  • Porsche used to be the brand for relatively wealthy enthusiasts who actually drove their cars, unlike your average Ferrari buyer. However, these days it is completely different. Porsche buyers no longer brag about how much they drive their cars but rather brag about their contrast stitching and overpriced paint to sample colour.

    I purchased a new Carrera T recently. I liked the idea of a lightweight 992 with manual transmission. When I mentioned that to the salesguy, he agreed then proceeded to try to shame me into buying every unnecessary weight increasing option on the list. I resisted and have ehded up with a low spec T. It is a wonderful car and I can assure you, i am not embarrassed at all. I am having too much fun driving it to miss leather covered air vents, headlights that do your taxes, rear axle steering, the additional 40 lbs of 18-way adjustable seats. I feel I own a unique 992, unlike most 911 buyers who have loaded theirs with expensive add ons.

      Great choice in car, the T really is the best overall version of the 992. Just a shame that so many on the used market are specced up to the prices of a base GTS, in the uk at least.

    I called Porsche a wannabe Ferrari and that the 911 is no longer a sports car but a GT car and I got a lot of shit for it whenever I bring it up

      Yea and it’s a bad idea for Porsche to do this as Ferrari will forever be far more desirable than a Porsche. They simply won’t be able to compete, even if they use similar business tactics.

      As a Porsche fan I agree. I used to love modern 911s just a couple of years ago. Now I'm all about the classic, 930 and 964.

    Porsche are aware that there's still a core of authentic 911 drivers - those who're after the unique driving dynamics of the car. However, they need to make money, too. They have to cater to the other bunch who don't really know what a 911 is about. Never mind, let's just continue enjoying the drive.

    • @HowToSpec
      @HowToSpec  Місяць тому +1

      I don’t mind if Porsche wants to make cars for people who aren’t enthusiasts. My main issue is that they don’t seem to make any at all.
      It’s all just specs, performance, track times etc. which are important to some degree, but who cares if your GT3 RS has X amount of downforce at 100MPH when all it does is sit in the garage.
      Porsche needs to make a back to basics 911. It would sell unbelievably well, as does anything with a Porsche badge.

    The spec worshipping is INSANE! It didn’t used to be like this, now you have people buying a Base Carrera because it has full leather over a GTS with the standard interior. It’s no longer about the drive, but about the clout.

    Just buy a (used) Cayman/Boxster 981/982(718) and be happy.. Best driving (midengine layout) pure oldskool but still modern Porsche's for affordable reasonable money.. All the rest of the Porsche lineup can be left to the SUV/EV lovers and "special edition" Turbo S GT RS lovers and posers..
    Unfortunately the Cayman/Boxster platform will be sacrficed next year to become EV's as well.. Enjoy the current one while you can..

    • @HowToSpec
      @HowToSpec  Місяць тому +1

      @@inflatable2 Yep, I’ve always said this. The cayman/boxster has always been the Porsche to have. The engine layout of the 911 is objectively flawed.
      The 718 cayman GT4 is just peak Porsche. Anything else is just bought to brag about.
      Yea it is sad that they’re going electric. I just wish Porsche would make a SUPER base version of the new 911. With cloth seats, manual, sub 300HP, no infotainment or fancy assists. Just back to basics motoring in order to compensate for the loss of the Cayman/boxster.
      But nope, Porsche is now no longer for the driving enthusiast as such. It’s for instagramers who just care about the stitching and contrast leather options.

      I don’t see why people pay such outrageous money for the specs anyway.
      All you need is the PCCB, weisach (if available) the buckets and maybe the front lift system. That’s literally it.
      But nope, Porsche buyers MUST have their £9999999999999 contrast leather and optional £50,000 paint job which they could have just spent a few grand on a wrap to replicate.

      @HowToSpec Ferrari superior to Porsche? (Ahem, overpriced Fiat superior to overpriced VW Beetle?) Not with their customer service, reliability records, track performance, ergonomics (especially current infotainment design with entire interior being 1 giant touchscreen) and whatever else I forgot to mention lmao.
      There's no excuse (other than financial one) for what Porsche is doing with their brand image but it doesn't mean we should deny all the engineering that goes into their current products (however unattainable they are) and glorify an even worse offender of even more crimes which was always guilty of them but is still mythologized to the next galaxy and back

    U cant fault them for making cars better then ferrari and lambo then realizing it. Everyone wants a turbo s , gt3, gt3rs .. its called supply a demand. U probably cant even name a single lambo or ferrari road car capable of beating a porsche gt3 or gt3rs around a track. Even the turbo s smokes lambos and ferraris in a straight line until recently when they all went hybrid. Now porsches new 992.2 will probably smoke them all again.
