“I strove to understand her labyrinthine philosophy, the source of her mysterious pain. Everything about her was dark and shrouded, even the way she spoke and the acts she required of me. It took years for me to understand the simple fact that I could never understand Nocturnal. Her mystery was as essential to her as savagery was to Boethiah or treachery was to Molag Bal. To understand Nocturnal is to negate her, to pull back the curtains cloaking her realm of darkness. As much as I loved her, I recognized the futility of unraveling her enigmas.”
That's beautiful...
@@Kyon_V It's from a book in Skyrim! A Daedra-worshipper details her different experiences finding a deity that best suits her worship, and eventually finds that in Azura. It's one of my favorite books in the game; I recommend you give it a read :)
@@hylianexpected1171 I will for sure
Forgive me but I read this beautiful passage in Drew’s voice if I’m being honest.
treachery is Mephala’s sphere but i get you
Sithis: is the darkness of nothing where light doesn’t exist.
Nocturnal: is the shadows hidden from the light of creation
My best way of explaining the two
Namira: Is the darkness where everything you're grossed out by lives
Vaermina: Is the darkness where everything that terrifies you lives.
Nocturnal: I'm not like other daedric princes.
That one girl we all dated at one time or another.
She's built different
@@yassine_elm1344 she be having that plunging neckline 💋💋💋💅💅💅
The whole nightingales thing i think is kinda like the gray fox curse in a way, where you do become a great renowned thief with great respect within the guild, but your service to nocturnal and your eternal presence in the shadows giving luck to your comrades is entirely unknown to everyone
Not eternal, but only for a finite term of service, iirc. Everything is transactional with Nocturnal.
@@ElectromagNick a nightingale offers their soul, once they die they get her realm as the afterlife
It's service to her, but in a way also part of the reward for serving if they love their craft
I am demanding a Daedrologist character build immediately.
last time i was this early talos was still considered a god
first time you were this early he wasnt yet :P
You must be early all the time then. Unless you’re a high elf.
@Compassionate Predator I dont think ye read what he said properly there kidda
Almighty Talos will send his avatar to crush the Elven menace
The stormcloaks would like to know your location
OMG Look it's DREW! The Daedrologist! He has a face reveal, when legend says he is secretive on his identity!
It's a lie. He's wearing the Masque of Clavicus Vile. We still don't know what he looks like :p
Plot twist they’re all the same guy
Nah it's all miiaq the liar in a few skin suits
Curt Clark hahahaha
Wirr Ling .... THE COWL! OF NOCTURNAL
Nocturnal is mystery, she has a purpose for her actions but no matter what anyone thinks it will always remain a mystery. She is evil for a purpose, good for a purpose, deceptive for a purpose, neutral for a purpose, but what that purpose is shall always remain unknown.
Her darkness is the literal "shadow stuff", the blackness that becomes a living thing born from something so conceptual and abstract as the absence of light. The idea itself is a paradox, a thing that is and isn't at the same time.
Namira's "darkness" is nothing but entropy. The decay that sets upon everything, the absolute destruction that culminates into non-existence. She is responsible for the final death of anything and leads it into the void, to Sithis.
Pretty sure I learn more from these podcasts than I do at school.
yo that is tru
Righttt school has been gettin on my nerves. Teaching all this propaganda and bull
@Wirr Ling if I wasn’t paying attention I wouldn’t even be aware of the propaganda and bias😉
Sorry I’ve been listening to the podcast on my phone instead of UA-cam and have forgotten to like. I’m literally going through your videos and making sure everyone has a like
You can buy an SAT prepbook and that teaches you more than school
The Thieves Guild is better Oblivion when they were at least partly about helping the beggars, which grants them a kind of nobility.
Oblivion guilds had class no lie
Capital.
*CAPITAL!*
Stealth archer is AWESOME in Skyrim.
Nocturnal is fair but with heavy emphasis on her being fair in comparison to the rest of the daedric princes.
She also seems like a motherly type but one that trusts in the concept of Tough love.
one of the few daedra you could talk to without incurring immediate consequences for the fact she's now aware of your existence like for example Molag Baal or Boethiah.
(edit misspellings)
It's also interesting to compare her to Clavicus Vile. Worshippers of both of these Daedra often come seeking an exchange or a deal. Vile is very known to twist these dealings, often for sadistic purposes, whereas Nocturnal often seems to provide a clear, debateably fair deal.
