Steve, I just want you to know that I have struggled for years with a horrendous slice off the tee, and this absolutely fixed it. I tried it on the course halfway through a round and the very first shot was a draw. It did change my aim significantly left as well, but every shot after that off the tee was the same thing for every round afterwards. I still fade late in the round when I get hot and tired and grip the club too much, but this was a marvelous video and completely changed my game. I say all that to say this. There are a lot of golf channels on youtube, and many are great, but Steve, you legitimately fix problems without any lead in, without any side tracking. You are by far one of the best youtube instructors, and I recommend your channel to every new golfer I meet. This is not the first time you've fixed one of my swing issues, and it probably won't be the last, but it was significant enough that I felt compelled to comment on it to you. Good job, Steve. Keep up the amazing work.
Hi Steve, I tried this at the range yesterday on the top tracer (Airth). After a few wayward shots I was hitting them straight as a die 😮I'm nearly 60 (around 18 handicap) but I've never hit a driver as straight.... it just works! (ps I use the TaylorMade brnr mini dtiver)
Hey Brandon buy some jumbo grips to help you with gripping it to hard. The ones Bryson Dechambeu plays are great. It literally feels like your holding a baseball bat
Best golf tip ever !! I sliced the ball at least 70% of the time . Just hit 50 balls in the range and never sliced one ball . Talk about a confidence booster . Super stuff , keep it coming
Hello Steve, it's Rich from Northern California. I saw this video last night and I was playing golf this morning with my buddies. I shoot between 90 and 95 I play golf once a month at best. 62 years old. So I tried what I saw on the video this morning at the range, and started laughing at myself as I was hitting the middle of the driving range every time. I figured what the heck I would try it on the golf course this morning. On the first two hits I topped them. Ball wasn't teed up high enough for my swing. After that I hit 8 of 12 fairways. And on the 18th hole hit a 234 yd drive. Which was great for me. Ended up with five bars and one birdie. We will ignore the rest of the holes. But this was a fantastic tip one of the best of the year that I've seen. Like you said on your video you going to keep doing this every time you tear it up with your driver I will also. Looking to get better the more I do it. I was actually drawing the ball today which is a fantastic feeling. I also felt like I was getting through the ball better.Thank you again 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 keep the great videos coming.
Never mind the driver. I’ve been starting more or less the same tip with irons. Starting the backswing from a foot or so behind and slightly inside the line. Works a treat and seems to keep everything compact and on plane
This works!!! I used it yesterday and my fellow golfers were like, wow, where has that been all summer. Took my 17-year-old out for 9 holes after my earlier round, and showed him this setup and swing pattern, he started striping it and gained 30 - 40 yards cause as a lefty, he eliminated his lefty fade/slice. He now refers to it as the "stupid trendy UA-cam" trick. LOL he can call it what he wants, it works and is game-changing. Thank you Steve!!!
Holy crap! That works like a champ! Took it to the course today, and I got this setup to work so well that I am definitely going to keep it in my driver play. You are absolutely correct, this molds the backswing into an in to out swing and centers the ball on the face at impact. I was literally picking targets and coming so close to my aim point that is was like a flashlight beam. Incredible. Best tip I have gotten in years. Thanks Steve.
Definite +1 to this 12/3 tip. I sat and searched out my watch history to come and thank you. Took this to the course but I don't want to write it out and jinx my huge gains from your video. Much hugs bro !
I can’t believe it,. I have struggled with driver for 30 years, it’s all over the place. I went out and tried this, straight, great drives. I just can’t believe it, Thankyou so much.
g'day again from down-under...did you know Mo Norman did that - religiously.. he would do so by dragging his club along the ground in an turn arc from his set position - he said that somebody told him that the majority of golfer's errors happened within the first 12" of the back-swing...so he "deleted" that 12" . IT really does work...
Aloha, Mr. Johnston, Thanks so very much for this video. I played today following exactly your tip "12-inches back and three-inches in". I'm pleased to report that I hit the best drives yet! It was incredibly easy and the results were exactly as you said. I'm 74-years young and can't thank you enough for sharing this valuable tip.
