  • I've been travelling across all of Asia and the Middle East, and ended up collecting a lot of passport stamps that don't make your entry into the United States any easier. This is the story of my journey to the US and what happened at the border.

I realize I'm almost a year late here, but take my word for it, you were screened before you even stepped on the plane to New York. The interrogations at U. S. Customs and Immigration are for those for whom they have incomplete information, have questions about, or for whom there is some suspicion. There is a lot that goes on in the background that you aren't aware of.

ESTA is valid for two years so if you got it before you went to those countries the information won’t appear on your ESTA. And I think if you have been to any of the countries the ESTA application asks about it can lead to your ESTA being denied and you needing a visa. ESTA doesn’t include include your whole travel history and neither does any of the information beforehand guarantee you entry. I’ve been to the US a few times and immigration is never fun or easy, there are always a lot of questions and it always takes quite long. I fully understand her doubt and would have been the same, as it says everywhere the final decision about your entry is made by the immigration officer who def lets you confirm some of the information they have about you and they def ask stuff beyond that every time.

She probably got a visa and then made this video on how she was let it like tf. You can no longer travel with an ESTA if you've visited countries that are classified as "zones of conflict" you then need to apply for a visa at a US ambassy. Furthermore, you're a polish citizen and only recently did poles get included in the ESTA program. I believe that when this video was made, poles still had to apply for a visa.
Applying for a visa = properly screened.

As an American citizen, a person of color with an Islamic sounding name. I do travel a lot abroad but not in those places. I have even some black and white European friends who visit the US often. I do believe racial profiling exists and real. However, I think your case was not merely pure luck, or they let you go because of color or national origin, etc.
This simple answer is that they checked you thoroughly even while you were in flight and probably watched your vlogs too and saw you were no threat. If still need the long answer and how here it goes:
There is something called Advance Passenger Information System (APIS). US congress passed back in 2005, allows the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to review passenger information prior to boarding for commercial flights arriving into or departing from the United States and for commercial vessels destined for or departing the United States.
In other words, every airline, including the one you were on your way to the US, was legally required to transmit the complete manifest for all passengers 30 minutes prior to departure. APIS includes even your seat information and whether you asked the airline to serve you specific dietary requirements, Halal, Kosher, vegetarian etc. So they have 8 hours of your flight to check you before you land.
Besides, if you have a passport of one of the countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) then you must have obtained approval through ESTA prior to traveling to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. In ESTA form, you will have to list every country you traveled. If not a member of VWP countries, then you must have presented your passport to US consulate, and they would have checked you anyway.

While I totally agree with your comment (and in fact learned plenty from the details in it), I still think had her name been Muhammad Abdul something and had she been a brown man, there will be more suspension and different treatment even if said Muhammad was a traveling vlogger and his info was pulled up before hands. Racial-profiling does exist despite what tools and procedures you have in place because ultimately they are operated by human beings. I appreciate the fact that she highlighted this issue and appreciate all the info you gave in your comment.

@@halasalman2627 I agree profiling exists. I have a good friend of mine with an EU passport with a Muslim name. I told him before that the first time after he got his ESTA, there will be interrogation at the port of entry normally if it is the first time, they will create a profile for you. Exactly that is what they did. He came back twice after that and no problem.

Would take me to back rooms in many countries and ask me all sorts of questions. Then when I finally got my New Zealand passport all those friendly officials stopped talking to me. Eva, please don't be so naive. Big brother knows who is and who isn't a security threath to the country, any country. Nothing to do with the fact that as a white female it's so called easier. Let me enlighten you, when your passport is checked by the boarder control, they know if you are on a red list or have been to prison or have a parking ticket. Did you know that you cannot enter Australia of you committed a certain type of crime, regardless of your skin colour.
When you apply for Esta you have to provide all your details, the government department who is handling this in the USA know about every single person who boards a plane. Since 9/11 the USA are much stricter, not like the UK and the rest of the european countries and ate so naive ;-(

Many countries, almost certainly including Poland, have an agreement with the US that they will tell the US if citizens of theirs who have asked permission to enter the US are on the radar of their security services. You get on their radar for instance by being in touch with extremists. Saudi Arabia, for example, is extremely cooperative with the USA on this, and since these procedures were adopted the USA has never or at most extremely rarely had problems with Saudi citizens it has let into the country.
You should be praising the professionalism of the Polish and British security services rather than making vile and insulting claims without any knowledge of how the procedures work.

