    Wow man! THANK YOU! I have never had a fish finder and just purchased the Striker 4CV for paddleboard fishing. It's an extremely overwhelming process to just pick one, let alone learn how to use it. This video was so helpful and well done. You were clear, concise, and offered up best practices. Garmin should pay you for this. Really nice job. Thanks again!

    Thanks for this! Just picked up a used Garmin 4 striker Plus CV for fishing. Primary use will be kayak, canoe, and fish houses for crappie. Although this is long and drawn out, you put the info in a good format and all in one place which is appreciated. Id rather watch this a time or two, then to try and read thru an instruction manual anytime.

    bro! I'm new to this whole fish finder thing, and i bought a striker 4 last year but didn't use it much because i didnt know how. you've changed my life with this information, and not just this video! your mounting tutorial blew my mind, i had no idea I could mount the transducer IN the hull of my kayak! thats a game changer compare to my arm mount i was using! While i feel silly for buying all the extra equipment, I feel much smarter and confident about using my garmin. Thank you for the knowledge!

    Thanks for the video series. I'm familiar with finders but not the GS4 so it was helpful since I just got a boat with one of these installed.
    Regarding the flasher mode that people use for ice fishing, I would note that the flasher display is merely the A-scope rendered in a circle, which shows it a bit larger and easier to see than the A-scope on the traditional sonar screen. I have a different type of sonar for ice fishing that also has both options. Personally I don't see any value in the flasher mode. Why restrict yourself to just using the A-scope (i.e., flasher display) when you could use the traditional sonar and see both the A-scope and the sonar history. The history is a great tool to have so you can see what's been going on if you've looked away from your sonar screen, and lets face it, you're not facing the screen every second you're fishing.

    I just purchased the Garmin Striker Plus 4cv and I can’t wait to use it on my kayak. My question to you is, if I see fish on my Garmin fish finder where are the fish located in relation to the transducer or kayak? For example are the fish directly below or in front of me in relation to the transducer. This way I have an idea where to cast.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 роки тому

      This will help some, ua-cam.com/video/ZGIugc1-N3Y/v-deo.html
      However with 2D Sonar, you do not have the ability to accurately determine the fish location relative to the transducer in most cases.

    It's great to have all the classes put into one video. Thanks! I have a quick question about scroll speed. Here's the context: I normally put my speed on "medium" even when I'm keeping the kayak stationary. My preferred fishing styles are using slip bobbers and drop shots, though I'm trying to grow in other fishing techniques as well. My question is, "Would you recommend auto scroll or a low scroll speed, even when your vessel isn't moving? How can you identify fish or what's under you if you're mostly stationary? Do you have any tips about how to pinpoint a brush pile or when the fish are stacked up on each other?
    Thank you for all you do!

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  Рік тому

      So, if you are fishing stationary and are using a vertical presentation...think ice fishing or jigging you want ultra scroll. As far as the fishfinder showing you anything while stationary...remember you are still...the fish are still moving, so as they swim into the sonar cone they will still show...again think ice fishing.
      As far as brush, If I see something of interest, I will mark a waypoint, then use the Clear Vu to really get a good image of what it is...if I like it I keep and name the waypoint...if not I delete it.
      Hope this helps some :)

      @@1Cast1Fish any idea why I can't get a reliable reading in shallow waters less than 3 feet? The depth reading flashes. The gt20 transducer is mounted in my 2022 yamaha fx waverunner's hull with duct seal putty. Seams to read great in deeper water even when riding 30+ mph

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  2 роки тому +1

      in shallow water the cone is only maybe a foot radius...so honestly no transducer is going to work well in shallow waters less than a few feet. They will give you a reliable depth reading, but the sonar info normally just looks like clutter, even on the 1000 plus dollar units on my boat. Now if you have a unit with side imaging, that works very well in shallow water since its scanning to the sides.

    Thanks for a great video series! I use my Striker 5 on a Hobie Pro Angler. Seems several of your videos mentioned optimal settings for jigging. Could you recap what those setting should be? I jig in 80 - 150 FOW for lake trout and cisco. Thanks!

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  Рік тому

      Here is a crash course or at least a starting point
      -Use a wide beam Chirp Selection for frequency
      -You want scroll speed to Ultra Scroll for Jigging (helps with seeing your jig)...think ice fishing same concept.
      -Set Noise Reject to Low
      -TVG Off or Low
      -Start with your gain in manual around 75 and work your way up until the screen starts to get cluttered with noise...then back off a tad.
      -Remember to see your jig you must keep it in the cone...so if you drift or move your jig may stray outside the cone 100+ ft is a lot of water so alot of line and lots of friction on that line depending on the weight that will keep that jig from wanting to stay directly under your transducer.

