Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 19 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. Keep looking for my ring. It would be easy to identify from the inscription inside “One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them”. 😉
@@Aswaguespack
That's not a ring that's a bracelet to hold all that inscription lol
@@jeanponce2017 😂
Whey are the metal detectors so angry?? There is no reason to be so irate.
Well.
You are the mentor I've been looking for, thank you for all your research and valuable input.
Targets like slag "space peanuts" and melted aluminum cans "camp crap" roll around in currents quick because of their round shape. Flat targets slide and kind of surf up and down, back and forth. I used to paint pennies and drop them at different spots using different color paints and years later I'm still finding some relatively close by and some went over a mile from being tossed in either a swim spot or where a colonial stage coach bridges crossed. There's a lot of physics behind how the creeks, streams and rivers move things. The ocean is hard enough to figure out between storms, tides, wind direction and even moon cycles can figure into the equation. I just know I love the gravel strips (cuts) out around waist high when they pop up then the water goes calm for a few days. It's pure detecting gold. It's a lot more work fighting the waves but a lot of targets sit in those cuts and they can't get hunted out they're always moving around like it's alive lol
thank you your videos got me interested in metal detecting. Space peanuts seem really fun actually! cool how metal from the 60s is still around and on the beaches!
Ive been teamed up on and off with Brian M. and JSBSH for several years now and theyre an incredible resource full of great stories, articles and information. They're so helpful and friendly, I am so grateful for all of their knowledge sharing over the years! I don't know where I would be with both my explorer se pro and my AT Pro without those wonderful people! Im so happy that Brian Meyer and Ronnie and the rest of the gang have a reach up into NYC and beyond! Thanks for a good informative presentation, I will def. check more of your vids in the near future!
Love me some space peanuts. Considering grabbing some specimens and sending off for composition testing. Need to understand what the aliens used to build the bridge 😂
This is Keith's channel....Keith coined the term "space peanut".
I really like your channel my guy. My wife is the one who garnered the interest in metal detecting, but after watching a couple of your videos, Im starting to get interested myself. Keep the content coming!!!!
Lots of variety in this video. I liked it!
Great video Merrill! Thank you for sharing your cleaning process with us!
Thank you!
I used to live in New Jersey when I was a kid, and we used to travel to Coney Island frequently to visit my grandmother. On the way there we would watch construction of the Verrazano bridge. Yea, I’m 72 years old. One note, though, it is not only one of the largest bridges in America. It is one of the biggest “suspension” bridges in the world. And down here on Palm Beach County beaches, we don’t have space peanuts….. but we do have a lot of GARBAGE THAT PEOPLE ARE TOO LAZY TO CARRY OFF THE BEACH! Sorry for screaming, but it’s really annoying how much crap I dig on the beach every day. 🤨
My thoughts exactly
I live in St Pete. People are truly lazy. The trash on these beautiful beaches is really disheartening.
You did see on that where he was, all that fresh blowing from just a few people. I have been to Palm Beach and Naples and St Augustine etc , very clean beaches
people being people?!? what?!? noooooo, say it isn't so! :(
Have Detected at many saltwater beaches, The WORST was South Padre Island, TX LOTS of trash mainly aluminum cans..
the OG of metal detecting...good great stuff
Merril I came across your channel and I'm glad I did I'm totally new to metal detecting, this past x-mas I purchased the simplex makro the information you have given was excellent so thank you for that tremendous help. I live in rochester ny so we are neighbors. I used it for the first time yesterday at lake ontario didn't get anything good but it does go pretty deep, found lots of pull tabs, bottle caps, can tops and shot gun shell bases. not bad at least I dug up stuff. you have a new subscriber for sure.
New sub...love your videos bro..very informative, thanks
It was your vids of the Nox 900, that gets me to buy that one...
We get melted cans which are just like the South Beach space peanuts down our way. I had thought Lou coined that, so thanks for the education. Nice seeing Mike and Lou and nice shoutout to Brian and the gang. I had read about inlets in particular and ring movement in the past. Thank you for your hard work 👋👍 BTW nice blog article Merrill
Hi Merril Great info like always! Great hunt! Amazing rings! Great! I’m going to be dreaming of space peanuts tonight 😂
Another great video. Thanks for sharing. Take care!