I watched your video yesterday and gave it some thought overnight. This morning, I decided to give it a try and headed to the range. The first two balls weren’t great, but after practicing a few more times, everything started to click. I was hitting the center of the clubface consistently, and for the first time-no slice at all! Thank you so much!
I stumbled upon this video by chance and wanted to give it a listen. I decided to try the tips to reduce or stop my slice. After heading to the driving range today, I was amazed at the improvement in my shots. Now, I'm eager to see how it works out on the golf course. Thank you!
Yes, my thoughts too.....Mo was 24 inches behind the ball, on inside. He said this was to prevent any rolling or moving of hands on take back from ball on tee....he was on to something! And had a point. Bit like Steve.....!!
I’ve been playing Moe Normans single plane swing taught by Todd Graves for 6 years. I’m 73 with a 12 handicap. The driver is my favourite club carrying 200 yds
OK I went out and tried this today. It was AMAZING. I missed several drives because I didn't keep my head still or I didn't line the ball up in my stance correctly. But when I did it the way Steve is telling us, the drives I hit...wow. I hit some draws, some straight balls, and they airmailed. Try this drill, you will need to practice a little to get all the parts right but it WORKS! Subscribed!
I'm going to join everyone else who tried this and got a good result. Tried this on the range yesterday. I was already addressing the ball off the toe of the driver, so I just moved the club head a foot to the right, as in the video. I don't know WHY it works, but it does. Mind blown. I'm playing a 4-man scramble later today and I'm taking this to the course.
Steve, when you say you are already "on your journey" on the backswing, I recall Mo Norman being asked why he set up with the clubhead so far behind the ball - his answer was very similar. He considered the first 24" of the backswing was critical and potentially problematical, so if he cut a part of it, he was then already on a good path. Very few people hit it as straight as he did. - Well done, great Vid !!
This really works!!!! I hit 5 balls today and all 5 were the best I've hit in years. I was a doubter but I'm not anymore! Now to carry it over to actual play.
Just got back from playing, thought your tip just crazy till i tried it this morn, i'm a ten handicap, and this is as well as i ever hit the driver!!! so huge thanks Steve , think this is my go to drive now!!!!
This tip is absolutely brilliant! Worked straight away tonight. What a feeling! I was at the range working on hitting a fade from a lesson you gave me a couple of years ago Steve. But I've always wanted to be able to hit a straight ball or draw with an in to out path. So I popped on this video and wow I can't believe how easy it was. Added 30 yards and what a feeling off the club face. Just need to try take it to the course now. Thanks again Steve. Keep up the good work.
I've done that before and worked but didn't do the 3 inches in Moe Norman would do that it feels like a good chunk of your backswing is done because it is great tip Steve.
Steve- Thanks for this video. I went to the range a few days ago to practice this setup successfully. Today, I noticed my driving was much better, longer, and straighter for the most part. I will continue to work on this drill to gain more confidence, but I enjoyed my round today.
This guy is a mad scientist. Crazy idea but it works very well. Took it to the range today for the first time. Added at least 10 yards and didn’t slice one ball. This is definitely worth putting some practice into.
I tried the 12 and 3 inch position yesterday. My playing partner thought I was crazy. Then we were BOTH amazed when I smashed a perfect drive 50 yards further than I normally do!
I wasn't convinced until I tried it. Unbelievable!!!! I just played the best driving round of my life. Hit every fairway and hit it longer. Wow!! U the man!!
DUDE!!! Im so glad I came across this video earlier this week. I've been to driving range this morning. Used 100 balls and used every tip you gave and the improvement in my driving was remarkable. 65% of drives were longer. With just 8% short. But the biggest improvement had to be only 11% right and 16% left. The main majority were long and within a fairway seeking trajectory! Can not wait to get on the course next week. Also practiced my 5iron which was improved just by concentrating in turn and impact and reduced club speed. Let's be honest if I'm able to focus on a round of golf with improved driver and 5ir I should see a big difference in round score. So grateful for you posting this and thank you
I did try this on my 3rd trip to a driving range, the 12 inches back, 3 inches down and it did have me actually hitting the ball. So that's progress, thanks.
