After Looking a many so called reviews on fish finders and being disappointed. I am so glad I found your videos . I’ve watched 4 or 5 on this unit and will probably get it now. Thanks for the help.
A feature that is printed on the box that isn't mentioned anywhere is "Sonar history rewind for waypoint marking." I had to contact Garmin Support to get the answer. While in Traditional mode you can hold the Left arrow button and scroll back to through the sonar history and once you find the spot you want to mark hit the check mark button. This will create a waypoint. Very nice feature if you happened to travel past a point you would have liked to mark.
THAT'S what I wanted to know; how to navigate to my favorite spot again. My lake is BIG. Now, I can stop wasting time trolling around hoping I'll get lucky...I'll go FIND FISH. Well done.
I just want to thank you for this video, I learned last night, I got limited crabs today. Very easy and short clear video showed me how to navigate in the fog😅
Very good detailed description of the Garmin Stiker 4. I don't know if you noticed that's what I have on my Kayak. It's a very affordable and solid unit. 👍👍
That was well done man! I need another depth finder for my kayak. I really like my garmin I got for my crappie/catfish boat. Going to check these out! Thanks for sharing!

@Marley Elian thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Marley Elian WTF IT ACTUALLY WORKED! Just hacked my IG login after roughly 30 minutes of using the site. I had to pay 15 $ but definitely worth the price :O Thanks so much, you saved my ass!
Just got one for my boat and so far I love it. I love your videos, subscribed after I watched the first one. One question, how do you have that hooked up that you can use it on AC power to mess with your settings at home as opposed to being out in the boat?
You explain things very well for beginners and pros. I have not seen any tutorial on RANGE. When I am fishing in the sound, the water may be 250 feet- I may want a range of 25 to 75 feet. Any info appreciated! I believe I have watched all your videos re the Garmin 4. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!
You can not specifically save a portion of a route you took yesterday. The best is to save the route as you are going. However the track feature can be used to save the overall track from yesterday
Yes you can, the GPS function is in the unit itself not the transducer. you will get error messages about not having a transducer on startup, but no worry just go to the waypoint map and you will be good

