      Downward Thrust What I love about your channel is that you tell it how it is, no holding back. You're not afraid to talk about things the way they are, you don't worry about pissing off a huge company. And also the way you made another video to apologise about F13 review, that just showed your maturity level and professionalism. You really care about what you do, which I appreciate. Not a single video on this channel has disappointed me. Keep doing the great work

      @keijaygib 6 років тому +4

      No, I loved Battlefield 2, and enjoyed Battlefield 2142 although it kinda felt like a polished BF2 mod. BF1942 and BF2 are my to favourite games in the series, because they had a better feeling of tactics than any of the new ones.

    • @joeykrainski6215
      @joeykrainski6215 6 років тому +7

      Kjgib Okay thank you and you're right about 2142 but at the time I never thought that and enjoyed the heck out of it. I'm thankful for DICE continuing to make Battlefield games but man I'd kill for a return on the old style of 1942, 2, and 2142. I almost feel bad for people who started with 3 and praise it. They missed out.

    • @keijaygib
      @keijaygib 6 років тому +3

      Joey Krainski | I'd love to see them bring back the style, but I suppose it wouldn't be very successful as people are more interested in extremely fast paced explosion filled action movie game play. It does seem like EA is more in it for the money than the games now, so I imagine they'll make the next one like the newer ones. I guess I'm stuck playing BF-1942, BF2, and BF2142 on single player and LAN until they make another one like them.

    People actually cared about Bf4 battlepacks?
    I really dont think they were a big deal.
    They only contained cosmetics, attachements that were just alternative versions of stuff you could easily unlock by the conventional progression systems and xp boosts that I always had too many of anyway.
    All of this was very easy to unlock without buying a single battlepack.

      I got like 500 different xp boosts to spare because you get way too many battlepacks just by leveling to 140, while you level you unlock all the weapon attachments for weapons from weapon battlepacks (100 kills). The normal battlepacks were totally useless, for me atleast.

      I agree and disagree to a point. while halo 4 was a massive step down the company was taking a risk to try and make it better but didn't, since then they have been listening, halo 5 was a massive step up from halo 4 gameplay and multiplayer wise, its pitfall was the campaign, and the lack of content on release. again 343i was listening, and halo 5 for me has been my favourite halo multi to date. while it won't beat the nostalgia feel of playing in blood gulch, it is more fun to play. my biggest issue with it at the moment is the design has gotten too cartoony, but looking at the direction they took halo wars 2 artstyle wise I have high hopes that they will continue the trend back to been darker in tone and not just story. In my opinion you take the halo 4 artstyle and storytelling and combine it with h5 multi and you will have a good game, obviously both things have improvements that are needed but from what i have seen 343i is doing better. lets just hope that the marketing of h5 was actually ment for h6 and that h6 marketing is not as misleading (there is a theory that h5 marketing is actually a build up for 6 and that locke will properly hunt chief and chief will be properly awol). while I do love halo I do agree that 4 and 5 were not the best. no to the other two you mentioned, I think battlefields best direction of choice would be the same as cod, a return back to the formula, they should do a bf 5 and make it like b4 but with improvements. the next cod after bo4 should be basically a modern warfare 4, for me the modern warfare 2/3 (since three was basically just a reskin of two with slight improvements here and there) gameplay is my favourite, while i did enjoy bo and bo2 i have not cared for this overly colourful and futuristic feel, while it was sorta fun in aw, it has been quickly killed by having pretty much nothing else but the futuristic cods. and also they need have a cod series that keeps the old style of primary, secondary, grenade, perk 1 perk 2 perk 3, form that mw2 and mw3 had, not this point based system, while it was a nice refreshing system when it first came out, it has been killed with over saturation and being made overly complicated, then need to do the whole "less is more" thing and cut off a lot of the fat, for me this includes the 100s of weapon variants of the same gun, a gun should just be a gun, if they are going to do mtx, they should keep it cosmetic, as it isn't very good for game balance, where as with games like halo 5 that can easily have 2 split modes one with and one without, and have it set up that even if you do poor money into the game you don't gain a massive unfair advantage and the emphasis is still on skill, e.g. you can have and op gun in h5 and still get killed by the magnum pistol :P . that is my opinion. I have hope for halo since beneath the surface of 343i they are people who want halo to succeed because they care for the game, I can't say the same for cod tho, since activision has a vice grip on any of their devs. but DICE seems to be a mixed bag for me, i see their past games and have hope, but then i see bf1 which while it was fun for the first few games, it is just weird with the conflicting setting and gameplay, but if they take that gameplay back to a modern setting then we should see a good game. on a different note what i want to see from halo is more games that are not halo wars or halo mainstory, like reach or h3 odst. I personally think 343i should allow other dev companies that love halo to make their own brand and style of halo games that aren't exactly cannon, but provide potential inspiration and could prevent the current games from becoming stale and samey. I myself would love a good narrative driven halo game that isn't all about the multi, or a subnautica style game but in space, or like the first mission of halo 4 but have the game be about trying to survive and get off a broken ship, with no other planet close enough. anyway these are just my thoughts, feel free to disagree.

