All your 5 Favorite OD’s sound great man! Here’s my top 5 favorite overdrives: 1 - MXR ZW-44B 2 - Boss SD-1 3 - MXR M77 Custom Badass Modified O.D. 4 - MXR CSP-036 Il Diavolo Overdrive 5 - EHX East River Drive I use overdrives as a colored boost primarily, except for the SD-1, I dial up just the tiniest bit of clipping, it darkens the tone in a very pleasing, subtle way. I mainly do this because to my ears, the SD-1 starts to sound crappy w/the volume past 3:00, so dialing in a little clipping kind of makes up for this. I’m talking about setting the drive control at 1 or 2 tops.
Mud Killer and Precision Drive are my favorite "always on" overdrives I also own an MXR M-77, SD-1 Waza, TS-9, Maxon OD808, Earthquake Plumes and a few others They all do the job well but the MK and PD rule the roost
The first pedal I ever used was my sons' walrus audio Voyager with my JCM TSL 60, even though it was a transparent overdrive it helped tighten up the flubby low end
Wow, all these sounded great, must’ve been hard to set a top five. We both definitely look for the same things tone wise. I’ve learned a bunch since finding your channel. Keep rockin bro, I love it. Cheers
This is exactly what I needed , I own the joyo zombie 2 amp which has a dual rectifier sound , the distortion it gets alone is really cool but I'd like a good overdrive pedal to tighten it and make it chug more !
The Pepers "Dirty tree" is a fan favorite overdrive pedal. Is costs around $135. So it's not cheap but not super expensive. You should check it out. But if you want a amazing badass overdrive, the KSR - Eros is a phenomenal overdrive. Loaded with features and extremely versatile.
I have the same amp & I put EQD Plumes OD in front. Sounds great! All the ods in vid are great but are on the pricey side $200+ish. Plumes is $99 & does the trick with 3 voicings especially on a budget.🤘🏻🎸
I have the original 3-knob Zombie, and I run a GE-7 in front with the 800hz and level boosted about 10-12db and it really tightens it up and makes it come alive. You might also want to run an EQ in the loop as sort of an added tone-stack since the Zombie just has the Tone control.
Great overview! Enjoy the thoroughness of your descriptions and how you showcased the sound samples. Maybe in the future, you can line them back to back for direct audio comparisons? Keep up the good work.
Your recommendations are golden. I find my self paying more attention to what you are boosting with than what amp you are playing. So a big thank you to you good sir! I would love to see your thoughts on the Aires overdrives. Just a thought!
Seymour Duncan 805 overdrive pedal will never leave my pedal board. It is the best in my opinion. Dave Davidson said the same thing and the 805 is what he uses on every record and live performance, I noticed the other guitar player uses it as well. Brutal musicians pick the brutal pedals and the 805 is 🤯.

Hey, if I could get one more new pedal and my choice was the KSR Eros (which I don't think you like?), MXR Modifed OD or Walrus Stages, what would you suggest? The MXR I had many years ago and recall liking it.

Hey brother. Been watching your channel for a while now, and its very informative every time. I am in the market now for another od pedal. I've been using the sd-1 for 20 years now. The MXR 6 band eq has eliminated my need for a boost pedal in any of my heads. Took it out of the box, looked up Dimebag's settings...boom! I really didn't expect that. Now I have a lot of overdrive pedals collecting dust.
The EQ is a great option as well!
@@belligerentamateur It just really amazed me. I had put off getting one and now it's the best pedal I have. Now, I just need a gain pedal for liquid, compressed sustain.
i love how you captured the character of each overdrive in the recordings , it is so good .
How do you get that tone
Hi kyle . Im new to solid state amps , i have a orange super crush 100 head and play metal so is it ok to run a seymour duncan 805 overdrive to the front of the amp on the dirty channel
Sure is! If you like it, it works!
I like the firth one.
Stock Balaguer pups?
Yep! USA Hyper-Novas in this one
That Walrus pedal is pretty impressive. I never think of Walrus audio when i think of OD pedals.
Yeah man, I really really dig the Ages, especially for mid gain amps!
