After you beat the Summerset DLC in ESO and you’re celebrating in the Alinor castle, head up to the top right balcony and find the glowing note sitting on the bench. Alternatively, look up the lore book “Words of the Fallen” on UESP. Very sad but interesting stuff.
"Words of the Fallen by Darien Gautier The last words from a golden knight Never trust a Daedric Prince. If there's anything I learned from all this, that's it in a nutshell. I used to think I had a purpose, a part to play in the grand scheme of things. I suppose I did, sort of, but the way things turned out, it wasn't at all the way I imagined. Meridia said I was her vessel. I guess my fate was sealed from the moment she brought me into existence. Now, here I am, back in the Colored Rooms. I thought that when I gave my energy to restore the sword-and I did that for my friend, not for Meridia-I thought that was the end of me. I'm back, though, but this time is different. My light, it's fading. I can feel the darkness getting closer, pressing in. I expect that once the light goes out, that will be the end. I need to tell you something about Meridia. She's a deceiver. She promised that if I served her faithfully, I'd earn my freedom. She never told me that freedom was just another word for the void. Don't trust her. Don't trust any of the Daedric Princes. Not ever. I've found peace though. Meridia gave me a chance to see the world, and those I care about, one last time. To save those I loved. I'm grateful for that, at least. I wish I had a chance to say goodbye to everyone. To Skordo. To Gabrielle. Gods, I'll miss them. But most of all, . I don't know if they'll understand how much they truly meant to me. Perhaps we'll see each other again, in another place, another time. I probably won't be the version of myself that's writing these words, though. That me will be gone. I can live with that. I only wish I could have spent more time with everybody. Had a few more adventures. Ordered those drinks like we always talked about. I hope my friends find peace, happiness, and love. They deserve what I could never have. If anyone ever finds this book, know that I will never forget those I named herein. And, if you find them, and I pray that you do, tell them this. Protect the ones you love. Hold them close. Cherish their every moment. Make them laugh, and laugh with them. Smile together and never, ever, forget that the moments you have are so very precious. Oh, and tell them not to forget me, either. I mean, I am a legend, as far as I know. The polite, handsome, and humble knight, Darien Gautier"
meridia lore has always been my jam - doesn’t help that I’m also an aetherius and ayleid fan boy. There’s just so much cool depth that can be added in future installments about that whereas the daedra have had so much development already.

Maybe ring of Khajitii is originally a Meridia item - it bends light to help obscure the holder right??? Fits with Meridia - Perhaps it has been stolen / traded to be acquired by Mephala.
I think the deadric artifacts are just another tool in their feuds. Meridia hates Molag Bal, who is the progenitor of at least one type of undead. Dawnbreaker is likely her answer.
I like how all the dark elf daedric princes and princesses symbolize revolution and overcoming. Like mehrenes is like what everyone wants to be become and molag boal is just someone to overcome. Like hermos mehorra is like someone with a eye for beauty but what he knows makes him ugly like all of it is just amazing how it’s interesting like the daedric princes are about physical aspects while aedric I believe are abstract I don’t know just love it.
You all heard it! My realm is cool! The perfect complement. My home is like New Zealand with all the bio domes and nothing like Old Zealand. It's also like a perversion of Eden.
Meridia can alter the flow of time. The Dragon as incarnation of time, where Meridia can traverse the rainbow road which is prismatic light itself, and she has the force of will to stretch and compress the beast itself. Or at least according to a certain tome. Elder Scrolls Physics.
Always saw Meridia as being the other half/mirror of Nocturnal. Meridia is the daughter of Magnus, as Nocturnal seems to have spawned from Namira, Meridia has a sense of greed and obediance, as Nocturnal is a theif who's order do her whim or be cursed with bad luck. Their realms are also complete opposites, one being complete darkness where you can't make out anything and the other where you can see so many colours it could be overwhelming
@@Salvadorzin1 Ye, she spawned from the void and she thought herself to be Namira, it seems that she was spawned from the void that is namira, not explicityly her child but a by product from the void
Hi Scott 👋 I noticed you’ve been wearing your glasses a lot more often. When I was going though school (of all grades) I got picked on a lot for wearing my glasses. It caused me to stop wearing them and I spent the majority of my high school career walking around legally blind and not being able to read the white boards... I don’t know your reasoning for having them on again but regardless I appreciate you and your decision to wear them in front of millions of eyes 🤓 thank you all and keep on being the best nerd inspiration out there!