  • @joshr8067
    @joshr8067 6 років тому +181

    I think you have a bit of a false expectation about BF1. Its wasnt supposed to be more or less realistic than the others. BF4 or 3 dont really depict realistic combat, so why should BF1 all of a sudden be a hardcore realistic simulator? (Which wouldnt be fun at all imo) Also the comment about being "rooted in history" also states that its mostly about the weapons and vehicles of that time and not so much about the gameplay. You can definitly argue about the cons in BF1, but missing realism isnt really one of them, because thats not what its trying to achive.

      For one, the class system is all but worthless anymore. There are more than enough ways to damage vehicles without a dedicated class, every class gets entry denial items, health regen and TTK is a joke. The weapons themselves are way too easy to use, there's no skill or weight and I shouldn't be firing a laser rifle in WWI. The maps are designed to funnel the maximum amount of action possible without leaving much in the room for strategy or flanking, and the squad system is so absolutely worthless that it's not really even a point to use anymore. The weapon selection itself is also incredibly dumb. Even World at War held itself to a higher historical standard with its setting, putting more of an emphasis on widely used weapons and single-fire rifles instead of one-off experiments to give people more automatic weapon choices than needed. If you want to see what an actual WWI game is capable of, go play Verdun or Tannenberg.

    • @Trackers89
      @Trackers89 6 років тому +23

      Alexander Storm I had the opposite observation with regards to the class system, BC-BF4 diluted the classes by adding all-kit weapon that pretty much made classes nothing more than gadget lists that fit into any play style. BF1 actually makes the classes feel specialized and fitting into a role, especially with the recent TTK update.

  • @DANNYonPC

    A few things.
    BF1 guns kill slower than any of the other main line games (even with the TTK2.0 patch)
    Movement speed? Slower than BF4 actually (BF4 has a longer windup time however) stats straight out of the files, source symthic
    BF1 Sprint speed = 3.4 * 1.775 = 6.035 m/s
    BF4 Sprint speed = 4.0 * 1.625 = 6.5 m/s * 1.1 Sprint boost = 7.15m/s
    Automatic guns in a WW1 game? the game would be frankly quitte un-Battlefield if it was just bolt action only.
    People are already crying about the amounts of content (funfact, it has exactly the same amount of shootable things as BF3 :p)
    Nadespam? guess you forgot about that it has been an issue for practically every Battlefield game? Remember BF2 with its 3 nades? (times 64)
    Cheese on the Battlefield.
    See elites as vehicles for the infantry scrubs, quitte easy to take down (+ BF4 had its own fair share of pickups like the M82 or USAS)
    However i do agree about the behemoths, those are just stupid
    But so does every Battlefield game have their own stupid things
    (BF4, selflocking missiles, flying C4 dildos, also known as the ucav, etc etc, or like you mentioned, BF3's suppression)
    Also, Battlelog (after its first year) was probably one of the best things ever, lots of great features, no need to sit trough 100 intro's and the whole social aspect of it was great (it did have some issues after Google chrome stopped supporting a certain thing, but that was quickly fixed)
    About the DLCs? 5 where paid, 4 where free in that list you showed..
    Every class has their own distinct role? you either run around with AR's or carbines microbursting on all ranges
    you either run medkits, or something to easily take out vehicles (C4 or RPG's depending on the class)
    10/10 class uniqueness, 0/10 would balance again

    • @MrMozkoZrout
      @MrMozkoZrout 6 років тому +6

      It is not like that. It could have been balanced out. There were videos about. ww1 wasnt only this. look at the game "Verden". Also it was such a huge opportunity to make bf fresh, make new gamemodes, change it a little. Tanks could have been rare and slow and gamemode could be based on that for example. Most of the soldiers should have had bolt action rifles and yes if done correctly it could have worked it would be balanced and it wouldnt be boring. Communication, spotting or rather the lack of it could have been base for game mechanic and stuff like that. But no they instead changed history to fit battlefield pattern. So most of weapons are prototypes that was never in war. Uniforms are done incorrectly, nations use others nations tanks and so on, just blatant lazyness + arcade elements.

