    I thought you gave the Remo Hobby crawler a very fair and thorough evaluation. You can see as you just drove it around that the shocks and springs are similar to the other cheap r/c cars. It bounced along not absorbing any bumps. Thanks for let us know about this crawler.

      Thanks, me too! BG does have one review on the sale page already and that guy gave it a good run as a light crawler but mostly as a basher. Definitely made it look good - and it does have legitimate strengths in the light bashing department! But I want to see it do better on the rocks! Stay tuned :)

    I liked Remo Hobby's previous crawlers (the Deadbolt and Honcho copies). A friend has the 1073 Deadbolt copy, and, as with this, a few simple and cheap upgrades have made it perform pretty well. Especially, as the truck only cost him £50, 2nd hand. I'll be interested to see how the mods on this one go. 👍🏻

      Things change fairly quickly with these Chinese brands. It's not like the big hobby names; if there's a model you like today, grab it if you can, because it probably won't sell be selling in a year or two!

    I just got mine today and trying to shoot a video and came across same issues as you... I know what the problem is and I can't find the solution with what they got. The problem is that it goes faster (more power in reverse) and goes slower in forward. They got it mixed up. The problem is there is no reverse switch for the throttle (only steering on the radio). I switch the wires on the motor and used the radio throttle in reverse and it drives much better (no cogging out). But without the throttle reverse switch you can never drive it normally. Truck seems good but this is a big flaw out of the box!

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 роки тому +1

      Oh really? I hadn't noticed that. Interesting and makes sense. I'll investigate further, thanks

    • @mikesrccorner
      @mikesrccorner 2 роки тому +1

      @@RCTNT I just figured it out. Beside the ON/OFF switch there is a small tiny round button. If pressed in it goes about 60% power forward. If it's out it goes full power. Ridiculous but that solves the issue with weak power going forward.

      @@mikesrccorner oh right! Glad it was simple :) I demonstrated that button on my review video - it's not much use, is it!

    Have to agree with your assessment on this one. Maybe this could be a controller you hand to a small child, but then I might wonder if they would be frustrated by its (lack of) performance. We handed the controllers of our SCX24's to our niece and nephew, and it turned into a demolition derby. They weren't bothered lol. Looks like it might be fun just bash around some trails. Those tires sure look like they were inspired by Voodoo KLR's

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 роки тому

      Heh I think the kids would enjoy this one. It's actually fast enough for kid level bashing and robust enough in the right places that I'd be happy giving it to a demo derby junior driver! But I think we can slow it down and get it better on the rocks - more coming soon on that! Cheers

  • @fishnrc294
    @fishnrc294 2 роки тому +1

    When you put the tires on the chassis it looked just like my Honcho chassis. But it’s way different performance wise especially the electronics. I replaced the plastic links with metal links on my Honcho & then the servo went out so I replaced it with a much better one. I’ve got some other plans for it but it performs really good. If you have a chance to pick one up it would make a nice project not that you need another. Sounds like me to many projects.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 роки тому

      Honcho is a solid performer, yeah! This one, not so much! But we'll see what we can do :)

    So... what I got out of this is, same money as the RGT RC-4 V2 136100, similar size, and *should* have similar performance, and doesn't even come close. aside from having the servo on the chassis instead of on the axle, no advantages, plus the disadvantage that it needs to have the servo and ESC replaced in order to get it to work properly. And it's got a lot of bendy plastic instead of metal. Oh yeah, and we have to change out the springs for softer ones. Almost forgot, replacing the ESC requires replacing the radio too. that's kind of a lot to do to this cheap truck to make it capable.
    It looks like it ought to be fairly capable. Going into this, I thought, not very expensive, looks like decent parts, should be okay, right? At least as capable as the RC-4 V2. and then... it's not?
    For the money, the RGT seems like the better option by far. BUT...
    All that having been said, I'd still like to see what this can do, with a better servo and ESC. I think it has potential, just the electronics are letting it down. As you noted, I don't think the bendy plastic parts are going to be a detriment. The tires seem pretty decent, it has decent articulation, the wheelbase is short enough to be handy... it just needs some help. I'm all for giving it the boost and see if it can do at least as well as the RC-4 V2 does. I really think that servo on chassis really could be a solid advantage, if everything else was up to snuff.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 роки тому +4

      Boost is under way! A minor spoiler - the esc and servo shouldn't need replacing to get this thing to go better. Hopefully.
      I've stared at this thing on the workbench until some inspiration hit and then have made a few changes already. Expenditure so far is at about $10 and the cutting-out issue, gearing and high speed problems have been addressed already. Center of gravity improved. A few other tricks too.
      Today, I'll address the steering. I'm increasingly confident we can get this done without replacing servo and esc/radio, so I'll keep at it then show you what I've done in the next one. There's definitely potential here! Cheers

    • @elduderinolebowski5411
      @elduderinolebowski5411 2 роки тому +1

      @@RCTNT Super glad you see definite potential with this thing. It looks like it could be a fun (and capable!) little entry level beater.
      One thing I'm really interested in is how you solved the ESC cutting out. I'm curious to know what was causing that, and what the solution was. Seeing that was I think the single most disappointing thing about this truck.
      On a similar vein, I'm also interested in the solution to the high/low speed issue. That seems like it could have useful potential value, if it actually works right.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 роки тому +1

      This high low speed thing is only useful for young drivers I think. I had hoped to find utility in greater throttle resolution but it ended up just cutting off at 50%. With this motor, it's just insufficient for crawling.
      I have it largely solved now. Just finishing the steering today then video time!

  • @Br0rB

    Looks interesting, despite it's obvious flaws. Throw in a cheapo 25-35kg banggood or aliexpress servo, an isdt esc70, a cheap 540 or 550 motor and one of those eachine 6ch radio/receiver combos they have on banggood. All in all about 80-90 USD. Should make a world of difference.
    I recently received my RGT EX86100 pro, and that's pretty much what I did, and it work so well. Drives wonderfully and crawls surprisingly well. I prefer it to my Axial scx10 II raw builders I have, but that's a hardbody and probably not set up perfectly. 😁
    Bought the esc70 for just over 20 dollars, the servo was about the same (metal geared JX 25kg),a 550 27t surpass motor (10-15 dollars) and got the radio/receiver on special for under 30 dollars with shipping. And it's a decent radio system.

      Excellent choices! I would definitely end up doing the same with this if it was a machine I wanted to run regularly.
      However, I'm working on getting it sorted for as close to $0 as possible - and we've already had some good results. Work continues today but I'm looking forward to the follow up video! Catch you then!
