I feel like since watching your videos my golf game is improving. Especially my driving. I was bad at slicing and hitting off cue. I'm also a shorter individual using clubs that are about a half inch too long. However, watching how you adjust to each club has helped me greatly. I'm hitting consistent 220+ drives. I've only been playing for about a month so anything I can learn is super helpful. Thank you Rick. Keep up the awesome videos man.
Hi Rick! Thank you for all these amazing videos. I just started golfing 3 months ago. I don’t have an actual formal lessons but I always refer to your videos if I wanted to learn and correct my golf swings. Im eager to learn. How I wish I could fly to Europe and be one of your student. That’s my ultimate dream. 😃
Hi Rick. I am 65 and played since I was 19. my H/ cap has always been around 17 to 20 so nothing special. but love the game. but it's never too late to learn. I have watched your lessons for well over a year now. and my driver now goes between 220 and 250. and straight. my game is now more consistent and now I have acquired a lab putter. I am enjoying the greens too. my short game has always been fairly good. but thanks to your input I have never enjoyed playing more. so a big TA to you Rick. keep them coming.
Awesome video Rick! This was perfectly timed too because I was hitting my driver today and it felt like I could’ve been doing much better. I’m gonna try these tips out and start hitting some better shots.
Rick I have been watching all of your videos since I subscribed. Love the reviews of all the clubs and your swing shot pointers are spot on and easy to follow. Keep em coming. Played today and used my 8 iron as my new bump and run club inside 20-50 yards. Had been using anything from7 iron and PW and 52 degree but couldnt get the distance down. Worked great, just enough loft and run, new favorite from that distance. Didn't putt anymore than 2x today. Now help me on my fairway 3 wood. I tend to slice it 75% of the time. Thanks. Awesome.
Rick I am a beginner golfer and I have been watching all your videos over the past year or two and your tips have helped improve my game tremendously. Just wanted to say thanks and keep the helpful videos coming. Also, love club reviews I’m a student that has little to spend on golf clubs so I enjoy watching previous years reviews. And the videos of club improvement over the past 5 and 10 years. Which help me to know what used clubs to get. Thanks Rick keep doing you!!!
This was the correction that I needed for my drives . I have hit the ball straighter and at the least 60 yards farther . I had a wicked slice and now it’s gone . This by far is the best video on UA-cam I have found to date that perfectly took away that slice . And I have hit 16 out of 18 fairways since I watched this video . And that is the truth . Thanks Sir Rick
Hi Rick. I've decided to return to the game of golf after a 6 year absence. Kids getting a little older so I feel the time is right. I was always a power hitter with not much of a short game, but I've realized I should be thinking more about technique for distance at my current age, (53) and improving the short game to cut strokes. I've been watching a bunch of your videos and enjoy them all. Just wanted to say thank you for putting them on, I'm hoping a lot of it can translate to the range and then the course. I'll keep you updated!
So using these tips, I played my best golf game ever today. My drives were more consistent and I gained between 25 and 50 yards.... I drove my longest drive of 325 yards. Thanks Rick for these great videos.
Thanks Rick, I'm smashing the bump and run thanks to your session on 3 ways to get under 90. Still working on the other tips and recommending you to my mates. Cheers Heather from Aus down under.
I enjoy watching your instructional videos. Even scenes I have been watch you my game has improved. I went from scoring 100 to 115 down to 90 to 98 thank you for all your tips.
Just been given a callaway Rogue raw as a gift. Its getting left in neutral until I've tried all of this. Great video. You're my new online tutor. Thanks.
You're one of a very few people who get to the point, repeat your ideas simply, and have graphics that support your ideas. I'm going to follow another of your videos! Thanks for respecting my time.
I watched this on Thursday and played Friday and used the foot powder idea and really helped me find out how high to set my tee and to move my club back a bit on address. Very helpful!!!
always great advice, just bought a used R1 driver this weekend for $89, took it out today and had a miserable experience. The R1 however has many options to tailor to your particular swing. Im going to take it to the driving range this week and fing my settings. I also felt my grip was atrocious as well so im going to check out your video on that as well. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I’ve always had a terrible driver swing and inconsistent until I’ve watched ricks videos I just recently stumbled upon hitting almost 300 yards which I’ve never done!! Little did I know having a little torso angle made all the difference gained a lot more distance and consistency in my driver! Thanks!
Recently returned to Golf after 3 years Ricks vids are fantastic worked at driving range with a videos i watched and instant improvement this one is something i do have to work on
Great video Rick! Do you have thoughts on weight distribution? I know when I get too far back on my right foot (RH golfer) I tend to either shoot it straight right or hook it. Staying on my left side seems to keep me hitting the ball in the center.
I’ve been teeing off with my hybrid, I lose some yards but as long as I’m in the fairway I always have a shot at the green in 2-3 depending on the yardage, my driver slices so bad and usually end up in the trees and wasting shots getting back in middle.
I k ow what you mean I was teeing off with my 5 wood because I was in reality getting just as far as my driver because I didn’t have to drive through trees. But having been watching shiels videos and going over to the Rec grounds and hitting balls using his tips I’m now far more confident with my driver and finding more fairways now.
