      Hey Rick, thanks for the advice. My longest drives are around 250-260. I recently read an article that the average drive distance for the casual golfer actually went down to around 218-220 yds so i am pretty happy with my current distance.

      Another great vid Rick. Think my longest ever was on the Par 5 10th at Roda Golf...2nd shot I hit a 9 iron onto the green. Slightly artificial though, hard fairway and it was blowing a hooley straight down the hole. ;-)

    After watching this video on Sunday I put it into practice at my club on Monday. By leaning back I achieved an average of 15/20 yards extra distance with 86.7% fairways hit. This meant that I was using shorter irons on 2nd shots which improved accuracy. Managed 38 stable ford points despite 41 putts. Too early to say if this one adjustment was fully responsible but in my mind it was. Thanks Rick!

    Another good vid Rick.
    I'm glad you mentioned how important fitting is. To many of my mates just buy a drivers off shopping sites because the price is right for them, and then take them out on the course, only to end up 2 months later with another one as there's always a problem with the one they had .. shaft whips to much / lofts to low and can't get the ball in the air. The only good thing is the charity shops does well out of them, amount of time they take there clubs in.....

    About 30 years ago, I hit one 360 and never came close to that again. (I’d be happy with 260 these days.) It was flat, no wind, but the Arizona summer had the fairways rock hard. I got a great kick off the back slope of a bunker and a lot of roll.

    After using most of this video's tips, leaning back, teeing the ball tiny bit higher, and the wider stands, I went from 230/240 to a 270/280 avg. Today I played my home course, and I landed in new places for me. Thank you

    Like many have said prior to, it's the driver that makes the car go fast. I've got a decent, grooved swing. However, due to long winters here in Canada coupled with health concerns, I don't get the repetitions in to make my swing truly trustworthy. My swing is fairly neutral so when I hooked two consecutive drives and then shoved one way right (just the other day), I have to keep my head and not panic. The next one was right down the middle, 294 with a tiny little draw. When I was years younger, the stars aligned and I knocked one 343. That one was measured by the course staff so I'm sure it was correct. Thanks, Rick, for these great tips. I would add that you might stress a bit more that range/course work will reinforce muscle memory so that they can know where contact is made on the club face.

  • @tommylynch3657

    Your videos on driver have helped me tremendously! In watching this one I realize the one thing I haven't done yet is go get some foot spray and determine where I am hitting the ball on the club face. I definitely know when I hit the sweet spot, but when I don't I am not sure why - standing to close - too far. Hitting down instead of up, etc... Thanks for these great videos!

    A week ago at age 45 and just starting to play again after taking 15 yrs off, with your tips on removing slice drives, 355yds on a flat straight par 5. Carried about 310-320...soft 8 iron to the green. Longest carry was 340 at the age of 29. It was a wet day and it actually plugged on the landing right next to the 150 yd stick on a slight down hill 490yd par 4. Both shots were with Srixon soft feel balls

    Hi Rick. I started golfing for the first time since 1988. I was terrible using the driver, but your video helped quite a bit. I have a question, with a left hip replacement and arthritis in my lower back, I sometimes have difficulty in the backswing (back) and difficulty with the follow through weight shift to the front. Any suggestions?

  • @kevinmontgomery1054
    @kevinmontgomery1054 6 років тому

    Love your stuff Rick! Please answer a few questions. 1. If a higher launch angle is desired why tilt your body to hit up with a 9-10.5 degree driver instead of swinging level using a 12 degree driver? 2. Hitting tape on the driver face shows my strike location varies in a straight line from low heel to high toe. The harder I swing the more variation in strike location I get. Any drills to help strike the center more consistently? 3. Too often hitting harder just means the ball flies 20 yards further into the rough, bushes, water, etc. I would gladly give up 20 yards to be on the fairway consistently. Your anti-slice videos are helping but I think I need more details about the following topics. What is the difference between keeping the lead arm straight versus bending the elbow in the back swing? In the back swing the wrists bend to create lag; at what part of the down swing should they unbend. How close to the body should the trail elbow be during the downswing. When I start my down swing and rotate my hips my shoulders also tend to rotate causing me to swing out to in resulting in a slice. What are the shoulders supposed to do and what are drills to help me fix my down swing?

    Always love your tips Rick thanks 😊 In this video you spoke briefly about transfer of weight in follow through swing to get club head moving quicker but you didn't say much on how best to transfer weight. Is it with shoulders, hip rotation, finishing position or combination 🤔

    It's my second day on the driving range ever. I hit a max of 200 yards. I ranged from 20 yards to 100 most of the time. 125 to 150 here and there and 200 yards 3 times out of 130 balls so far. I'm researching technique furiously atm since I know I'm doing many things wrong. Open face is one of them since I keep hitting to the right... I'm learning a lot in these videos and from other channels too

    Played Musselburgh Links when I went to the 2002 Open at Muirfield. The 4th hole was playing 410 ish off the yellows on a warm breezy day. Was using a Ping ISI 8.5 degree with a stiff shaft which, considering I was playing off about 20 at the time, was probably not the best purchase I ever made! Creamed it out of the middle of the face, flew about 250 yards with the tail wind and bounded another 100+ down the fairway leaving me a 50 yard pitch to the green :D Needless to say that was the best shot I hit that day and one of the best I've ever hit.

Needed to get home in two and definitely make birdie, I cleared a ditch that was 280 on the fly, ended up through it pretty good so maybe close to 300 after it quit rolling? Ended up three-putting for bogey, so that was fun!

    The issue I have with custom fit is the quality and skill of the fitter. Too often different places suggest different setups leaving me totally confused. I end up trying different options myself to see what 'feels' the best.

    • @johnnyutah482
      @johnnyutah482 4 роки тому

      As a former golf pro I agree. But with today's computerized technology it is easier to see what is happening so it actually helps the fitter see the results in numbers. Feel is also important especially for confidence. So when you get those numbers maximized with a few clubs then go with the one that feels best!!
