The last Sabaton show I went to before lockdown, Atlanta in 2019, about three songs in, somebody in the audience just randomly started going "ohh-OHH-ohh" and in seconds the whole venue was doing it (myself included). Joakim just freezes up on the stage and his head whips around and he's got this deer-in-the-headlights look. He goes, "Ohh, I see, you all think this is a democracy, like you get to vote on the songs. WELL YOU DON'T!" They did play it later though.
I saw their show in Vancouver in 2019 and the same thing happened. We all joined in for the ohhOHHohh a couple times, the last one was right before the end and Joakim said something like "damn I thought they forgot we said we'd play it" hahaha
Fun Fact: The Vikings most likely invented "Flyting" which was a ritual poetic insult contest using rhythm and rhyme. So basically, they invented modern day rap battles.

The first Sabaton song I learned to play in guitar. I have never seen a crowd come together like they do when this song plays live. I danced with strangers, sung with friends made that night, and enjoyed some good power metal. God, I miss seeing them live.
So my Swedish Pagans story comes from their show with Nightwish in Vancouver in 2015. I had done a two year intensive course at university and the show fell on the night of the last day of the last showcase for the last semester, the day everything was Done, Finally. I had been relatively sleepless and without days off for two years, and then extra sleepless with final projects and showcase preparations, and then stood about in a cold dusty showcase room with a cold brewing talking a lot to people about my work. My mom drove me home after the showcase (she'd been in town to see it) and i had just enough time to get changed and get to the venue. I was in full-on "it's over, it's done" .frodo and sam.lotr.gif mode. A little crazy around the edges. Being THAT excited to see two of my favourite bands on the day I finished a course that intense, and very excited to see it with my best friend, we were having a bit of a "guess the song from the stage banter" game. Joakim started talking about Canada vs Sweden and hockey and how the swedish are better/vancouver's team has often relied on swedish players, and things like this. So I had a suspicion. And then the first ooh-OH-ooh happened. You know when you get excited about something and you sort of pat your friend on the arm like -tap tap tap- Oh! Oh!! This thing! Welllll I got too excited and full-on punched him in the arm and he will never let me forget as long as I live. For the record he also does not get the excitement about this song, which makes it extra entertaining to me :p I also sung along to every sabaton and nightwish song at the top of my voice that night, and went out with friends after, ended up getting home at one in the afternoon the next day, and lost my voice so bad I couldn't speak for a couple weeks after. Worth it.
08.02.2016. in Belgrade, Serbia this band was on a Heroes album World Tour. Concert started with Ghost Division, as usual, and Sabaton played a lot more after this song. While Sabaton played this other songs, the crowd cheered intro from this song (that Ooooooooough, oooooough, ooooguh chorus). Joakim stop the band, tore up bands playlist and they started to play this song right after that. Fun fact: That was the first time they put their TANK as a platform for drums. Thank you Sabaton for very nice memories.
My clearest and most personal memory regarding this song took place after the "Noch ein Bier" Festival at Gelsenkirchen five years ago. It actually happened after the show on my way home with public transport. Me and two other guys started humming the melody and within seconds the whole crowd turned the bus into a driving concert venue. As far as I can tell, every woman, man and child was singing along. It was awsome.

Joakim pulled the set list off the stage and explained politely that Swedish Pagans was not on the set list. Tommy asked to see the list, balled it up in his hands, and through it in the crowd. Joakim flipped him off and played Swedish Pagans
I would have loved it if we got some footage of Joakim being pressured to sing it as well. Or if they invited both of them. But great change with Tommy! Can we get more episodes with the other band members as well? That would be so awesome!
Alright, now THIS saved Christmas for me!
Hello från Skåne Sabaton !!
Hade varit riktigt häftigt att träffa er men är väldigt introvert av mig så blir tyvärr inga konserter för mig (För mycket folk) men stöttar er från andra sidan skärmen. Rock on !!!
Merry Christmas Sabaton fans
Vikings: row along unknown rivers pillaging enemy towns
Tommy: covid presents a bit of a hazard
I don't think that they will be that surprised.Wagner wrote masterpieces inspired by Norse mythology
Wasnt he the guy that Hitler praised all the time? You know, the whole "One cannot understand naional-socialism, without understanding Wagner."
@@gilgamesh7055 Hitler wasn't the guy who said it as far as I know. But yes,Hitler and many others at the Nazi party praised Wagner's work and for a good reason.Wagner was a good musician & composer. We hear parts of his to his day in many movies and most iconic in "Apocalypse Now".
Tommy is great, 10/10 interview.
1) Tommy looks like a young Meatloaf... and thats not a bad thing!
2) So the Nordic/arabic connection in the movie "13th warrior" is actually plausible...
The chant is the reason it stuck with me, imagining, my clan mates and me. Slowly rowing through the misty seas of yore. A slow deep chant, calling the valkyries to watch over us as we strive for riches and glory!
Personally, if there were any epic charges into epic battles to be made, they would go well with this song.
Tommy is so freaking tall and a godly guitarist
He is!
Swedish pagans: *starts playing*
Joakim brodén: you dare oppose me mortal
Fans trolled them for years requesting the song. Band covers it last on their history channel. Well played, Sabaton.
The last show I went to (Chicago in 2019), it was Tommy's Birthday and he started the chant for Swedish Pagans
A perfect gift for Yule.
Indy fought a glorious battle with chield and axe, dressed in eastern silks and a gjermundbu helmet - that's why his hand is like that
They finally did it SWEDISH PAGANS!!!!
FINALLY! IT HAS COME!
So Indy brought a real Viking to the show. Tommy look like a Viking indeed!
Me: time to go to bed..
- uhh what that a notification from Sabaton history
3 Hours later..me and my upstairs Neighbor ......"ohh-OHH-ohh"
Tommy is a treasure
Merry Christmas gents.
Thanks for helping take my mind off this bizarre year!
no suprise jokaim wasnt the guy with nidell at the start lol
Brilliant way to celebrate the holiday season and the last ep before the 100!
Nevermind rocking that Fowlen's Army shirt.
@@Rougecoat13 MOO for the win! \o/
Of course it had to be Tommy for Swedish Pagans.
Everything else would have been a sin.
Merry Christmas guys-keep up the great work Sabaton and Indy ! We have home schooled our kids for years and now have added this to "fun" learning the true stories behind the sometimes not so true history!
I love tommy form of explication to the song is like a old warrior talking about a ancient tale
I love this channel
This is what i was waiting for past few months. It's here FINALLY
LOVE THE BROODY HELMET LAMP
Back in 2016 in kosice, there was a sabaton concert... i remember thobbe playing swedish pagans, then joakim turned at him and said : you know, they have a name for people like you in slovakia, they call them KOKOTI (d1cks) whole crowd of 3000 people went laughing and then, singing along the song.... it was great
It's a bloody Christmas miracle
There is a region along the baltic coast called Roslagen. Many of the Vikings traveling east came from there.
wanted a episode for this song for so long. best Christmas present ever.
Finaly instead of the usuals two we have an episode with one of THE best guitarists in Sabaton
very good work
For those that don't know... Tommy has an amazing voice.
He does!