Great video, I have pretty much been getting all these things wrong. I'll be at the driving range tomorrow and I look forward to setting the tee higher and the ball position further forward. No wonder I have had a tendency to top the ball and make it curve down like a perfect free kick for a football player. I also need to learn (think it's more a confidence thing) to properly take a full back swing, I tend to shorten it up a bit looking for more accuracy.
My arms are shorter for a 6'1" person by about 1.4 inches (using the Ping fitting chart). I use Ping green dot + one half inch irons pretty well. Does having short arms influence where I place the ball with a basic Driver set up? Would I still have it off my right heel, or should I move it back some or forward some? Assuming a 45" driver. My worst misses are pull hooks s to the left in someone's back yard or deck. Sometimes I get into hitting pop-ups, too. Driving into trouble kills be scoring potential.
Really liked the explanation of why a closed club face is more likely to hit the toe (and reverse). This is not something I had heard explained before but I am pretty sure is relevant to me. Thanks.
This video was very timely for me. Played this morning in NYC (38°at tee time.lol) I am a toe hitter and just can't seem to work it out, shot 3 balls in the right side woods today. I am going to revisit my grip.
Hi Rick love the videos.Keep them going.Im a cackhanded golfer and I have a high tendency to slice.Do your videos on fixing your slice apply to cackhanded golfers like myself and if not would you have any other tips on the slicing that might benefit myself.Love the channels Ray
As John Browing said below: 'This is by far the best video on this topic I have found on the internet. Really well done man.' I agree with Mr. Browning in that this is a very good video and you made understanding the approach to address the ball with a driver a good one. Las Vegas Duffer Joel
Hey just started playing some vr golf and I absolutely love it but also absolutely terrible at it lol. Well I started looking for any kind of help online and came across your videos and honestly, I think there greatly detailed and highly informative. Hopeing for the months to come, when the wether gets better,I can get out there and start playing for real.
Rick! If you love teaching so much than my D3 college team would love your instruction. If you’ve ever wanted to come to the east cost of the US you just found your ticket/excuse hahaha. Love the videos, thanks for everything that you do!
Thanks Rick. I have been struggling getting the ball in the air. Used to be quite long but have become quite average with this low line drive shot i have developed. Going to try this out and hopefully get the F9 working again
This was the video that I was looking for, I’m new to golf and I struggle with the little things like tee height and reasoning for my consistent slice. I’ll definitely use your idea of using the foot spray to locate the point of contact
Great information Rick. First time I have heard that my strong grip may be leading to some strikes towards the toe. Something for me to work on. Thanks.
Really like the video, does it help to have the driver and clubs fit for you to help with distance and straighter? Also can do a video on irons wedges using the foot spray to get better distance. Thanks.
I have never struggled off the TEE. Yesterday I switched to the Tiger ball. Loved it on long, short, scoring irons. Around the green I have not seen it's equal as far as stopping and checking up. Off the tee I kept topping the ball. Minus 2 TREMENDOUS shots, the rest were garbage. A few times I would take a second drive with a pro v1.... no problems. Was it the ball or the many many beers??? Probably the beers huh? Still a great ball.
Love the spray idea. I've purchased tape in the past, but it's a pain to change, is not quite as wide as the head of my driver and takes a while to expose where the ball was hit. Personally I found that the best thing I have done to get the club consistent is strength training. Honestly, I think my playing once every few months and not practicing much has quite a bit to do with my inconsistency as well. I've seen your videos on hand position, striking different clubs, and practice routines. I feel that I could develop consistency without hitting the gym if I went to the range more often and played more. In high school sports I practiced at least daily and competed weekly. This was what was required to compete at that level. in your experience for the average golfer, how often do you recommend "practice" in order to see improvement? I recently bought a practice net for the house but my concern is that you cannot see the true trajectory of the ball and I don't want to develop muscle memory for a strike on the ball that looked good in the net but ends up being horrid at the range. Thanks for all you do, I really enjoy the videos.
Great video Rick, especially the last bit about how the clubface is coming into the ball. I’m definitely a toe, high toe stricker with that subsequent left shot. I will pay more attention to my grip. Thanks!
Great tips again Rick. This year I'm mostly concentrating on getting back some distance to my driving! I'm close to 54yo now and I guess my average drive when I've practiced is about 220yds... crap I know! I'm going to go through your tips the next time I'm on the range, but I'm also integrating some swing tips from Steve Pratt. I'll keep you posted of the results. What do you think Rick of my plans? Be good to get some encouragement. 😁
Rick if you are ever in New York I’d like to get together for lessons after I had an accident and are trying to figure out new grip. I used to drive 280-290 yards. Now I’m driving 230-240.
Rick: really enjoying these videos - have a question after watching this one about tee heights, etc - I notice you cocking your wrists early in the back swing - would appreciate your comments on this - I tried stopping the video to see exactly when you start this but can't make it out. Are you waiting until the driver is a certain distance or height above the grass or a certain angle in the arc? I ask this because I think I got into the habit this year of trying to make too large an arc before cocking the wrists and I got into difficulty later in the swing. Thanks.

