  • I purchased a scroll saw blade conversion kit for my older Craftsman 16 in scroll saw. In this video I install and try out the kit. It worked although not as well as I would have liked. It is a bit difficult to get the blade to stay in and does sometimes pop out. It does however let me use straight end blades which come in a much wider variety.

    I am new to scrolling myself, I have an old 16" craftsman too! I just installed this kit today bcs of the versatility that the spiral blades give. My work looks so much better now

    Thank you so much for Sharing this video....I installed the Olson conversion Kit on a 16" Craftsman and with a little Tension Adjustment it is working Wonderful...it Surprises me how the little bottom piece that holds the blade stays on the C bracket....thank you I would have been lost if it were not for your Vid

    A very honest video. I have exactly the same saw, probably a similar amount of experience with scroll saws and wanted to know if this conversion kit was right for me. From what you showed I feel that it is so I will be ordering one. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post this video.

    thanks for the info, I have seen these kits on ebay and wondered how they work and if they are worth the money, I now think they just might be worth the money. now that I see how they are installed.

    Well I got my Olson scroll saw adapter today, and after a few minor adjustments, its running the spiral blade like a dream will upload a video when I get time, hopefully at the weekend! Now I hope to get really into creating amazing patterns!

    Try putting a rare earth magnet on the bottom part, it will keep it attached while you fiddle with the top part.

    Thanks for showing what we're up against with the *Olsen* *No-Pin* *Blade* Conversion Kit. Unfortunately, after watching your video, I'm *still* *afraid* to open my Olsen Conversion Kit Package. I'm really nervous how you say the no-pin blades will sometimes *pop* *out* on you. Can't have that happenin' at 2:30am while I'm Scrollin' in the shop and sipping *Jack* *Daniels* . With my old *Ryobi* SC-160, I sho' wish to God at least one Scroll Saw *Regular* *Pin* *Blade* Company, left on Earth, would take the time to make a Pin Style Spiral Blade (at least). I'd almost buy a year's supply from 'em.
    _My thoughts on your vintage scroll saw machine are,_
    I'm wonderin' if you didn't push your no-pin blade down off into the bottom holder as much, would you have more room at the top to play with during insertion?
    The *throat* *plate* opening *hole* on your machine is way bigger than my Ryobi Hole. And I feel mine is too big. Coming from the world of sewing machines, the throat plate hole on most of them are just big enough to let the needle thru (with maybe a wider slit slit opening on some models that do zig zag stitching). Was thinkin' about welding an aluminum plate up underneath mine to make a smaller throat plate opening.
    Are you still shooting out projectile blades in your shop?

    Blade change this hard to change with the Allen wrench would make some people I know not want to operate it and eventually get rid of it . Better off to buy one with the tooless and quick blade change . Been scrolling for 30 Years and I'm on my second Scrollsaw and the old Sears Scrollsaw I started out on had the easy change blade change . I did buy a used Sears scrollsaw from a friend and he'd had it seemed like forever and I ask him why he never got into it and he informed me the when it came down to the nitty gritty ( blade change was to much trouble) Rest my case . People do your research when buying a scroll saw , of course I didn't -but the first one I started out on the Sears Craftsman 16" had the easy/fast blade change . Just some food for thought ..........MB

    • @aniorange
      @aniorange  6 років тому

      I certainly see your point with the difficulty of the blade change, as well as doing your research. Doing research before a big purchase is always a good idea. For me, this scroll saw was a used $20 find on craigslist. I had never played around with scroll saws before and though, why not. I am a very big hands on learner and for a $20 buy in, I couldn't refuse. I quickly discovered the difference between pin end and flat end blades, wanted to try flat end, saw this conversion kit and once again thought, why not. I didn't put much money into it and made several neat projects for family and friends. I haven't played with it in years and just recently sold it to someone else. Someday, if and when I want to get back into scrolling, I will definitely have a much better idea of what to buy and what I want.