Great videos!! I do have a question about the transducer. I just installed the transducer on my kayak, I have the pointed end facing forward. Is this correct or should square end face forward. Having a heck of a time understanding this striker!! Thank you!!
It could be possible that they are being hidden in noise displayed on the bottom...also if you are using fish ID, it does not always do a great job of picking up fish on the bottom.
You can go in the menu and record a route ...select and follow route. I get this question alot and I need to work on putting the info into video format that's easy to follow.
great vids, just a couple questions im left with. Is it possible to manually enter Lat-Long coordinates into this striker 4? and when navigating using the map, is there any form of a chart showing depths of surrounding areas, channels etc.? thanks for putting out great info
Yes you can manually enter lat and long with this model...You can look on the Garmin website for the instructions, I know you can do it, I just normally don't use this feature. As far as the mapping info, you need to get a higher end model that accepts a SD card with chart plotting such as Navionics. If you need all these features, the Striker 4 is not what you are looking for. Any other questions or if this did not really help, let me know and I can try again
Is your starting location always 'marked' or do you have to set a waypoint at the beginning. Say for example you set out on your kayak from a beach or harbor and when you want to return marine fog has closed in around you and you need to find your way back. This is my biggest concern since we get this a lot in northern california.
It starts recording your path immediately, but it id best to actually mark a point and name it marina before you leave. Also if I was relying on it to get back in fog, I would honestly buy a higher end model with higher end mapping features to ensure a safe return.
Check this video out for all the stats and info ua-cam.com/video/1E17jbK03sI/v-deo.html It would be fine for 200 ft I would probably want a bit bigger screen though if I consistently fished 200+ ft though.
Yes you can use it to navigate to a spot you have been to before. The Striker series does not show you the land maps on the screen. The Quick Draw Contour mapping will show the lake contours as you move over them.
Yes there is, and best of all you can set the distance. Check out some of my other classes on waypoints and settings. It should be in the system settings and alarms sections
Is there anyway of making the map stay still when drifting. The north at the top and the south on the bottom. Sometimes when it's foggy I get confused as to whether I'm north of my waypoint or south when I'm zoomed into it and the kayak is spinning around in the wind. Kind regards lee
From the Waypoint Map, press menu, then scroll down to Map Setup, , now select Orientation, Select North Up....hope that helps. This will keep the north orientation up always.
Without knowing where or what type of waters you are fishing, here is my honest opinion. This is a awesome budget unit, that will work great for you if fishing lakes, rivers, or inshore. In my opinion if you are fishing more offshore or open ocean, I would spend the extra money and get a sonar with a dedicated mapping and chart plotting capability, that accepts mapping cards such as Navionics. I would also look at more advanced units if you are wanting to look for structure such as points and humps, since you will be able to see these features easily using a fishfinder that accepts mapping cards like the Navionics cards. The Striker 4 GPS and Waypoint system is very basic...it will definitely get you from point A to B without issue, but there are better options available if you need more advanced functions. Hope this helps a bit, if you have anymore questions let me know...I run this Striker 4 on my kayak, and have a large high end Humminbird on my boat, so I know a bit about the pros and cons of both sides of the coin.
1Cast 1Fish great advise. I came to the same conclusion soon after watching several others Garmin models after posting my comment to you. I believe my best option is the Garmin echo map 45DV. It has all the fitures you mentioned. Including navigation charts this unit looks to have the same dimensions as the model in your video, as you know space is on a premium on a jet ski . I will be using my jet ski mainly in the ocean, but lakes fishing is my favorite. So it will be use in both I would say. Tell what you think of this model. Since you are more experienced that me on this type of equipment. Thanks.
Yeah that is probably going to be the better option for you and what you will be doing with it. I would also look at a bit bigger screen if you have the real estate available on the jet ski. It will make reading the maps and charts a bit easier while running down the lake or ocean.
Do you have to be on the waypoint screen in order to drop a pin, or waypoint, or can I be on the traditional screen marking fish and hit the waypoint button to mark fish?
The Striker 4 has a GPS map, but I am assuming you mean more like a contour map. In that case you have 2 options...buy a higher end fish finder that accepts mapping cards, or use the Plus or higher Striker models with Quickdraw Contour Mapping. The QD Mapping maps the lake or river as you travel around it...the fishfinders with mapping cards the contours are already loaded.
@@kamalsfishingthebahamas7901 The GPS map is just a blank screen that shows your waypoints, and routes...no other info is displayed...it is very basic. It is located on the Home Screen, under Waypoint Map
So you can just follow the current track on the screen when you get back to the area, or save the track as a series of points and use it in the future as well.
When it comes to fishfinders, it depends on what features you are looking for. If you want simple point A and Point B type stuff the base model Striker is cheapest...but shows no lake details such as boundaries or mapping. Thanks a lot!! How can I add coordinates to the gps? A friend mine was kind enough to share some of his fishing spots and sent me the coordinates. Thanks
I use the GPS to navigate back to the boat ramp on a complicated lake with nooks and crannies. This unit doesn't have maps. Does it keep a track that I can back track, or is navigation to a waypoint always a straight line.
So you can follow the track back since the unit will show a line where you have been. Another option is to just mark waypoints along the path and save it as a route. If you just use a waypoint, it will do a straight line...which is not going to work well for your need.
Great video...can you edit the text size on the screen? Even if you don’t have a waypoint you are heading to, but like the screen view, it is very small.
I'm brand new to the fish finders. I like this garmin striker 4 but I don't know how it works, do I have to pay an amount every month or you just buy it and use it?
@@1Cast1Fish awesome... watched... great info... I'm about to buy a fish finder for my yak... would u still recommend this exact same finder to this day or would u recommend a different unit?
Does the "go to waypoint" show a direct line of site direction to the waypoint or will it take into account the shoreline of the lake and direct you around points and coves
This is the base model, so that mode does not exist...you have to move up a model and look at models that offer mapping or chart plotting features. This one just does straight GPS waypoint marking and navigation. Be sure to hit that Sub button for more fish finder videos in the future...or if you have any more questions.
That's a great budget for a quality fishfinder with GPS. I like the Humminbird Helix 5 GPS series...for around $300. It has sonar, and chart plotting like you are looking for. Plus with 5" screen you will be able to see it on the move better.
Partially correct…there is no contour details for the base model Striker Series fish finders. If you move up into the Plus Series, then you can get the quick draw contours that will map the water contours for you.
You must set the route....the Go to features will take you in a direct....shortest route to the waypoint....you want to record a track and then follow the track
@@1Cast1Fish so I can record turns the way I went in to avoid Sand bars so I can go a little faster by following a track but how do I set it up to follow a track
Yes it is a menu option to have the compas tape at the top of the screen. On the waypoint map, press the menu key, now scroll down to and select overlay numbers, you should see compass tape at the bottom....turn it on.
After Looking a many so called reviews on fish finders and being disappointed. I am so glad I found your videos . I’ve watched 4 or 5 on this unit and will probably get it now. Thanks for the help.

@@1Cast1Fish awesome... watched... great info... I'm about to buy a fish finder for my yak... would u still recommend this exact same finder to this day or would u recommend a different unit?
Get the Striker Plus 4, best bang for the buck by far. Unless you only fish shallow creeks and rivers then the basic is fine.
Does the "go to waypoint" show a direct line of site direction to the waypoint or will it take into account the shoreline of the lake and direct you around points and coves
Great question...the go to waypoint will show you the most direct route to that waypoint without regard for shorelines or obstructions.
Best video hands down, how can I see the gps in satellite mode so can know what's around me?
This is the base model, so that mode does not exist...you have to move up a model and look at models that offer mapping or chart plotting features. This one just does straight GPS waypoint marking and navigation. Be sure to hit that Sub button for more fish finder videos in the future...or if you have any more questions.
1Cast 1Fish do you recommend any, I want it for my sea doo wave runner.
What is your budget?
1Cast 1Fish around $500
That's a great budget for a quality fishfinder with GPS. I like the Humminbird Helix 5 GPS series...for around $300. It has sonar, and chart plotting like you are looking for. Plus with 5" screen you will be able to see it on the move better.
So there is no terrain detail for these garmin striker gps models?
Partially correct…there is no contour details for the base model Striker Series fish finders. If you move up into the Plus Series, then you can get the quick draw contours that will map the water contours for you.
What is the( route to) will that route me on the path I took so I don't hit bottom in certain areas like sand bars
You must set the route....the Go to features will take you in a direct....shortest route to the waypoint....you want to record a track and then follow the track
@@1Cast1Fish so I can record turns the way I went in to avoid Sand bars so I can go a little faster by following a track but how do I set it up to follow a track
Is there a compass navigation screen on this unit?
Yes it is a menu option to have the compas tape at the top of the screen. On the waypoint map, press the menu key, now scroll down to and select overlay numbers, you should see compass tape at the bottom....turn it on.