Steve, thank you so much for this tip. I have been struggling with driver but yesterday I followed your advice and hit every fairway. My playing partners couldn’t believe it. I ended up with a gross 80 after regularly being in the 90’s. I did have a couple of lucky birdie chips but I put this down to the confidence instilled due to the good driving. Thanks again for the game changer.
This video is pure gold. Always struggled with inconsistency and slices. Today I tried this on the range and got like 85% of the drives straight and far. Thank you!
I just put this to use at a local course and believe me when I tell you it works! I don’t know what about this clicked for me but I hit every fairway today and was literally waiting for my old drive to come creeping its head out of the framework! It never did though I can’t thank you enough for this tip truly! Watch this and put it to the test your next time out and Hit them straight from here on out!
Steve your tip is AMAZING I tried it today at the range and it really works. It was going straight and far consistently. Now I gotta take it to the course. Will reply back with the results. Thanks Steve.
Steve, this is amazing! I tried this today at the range, however, since I’m following the Jim Venetos school, I did this with the JV setup. This creates a JV bomb! I was scepticus whether the club would actually get back to the ball like you are doing, but it does! And this creates a beautiful draw with super lengthy roll after it lands. This added at least 30 yards to the drive. And like you, little dispersion!
Alot of folks sway back instead of pushing the right glute behind the body. This helps w the sway a sway causes the low point to be behind the ball and after the low point everyones swing goes out to in along the arc (big variable the sway is) Thats why u get more consistency
Steve-O, this is the absolute best driving lesson I’ve ever happened upon. Absolutely stupendous. I was losing yardage off the tee with driver and today I was out driving my partners by up to 60 yards today. And by the way I hit 10/14 fare ways. Fantastic day. Thanks!
tried today and started hitting some decent drives, but on the back nine as i got used to the setup/swing i hit two long drives that was the longest for this year. definitely works for me!
Hi Steve, I must admit that I tend to take all the driver tips on you tube with a pinch of salt. But this worked ! I watched this yesterday afternoon and tried it on my round this morning. I took driver on all the driver holes and apart from one push right the other twelve drives averaged 250 yds, longest was 260 and all were on the fairway or light rough. But it improved my whole game because i wasn't in trouble off the tee, consequently I matched my lowest round ever and my lowest at my home club.. Thinking about it afterwards I felt that i wasn't hitting at the ball, a few times it felt odd but each time it worked it gave me more confidence. 👍
Super tip! Are you relying solely on body turn (swinging out to the right) to release the clubface or adding in an element of forearm roll? I struggle with feeling the forearm roll, finding it easier to just let arms go straight out to the right. Thoughts?
This 12 inch 3 inch tip is awesome. Questions. Do you only use your arms or do you turn your torso to achieve the 12 inches back? Is the open stance necessary for this tip to work? Thanks.
Steve- it works ! Tried it at the range and used it in play today - missed 1 fairway out of 7 Longer and straighter as well - thanks so much - really enjoy your videos
Just back from course abd its the best ive driven the ball in years. Nearlly all drives out the sweet spot apart from a couple where i got s bit cocky and tried to smash the the ball too hard and lost my rythem. Great tip Steve and ill continue to use it. Can you use this set up with your irons and woods.
A fine fella told me on the golf course, to do something similar with my putter after watching me try and guide a couple. He said leave a small gap, approx 3", between the ball and your putter head, then focus on the grass in between the 2, it will make the swing natural and free. And yes it does work
I have to agree with all comments that are positive this has fixed my driver and given me the confidence to go after the ball needless to say at 6'3 245 I'm hitting BOMBS!!!
Steve I watched your video last night and went to the golf range today and your correct its an amazing set up I was able to direct my ball where I had intended, The test is tomorrow the 9th when I play West Linton golf course, will keep you updated Derek 👍🏌♂️⛳
@@stevejohnstongolf cheers will keep you updated, Uphall golf club Friday and Ratho Park Sunday so that's 3 different courses within a week, I'm very pleased as I was a slicer although strengthened my grip to correct this but I've now went back to a neutral grip with you set up and it's working...
