Hi Bill & Julie, certainly was a great day, I don't know who was more surprised about that ring, though, me or Stu. Thanks for watching, all the best to you both, GL&HH, Ian.
OMG what a find Ian, thought the silvers were great until the lovely roman gold ring turned up. Perfect way to end the days detecting mate. Take care and HH 👍🙂👋 Tony
Hi Tony, funnily enough, I was thinking the same thing, that I'd had a really excellent day, then Wow, what a turn up, the enamelled brooch is also a stunning find, but that ring....... All the best, mate, GL&HH, Ian.
Hi Steve, thanks, mate, shame it has to go to the TT process, It is the 2nd one that Stu has found at that site, the other one was a ladies gold ring in September, I'm thinking that they're a pair. It'll be interesting to see what the "professionals" make of them. Thanks for watching, all the best to you and the family, GL&HH, Ian.
@@Janhyooz It’s amazing really Ian how much is still undiscovered and how fast the history is, it’ll be interesting to see what the TT say about it? With a little bit of luck the ring will come back but I fear it may be some time at least it will get assessed it would be great to see it straightened to it former glory, hopefully it’ll be your turn next time mate 🤞love to all and HH mate 😁👍👍👍
Evening Ian, my friend just sent a link to this video and proper enjoyed watching pal. That ring is breathtaking, and along with all the other finds, amazing history 👍🏻
Hi Jimbo, glad you enjoyed this one and presumably your friend as well, yes indeed this was an altogether breathtaking day, thanks for watching and commenting, all the best, GL&HH, Ian. BTW, subbed your channel, 👍👍
Hi Mark, thanks, this was quite and incredible day, we're waiting now for the interminably slow treasure process to unwind itself. All the best, GL&HH, Ian.
Very well done, I lost track of you, but just re subscribed. The site you have is possibly a Roman villa site. Therefore look for the water supply and check! Good luck.
Hi Bill, thanks for the re-sub, it's strange but there have been quite a few people who have previously subbed but somehow got cancelled. I do know that this is a Roman site and there is a river not too far away. Thanks for watching and commenting, all the best to you, GL&HH, Ian.
Thanks, DD, this was an excellent find and we're both well pleased to have been able to save it for history, I'm told it will end up in the British Museum, eventually. Thanks for watching, all the best, GL&HH, Ian.
Hi Bud, it certainly is, isn't it? I'm pretty sure the British Museum, in London, is going to claim it as treasure, but at least my mate will get something for it, eventually. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. All the best, GL&HH, Ian.
That was an Awesome 22carrot Gold Roman Ring Ian,that’s what we do this Hobby for to find Ancient Roman treasures like that. It looked small looks like a woman’s ring, but I may be wrong. But it’s Beautiful what a find mate a true bucket lister 👍👌😊all the very Best to you HH.
Hi Craig, thanks, mate, this really was a bucket lister day, the ring was small, but, even so, I think it may have been a mans ring because Stu found a ladies twisted wire gold Roman ring at the same spot back in September last year. I'm thinking they were a pair. Amazing finds whatever they are. Thanks for watching, all the best to you, GL&HH, Ian.
@@Janhyooz thanks bud to find them close together like that I agree they may have been buried together. Could have been a burial of man and wife. But it’s a special find don’t find Roman gold rings like that often all the Best mate HH👍😊
that would be my dream find of a life time incredible . here in nz theres nothing very old maybe 180 years if u r lucky .imagine if u could see back in time to see who wore that ring and how they lost it .cannot imagine the thrill u had in finding it
Hi William, it certainly is the find of a lifetime, we are really lucky in this country in that we are able to find ancient items, that have been lost or buried down the mists of time. The buzz that comes from finding something like this is incredible. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, all the best to you, GL&HH, Ian.
Hello, mate, long time, thanks and thanks for watching, this was an excellent day, even without the gold ring. We're doing not too bad, all the best to you, GL&HH, Ian.
Well well well...hello Ian, i ain't heard from you in a long time, it's realy good to see your still detecting, and going by this video..unearthing some fantastic finds, congratulations with those finds, and very well hunted to your friend on finding that Gold ring, absolutely Magnificent find... i have RE Subbed to ya my friend ( can't remember UN - Subbing ) all the very best to you... take care, GL&HH Gordon.
Hi Gordon, very strange but I've had several people telling me they've been "Unsubbed" must be something that UA-cam does as I haven't [and wouldn't] unsub anyone. I've actually been putting videos out on average every two weeks for years now, except for a period of a few months around 8 years ago. Anyway, thanks for the "Re-Sub", mate, and for watching the video, this was a brilliant day out and we don't get too many like this. All the best to you , GL&HH, Ian. Oh and I've subbed you too. 😊
thanks Ian... looks like i have some catching up to do on your video's...i forgot to mention, i found a cracker of a Roman Bronze Ring last week.. Emperor Geta on the Bezel and in amazing condition, have a look at the video if you get chance, all the best GL&HH Gordon.@@Janhyooz
Yes, this one is the first one I've actually seen in 30+ years of detecting, although I have seen photos when other people have found them, more down South than here in the North. Thanks for watching, GL&HH, Ian.
I find it odd that all of these items were found in an open field. What is the history of the land? Was there a city located there in the past where commerce would have taken place? Just seems odd to me.
Hi Edwin, thanks for your post, not really so odd when you think that there has been at least 6000 years of occupation in Britain, interspersed with centuries of wars, sackings, raids and other internecine strife. There are many places in Britain where there were villages, settlements and even towns that have now disappeared and become fields, I have detected on several archaeological sites in Cumberland that have produced huge amounts of small finds [coins and artefacts] from bronze age through Roman occupation through Viking occupation to medieval and modern eras, that's what makes detecting here so interesting. All the best, Ian.
Hi, although these items are found in farmers fields today, they weren't always farmers fields, some have been sites where towns and villages were in the past or where pathways were in use for many years but no longer in use. Part of the "art" of metal detecting is researching where people used to live, camp or travel and, in many cases, these sites are now used by farmers. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, all the best, Ian.
Yes, they probably will, but they will have to pay a reasonable value for it, even though the treasure process seems to take at least two years to complete. Will just have to wait and see. Thanks for watching. GL&HH.
Hi Ian, wow what a day you had, romans galore and silvers topped off with a lovely gold roman ring, cracking stuff mate. ATB Bill and Julie X

I guess people in the past were very careless about dropping valuables in farm fields. Odd...