Meridia makes perfect sense if you consider her aspect is light and life. This is why she hates undeath. It is aborrant to everything she values. She doesn't hate undeath because it mostly equates to soul slavery. But because the energies involved are fundamentally repugnant to her. Slavery of any kind is fine to Meridia. It is the life/unlife question that decides her. She no doubt opposes Molag for the very reason that Molag is perfectly fine with unlife as slavery and as such is given to inflicting it as often as possible.
The ayleid armor/designs from Beyond Skyrim reminds me of Aztec motifs. Which fit since human sacrifice was common in that ancient culture, and one of their primary deities was tired to the sun (among other things)
I see Meridia as a sort of bipolar being, which explains both her affinity to help mortals and her alliance with the Ayleids. She can be loving and generous, or she can be vicious and heartless. In the games we mostly see her good side, but there is a dark side too
Why? Aylieds were mortals too. They venerated her. Why are they 'evil'? They were a great race for a time, until they became too hedonistic through worship of Deadra (bad deadra you may say). Despite the Aylieds enslaving men, they are not too disimilar to Dunmer with Agonians... Think the empire hasn't done evil things throughout the ages?
@@jamiemckell34 Typically, Ayleid kingdoms where the most malevolent. Daedric Princes were worshipped also proved to exhibit the worst treatment of their slaves. Various settlements became famous for their particular, elaborate method of torturing their slaves, such as "wailing wheels", "gut gardens", "flesh-sculptures", and forced ingestion of hallucinogenic drugs, as well as nighttime "tiger sport", which involved the immolation of human children.
@@freshandzesty1111 Yeah I'm aware of that... However, different Aylied cities (or holds of you like) had different ways of doing things and even venerated different gods. (I think this is a reference / inspiration to a time in ancient Rome, where they would sacrifice virgins to lions in the colluseum before fights... Its a philosophical question about how people can turn to evilness to fulfill themselves when they have an overabundance.) Those stories of what they did are different customs at different cities, not all Aylied people / cities. They were at one time a great civilisation, which can be seen from their ruins and armour (Crown of Nenalata etc). I get it the majority became bad, under the influence of some of the worse deadra... the point I'm making is Meridia isn't necessarily supporting their evil tendencies. She may not support them, or perhaps more likely be indifferent. To me, it makes more sense that Meridia was an early patron of the Aylieds, deeply embedded in much of their culture, but some abandoned her worship for deals with other deadra, who provided more power (& corruption) in return for souls and sadistic culture.
I think the thing is Meridia understands what she is just like the dremora. In eso for instance, dremora explain to you, that human concepts like good and evil mesns absolutely nothing to them. They do what interests them and manipulates accordingly. It's survival to them. A power struggle on any lvl is a struggle worth being in. I think Meridia thinks like this too... She really doesn't care about human understanding because humans don't understand enough to have an opinion. All she needs humans to understand is to she chooses to help humans. However, molag bal suggest humans under his rule would of been better against others we know nothing about. Humans are just chess pieces to them.. WHY this is? I have no idea.
Hmm now I'm thinking of an alliance between Meridia, Molag Bal and Jyggalag. All three are opposed to free will. But in different ways. If they were trying to impose some kind of order. Of course all three are very different aspects of order, but something like The Clavicus, Mephala and Notcurnal pact in ESO. And obviously we know they'll be plotting behind each others backs. But it would be a cool thing to see IMO. A story based on them trying to impose order and how they'd screw eachother over to be the winner.
One can argue that light in itself is good, as it is part of creation, but it can be used to evil ends, like a knife. A knife can be used chop ingredients for food preparation, or can be used to hurt or kill people for selfish ends. So too, can light be used, like what was done to save the Summerset Isle, or what the Ayelid did to the Nedes.
none of the daedra are inherently evil except for molag bal and namira, because the domains they represent are entirely negative aspects of humanity, while all the other daedra's realms have both positive and negative attributes. even mehrunes dagon's domain of ambition and revolution enables things like the overthrow of the Aelid empire, even though they didnt consciously worship him
In my headcanon I blur the line between aedra and Daedra and Meridia is dating Stendar. Cuz, theyre perfect for each other. Also, malacath is recognized as Trinimac, and one of the Divines. Also, hircine and kyne, are obviously bros, Both are obviously based on cernunos
Pro Tip: If you flag Meridia's Beacon as an Artifact instead of a Gem in TES5Edit (or Creation Kit if you're a masochist), it will have a new icon in SkyUI and you'll never _accidentally_ take it again.
