My theory is that it is staged, but Peter didn’t know that, which is why the promoter didn’t give him the money when he went off-script and caused a serious injury
I met Macho Man in about 1987/1988 timeframe at the Bally’s health club in WPB, FL. I worked nights, so worked out there after midnight usually on my nights off. He was curling around 185 lb if I recall correctly. I was astounded by that and how pleasant he was as I said hello and told him I enjoyed his showmanship in the ring. He said he was getting prepared for a match at the auditorium nearby that weekend. We called the WPB auditorium “the leaky teepee ⛺️” … it was shaped like a concrete tent. Nice guy who I remember fondly. RIP 😞 🪦.
Macho Man actually injured his neck shooting this scene, you can see him land on his head when he bounces off the ropes, that's actually him and was an accident! Apparently he shot the rest of the takes anyway while injured, but he couldn't turn left without moving his whole body for the rest of his life because of shooting this scene. RIP what a Legend.