@@euanprior1798 honestly i would say it's easier to get a fair deal out of vile than nocturnal
Nocturnal doesn't seen to make fine prints, she is very upfront but at the same time she makes it clear that she gets the better part of the deal. Where with vile there is a lot of stuff that is open for interpretation and debate, the whole thing with vile is that he can be outsmarted in his dealings (which is very much the point of him), whereas nocturnal does not bargain and doesn't get played
Thought Dump:
Does the Skeleton Key work the other way? Could you use the key to lock things away? The close and block passages? That might be too OP. Why is 'opening' and 'revealing' unique to Nocturnal? Or if the key was stolen from Azura maybe that's more fitting because she was given the secrets of Nirni so the key would reveal just like a secret does.
My guess is yes. Given what happened with mercer frey in skyrim, i dont see why the key couldn't also keep things locked up
Every single episode is a solid hit you guys work really hard on these, and I appreciate it. I hope you guys make more videos on aedra and daedra like these, or any other topic.
I love the amount of memes and jokes in this podcast.
"Your the Grey Fox.. I'll make Captain for this!".
Me: I thought you were already the captain of the Guard XD.
The Skeleton Key is really only limited by the scope of imagination of whomever possesses it.
And the programmers
@Mason S. woooosh
Kinda wish that you were able to open doors into oblivion with the skeleton key instead of it just being a neat lockpick...
Elder scrolls are just the game files in physical form in game change my mind
The problem with this theory is that people don't turn blind from reading game files.
@Compassionate Predator This has nothing to do with politics.
Compassionate Predator what is “woke” about elder scrolls? Being able to have a gay relationship?
Compassionate Predator that doesn’t answer my question at all. What does that have to do with TES? A game that had its last major release a decade ago.
Compassionate Predator can you though? It series full of choice, anything “woke” will be entirely up to you.
Thank God I needed this, now work won't be nearly as bad, much love, keep up the amazing work.
"Who plays a Stealth Archer? No, one."
Uh...I played a Stealth Archer. I was Death and no one could touch me. As I was the shadows.
@Bitter Butter it's an r/whoosh
I love stealth archery it's the most fun form like there is nothing more amusing and hilarious than slowly picking off an entire room full of enemies that haven't even detected you yet bc you have good stealth, a hiding spot, and a strong archery stat fjdnndnd
Stealth Archer is where it’s aaaat, peoples.
I wouldnt say she's a evil god per say. She cares purely about her own gain, wether that alings with your goals or not. I think that's just purely neutral, or chaotic neutral at least.
That's rather the point of her. She's the Daedric Prince of Shadow, of secrets and mysteries, but also of the safety and security of the dark.
She's not like Namira, who focuses on the ugliness and depravity that takes place in the dark. As you said, she's neutral. She'll conceal you, even make you lucky, if you're respectful towards her and her sphere. And she doesn't care about worship, which I think is neat.
Frankly, I don't know why the Dunmer dont have her as one of the Good Daedra, but that's probably just because I don't have the mindset to appreciate murder or betrayal.
@@ingonyama70 the dunmer don't have her as a "good daedra" because she didn't take part in their exodus from the aldmer, the good daedra are very much not good but the dunmer give them said title because they directly benefited from those three princes
I think she’s more neutral with heavy leanings towards evil. It’s just all about what she will gain by it. So she will help people because it helps her but at the same time if the timing is right and the opatunity good she will try to conquer the world As well (which let’s be honest it was perfect timing in eso, she just got unlucky do to that dues ex of a curse walking around, can’t prepare for a guy you can’t remember). So ya when it comes to deadra she’s by far the most nutral, because remember even the good deadra do bad things (lookin at you maridia) because they don’t live by our rules but their own.
Well now I have the mental image of Mercer shoving the key up his backdoor stuck in my head, so thanks for that.
Lord Sheo would add cheese just for fun
@@royalty843 oh dear God why😦
It's either cheese or an argonian lung, maybe just maybe a pot full of cabbage..your call
@@royalty843 what about a licked argonian spear?
0:54 “The Prince of Darkness” I just started laughing cos I just began to imagine Ozzy Osbourne in Nocturnals plunging V-line robes lmao 🤦♂️😂
At 38:56 Drew said "Azura is responsible" and my dog (a white American bulldog boxer mix with two brindle markings on her back that look like a star and a moon) named Azura jumped up on me knocked my phone down and just stared at it like how dare you blame her lmao
Hircine shoud be also a daedra/patron of sport and competition.
Change my mind.
@@kamrynturner5232 well, olympics in the ancient times were more brutal, plus, hunting is already a sport.
I wish you'd give Namira some time in the spotlight.