@@brucebarkerkodiak no he is better because he is straightforward about his domain. 5 of the 6 worst I mentioned are about trickery and deceit. Peryite is on there as least worst of them because he is about spreading disease that doesn't even have a decent benefit. Vampirism is at least useful. Also in Skyrim your interaction with Molag Bal mentions dominating/destroying your enemies, basically as long as your powerful in your own right he will help you and somewhat respect you and you make a pact with him it will be honored fairly without deceit.
@@morrigankasa570 Yeah Molag Bal is real straightforward about his position as daedric lord of domination, slavery, and rape. All of the daedric princes are indifferent to human lives, and most of them rely on trickery to do anything on Nirn. Sanguine and Sheogorath both trick you in Skyrim for example, and it can be argued that Sheogorath is definitely evil for spreading his madness and chaos. It's easy to be distracted by the coolness of their artifacts and their preference for you in the games but that's not what decides a good daedra, if such a thing really exist at all. The best daedra, I think, are the ones most distanced from the affairs of mortals. This would be Azura, Meridia, maybe Malacath and Hircine. They aren't constantly trying to enact destructive change like Molag Bol, Mehrunes Dagon, Mephala or Boeithiah. Honorary mention goes out to Hermaeus Mora, he's kinda ruthless but mostly a harmless bookworm when it comes down to it.
For Meridia's feelings of elves vs men, I think that Scott has it right: she doesn't really care one way or another except when only one side worships her. The Ayelids had long worshipped her, so when they asked for her help, she did. Yet a few eras later, she provides her weapon to the Dragonborn before the Vampire Crisis started. Also, is it possible that there is more to her than we think, we just haven't learned what more there is to Meridia? The ones we know and understand best are those who have had a lot of attention paid to them either through major quests or books: Sheogorath/Jyggalag, Mehrunes Dagon, Molag Bal, Hircine and Hermaeus Mora. By Oblivion, we know more about Azura, Malacath, Clavicus Vile, Vaermina and Boethiah than we do Meridia (or for that matter, Nocturnal.) We don't even know how Sheogorath messed with those two in The Accords of Madness
No it isn't. Either you suffered some sort of glitch or modding problems. Falling out of the sky post-battle or shouting the sword through the floor are the only ones I've seen and saving and using the unofficial patch solve that.
Build idea even though I don’t think you do them anymore, like a divine assassin, think sneak, archery, maybe one handed, sun fire/healing/necromage resto, fire destro, basically think dark crusader but if the dark crusader was a sneak archer and not a battlemage
Scott, I'm into religious academia. Meridia is unlike Talos or, to a lesser degree, unlike Vivec. They're so grand that they lose their ego and personality. Their minds become decentralized in a way. Meridia is very sober and involved. I think that a tier list for morality is in order. This will widely be regarded as a good move and may spark something great.
6:32 - It might be an attempt to rationalize a system that's a bit inconsistent but the way I've always seen it is that the Aedra are those spirits who gave up most of their power and completely melded with Mundus, being unable to separate themselves form the realm at all. They are Mundus and Mundus is them. The fate of Mundus is their fate and their fate is the fate of Mundus. The Magna Ge are those spirits who gave up some of their power but fled before they completely melded with Mundus and so retained not only some of their power but their independence from Mundus. The fate of Mundus is not necessarily their fate at all. And then the Daedra are those spirits who gave up none of their power for the creation of Mundus and so retain their full power and their complete independence from Mundus. So not only is the fate of Mundus not their fate, but they are as powerful as they ever were. And so this way you essentially have these three categories of et'Ada: -Aedra: Gave up power and tied to Mundus. -Magna Ge: Gave up power but not tied to Mundus. -Daedra: Didn't give up power and not tied to Mundus. Under this system Malacath would technically be part of the Aedra and Meridia would technically be part of the Magna Ge. But both are considered Daedric Princes, I think, because they act like them. In that they have these realms of Oblivion which they rule over which are reflections of themselves. And they interact with mortals sometimes, etc. But I think that's, essentially, a classification error by the people of Tamriel who put them in the wrong categories because they SEEM like Daedra to them (since they act the same way) even if they really aren't.
And, crucially, that "being tied to Mundus" thing also involves following its rules. So the Daedra and Magna Ge are free to break the rules as much as they want, but the Aedra (with the exception of Trinimac who became corrupted) don't break the rules. So they don't generally manifest in the world anymore.
Just one more thing about this: In real-life there were cultures that called bats "birds" and dolphins "fish." Even though both dolphins and bats are mammals. Because they classified them based on what they DO not what they are. I think the same thing is true for Malacath and Meridia. They're classified as Daedra because they act like Daedra not because they ARE Daedra.