    Do you know how to remove the swinging blade holder under the arm
    There seems to be a rolled pin. But won't budge even with Wd40 and tapping with small hammer. I have a craftsman 26 inch scroll saw. One of the plates is broken is why I am trying to remove the top blade holder

    Would it be easier to attach the top _before_ you hook the bottom under? That way you don't need to squeeze the spring and tighten at the same time.

    Bought the Olson conversion kit, but I find it has a basic problem: there's not enough blade clamping area on either the top or bottom pieces, the blade is held by hope. Here is perhaps the best solution I've seen: ua-cam.com/video/2PpWZwLAf1k/v-deo.html

    I found a Craftsman scroll saw exactly like yours at a pawn shop today. I was surprised at how heavy it was. I'm not used to not seeing plastic everywhere. The salesman said he could do $50 on it. Would you recommend it for a beginner?

    I have the same scroll saw and haven't tried it out yet. I was looking for information on it and recognized it in your thumb nail. How is this kit working out now you've had time with it? Is it worth it?

    • @aniorange
      @aniorange  10 років тому

      It has worked well for me. I would still like to get a nicer scroll saw but this kit turned a cheap scroll saw that could not do much into one with more blade options. I am glad I got it. I will say however, it did seem to add a bit more vibration to the saw.

    • @patrick258181

      Thank you. I think I'll try it out. I'm just starting out and the wife's grand father used to do a lot of wood working all small stuff, but makes his back hurt too much so he gave me his entire shop worth of tools. This scroll saw was in it. I'd like to make the best of what he gave me. Where did you get it from?

    I just bought the Olson scroll saw adapter kit. The bottom part will not close to hold the blade. Can you tell me how to fix it?

  • @Michael-lo3ht
    @Michael-lo3ht 5 років тому

    The adapter is a poor design. It's pot metal. Plus the pivot point for the top piece is small. Trying to get mine tight on the 2nd cut the pivot point broke. You can forget trying a spiral blade.

    Okay I have been trying to use this kit for 4 hours now and have broken 12 spiral blades! I haven't even cut anything yet! Just starting the saw(I have the exact make and model as you) breaks the blade in the middle. I have adjusted the tension from loose to tight to no avail. The bottom adapter seems to have been manufactured very poorly. I still had to remove metal shavings from the unit. Also, the pins on the unit that holds the bottom of the blade are completely uneven. How did you get it to work? I am about to just call it a day and go back to pinned blades.

      aniorange looks like I did. I reordered one from Pozsgai's and it worked great. The rubber under mount made a big difference. I was also able to get a blower unit for it at the same time. Both are installed and working great. I ordered my first kit directly from Olsen and it took forever to get here. Took them 7 days just to get it in the mail. I got the unit from Pozsgai's 4 days after I called and ordered it. All is well now. Thanks for responding. I was at my wit's end.

    how is the adapter working, is it hard to chande the blade beneath

    • @aniorange
      @aniorange  10 років тому

      The adapter is working fairly well. You use that plastic tool to put the blade on the bottom part. I suggest making sure it is nice and tight. The bottom one tends to come apart easier. Then it is a matter of hooking it on the bottom and inserting the blade in the top. I have more difficulty putting the blade in the top.

    I just got a kit,all I get are broken blades. The so called manual tells nothing about how much blade you put in the holder, I have a sears saw like you, Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

    • @aniorange
      @aniorange  10 років тому

      I am sorry to hear that. When I first used my adapter, I had some problems with the blades slipping out, but but I eventually got them to stay. I would suggest putting the blades right in the middle of the clamp until it touches the screw. Maybe that will help.

      When I started this channel I had hoped not only to share my experience, but also to get feedback from others and learn more. Unfortunately a lot of people only make vague and unhelpful comments like, "that is dangerous", "you're doing it wrong" and "get someone in to do the job that has some know-now. You may notice I has stopped making videos for this channel. Thanks for watching!
