YES! Finally someone comparing boost pedals is including the OD808X. I'm very curious how it's holding its own against the more "obvious choices"! Thank you, Scott!
I sold my 5150 about 4 years ago..I ran a Rowin and Donner Boost Killer in the effects loop and they both sounded amazing through the 5150 amp head..I still have the 2 boost pedals after 6 years of continous use..and payed $25 each with free shipping..I had a Plumes and several others but the 2 cheapest ones have stayed here he longest..I have been using them to boost my EVH Stealth 50 head and 15 LBX Stealth head and same results..Awesome ! I do like what you did here..excellent video.
I just made a deal with my guitarist.... 1k for his original 1992 block letter Peavey 5150 and his Peavey Ultra plus head. So I'm definitely going to watch this video. I'm excited!
The 808X is my favorite. It does a great job of cleaning up both the low end and the fizzy sound of the upper mids while cranking the aggression way up.
I'd pick the OD808X here over the Slamurai for a mix I think. I didn't have much luck with the slam.. Beautiful pedal that I really wanted to try to like, but didn't dig the feel and something was missing in the mids.
I've always struggled with getting high gain tones out of classic crunchy amps so I'm now looking at the Mesa mk IV and the Peavey 6505 or similar... So, what's the point of using a boost with such amps? Shouldn't they have enough gain already? If it's just to tighten the bass wouldn't be much smarter using an eq in front or even better in the loop (with the bass pot on the amp very low)?

Thanks for watching. And no it was too much work for just the green channel not doing the red too lol. But to be honest I think a 5150 with a boost on the green is better than boosting the red. Feels like there’s more control.
Well, the only “problem” I have with these videos is when I go and search for the pedals I think I like and then I’m faced against their… daunting price and availability 😅 Are you still planning on making a similar comparison with the JR Terror?
Hey, thanks for watching. Ya I have been meaning to do some pedal demos on the JR. it’s such a great foundation amp and sounds really good with certain ODs and EQ pedals.
I hear ya. I am not the biggest fan of v30s but I know v30s and 5150s are a classic pairing so I opted for this cab in the demo. I have a Mesa 212 with v30s as well but IMO this Randall sounds better than that one.
Those of you wonder why a monster 5150 sounds so funny and needs a boost is because he's playing a 100 watt hi gain amp with the volume all the way down....
Yea. The pedals are boosting the crunch. This would sound very different (and mostly awful for this style of music) if you had these in front of the clean channel only.
That guitar needs a setup for low tunings. Pedals hardly sound much different, seems the speakers and the amp and the deep tuning make 90 percent of the sound.
Yes. Amp and speakers make up most of the sound. Pretty common knowledge. And you’re telling me “setting up” up the guitar would make the sound differences more noticeable? 😂😂😂
@zoolygreb7885 given the number of likes, views and positive comments on this video (and just the pure facts of how ODs are used to boost high gain tones) I’m pretty sure it’s you that doesn’t it get it my friend. It’s ok, not every video on UA-cam is designed for you. Move on.
Tune it first bro..., shit . Good video. They all sound the same damb near. This kind of shit has to be raw to hear for me . Its a feel thing too but ,,,?? Fuck,... . Awesome Shit Brother next time just record room sound ?? Wtf I know lolol
Dude that is some of the most consistent riffing I’ve seen. Nice work bro

OD808x is so sick. It was very close to making it in my top pedals. Highly recommend it.
Thank man, you save me lot of time, dirty tree and plumes was my favorite on this shot out, thanks again, nice work.
Cheers. Thanks for watching.
This is a great video, lot of work went into this for sure, thanks for making it!
Cheers thanks for watching!
Thanks for putting the time in.
Thanks Chris, cheers!

That’s a good deal on your end!
I see both of those amps selling for 1k by themselves what the hell dude sweet deal. Congrats!
Great video, very useful & informative. My favs were Maxon Fortin Modded OD9 & the Souldfood.
Cheers!
Thanks for watching!
Damn i thought i had already commented on this great video. Guess not. Legend video!
Most excellent, this was a great video!
Thank you!
this is awesome! OD808X and the Blues Driver had the cut i need
The 808X is my favorite. It does a great job of cleaning up both the low end and the fizzy sound of the upper mids while cranking the aggression way up.
The KHDK LCFR II Sounded best to my ears with your personal playing and gain level on amp!
My favorite was the VFE Standout!
VFE is a fun pedal. One of the most different of the bunch for sure.
Guess you could say it *stood out* the most.
...I'm gonna leave now
I liked the 808x, SD1 and MT2. Brutal.
The 808 and Soul Food were nice. A bit more reasonable.
the pepper 6:40 black tree, was that feeding back a little? or just the scream off the string dampening?
OD808X and SD-1
Legend video! You are appreciated!
I was surprised how well the hm 2 did with the peavey it seems like a good match

Gup Tech Le Chiou EQ-Boost is basically a Friedman Buxom Boost clone in case you didnt know.
Fortin blade 🤘🏻
Great job!
I mostly agree with you, my favourite it's been the In Waves!

You're from Spain, not the UK.
Don't be shy, use Modern English.

Great vid! Will you be doing this with the lead channel too?
Thanks for watching. And no it was too much work for just the green channel not doing the red too lol. But to be honest I think a 5150 with a boost on the green is better than boosting the red. Feels like there’s more control.
lesss gooo!
Wow!! That's a lot of overdrive pedals 😂😂
It was daunting, but fun to do.
wow, great collection! Need add Fortin Tempest ;)
I do. I’ve been meaning to get one for a while now.
Hey man not sure if anyone asked this or I missed it but what speakers are you using?
Well, the only “problem” I have with these videos is when I go and search for the pedals I think I like and then I’m faced against their… daunting price and availability 😅

Hey, thanks for watching. Ya I have been meaning to do some pedal demos on the JR. it’s such a great foundation amp and sounds really good with certain ODs and EQ pedals.
personally the cab sound for me isnt my thing but i liked the lcfr

I really liked the soul food , the ep boost was fat as hell though
Those of you wonder why a monster 5150 sounds so funny and needs a boost is because he's playing a 100 watt hi gain amp with the volume all the way down....
So wise. Make a video. Show us how it’s done with the volume to 10 big boy.
You're on the crunch channel?
Yea. The pedals are boosting the crunch. This would sound very different (and mostly awful for this style of music) if you had these in front of the clean channel only.
But ...the red light for the lead channel is off.
Yes lead channel light is off because I’m using the green crunch channel. It’s also an old amp and the lights aren’t all that bright to begin with.
How come you did this shootout on the green channel? I would have loved to see this test done on the red channel.
That guitar needs a setup for low tunings. Pedals hardly sound much different, seems the speakers and the amp and the deep tuning make 90 percent of the sound.

It's Amazing... =b
You missed the best.. boss od3
Fortin Hexdrive
Ibanez ts9
Soul Food was the best.
awesome review, i feel your're out of tune or intonation, something like that,
Useless - when the amp is already overdriven to start with.
Tell everyone you don’t know anything about ODs and boost pedals without telling everyone you know nothing about ODs and boost pedals.
@@ScottBynoe That comment is about as helpful as the video.
u put the od on an overdriven amp to get to the point of distortion. i do the same w/ my amp, pretty useful for metal/ post hardcore
@@diablomozzarella4525 I know what you mean, but you don't get it.
