One of the best tutorials about salmon egg curing. Better than the videos that procure and pautzke put out for sure. I’d love to see what the eggs look like once you remove them from the borax containers. Thanks for the video!
Hi, quick question. When fish eats cured egg, and after people eats that fish down the road. Is there any part of those products bad for people eating the fish?
I'm not a scientist but I would guess no. Now, if their lifelong diet consisted of cured eggs then maybe. But when they eat cured eggs when fishing, they should only get a taste before the hook set and they either spit it out of lose them in the fight. So, I don't really think many fish actually, "Eat" cured eggs... Thanks for watching.
Great video and I've been using this process recently. One thing I've had an issue with though with this and other cures (Firecure for example) is the eggs will reabsorb the cure within a day to day and a half and then seem to start breaking down and losing the juice after that. Am I getting something wrong or is this something that just happens?
@@kevenparret9177 I think it depends on the stage of development. Whether the eggs skein is Ocean phase or well into dropping in a river effect retention.
I like to add sent while I'm using them. Unless I'm making them for a specific trip. I also don't cure them in metal. I use cardboard, plastic or wood with paper underneath.
It's more of a preservative than anything else so I would guess it shouldn't make any difference where it's used. I would worry about it negatively affecting your eggs or their effectiveness.

Why do you cover them in borax for storing? when you go to fish them is the borax absorbed in or do you dump it off ?
It keeps them clean and dry and falls off or washes off when they hit the water.
It also helps prevent freezer burn
Got it thanks!

Is the sodium sulfite good for coastal rivers too? Or is that primarily to make the eggs hotter for waters further away from the salt?

There was more sulfate in cures before Oregon changed it's rules. That's why they say "meets Oregon regulations"
Lol your like the Walter white of curing eggs! have it down to a science with a proper pristine clean lab!
😆
Why do you precut your eggs? I cut them on the river

So I don't have to cut them when I'm fishing. Either way works fine. Thanks for watching.
I'm worried for you, wear a mask next time. Lol. Really though. Don't need that shit in your lungs.
Thanks. I will. Stuffs nasty. 😆