If you are NEW to my channel SMASH that subscribe button to stay connected!
off the toe....probably 8/10 around the middle
Q1: Usually in the heel! I slice it for fun.
Q2: Maybe 1 if i'm lucky...
Off of the toe for sure and probably 6/10
Q1 definitely on the toe.
Q2 at the moment id say 4/10
Rick Shiels Golf problem not hitting the ball on the way up, and hitting high. Result is Ofoten a high and/or slice.

You have the best detail and graphics than most instructors on UA-cam, really enjoy your work. Keep up the great work!
love the channel and the videos, thanks for all the tips Rick

Excellent video. I am currently trying to correct a strong fade/slice and I'll take what I've got from the video to the range.
Your lesson on body weight transfer on fairway irons and hybrids was great. A 65/35 made a real difference in striking the ball first. Many thanks.
Thanks Rick! Watched this last night and played today and it improved my driving immediately. Like the simple advice! Cheers
Thank you. You have given a very good explanation on how to hit the driver. Good explanation of open club face and closed club-face.
Made me aware of tilting too much. Good knowledge of strike pattern faults explained. Much appreciated Rick
always great advice, just bought a used R1 driver this weekend for $89, took it out today and had a miserable experience. The R1 however has many options to tailor to your particular swing. it's insane how good all Ricks videos are, I learn so much
You give the best videos of any of the golf you tube presentations
I'm really new to golf and love your videos Rick ... I wish I looked up these videos earlier so I can get into golf sooner .
1k club. Love this video. It really hit home. I am a toe striker and now I have some tools in my bag to help stop it. Thanks again.
This video was explained very well in easy to understand terms for us average golfers. Thanks Rick

Nice class for me ... The subject was hit the driver straight and further distance .. Thank you .
Thanks for the foot spray powder tip. It quickly showed me that most of my driver strikes are on the heel. Working on correcting that.
Lovely. Let's wait for the spring and start practicing those tips...
I am gonna try this tomorrow morning. Been having a few problems with the driver of late...
Great vid, getting the basics right will improve the strike/flight and is repeatable no matter what your ability.
Hey rick great vid.. helping me a lot, hit two drives today over 310 yards the others bar 1 bad 1 over 250 yards 👌👌
Thanks Rick. I will definitely give this a try.
Really liked the explanation of why a closed club face is more likely to hit the toe (and reverse). This is not something I had heard explained before but I am pretty sure is relevant to me. Thanks.

Just started following your videos, awesome tutorials on the game of golf. I’ve become a huge fan.
Awesome video Rick. Nice and simple, short, and awesome.
Great tips! Going to try them next time on the range. Can't seem to get much height on my driving!!
Thanks.
Great video as per, I usually hit off the heel but I always use the pink castle tees so nice to see I get something right
Really like the video, does it help to have the driver and clubs fit for you to help with distance and straighter? Also can do a video on irons wedges using the foot spray to get better distance. Thanks.
Watch you all the time. Helped me a ton
Golfing is really truly a game of balance.
I explain it exactly like that to my friends who don’t play golf, just like life it’s a game of balance!
Excellent video, the simple tips are the best. So much improvement from basic setup, good stuff Rick

Rick: Always enjoy your videos. Super job.
Thanks Rick. Another great video. You should do some for left handed golfers.
Great video. Hopefully this will help me stop slicing now
Great video as always Rick. Will be implementing these tips my next time to the range.
I’m looking to get into golf and work on my swing. What kind of clubs would you recommend to start out with?
As always very informative & extremely detailed.
I have been working on this with my driver and have seen more consistency in the strike, good video Rick
Great video it helped so much! Love your vids!

Rick if you are ever in New York I’d like to get together for lessons after I had an accident and are trying to figure out new grip. I used to drive 280-290 yards. Now I’m driving 230-240.
Great video rick I'm struggling on the course with the big stick but on the range I'm smashing it really well any ideas why????
Great video will definitely use these tips
Thanks mate I definitely hit the ball at the heel end. Strong slice
Great video. Can’t wait to try this out
Great video rick! I normally strike centre of the club face I just struggle with getting the club head closed on impact
