggs go white too easy.

    Hey Fray. Can spawn sacks be frozen? Also how long is spawn good for in the fridge?

    • @matthewschutt7409
      @matthewschutt7409 5 років тому +1

      The Grasseater you can freeze spawn sacs depending on how you cure them

    • @FishFray
      @FishFray  5 років тому +1

      In my experience, you can freeze most spawn bags and they will thaw and fish fine. I think time in the fridge varies a lot , couldn't say an exact time

    • @ibrahimpatel5164
      @ibrahimpatel5164 5 років тому +2

      The Grasseater the eggs I fish with most of the time are salmon eggs from November 2017! They have been sitting in my fridge in a mason jar all this time! All I cured them with is salt and water. Still catches plenty of salmon and trout to this day

    2 kings will give you plenty of bait for the season n you don't have to kill steel all season to keep yourself in bait. And they work just fine.

    What type of skein is that

  • @italiantroutaholic8926
    @italiantroutaholic8926 5 років тому

    why not just cut smaller chunks and put then in the eggs sack mesh?????some do it that way .after they are cured??
    you can also go boraxo fire salt, brown sugar and that would make some good steelhead candy and you eliminate the brine step

  • @joshuabetz3167

    You won’t burn the eggs with boroxofire it does not have sulfates in it you could use the whole container if u wanted. You can burn with fire cure which is a sulfate based cure. Otherwise very good video thanks
