in ableton you can also go to session view and click the little 'c' in the bottom right to see which tracks has the most performance hit to identify where you might want to freeze or other stuff :) - great video!
Excellent tutorial. Currently working on a music project and noticed my CPU load was increasing to 80% and above load. This video will definitely help to bring down the load percentages. Reading the additional comments, also helps me a great deal. Thank you and thank you all for your comments.
Cheers mate!, thanks for uploading this video, I had 7700k back in time 4.2 ghz base clock and 4.5 boost clock quad core, now i will get 5600g gig and this video helps.
Thank you again Bjonar! Really helpful tutorial video! Actually I don’t care about if the CPU is expensive or not, unless it’s worth my money. My projects could run smoothly on LogicProX with an M2 chip and 32g ram. Now, I’m going to change my mind to Ableton on x86 platform. Currently, my potential options are: 9950X, 9700X, or the on coming core-ultra 285K or 265K. Any suggestions? Thank you!
DPC latency is the main problem with windows. I am a computer engineer. So performing a million tweaks is necessary for music use case and if you know what you are doing you can spend 1500 on a pc or 8000 for an equivalent mac with the same storage capacity. I have a pc with 4TB of plugins try doing that with a mac for under 8k
Really lovely video. I am worried about turning all of my Serum plugins to draft quality because I don't know if it will export in high quality again! But I suppose I'll try it and see how it works out, and can always export with 2x again.
I will never buy anything other than RME for audio interface gear. Its been rock stable. As for cost, the build started in 2019. So in total I guess between 3 - 5k USD during the years.
Thank you so much! I’m suffering from this issue lately and it’s really insightful. Nevertheless I’m interested of buying the Macbook Pro M2 (and also saw your great video). Can you pls tell me based on both of your knowledge and these videos, which is best for music production (and these cpu issues)? M2 Pro or Max? Thanks again!!❤
Hey! I think going for the M2 Pro is a good bet. The Max give you better performance in some areas but that is mostly in video. I dont think its worth going for the M2 Max if you are doing music production. The M2 Pro is withouth doubt good enough!
I suffered so much with this on my mbp 2018 15 inch 16gigs ram and 256ssd. I need a new one now and think about m1 air but i fear that all these issues are mostly related to ableton not being optimized for any computer really and mac throttle issues. Your projects seem really small on all the videos ive seen so far and with these new computers and especially pro you shouldn't even be hittin the cpu with this project i think. Sure Diva is heavy but 16 or so tracks and some stock plugins etc would work even on older macs without M1, M2 etc. So it really makes me wonder if ableton just sux???@@bjornark

It’s been a long time since I used a DAW, does anyone know what happened to the DX plugins on Windows? Anyway I’ll try these tips out and hope I can play something back without any interference. Thanks.
I seem to work after updating and tweaking windows settings. It's nice to run this DAW off the pc, but DAWs that run off the cloud may not have these issues? Not complaining but maybe nice to run the DAW from the cloud, then save on PC?
Hi Bjornar, I am using 5900X With 64 GB RAM 3200 not overclocked and only get 5 heavy Synth plugins with 50 heavy FX plugins like SSL within Bitwig with 2056 samples rate working.....Isn't that a poor performance or just normal ? Thinking to switch to a 14900k Intel System...... .and thank you for all your efforts !
What should I do if the Ableton has never lagged or crashed, but now it just started lagging and crashing very hard, not even allowing to record a voice track?
Do you know how to detect the bottleneck point (crank point or why the song crank when CPU not overload) ? I mean your task manager also doenst go above 50% of each core
2:19 is hurting so bad...... edit: you can go from 64 to 512 but in my case i dont want any latency - it will probably increase if you do that ... actually i want my cpu stable and almost no latency
hi. When I do live recording, afterwards when I listening back then here and there I got small crackling noises. I did check buffer and latency, and my CPU hardly get over 20%. I am using Lenovo Thinkpad T440p, Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 and Rode M5 mics. I am recording singing bowls, gongs, drums. Any help is highly appreciated.
It depends on the VST. Some VSTs always export in high quality, but others follow the settings. Diva have different quality setting for exporting and real time use for example.
use reaper and buy more ram, cpu is not the only bottleneck. ssd drives have also quite better performance loading stuff into ram than hard drives. track the temperature of the cpu, use watercooling - more cooling could be useful
The multitasking option does not affect the audio quality, but rather the performance. In multi-core the task is distributed among several cores, but this has nothing to do with the final audio quality.
those cracks and pops only happen easily on windows, and im a windows user, but you see everyone in the end using a mac for music production xDDDDDDDDDD
@aoto9536 nah I have a really nice pc and my ableton still cracks when I click over to another page like a youtub video or something. But then the problem stops as soon as I click back on ableton