She's a fascinating deadra but there seems to be very little lore about her.
There being different kinds of "Darkness" and she seems to be more connected to Sithis than the other princes. I need to know more! :P
Speculation on Namira is welcome here
@@absintheminded8466 Absolutely. The whole Fudgemuppet tram usually have some pretty insightful theories.
Discount Nurgle should do more with that 'cause she kinda sucks currently. Worst part is that both Peryite and Namira could go full Plaguefather but neither of them every do; hell, the damn Sload do more Nurgle stuff than the literal gods of sickness and decay!
Just watched the episode on Namira and was kinda disappointed that she became just another interpretation of "Life and Death" Deadra. That's the thing that bugs me about half the Daedric Princes, some of their spheres overlap too much and while the famous ones like Mehrunes Dagon have all this lore to digest, the lesser known ones get left behind.
Personally, I like to interpret Namira's want for revulsion to be more revenge centric. Nocturnal may be the Lady of petty Thieves and vague something or other, but Namira is what goes bump in the night. Hircine wants mortals to duke it out in fair contests of survival, but Namira gives no such quarter. Spiders, rats and other vermin will wait until you enter their territory before they overwhelm you with their numbers, and ensure you fear the dark. Peryite holds dominion over disease, but he does so in a way that culls the weak, whereas Namira would rather her followers spread plagues that ravage their oppressors in a slow agonizing march towards death. I could see Namira holding sway over the undead, such as Zombies or Wraiths, as mortals offer their soul to haunt their enemies after death, and become a blight upon those who've wronged them.
As far as I remember for the Grey Cowl's curse.
It became mentally impossible for anyone to associate "the stranger" with the Grey Fox.
He could be holding the Grey Cowl in his hands, waving it in front of the guards.
But they would just be unable to register what is being said, just like his name it would be forgotten.
What I like about the Nocturnals cow is that when you have the armor of pelinal whitestrake you can put the cow on do something like kill somebody or take somebodies gold you can take that cow off and you can still put the armor on
I'm a Nocturnal simp and I have no shame.
Sunday's are the best Elder Scrolls podcast and football can't get any better than that😝
I spent the first ten minutes trying to figure out what this "great cow" was... Still loved it!
These videos really help the game come to life during recent modded playthroughs.
Scott, you said I will be famous if we colab but everyone unsubscribtioned!
Bro I was subbed to your channel before the colab, your awesome
You need to do more hugging animations bro.
Do tes series of animation and you will surpass them.
I love Nocturnal. she is, from what I noticed, among the more benevolent daedra, despite not being part of the 3 the Dunmer revere, though to be fair she doesn't care for it, she doesn't care about being worshipped nor does she oppose it. she protects those who use the shadows.
The talk about Elsweyr makes me want a TES VI special podcast...you should also do an episode on Vampires and Werecreatures for Halloween
"It kind of makes me think that all the daedra are ur-dra" 52:11 Careful, talk like that enough and you'll turn into Mankar Camoran
Good show chaps, thanks for the entertainment. Top notch as always
Existance: things be locked
Nocturnal: challenge accepted
Becoming a nightingale is a bad deal in the long term, the appeal is mostly while you live, you’ll be the luckiest, richest, most skilled of your profession, able to enjoy the luxuries of excess and notoriety.
Sure, to someone like the Dragonborn who is destined for half those things already, it’s a generally a pretty bad deal. But for your run of the mill thief I’d imagine it’s quite the enticing offer. You have to wonder how many nightingales tried to cheat Nocturnal and break their end of the bargain when the time came. I’d imagine “time out” would be an understatement.
I feel that the cursing of the gray cowl could be both punishment and a gift. While yes she's proud that a thief was talented enough to rob her blind, but at the same time you in a way committed a crime against her.
Talking about the Skeleton Key’s “potential”, Michael- “Butt, seriously”. 😂🤣🤘🏼 I’m so sophomoric.
The chemistry in this episode was awesome, thanks haha
you guys are getting me through college in the US. thank you.
I would love to see you guys do a possible collaboration with Lady Of Scrolls. Her content is absolutely fantastic
If i remember right they will not always guard there just for so long we saw one ghost move on from guarding that area after the key was return but they might be there for a while though.
Drew: “...who plays a stealth archer? Nobody.”

Stealth archer one of my fav ways to play
It's literally the only type of character I play 😔
@@evintyde nothing wrong with tht :)

I know. I was going along with the joke.
Azura and the Khajiit: most cats are crepescular hunters. They hunt during the early morning and twilight.