You know that if you package those "Space Nuggets" and say exactly what they are, tourist's grab them up for sure. It's a part of NYC structure that they could take home.
Hey, people bought Pet Rocks, and they had no historical value at all. This has meaning!
3 pieces per bag for 2 bucks. They will sell out in a NY Minute.
Its literally a part of the Verrazano Bridge!
You can actually sell the tourist the "bridge"
@@FloridaSandHunters Now That's funny!
@@FloridaSandHunters you are not wrong!
I have a piece of the original cable of the Brooklyn Bridge. 😂 my friends stole a chunk of it when it was all being replaced.
Ok ok I hit like and subscribe 😂 thankful for your channel! We went out today for the first time and located a gold earring and a toonie as we are in Canada! The "towel line" as we learned from you. Extremely excited to get back out!
Congratulations!!!
Howdy, Merrill...Number 1, Thank you for your Channel! It's great! My question to you...Is your 'Go-To' now the Manticore Vs. the Deus II? I have have a Deus II and have been quite pleased with that detector. I am on the waiting list at my local shop for a Manticore. Wondering what your experience is so far (especially on the beach).
Great information brother
Great job cleaning those up!
Glad the music is back. Clearly that guy in the Blue T has spent the winter hitting the Cannoli's hard! He needs a summer of beach hunting to walk that off. I need a lot of summers to walk it off lol.
Love your content:) Have been metal detecting for almost a decade and even though my style is completely different than yours, it is always good to see how other people do it:) A few things i was wondering about, if you dig absolutely every target anyway, why waste any amount of time to narrow down what type of shape the target has? seems redundant and inefficient. After years of experimenting, i personally only dig really promising targets, yes you will miss the occasional outlyer, but you will end up fining much more high quality stuff because of the amount of time you are saving, if you live in an area with a low amount of good locations i understand the dig it all mentality, but for most people it is defenitely the wrong way to go if you want to increase your success, most gold and silver jewellery and shiny coins have usually very clear good signals.
some people do it for the thrill of the hunt I think.
I just ordered a tumbler. Great stuff, now I know what a "space peanut" is. Can't wait to go dig again. Love the show. Stay dirty 👍
Awesome video Merrill
I've always wanted to try metal detecting
Interesting video. Enjoyable to watch
Thank you!
I’ve been missing the beach hunts!!!
Me too! That’s my favorite place to detect!
enjoyed the video some great finds
Merrill, with the Manticore, what setting do you use while you hunt rings? I have the Manticore and switch between general and low conductor but can only seem to find coins (modern at that!😂) Saint Simons GA
Great video , silver cleaned up good 👍🏽
Thank you!
Space peanuts is great. The space peanut montage had me rolling in my chair
Thank you for making such great videos. I found not to much yesterday and went out with the 900, on the beach in Mass/NH line. 1000 rings on every beach - an epic saying....i laughed about that in the rain
I really think so. As you know not all are accessible at once. The beach is like one of those quarter pusher machines.
@@MetalDetectingNYC I got a beautiful antique ring 💍 today! On the old common in my Town in Massachusetts! Thank you brother for the words of wisdom. I have never found a single ring on a beach 🏝️. With the new Equinox 900 I hope my luck 🍀 will change!
Great video I detect uk beaches I use Excalibur 2 sovereign elite and fisher 1265 I enjoy the sovereign but Excalibur is just amazing all about the tone we get loads of space peanuts
Good luck will post my finds for this year
Love seeing this ❤
Have there been detectors who were accused of stealing the ring or rings ? Just wonderin ,thank you Sir. I just subbed ,using your vids on various models.....cant wait to get started !
My 900 acts just like the Manticore, just no trace or fancy settings. Real hard getting used to all the new numbers but it still gives off that special squeal on aluminum. Also, I call fire melted aluminum chunks, fire pit gold.
Fire pit gold! Awesome!
i laughed at 'shut up dawwg' lol. some really nice finds too. thanks for the space peanut lesson
Amazing vid brother. Here in Hawai’i our space peanuts sound really good and come from aluminum cans being thrown into camp fires 🤙🏽
Ty for sharing
Due to a bad harbor placement, along with the killing of waterways leading to the shore, our beaches do not replenish. They sand them every year using dredges, If you can get some time in while they are eroded down to rocks you can really find some stuff that has been there for years.
