    Porsche is the real deal. It is the only brand in the world that offers everything under one hood! The Cayman GT4 is beautiful and some sat its even better than the 911. Congrats. I am also getting mine soon.

    PCA is definitely worth joining , even just for the monthly magazine they publish, Panorama. I plan to go to the Werks reunion in Monterrey this August during car week.In April I signed up for Treffen Wine Country event in Sonoma, an excuse for a road trip from SoCal. I have a soft spot for Toyotas since they were my first two cars.

      Nice! Even before I got my Porsche I've been attending the Werks Reunion the past 2 years. I'll have to keep an eye out for the registration for this year's event, it's such a great show.

    Have owned both 911 and 718 Cayman both are great cars but I think the handling and foot print of the Cayman are way better, the 992 911 is just a bit big especially when compared to the Cayman.

    When my kids left home I wanted a fun car. All my research noted most comparisons were to the Porsche 911-the car that does everything well reliably, so I bought the benchmark. Then I bought a cayman s (981). Both are fantastic in their own way and never regretted.

      Awesome -- which generation 911 did you get? For some reason my personal tastes lean towards the 991 generation, maybe if I don't like the design direction future Porsches are taking I will just save up for a used 911.

      @@86drive86 A 991.2 targa. Love it. If you buy used I would buy 1) from someone you know, 2) cpo, or 3) from PCA member (The Mart). I think this improves your odds with a used car that you know what you are getting.

      Saw Jeff Richardson vid recently and he discovered the Cayman underneath is mostly 911 parts. This applies up to 991 /981 not sure though about 718 on. So I wouldn’t be concerned about the Cayman vs 911

    I got my 718 CGTS MT for the same reasons as you. It's an upgrade from my 981S MT. I DD both cars (still in break-in on the 718 ATM) and the application as a mini GT car for road trips is valid as well. The mid-engine layout is a dream on the track and while you won't break many records without a PDK, it is a great weekend racer. I think Porsche will walk back the decision on ICE motors just like Ford and Toyota so enjoy the car and don't worry about it being a collectible. Oh...and you should PPF the front end, rockers, rear fender, a-pillars, and forward portion of the roof (pretty much 75% coverage) if you haven't already.

    I think of the 718 GTS as the big boy car to my 22 BRZ, lol. It's pretty much my dream car, but I think I picked the wrong line of work to afford one - ever! congrats!

    I have a CGTS manual in Python Green. I love everything about it and never want to sell it!! Cayman instead of 911 is a tough one as it’s down to personal preference. But actually I prefer the layout of the Cayman and the size as well, feels a bit more lightweight to me and I like that. And the engine obviously which is fantastic!

    My two cents, from someone who has owned 5 911s including a 991.2 GT3, you have a fantastic car. Drive and enjoy your car.

    After driving my MR2 V6 swap yesterday... I'm at the crossroads as well... I might end up saving for a porsche myself... I'd like to have a sports car for longer trips with the wife... It seems to be the closest to the mr2 in spirit. ( I think more so than the Emira. ) I will test drive a C8 first though and possibly Emira if one is available... I'm taking my time on this one... 2-3 years.

    • @86drive86
      @86drive86  4 місяці тому

      I'm jealous of your V6 swap, I think it would be harder for me to justify a Porsche if I had that powertrain in an MR2... but yeah I'm getting older and like my creature comforts, so a newer "more luxurious" car starting to make more sense for me and my wife. C8 is a great choice also, but unfortunately automatic only... seems like by chassis design it won't ever accomodate a manual.

      @@86drive86 wife loves everything about the mr2 except the exhaust smell... and if we moved to a smog county would be nearly impossible to smog even if I did add better cats... I honestly love auto transmissions... I've owned 4 mr2s, an rx8, a fiero ( v6 ), 240z, 280zx, an 86 ninja 600, a honda f3... I use to drive with a 16 oz to go coffee in the mr2 over the santa cruz mountains daily... driving stick is second nature... however I got a bmw 135 auto ( zf6 ) and tuned it for faster shifts... I think autos are neat... I'd get the emira with the amg I think.. It's a better motor than the 2GR... don't get me wrong.. the 2GR is the best sounding engine to my ears of any car I've heard... but an auto amg making 500 hp with dual clutch with mods would be amazing... but it looks like lotus may have got the auto trans tuning wrong... again porsche is so refined... it seems like the clear winner... oh yeah owned an fr-s for a year but it got rear ended :/ was a handling beast

    Nice car but 6 six figure price tag, with a couple of options, I would go for the Carrera T

      I definitely considered the Carrera T as another alternative choice if I couldn't get the allocation for the 718CGTS. But... slightly less power, and more weight than the 718. And at least another $20K more...

      I ordered mine from Radiator Grille Store (RGS)@@86drive86 . I'm going to have my PPF place them in place. I got the full kit. It's actually a scary how such a small rock can potentially can take out your radiator. I don't even have my car yet but it's only driving from the dealership to the PPF place (which is kind of far) and then they are going right in. The cost of a radiator replacement isn't covered and is very expensive.