Id love to see a podcast about Daggerfall or Arena. It could be lore, game mechanics etc.
when Scott said he WOULDN'T smash, I lost it.
These podcasts are so interesting, really cool just to listen to/watch when I am gaming
I just thought of something in og Skyrim Nocturnal is the only daedric prince we interact with face to face in the mortal realm.
All the other princes talk to us through their shrine statues or artifacts and even Hermaus mora before dragon born dlc is nothing but disembodied voice and a wretched abyss.
Theoretically when nocturnal spears you could touch her
it makes sense not to want to give up your DIVINE powers, sooo i think that brings up an important question. What deadric princes CAN be considered "good", "fair", or "not evil, solely on the question of giving up DIVINE power for whatever reason.
Evergloam looks awesome as an afterlife. If you can get past the stink, the Fields of Regret seem pretty cool too. Just remember not to die IN Evergloam because your soul could end up binded to a scarecrow 🙀
Nocturnal gets power through not regular worship but through transaction. Unlike most of prayer she is the tough mother pushes you to the limits, even in the shadows. If you are worthy? She gives you luck, but as Karliah says, "Walk with the Shadows."
So you pledge it is both life and death, then in death you are her dark angel shadowing her patrons and guarding the Twilight Sceptecor. Protecting the conduit to Evergloom.
That is the price of the transaction for the conduit luck! For her a devoted agent of shadow.
Maybe the cowl has a SEP field around it, then it would be visible but not noticed!
I always wonder what her realm of evergloam would be like, would a thief like living there or not? I also would not say she is evil per se just quite self motivated. If you are a thief you do need her on side though, its crucial.
A little detail you missed when discussing the deal to be a nightingale is that it's not eternal watch in the sepulchre. As mentioned by gallus you stand vigil until the terms of your agreement are met at which point you basically "retire(?)" To the evergloam. It would also seem they are able to do things and maintain sentience while there as gallus tells karliah "once the terms of your agreement have been met we will embrace once again." So I'd say the thieves actually get rewarded years of being a master thief and eternity in a thief paradise with the capability to interact and sway events in the mortal realm for 20 years of undead servitude (gallus stood vigil for 20 yrs)
I play as a stealth Archer mainly because it's more fun whenever you hit a guy with an arrow and they're like wait who did that?
Im older than you 3 but Drew cracked me up being so much more mature than I am and also being so professional when the other two are laughing about buttholes. "Compose yourselves, gentleman" had me laughing out loud.
*sighs in stealth archer* :p
Been keen as fuck for this one
Hope you guys keep doing these I'm enjoying the hell out of them
Big mysterious shadowy mommy milkers she's the btgg of elder scrolls
She's a prince so was she a male and he became a woman?
@@harukatakahashi8822 I mean technically they're gender(less or fluid) as gods so if she always chooses a female form to appear as it's probably her preferred state.
@@cy3125 would you date her if she took the form of a woman
I’d follow Nocturnal all day since you can get the best outfit in Tamriel
This extremely random but I would love to see you guys do a shield vamp build. I recently made one that’s kind of a commander/summoner tank but I’m very curious to see how y’all would build around a vamp with a shield.
The thing with Thane Ice-hammer killing the werewolf’s is that to Hircine it’s like he just slaughter and skinned a bunch of his dogs.
Theres a time when you talk to the grey fox where he tells you he said his real name to you multiple times but you don't remember
Whenever I think of nocturnal I think of the morogan fron Celtic mythology
The curse on the cowl isn't really much a curse if you're a thief or anything similar. You should see being erased from history as the best thing that could happen to you. Heroes of darkness aren't supposed to be remembered. They're supposed to get away with crimes which is what the curse helps with.
I would say that's not true. Maybe your average run of the mill thief simply wants to get away with their crimes without getting caught, but the echelon of thief thats going to be getting the cowl are after fame as much as fortune. I mean, imagine a legendary thief like Rahjin. If he has the cowl no one knows about him, he doesn't become a god, nothing.
Id disagree that not being remembered is what all thieves want. Legacies are important to people and the greatest thieves in the world are *famous* for getting away with it.
Love these podcasts pls keep doing them!
I'm Scott from MudgeFuppet and I approve this video
Scott the deal always favor the daedra, the only exception i can think of is malacath. Who looks after his poeple in his realm, and maybe azura.
the discussion around the creation of the daedric princes made me think how interesting to see the creation of another prince... maybe the last db, having sworn their soul to so many, and to be prized by akatosh (& talos?)... having slain alduin there would be revelry surrounding them following esv, giving rise to the idea that daedra need to be worshiped to have power & influence (or am i thinking of another type of gods)...
idk, yet another crackpot theory.