A German friend of mine who looked very European and he was searched thoroughly at the JFK on his way out of the country. It is just pure luck dear. There is random screening. You come to the US with a renewed EU passport next time, cleared of visas, and who knows how you are going to be treated :)) And the treatment may vary from gate to gate. The US customs people at the gates "are" from different races, first of all. They are not specifically giving clearance to "all white" people, despite countless unfair incidents take place - which I definitely not vouch for. The other thing about customs officers (everywhere) is, they are authorized with wider powers we can imagine because where they question you is technically, still outside the gates, meaning outside the country you are trying to enter. So, they are outside the legal jurisdiction of the country they are authorized to represent. So they have wider powers than the regular law enforcement guys. It is a great responsibility to let incoming people through the "doors" ahead. Even citizens are questioned for long time. It is sometimes the "hunch" they feel, so they trust you and let you past the gates.

@@autoworld9681 Thank you for your valuable lesson on political correctness my friend, as if I have never been aware of in my 50 years of my life. Practically it does not work that way, even in Europe. And many of those ethnic groups you mentioned have already been obviously mistreated by their relevant governments, the majority and their neighbors, and those countries in eastern Europe have many proven track records on racism and minority mistreatment. I have even been harassed by my looks while in Prague and I can assure you: I don't look "european". I know what I meant when I used the term. Let alone, you are taking my original comments out of context by picking up a single word I have used. I am describing in my previous comment how the US Customs work; look at it from the broader picture. And by the way, the owner of this video is again in the US right now and she seems to have made her second entry without any issues. She originally had thought her earlier visits to some Middle East countries and their visa stamps would cause difficulties at the entry while she was visiting the US for the first time. I had this kind of experience, not for entering into a country, but in an administration in my country. I needed a certificate that proved that I had French nationality and I had to go at an office where around 30-40 people were waiting so I was expecting a quite long waiting. But these other people were there because they were foreigners (and most of them were not white-coloured) and needed some documents for staying in France. When they saw me in the line, they immediately came at me and asked me what I needed. They immediately took my application form and asked me to come back two days later - that document normally needed one week or more to be done. So I came back two days later and when the guy saw me in the waiting room, he opened a desk for me.

I usually dont comment on post such as thsse I actually liked your other videos but this was a very stupid and misleading remark as it seems you were gonna make an issue out of the situation either way. Oh and by the way am black and I live and work in middleast and i either transit or stop over in US at least once a year and yes sometimes I get questioned and sometimes I dont hence your remarks have no relevance.

C'mon people, don't fall for the lies of woke crowd. The overwhelming majority of the population is not racist.. the woke left are just pushing this fake narrative that there are racists everywhere and make it everything about race, in order to divide people and spread hate.

My friend and I got stopped at border of Quebec. We did not have a itinerary and only 20 at the time. They made us park at the office and searched the trunk. We crossed after 15 mins of questions.

They didn't ask you any questions because you had a visa. So, the embassy where you issued it, would have asked you these questions. Problem with your entry into the US you would have if you were trying to get in with ESTA.

That's incorrect. When a colleague of mine tried to enter the US with a student visa and a EU passport he was questioned for hours because he was born in Iran.

@@Raider_MXD I have a few close friends from Iran that have no issues traveling back to the USA from Iran. Two of them are here on work visas & the most recent came on a university visa last September. Only time you'll be pulled aside & questioned for hours is if you have not answered something truthfully, served in the military or connected/related to government officials.

We were a group of people who had applied for visas together and entered the US together and he was not just treated worse when crossing the border but also his visa application process was handled differently. Us European born people knew after leaving the consulate that we'd be receiving our visas in four weeks, he on the other hand was being told that in six weeks they'd let him know if he'll get a visa or not which means additional vetting was done. The only difference betwen us and him was that he had Theran as his place of birth in his EU passport instead of a European city.

You had a visa - that helps. I‘m a white blonde woman that got questionned for an hour or two hours at the US border in the past. They were always respectful but they asked some uncomfortable questions not because I didn‘t want them to know the answer but because I knew my answer wasn‘t the one they wanted to hear as their number 1 favourite answer. I just treated it with an it‘s their job attitude. After all I knew what could be expecting me at the border so I came prepared with just the right kind of documents. I always felt like their main goal was to make sure you follow the law and leave again after whatever time you were granted in their country. And they make it very clear that it is up to you to prove that.

You don't have a European sounding name though. It's not just about looks and gender. I think it's a combination of different things. When you "pass" as a European citizen with a European sounding name AND are white, things are usually easier for you. Not every single time, not with every single person, but generally.