@@stevejohnstongolf well I played West Linton today, your technique does work, I did have a few practice shots, I had a few duff shots but as you mentioned it's not a skill you learn immediately, I will keep practicing it, especially at the driving range, cheers for the help👍😁🏌♂️⛳
What was your distance on the five drives? Just curious about how this compares with your regular driver swing distance. Your videos are great, and have been very helpful to me. Thank you
I've not tried this yet but really looking forward to giving it a try. Is the intention to eventually revert back to a normal ball address once the feel is reel or would you just continue with this for good? Thanks so much for sharing 👍
This just works....one time on course....good. 2nd time indoor simulator comp Valderrama - won. Next time course comp. hcp dropped. Thanks Steve. see you back in Mallorca hopefully this year....
For those curious, yes this does work with irons and hybrids, just reduce the distance behind the ball and the distance inwards according to the length of the club. I tried it with a pitching wedge, 6” back and 1” inwards and not only straight but the ball also went 15 or 20 yds further. My hybrid 4 went almost as far as my driver ! Obviously it’s not necessary to adopt all of Mo’s technique, just this setup will be successful on its own - well done Steve !
Definite +1 to this 12/3 tip. I sat and searched out my watch history to come and thank you. Took this to the course but I don't want to write it out and jinx my gains from your tip. Much hugs Steve ! Now next few days I will focus on understanding your accent better so I can learn better 😅
My dear friend Steve, I combined this on the range with my other great bro @Sagutogolf who teaches stack /tilt. I will brief you again after this coming weekends tournament
Bro, I’ve been gaming this for 5 months now and you have made golf fun again 🙏🙏. You and Saguto golf. The only thing is that i start the round with a nice little draw but right around the turn it starts to becomes a hook. So this weekend on the back 9 i skipped the 3 inch part and changed my grip to be a bit more palm-y (usual grip is finger-y). All else kept the same this seems to keep the swing stable.
Best advice I have ever run into in golf. Tried it today and by the third hole I was having best drives I've had in a long time. It actually works for irons and hybrids and woods also but only position them back about 5-6 inches. for me the best results I got when i placed the driver back about 14 inches. So easy unreal. Thanks man. Give us some tip for irons, even though as I said it worked pretty good on all other clubs but with shorter distance than 12 inches from the ball. Needless to say, of course I subscribed right away to your channel.
Hello , I do and it is working fine for me , but I still miss length unless I turn as much as I can but with very loose hands and also shoulders (a bit a stress makes this less effective !) I was missing the stationary head tip , thank you !!
I've been a subscriber of this channel since the internet began, and it never fails to both educate and entertain me. 😊 This setup is just genius. Keep them coming Steve, you're doing God's work.
Steve, thank you for making this video. This driver tip works very well. I went to the practice range right after watching, and it worked great! I also tried it with my 3 wood but only a few inches back, and it worked well, too.
Great tip Steve. Some slices were creeping into my driver and I was looking for something to remedy it. I took this tip to the range, and then to my league play. I only missed a few fairways and those misses were within a few yards of the fairway. Might you have a similar tip I could use when hitting my irons?
Steve, since I've been following your channel for a couple of months, my game has improved immensely. I've been able to incorporate your Eureka golf swing just by viewing several of your videos. And you are very talented at explaining things and have an enjoyable personality. However I get confused by lookin g at some of your older posts vs some of the newest ones. For example you have several driver videos that don't seem as relevant when incorporating this new setup. Perhaps you could post a "review" comparing past to present instructions to sort me out😁. Thanks for all of your help.
The game is always evolving and each tip is something that works for someone so there is always going to be contradiction. That’s why it’s the best game in the world. There are fundamentals to adhere to but there is no right or wrong🤷♂️
Hi Steve. Best tip I've ever tried which resulted in the best range practice, I've ever had. I've always had trouble with coming over the top and failing to drive the elbow into my side. With this tip, I find it reduces the variables in the swing and encourages great rotation. With that said, can this move be done with other clubs? Thanks so much. I will be putting this to the test on the course tomorrow.