"I took the car, I was having a hard day" 😂Nice rings. Awesome video!
So folks, come on down to Merrills Jewelers for that special moment in your life!!! very impressive collection...I'm very impressed with your collection! and congrads on the his and hers ring finds, it was fun!!! and again, thank you for the tips! very helpful...signed, Greg the Egg.
tumbling the silver looks good. Have you ever used Barkeeper's Friend?
First let me say I really enjoy your video's /. I have an old VX-3 White Spectra And want to move to a new machine ,every time I think I know what I want I watch a video and I change my mind! I don't mind spending 1600 dollars for the top of the line , I', 73 years old but I still work I live in Florida but I'm working in New York in the Ossining area and I have been having a great time digging relics .here ,I'm new to all the youtube stuff ,Your shows really impress me and my friends ,I trust your a opinion seeing you own 20 . I have to be honest I like Larry on sodbusters too I know he a Equinox guy but he seems to be down to earth also and a working dude enjoying a great hobby , I go out on the average twice a week hunting . Thank You for your time and please keep up the great Video's!!
He took the car. LOL! Love it. Great video. Thank you!
Good hunt nice finds I enjoyed it 🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it
which is less chattery deus2, manticore or Legend? thanks great video
I enjoyed your video Merrill good luck to you.
Thank you Jimmy!
The exitment is infectious when finding rings
Thanks for this one
Thank you!
Merrill, back in the early 80's, Orchard Beach had such bad erosion, they brought in dredged sand from Sandy Hook. Dropped off after beach season and left on dry sand like dunes. Then they spread it out all along the mid-wet sand and high water mark. The SILVER that you would find ON TOP just walking the dunes was crazy...
Do you have any detector recommendations for ocean beaches like ny has?
Was going to say I am nearly 48 and still not past the hot wheel stage and the space peanuts are kinda cool a nice little piece of history
Almost at 30k subs ! nice
Slow and steady. Having fun!
That manticore is a beast !
Merrill! Holy crap man! I was watching detecting videos and stumbled on this video! This is so cool! Hope you remember me 😂
Nate, you know this guy!!!!
@@MetalDetectingNYC I do! Love your videos. Hope Adell is doing well 😂
Nice! What collection of detectors do you use?
Right product for occasional hobby
Great stuff ! I subscribed. I’m nyc guy . Question ? Do you ever “ bottle hunt “ in erosion areas ? I’ve met many a guy in Staten Island bars that told me old old valuable bottles appear in the eroded edge of beaches and such . Have you ?
Thank you. Not really. I’m more in to coins and jewelry.
Merrill, One thousand likes. Cogratulations.
"Space peanuts" hilarious.
I've always used aluminium foil and gently with a green side sponge pad rub the foil to lightly scratch it then spit on it and put the ring in it. Rub between fingers and it warms up and stinks of sulfur. Go as far as you like but a min or two is enough. Great on hammered coins and such. Leaves a nice patina.
Great vid
I tried the metal detector in wildwood, And the Lakes in S.Philly there are so many targets per sq ft...Found lots of junk stuff, but; for the time it takes; it's not worth it...I own a construction company...I wish I had the luxury of "free time" ... I hope you's find 1000- 5 carat diamond solid gold men's rings size 19...:)
Thanks for vid.
Sounds like a Dizzy Gillespie tune “Space errr I mean Salt Peanuts”
I prefer electrolysis for rings & heavy encrusted coins, Tin foil is good for lightly tarnished silver non rare coins, Are space peanuts magnetic?
Hey Phil, I believe that space peanuts are aluminum.
@@MetalDetectingNYC use a magnet the bridge is iron
Hi,
I know of a mountain lake in which a stainless steel Rolex GMT Master (6,000.00 - 13,000.00) was dropped about 20 feet from shore at a floating dock around 51 years ago. At the time, it was, maybe 10 feet deep at that point from shore.
Do you suppose that it would be worth searching for it using a Deus II and SCUBA gear? The water is cold. The water is generally calm. Do you suppose that an heavy watch would stay in place in such a location for that period of time?
😂 7:57 " Bruh... are you kidding me--I took the car."
LMAO I Take them too....