I think it would be a good idea to have her character while being manipulative and vain it’s because she is very specific about her words and meanings which most people (except her followers) do not even realize
I frequently play a necromancer in ES; So when in Skyrim she plucked me up and suspense 2000 feet off the ground and told me I *was* going to purify her temple for her, it was less divine intervention and more being a teen of color being caught by the cops and forced to help on their latest sting. Lifts-Her-Tail: I am a weapon wielded by the glorious hand of the Lady of Light! Soon the wicked shall feel her wrath!
Crantius Colto: Plenty of time, my sweet. Plenty of time.
END OF ACT I, SCENE I.
There will not be an act two as Crantius Colto was slain for his refusal to pledge loyalty to Meridia.
Ahh yes another good podcast! Meridian is very interesting and I never knew about the stuff with her and the kahjit but it reminded of miq the liar and I definitely think you guys should do a podcast on him!!
Yes mortals... OBEY!!!
And also a new hand touches the beacon
Just got into ESO a couple weeks ago. Darien is a Breton - He is from Camlorn in Glenumbra.
Oh ,child. In Summerset he says something completely different.
After you beat the Summerset DLC in ESO and you’re celebrating in the Alinor castle, head up to the top right balcony and find the glowing note sitting on the bench.
Alternatively, look up the lore book “Words of the Fallen” on UESP.
Very sad but interesting stuff.
"Words of the Fallen
by Darien Gautier
The last words from a golden knight
Never trust a Daedric Prince.
The polite, handsome, and humble knight,
Darien Gautier"

beautiful episode today, I’m glad to be alive in the exact same period of time as the fudge muppets and TES. 💗
meridia lore has always been my jam - doesn’t help that I’m also an aetherius and ayleid fan boy. There’s just so much cool depth that can be added in future installments about that whereas the daedra have had so much development already.
Meridia is a very cool daedric prince for me, unfortunately I enjoy being an undead vampire too so she might not think I’m very cool. Anyway, thanks for another one Fudgemuppet! Your channel has really helped me during the pandemic, during depression and on great days as well. I’m sure that I’ve not been the first nor the last to point this out but thanks for creating so much Elder Scrolls content.
Around level 5, give or take, for 11 characters while testing mods and load order: A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON
Finally playing as my actual character who is gonna worship Meridia with Wintersun: *crickets*
The only daedric prince that generally cares about their followers is Azura.
But you shouldn't betray her in any way... no one can escape her vengeance, so yeah she respects her followers compared to the other princes but she's not forgiving x)

I know I'm late to the episode but I'm so glad they're doing it on Meridia, hands down my favourite Daedric Prince!!!
My favorite Prince!

The Dragon as incarnation of time, where Meridia can traverse the rainbow road which is prismatic light itself, and she has the force of will to stretch and compress the beast itself.
Or at least according to a certain tome.

a fudgemuppet podcast on my day off work!? HOOORAAYYYY like for the video
Nocturnal spawned from void herself. There is lore mentioning that.
She is the most powerful Daedra alongside Jyggalag (before his fall).
@@Salvadorzin1 Ye, she spawned from the void and she thought herself to be Namira, it seems that she was spawned from the void that is namira, not explicityly her child but a by product from the void
@@thatguyfromtheuk9499 gotcha!
This is interesting. I will look into it.
Thanks for this piece of lore. :)
Aren't Nocturnal and Asura thought to be sisters? How does that work?
So... which Illicit Spectra was it that she dealt with? Could it be Mehrunes Dagon, Molag Bal, or both?
Sanguine...illicit is kind of his thing, and she does show a bit of skin in many representations...
Plus Molag Bal also is associated with corruption
Drew played mediator between Scott and Michael for a minute there
I really hope that we got to rescue Darien soon... He owes me a drink dammit
In the games we mostly see her good side, but there is a dark side too
Kinda fits with her previously being a magna-ge and being banished to oblivion or whatever. Like two different mindsets mixed
I’ll never forgive her for what she did to Darien at least Molag Bal awards his followers
Its a philosophical question about how people can turn to evilness to fulfill themselves when they have an overabundance.)
Those stories of what they did are different customs at different cities, not all Aylied people / cities.
To me, it makes more sense that Meridia was an early patron of the Aylieds, deeply embedded in much of their culture, but some abandoned her worship for deals with other deadra, who provided more power (& corruption) in return for souls and sadistic culture.