Works every time! I hit 10 balls that landed in the same spot with a 3 to 5 yard draw. I usually over draw or hook the ball. I tried it with my 4 hybrid and it worked most of the time. I only went back about a club head and in about and inch. Please work out the numbers for the rest of the clubs. Thanks Steve.
Took this to the range yesterday. Every drive was a boom. Could not slice the ball even trying. Did turn over left a little to a draw but that was down to me getting my face correct.
Steve, I just want you to know that I have struggled for years with a horrendous slice off the tee, and this absolutely fixed it. This video is pure gold. Always struggled with inconsistency and slices. Today I tried this on the range and got like 85% of the drives straight and far. Thank you!
Gold indeed
I just put this to use at a local course and believe me when I tell you it works! I don’t know what about this clicked for me but I hit every fairway today and was literally waiting for my old drive to come creeping its head out of the framework! It never did though I can’t thank you enough for this tip truly! Watch this and put it to the test your next time out and Hit them straight from here on out!
That’s brilliant. Well done👏🏻👍
Steve your tip is AMAZING
I tried it today at the range and it really works. It was going straight and far consistently. Now I gotta take it to the course. Will reply back with the results.
Thanks Steve.
Great video. I started doing this 2 months ago and you are absolutely spot on with the results. It's amazing how well this works.
This is the single most effective tip I have ever used. I cannot thank you enough for this one. Subscribed!
Best tip i ever got...so glad i came across your video. Gets me deep into backswing that id stopped doing. Improving irons now aswell. Thank you
Steve, this is amazing!
Brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻
Alot of folks sway back instead of pushing the right glute behind the body. This helps w the sway a sway causes the low point to be behind the ball and after the low point everyones swing goes out to in along the arc (big variable the sway is) Thats why u get more consistency
Great video Steve will give this a try! Could you use this technique with irons?
Steve-O, this is the absolute best driving lesson I’ve ever happened upon. Absolutely stupendous.
I was losing yardage off the tee with driver and today I was out driving my partners by up to 60 yards today. And by the way I hit 10/14 fare ways.
Fantastic day. Thanks!
tried today and started hitting some decent drives, but on the back nine as i got used to the setup/swing i hit two long drives that was the longest for this year. definitely works for me!
Steve, Greetings! Spot on about this Driver technique! Works with all of my clubs too with minor adjustments! Well done and thank you!!
Thanks.
@@NedBeasley hi, turn torso👍 My stance is open as I used www.eurekagolfswing.com
Thanks Steve🙏🏻
Steve- it works ! Tried it at the range and used it in play today - missed 1 fairway out of 7
Longer and straighter as well - thanks so much - really enjoy your videos
Excellent. game changing 1st try went from 160 yd slice to 212 straight. 2 nd shot 220 straight really has improved my game
Perfect👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
A fine fella told me on the golf course, to do something similar with my putter after watching me try and guide a couple. He said leave a small gap, approx 3", between the ball and your putter head, then focus on the grass in between the 2, it will make the swing natural and free. And yes it does work
I love that👍👍
@@stevejohnstongolf the gent gave me a financial cost for the advice also, “ its a Guinea if it works, and it’s free if it doesn’t!” lol
I was doing that last week for short putts, but was too afraid to do on the course, but it worked 😮 I just didn’t like my takeaway
@@light1531 it has certainly made a difference to my putting, and the more you hole, the more the confidence comes flooding back
.. that’s Padraig Harrington’s tip
Gonna give this a go next time... I am struggling with my drive rn even with good square ups and hits. My grip is bad as well, but im learnin.
I have to agree with all comments that are positive this has fixed my driver and given me the confidence to go after the ball needless to say at 6'3 245 I'm hitting BOMBS!!!
THIS WORKS!!! First time I’ve ever had one simple trick that made such a drastic difference in my striking, thank you!
Best tip ever, thanks man I hit 17 out of 18 Fairways the weekend Glen in Ireland 👍⛳
Hi Steve. Does this also apply to irons and hybrids? what are the distances then?