Nocturnal is not as evil as you guys say. She hasn't entertained mass murder nor spends her time taking souls from mortals for sport. I like her transactional approach. The First Darkness is selfish but logical and fair in her deals with mortals. Is any Daedric prince good [liberal use of the word]...maybe Dibella? We should delve deeper into her mystery, her lore, and her influence on the world. What group of people has she negatively impacted? Remember, shadow is no more evil than light is good.
Oh nocturnal. My 2nd favorite prince.
This is random and completely off topic of the video, but has anyone seriously considered the possibility of serana making a return in eso 6?
I mean it makes sense.
They're probably going to canon her not being cured.
And that could explain the choice of non marriage of a beloved npc.
So the dragonborn can dissapear, and serana will still be around, telling tales of the last dragonborn.
Maybe we get a quest or two with her.
Just a thought.
Nocturnal is the only Daedric Prince that appears in what it's like to be a completely human looking form, in Skyrim.
I say Nocturnal is a mortal. That's why she needs the Skeleton Key, she's not a spirit but a powerful mage.
Hey guys, It’s been a while since your last build. I had an idea for a new build when i was watching Ghost Rider 2. The ghost rider is actually Zarathos a fallen angel that was corrupted by Satan. I tried to make it myself as a squeleton race with a dark aura/armor but i can’t get satisfied with it. I thought you guys could maybe look into it and come up with a build and story line that everyone could enjoy playing.
Thank you guys!! Lots of love for your work
Keep up the great work guys!
She wants to unlock all doors because she's a cat, NO MORE CLOSED DOORS
You don't guard the key for all time, you guard it until she calls you to join the shadows.
Nocturnal - The Completionist of Mundus, Nirn, and Oblivion...or at least she wants to be...
There is something that I had a question about due to me playing the Switch version of Skyrim. The Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda is an item that is obtainable in the Switch version of Skyrim and it has a ton of lore behind to its existence and it only having Hylians (humans) be able to wield it if they are pure of heart (I.E. Link or Zelda). How is the Master Sword able to be wielded by elves, Kajit, or Argonians if it is the actual Master Sword as the wiki pages imply?
What would happen to the lore of the Elder Scrolls series if the lore behind the Switch exclusive items are considered canon to the Elder Scrolls franchise?
Podcast with THE BOYSSSSS
I honestly thought you were saying that someone stole Nocturnal's cow - bit weird, but thought they were doing a Greek god thing. Looking at the cowl for 5 minutes, it suddenly struck me. D'oh.
This was awesome. Do you think you could do something on the Sinetral elves and ancient Yokuda?
Guys, you are very hard on Nocturnal. You all seem to measure your motives differently than the other daedra. How about a fair shake for her? Nocturnal keeps her word, she doesn't murder her charges, and she requires little from those who worship her.
Nocturnal is probably the most inept and unaware of the Daedra... Who else allows people to steal their cowl, skeleton key, and an eye? Yikes...
Don't forget a bow.
😅
i like to compare the cowl to medusas curse. is it really a curse? or a blessing in disguise? medusa was so beautiful that men would attack her. she no longer lives in fear. the same could be said about the cowl - is the anonymity really a curse? for a master thief?
maybe “the god of concealment” isa good way to think of her.
Wasn't there a rule for the Cowl that your bounties go from grey fox on your character if you take off the cowl while not hidden?
The answer to who is hotter (Azura or Nocturnal) is..... Mehrunes Dagon
I'd only become a nightingale if I was given 100% confirmation that I'd be turned into a six-armed Gloam Knight upon death.
Such an annoying Daedric Prince, She always steals my precious Sword of Jyggalag...
@Compassionate Predator ...
(It's called the Sword of Jyggalag)
If you pull a fast one on her that’s not luck. That’s skill and guile.
Omg you guys are around my age... for some reason i thought yall were older lol 🤣
I have serious Drew hair envy.
Come to Namira children
Nightingale theres only 3 at a time.I think there should a small handful at a time. like sometimes theres only 3 sometimes 5 or 7 maybe 9.I think 9 should be max at a time. Maybe they come in 3 in a group sometimes only 2 but there can be 7. Maybe there was 9 but 2 died. Each time it different numbers. I think the number at a time should be unknown cus they roam in the shadows keeping number 3 each time I think that number could be figured out.
Love the implication that the Skeleton Key gives you unlimited potential but only if you wear it is a butt plug