✌ from Ohio
*Are you kidding me? I took the car!* that had me on the floor laughing! Love it
Glad you enjoyed it
Merril I call it seasonal detecting, here in Ohio, Pennsylvania you got into the woods in fall or winter weather permitting, why the older foundations present much older stuff, spring and summer more open field and parks but they become harder, why many already got the surface stuff and nobody replenished old silver
Thanks Merrill. I've always been leary of putting jewelry in my tumbler. No more.
Just remember that tiny stone very often come loose.
No pearls or emeralds. Too soft.
Stvarno je neverovatno koliko ljudi gube prstenje, svaka cast druze, stecno iveliki pozdrav🍀🤠👍
Heyy what's up I been following for maybe 2 weeks been thinking about pursuing this as a serious hobby n I saw ur video for choosing your first detector. But was curious about more that can go underwater or can get wet cuz I know I'll be tempted too try close to the waters . N don't mind paying like 2 350 rn . Or should I save for a better one.
Nice video Merrill.
I live in Cornwall UK within 10 minutes of 4.popular beaches.but I hate beach detecting.
I never find anything good and it does bore me. Lol.
I must be doing something wrong.
I have a Deus 1, legend and multi kruzer but don't have much luck with any of them.
I go back and try again every month or so but I just can't seem to find the right spots I suppose.
Look forward to the next video.
Thanks, happy Easter.
Of the three for a beach use the Legend. Go when the beach is low and consider the wave speed. If the wave speed is slow it stays where it drops. If the wave speed is fast the treasure will move a lot. Check out my beach tutorial for strategies.
@@MetalDetectingNYC thanks , I'll give it a read, our seas are the Atlantic so they are rough breaking waves most of the time.
I love thatstone
What is that shaft mr tones is using on the equinox???
Merrill - what tumbler and media do you use?
Would you ever skip a target solely based on target trace? If not, does it truly matter?
I never thought to put it on the stove, I always lined a bowl with foil and poured kettle water on top
And I dont have a tumbler, another toy I need to get, great
Yea, you tell us this AFTER youve hit every single beach! Have you seen the dude who has a cordless vacuum that goes to New York and vacuums the cracks in the sidewalks? He finds loose gems every single time!
Where did Lou get the 3D printed shaft offset for the Equinox? I would like to lower the center of gravity of the Manticore with an offset shaft adapter.
Mr. Tones = Indiana Tones, UA-cam (Lou)
I second your request.
I texted him this comment!
What the heck did Mr Tones do to his detecting shaft, so cool what a innovator.
What is the best and cheapest underwater detecter.
be advised--not all stones can handle being put into a tumbler
You could make a pretty cool necklace with those space peanuts... be a pain drilling holes in all of em tho...
Wow! Great Idea
LOL, "are you kidding? I took the Tuck".
Instead of baking soda use washing soda. Works great. (Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda Detergent )
I will try that! Thank you!
Bro.... First Thoughts on Nokta Makro Anphibio Multy ???
❤ Respekt for All your post on youtube. ❤
Dear sir what metal detector you should I get 800 or 900 or manticore
My full thoughts are here: www.iratemetaldetectors.com/
I found a lot of rings and chains and ankle bracelets mostly wedding bands and female jewelry pieces but I’ve found a half pound nearly of gold in 15 years searching but I live on the beach so Sunday morning I’m out there finding tourists treasure almost every weekend
Hey there been detecting with the legend for a little over a month. I’ve kept everything I’ve found.. ie trashy targets etc. Do you think anyone would want a gallon ziplock of these items to help them learn their detector settings on good a bad targets for a debris field?
"space peanuts" i love it
you make it look more like fun then work....
Keep all the space peanuts and pass them onto supports or if nice with a hole string them nice and sell as NYC keepsake.
Nice 😊
I don't know if I could detect at that beach without going nuts from the SPs. I like the idea of beach detecting though!
Another good way to clean up your silver treasures is after you do your boil & wipe them off, use an old tooth brush toothpaste and some baking soda again. You just might be super pleased w/the results and it doesn't take much elbow grease. Highly polished rings without any extra scratches or gouges.
This process works w/heavily tarnished jewelry even w/o the boil.
Just get proper silver polish. Baking soda is too abrasive.