a new hand touches the beacon
A new dragonborn shoves the beacon up their ass.
HI! I HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE DOING WELL AND ARE STRIVING TO VIBE
Moonsugar helps understand both sides of Aedric/Daedric deities.
Thank you wise teacher
Anyone who complains about Meridia's beacon can go straight to Oblivion. It's one of the coolest introductions to a quest in TES.
Best podcast going 👏
Hmm now I'm thinking of an alliance between Meridia, Molag Bal and Jyggalag. All three are opposed to free will. But in different ways. If they were trying to impose some kind of order. Of course all three are very different aspects of order, but something like The Clavicus, Mephala and Notcurnal pact in ESO. And obviously we know they'll be plotting behind each others backs. But it would be a cool thing to see IMO. A story based on them trying to impose order and how they'd screw eachother over to be the winner.
Light does not equal Good.
absolutely, if you wanna be poetic: Light blinds you as much as darkness.
Hollow Knight demonstrates this.
One can argue that light in itself is good, as it is part of creation, but it can be used to evil ends, like a knife. A knife can be used chop ingredients for food preparation, or can be used to hurt or kill people for selfish ends. So too, can light be used, like what was done to save the Summerset Isle, or what the Ayelid did to the Nedes.
none of the daedra are inherently evil except for molag bal and namira, because the domains they represent are entirely negative aspects of humanity, while all the other daedra's realms have both positive and negative attributes. even mehrunes dagon's domain of ambition and revolution enables things like the overthrow of the Aelid empire, even though they didnt consciously worship him
Reachmen don’t see Namira particularly evil though.
In my headcanon I blur the line between aedra and Daedra and Meridia is dating Stendar. Cuz, theyre perfect for each other. Also, malacath is recognized as Trinimac, and one of the Divines. Also, hircine and kyne, are obviously bros,
Both are obviously based on cernunos
Daedric princes are analogous to corporations in our world. The Aedra charities maybe, relief funds, etc.
You guys should bring back the greatest mortals of all time series
I listen as a podcast but I always remmeber to like the youtube video
Pro Tip: If you flag Meridia's Beacon as an Artifact instead of a Gem in TES5Edit (or Creation Kit if you're a masochist), it will have a new icon in SkyUI and you'll never _accidentally_ take it again.
*A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE LIKE BUTTON*
Ahh Meridia, one word to describe my next character, Wintersun.
You guys should do an episode where in the span of an hour or so, create and write a build.
I'd love to EXPLORE meridia too !😍
I feel the 6 worst Daedra are: Mephala, Boethiah, Vaermina, Nocturnal, Namira, Peryite.
The 6 best are: Hircine, Azura, Malocath, Sheogorath, Sanguine, Molag Bal.
Unless you’re going by khajiit mythology Molag Bal is by far the worst
@@brucebarkerkodiak no he is better because he is straightforward about his domain. 5 of the 6 worst I mentioned are about trickery and deceit. Peryite is on there as least worst of them because he is about spreading disease that doesn't even have a decent benefit. Vampirism is at least useful. Also in Skyrim your interaction with Molag Bal mentions dominating/destroying your enemies, basically as long as your powerful in your own right he will help you and somewhat respect you and you make a pact with him it will be honored fairly without deceit.
@@morrigankasa570 I guest you’re right but I mean he’s the worst as in he’s the most evil
@@brucebarkerkodiak agree to disagree I guess because any domain that uses deceit and trickery I feel is most evil.
This podcast is starting to sound like an Elder Scrolls conversation by the guys at King of the Hill
The like to dislike ratio is insane!! Keep up the good work guys!!
There's a theory on reddit somewhere that Meridia's Sphere is delusional hope. its kinda cool
Necromancy has something to do with the moons and what not as seen with the black soul gems, could have a connection of the void IE absence of life.
I think the Nereverine should return before ES 6 the dunmer have been so down bad recently. they need some help from ol' moon and star
Skyrim Special Edition doesn't even let you find Dawnbreaker cause the quest is bugged. Such a immersive lore and story in that game.

I dread to think what is inside Drew's Poke Ball... If he throws it, and a voice says "A new hand touches the beacon" I'm getting TF out of here. 😂
And so this way you essentially have these three categories of et'Ada:
-Aedra: Gave up power and tied to Mundus.
This is awesome
Michael! I think Mephala told me some lies. She whisperd " Part 11 or I will delete the Atronach Stone."
You must proof her wrong!
:O
It will be Azura as the main daedric prince in Redfall