Steve I watched your video last night and went to the golf range today and your correct its an amazing set up I was able to direct my ball where I had intended, The test is tomorrow the 9th when I play West Linton golf course, will keep you updated Derek 👍🏌♂️⛳
@@Derek-Reid go for it Derek. West Linton is good👍
@@stevejohnstongolf cheers will keep you updated, Uphall golf club Friday and Ratho Park Sunday so that's 3 different courses within a week, I'm very pleased as I was a slicer although strengthened my grip to correct this but I've now went back to a neutral grip with you set up and it's working...
Great tip Steve. Now does this work for my irons?
Literally just did this yesterday. Extremely impressed thank you! Looking for your next video on better iron striking tips
This tip was an absolute game changer for me - thank you SO much for posting 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Can’t wait to try this, my driving was horrible today and slicing nearly every time.
Would this work for irons too?
Holy F!!! This no joke cured my slice!! I was down the middle of the fairways on all of my drives!!!
Best tip ever!!!!!
Best golf video I've seen in a guid while
A Super Video Steve. Thanks for this new concept. what about wood and long irons?
I have to try it next time. How would you do it for a hybrid or iron?
This just works....one time on course....good. 2nd time indoor simulator comp Valderrama - won. Next time course comp. hcp dropped. Thanks Steve. see you back in Mallorca hopefully this year....
Great job!
mind blown..no joke, this fixed my driver. its unbelievable.
Brilliant explanation. Thanks 🙏🏻 👍👏🏻
Worked perfect with driver. Have not figured out the other clubs. Did not work on the range.
Tried this cheat also with my long irons. 5 inches back and 1,5 inches in, it worked perfect... Carl from Sweden.
Brilliant Carl….well done👏🏻
Definite +1 to this 12/3 tip. I sat and searched out my watch history to come and thank you. Took this to the course but I don't want to write it out and jinx my gains from your tip. Much hugs Steve !
Now next few days I will focus on understanding your accent better so I can learn better 😅
Glad it was helpful! Sorry about the accent🤷♂️🏴
Excellent descriptions ~ I just found your channel and I’m subscribed
Thanks Dave, welcome to the channel 👍
I can’t believe how well this works. Thank you! Does this work for irons?
So good Steve thanks!!
You got a set up tip or move to play fade w driver?
Hi Steve , just saw this video. Will check it out next week. Thnx from a 17hcp in Holland
Needless to say, of course I subscribed right away to your channel.
will this work with woods and irons as well?
Cant wait to try this Steve, TY for all your support and tips, always appreciated
Hello , I do and it is working fine for me , but I still miss length unless I turn as much as I can but with very loose hands and also shoulders (a bit a stress makes this less effective !)
I was missing the stationary head tip , thank you !!
I've been a subscriber of this channel since the internet began, and it never fails to both educate and entertain me. 😊
This setup is just genius.
Keep them coming Steve, you're doing God's work.
So can you apply the same setup style to the rest of your woods and long irons? If so, how much ? 6 or 4 back and 1" in ?
Steve, thank you for making this video. This driver tip works very well. I went to the practice range right after watching, and it worked great! I also tried it with my 3 wood but only a few inches back, and it worked well, too.
Going to try this tomorrow big man, sounds a great idea !
Great tip Steve. Some slices were creeping into my driver and I was looking for something to remedy it. I took this tip to the range, and then to my league play. I only missed a few fairways and those misses were within a few yards of the fairway. Might you have a similar tip I could use when hitting my irons?
Brilliant Steve , great addition to last week’s driver vlog really getting driver swinging around the body.😊
Makes sense! Thanks
Also does this work with the irons?
Hi Steve will driver set up,work for irons
Great Steve....a bit of Moe Norman , always worth a look?! He had something....that some still do not understand.
Took this to the range yesterday. Every drive was a boom. Could not slice the ball even trying. Did turn over left a little to a draw but that was down to me getting my face correct.
Hi Steve tried the tip yesterday even with the longer irons, awesome results, thanks Steve
Ivan. Absolutely brilliant instruction by Steve for driving the ball off the tee.😃😃
