I wouldn't use a spray bottle when detecting... I heard it can take patina off the coin... I would just use a soft bristle toothbrush, dry. Don't use medium or hard, because they're more likely to scratch the coin.

When you clean, or even just wipe, a coin -- it diminishes its value greatly. Avoid the urge to wipe it with your thumb. Only use the water spray to remove the dirt.

Was this back along the Oregon Trail or a bit further down from there? Having a large wide-open field like that to detect is pretty nice, I'm sure. No chances of getting into wires or other electrical dangers.