    Great video Paul. I am going to purchase my first fish finder shortly. I think the Striker 4 CV is going to be the one but i would like a suggestion because I do not want to buy one and not get what i need or over pay for extras that I will never use. These are the options I would like in order of importance. DI, SI, waypoints and mapping. Can you suggest a FF for a novice?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  Рік тому +1

      So I see SI is important, which is going to change things up a bit for you. The Striker 4's do not do SI, you have to move up to a 7" Vivid to get SI and thats about 500-525. Now at that point I would spend a bit extra....about 800, but deals are out there on the ECHOMAP's with SI. I say this because the Strikers come with a pretty basic GPS Map system, but the ECHOMAPS come preloaded with lake charts and contours. So alot depends on the type of fishing you do, and your budget. SI is very nice, but not cheap.

      Best thing would be to build a track when you head out from the ramp, then follow it back. A waypoint at the ramp is also helpful.
      Would also depend on what type of water this is...open lake, rivers, canals...ect that would also help determine the best way to mark to get back

      I have a question for you. In your video and in simulation mode when you use the split view 200 / 77 with the little side bar on (a scope?) The number on the bottom is the same. Doesn't the number on the bottom represent the area being scanned? Shouldn't it be a lot bigger for the 77 than the 200? Thanks.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  10 місяців тому

      That side bar is indeed the A-Scope, and I believe that it is because the fish finder is in simulation mode, and honestly I can not remember the last time I used the Split View due to screen size, but once it gets warm out again and I get back on the kayak I will have to look again...but I believe it is due to the Sim Mode

    I'm about to shelve this fishfinder. For my purposes it was a waste of money.
    I fish in water that is a max of 7m deep, there are only 3 places in the river, the rest of the depths are between 0.5m to 4m, and at a 24° angle downward gave me +/-5m under the boat. Means nothing to me. By the time I see the fish in a hole and come back it's moved on.
    Maybe for dams that are 30m deep this would be great.
    So I have opted for sidescan fishfinders. Far better for my application.

    I have a 35 lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor. Do you know if I can buy a foot pedal to connect to that. It would be much easier on my neck due to having total neck fusion. Sorry for these type of questions on this video but I just recently discovered youre channel and subscribed. You explain things very well buddy. Can you do videos on how to clean perch, other panfish, and catfish?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  5 місяців тому

      Probably not on the trolling motor. Trolling motors with foot pedals are either cable or electronic driven...so your model is not going to be cable since there is no pedal right now...and odds are very likely it is not electronic at only 35lb, so I would say a pedal will not be an option on yours.
      I can probably do some cleaning videos, as I want to get some White Perch to put in the freezer later this summer.

What if I fished and marked a different body of water in between those trips? Does it automatically pick up on what body of water your fishing

      @@Bville01 could definitely be mounting issue if it was jarred at all, I would check that first. Also check the cable and pins for any issues. @@1Cast1Fish Thanks again. I readjusted the transducer angle for the third time but unfortunately that didn't help. • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  Рік тому

      I was thinking maybe a setting, check your depth settings to be auto and also check your zoom settings and ensure nothing is on. However a factory reset should have taken care of any setting issues. Might be worth a call to Garmin...they are very helpful IMO, especially if it is still under any warranty.
      Another thing to try is to go to the simulator mode and see what the screen looks like and if your issue is still there.

    Hello Sir! So I recently bought the garmin striker 4 plus cv with the cv20-tm transducer. My question is, if I go to the transducer list, the cv20-tm isn't on there. It does have the CV20 though. If I click on it, it throws up a possible error message. Any ideas of what transducer I should select, or just leave it to the factory setting? Thanks in advance.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  Рік тому +1

      So the selection normally does not specify tm that I remember, so just select the CV20. The error message is just a warning to ensure that you do in fact have a CV20, as errors can occur if you select it but do not have the actual CV20. It basically is saying are you sure you have a CV20 connected and want to use it.

    • @1Cast1Fish

      No you can not, here is why...the transducer must not have any air gap between it and the water, and in your case the transducers would have to shoot through the top plastic, then open hull, then the bottom plastic. This is why it would not function.
