    My Ableton is joking around all the time. I found a good buffer size already and the audio always sounded great if I created a MIDI or imported a sound. But if I try to record, what sounded great for weeks is sometimes randomly starting to crackle for no reason, even if I didn't change any settings. And then I always play around with the buffer size and it's only getting worse. Some days later, I try it again and I change the buffer size to what it was as the mic worked well and as it started to crackle later and then it's sounding fine again, even though the number of the buffer size is on the level of the beginning and of the crackling again. This is only appearing while recording, it's completely random and super annoying. All people act like the buffer size solves the problem, but no, it doesn't and the test sound is also sounding good when it's crackling and it's 100% not about the mic and I guess also not about Windows.

    Great video - I thought I'd add for Windows users: in Ableton I am unable to adjust the buffer size. I have to use the control panel for my interface (Scarlett 2i4) which has an icon located in the system tray. It's just as easy, but it's in an external control panel. Cheers!

    Hey, thanks for the video! I tried everything in this video with no success unfortunately. However, I managed to work out that I was getting artifacting because the barrel pin power connector for my audio interface was ever so slightly pulled out of the connector. I pushed it in a further millimeter and it fixed all of my issues! Thought I would share in case anyone else is being driven crazy by a similar problem like mine.

    I'm so annoyed by this. All I'm trying to do is mess around with the piano, my CPU use is only ever at like 5% max, and no matter how much I fuss with the settings I still get pops and clicks when I'm just testing out a single instrument. Ableton is such trash.

      Calling the most used DAW worldwide, and one of the most powerful production software "trash" is something... I just think that you have to better understand either your tools or your usage. I use ableton with hundreds of tracks, midi in and out, audio in and out too, as a live setup, I play a lot with midi on stage, the CPU is always around 80+ with peaks at 120% and NOT EVEN A CRACK... here's the reason/fix why my sh*t was cracking- add incase anyone else is like "okay i tried everything YT and forums suggested and its def not my computer" i had like 5 tracks turned up wayyyyy to loud like redlining (don't ask lmao) and when i ran it through a VST (literally Valhalla reverb) my computer took a shit, all crackly. what fixed it was I TURNED DOWN all the tracks and then the reverb VST was able to work PERFECTLY NORMAL. so moral of the story is if ur tracks are coming in way too hot, turn them down and see if that changes the quality. use ur interface to create volume instead. Meaning, I came looking for this video because I had dropouts in my recordings discovered after the session is long over. Should I just grab an earlier piece of the tracks and paste them over the top of the glitch while cutting out the glitch from the track? Or is there a more elegant way? Thx!

      Same thing happens to me🤦🏻‍♂️ I can’t find the answer anywhere. Buffer size and latency isn’t anything new to me I’ve been making music for years and know exactly how my settings should be . However I’ve been using this new laptop and I get random popping when using Ableton. Doesn’t happen at all with my other PC or any other device I’ve ever used so I really think this is a much deeper problem. I have a pretty powerful laptop too and never even get over 10% in recording sessions but for some reason I still have some audio issue going on here.

  • @andresgiuffre6810
    @andresgiuffre6810 2 роки тому

    Well, the fix actually works. I'm on Windows, plenty of resources, CPU use on Ableton is no more than 20%, but pops are there sometimes. I use a lot of orchestral tracks, sometimes more than 50 or 60.
    About the driver, as I'm not recording any instruments or voices, I use ASIO4ALL, it works great for what I do, but to avoid pops when I'm hearing, I have to set buffer size to 1024 samples. Any number lower that that will make noises.
    I can't explain why I'm having that problem, my CPU is a bit old (i7 7700k 4.20 Ghz) but it's strong enough and I have 48 GB RAM using about 60% and leaving a considerable amount free to use. Every drive I use is SSD. Everything runs smoothly but music reproduction at a lower buffer size than 1024 :(

In logic when you've got some recorded track with some clip/pop problem in it (maybe because was recordered badly) you can draw a new audio "line" to the previous clipped line. How can I do similar stuff in Ableton?

I record my riffs, song, and all inspired ideas I have on my iPhone( it’s quicker so less likely to forget). As I can’t drag my sound recordings from my voice memos. I just put my iPhone cable into the guitar port in my Scarlett solo then re recording it so I can cut and “edit rough” tracks to relearn and record the music properly later on. But the noise is unbearable even as a rough piece lol. Please can you help me out?. Thanks pal 🤘🤘🇬🇧🤘🤘

I'm using Push3 as an audio interface and I get crackles from even pre-listening to core sounds without anything in the session, with any buffer size. I'm on a MacBook Air i5 which should be able to handle this so I guess there is a bug-state with warping/sound engine at the moment and they really need to get to where it was pre 11.2

    Hi Will! Always informative and helpful. However, I have sporadic audio crackling that seems unrelated to buffer. I'm using a laptop with 32GB RAM, 2.8Ghz processor, 140GB free space, and using your tracks template to run MultiTracks. My interface is a Focusrite Clarett 8PreX (Thunderbolt). All drivers up to date. All power management set to recommendations, The only processing on my tracks is using the Utility to pan drums tracks to Left and right. My CPU never goes above around 14%. And yet, completely randomly, I get crackling which makes using this live for worship extremely nerve-wracking. I've read some about DPC latency, worked in depth with Focusrite and Ableton tech support, as well as Lenovo engineers. I've also replaced my Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter and am planning to replace the Thunderbolt cable tomorrow. I'm not sure what else to do. Do you know any one who uses a PC/Laptop for tracks rig who has solved this problem?

      If you’re having latency you’ll have to drop your buffer till it goes away. It’s a bit of a dance. Low enough for latency, but high enough to avoid audio issues

      @@fromstudiotostage Ive tried all options, the midi issue still makes me headaches! BUT, I haven’t tried hooked up the midi cable (not usb) into the UAD Apollo. Might, this way the UAD helps to improve the midi clock.

    Funny story: I tried everything and it didn't work, until I realied that I've put a weird noise on the timeline which sounded like a glitch. Ooooops.

    Buddy problem number 1 is your using a MacBook or Apple computer - shitty operating system, over priced hardware, not enough ports and not much you can upgrade - I'm still using my my old computer I built over 8 years ago, can run over 50 tracks with no pops or glitches and it never crash's - Cheers!

    This literally doesnt help at all. Everytime you play any sound on ableton no matter what it is, its too fucking quiet. Macbook should never be used for music production as it is WEAK AS FUCK.