Every weapon feels unique and strong in their own way and it has some of the most memorable maps of the franchise. That's all aside from the visuals that are still keeping up incredibly well. Just my opinion of course, but I still play it regularly, despite owning every single other BF game thats come out since BC2

    • @Redslayer86
      @Redslayer86 6 років тому +8

      BF3's gunplay was the worst in the series due to the suppression effect. It literally rewarded people for sucking and missing their shots lol. Both 3 and 4 suffered from lock on weapon issues as well, making flying in the games not enjoyable as you just spent the whole time dodging missiles from some scrub half way across the map staring at the sky.
      BC2> all. BF1 could have been just as good, because it has really good gun balance but they have too much BS in the game unfortunately.

The vehicles are just okay, but there is nothing special about them to really write home about. It's a barely competent game that gained popularity because of scale and setting. Also, I never made any comparisons, I judged it by its own standards.

    You're completely missing what the "rooted in history" quote for Battlefield one meant. The game is "rooted in history", everything in the game is historically authentic - which means it existed in or around the time period of the game, basically everything feels like it fits the setting.
    That doesn't mean at an overall level when you take into account an entire match as a whole, but individually in separation they all fit in; every weapon, vehicle, location, uniform etc matches a world war 1 setting. It may not be a true portrayal of the thing and it might not be realistic, but it is still authentic to the setting.
    The game achieves what it tried to do, which was create a Battlefield game with a World War one theme. It wasn't trying to be a realistic WW1 game, the series and how it plays wouldn't allow that without removing the core of what makes it a Battlefield game.
    The game isn't realistic or entirely accurate to the historical version, but it is still "rooted in history", as like that developer says in the quote, it's all real equipment, weapons, vehicles etc from the time period.

      TheVoidDragon agreed, if it were a true authentic and real WW1 shooter everybody would be stuck in trenches far away popping shots at each other every so often, doesn’t sound like a good game. They did the setting really well when it came to this, and did it the best they could

      Ok then I could make a ww2 game with the soviet army landing in belgium in another dday, make fighting in versailles and call it «rooted in history» because all the guns and uniform shown existed ?

    • @aitorjimenez2705
      @aitorjimenez2705 6 років тому +1

      Romain good alternate history series usually have to be 'rooted in history' to be effective, taking into account why things happened the way they did and how a different thing happening would have mattered
      unless you're just doing full on sci-fi, then it really wouldn't make sense to say its rooted in history

    • @nightlord131
      @nightlord131 6 років тому +3

      No, that would be doing something which has absolutely no historical
      basis, BF1 is based on history in the sense that it all feels like it
      belongs and has a historical reason to be in the game, there isn't
      anything they included that doesn't fit the time period/setting. The
      weapons, uniforms vehicles etc in your example would still be
      historically authentic to WW2, sure, but you're still doing something
      alternate-history as the core of the setting rather than what are simply
      caveats for gameplay reasons, which is not the same situation here at
      all. Battlefield one gets the background history side of things close
      enough to be believable, it's the realism it doesn't do, but that's on
      purpose to make it a Battlefield game.
      Basically, your example misunderstands what the "rooted in history"
      means as well, as the scenario you chose wouldn't be authentic to the
      other elements included (soviets) in the slightest - it isn't believable at all.

      Well i don't think people expected trench warfare. But if you go back in time where guns where hardly automatic, and it they where the recoil was uncontrollable you expect slower gameplay. But the gameplay speed went only faster and faster, thats not really wat alot of people wanted to happen. What i would have done was making the recoil of all guns twice as much, but thats just my opinion.

      I always play the campaign before multiplayer, this way I get a feel for the guns, look, and mechanics of the game. For instance, I absolutely loved how Battlefield 1’s campaign was formulated, with different war stories that all showed different parts of the game. I disliked the multiplayer because I felt it was dominated by grenade spam, snipers, and the specialists or whatever the are, like the guy with the flamenwurfer. I suppose that is to be expected with a lack of tall buildings and a capitalization on huge, flat areas with the occasional trench or bunker.

      The automatic SMGs in Sniperfield 1 were for the most part prototypes. Afaik, LMGs were not even a concept in that era. Most machine guns were actually really heavy and water or oil cooled.

    *TL;DR* - Your analysis of the franchise was fun to watch until the final segment on BF1 which I believe you unfairly nitpicked. I personally feel that your content is not of good quality ever since you increased the rate of videos.
    Sorry but your gameplay issues make no sense to me as a battlefield veteran:
    - Sniper rifles are supposed to be accurate and have always been in the franchise
    - Grenade spam was far worse in BC2 and 4
    - BF3/4/ all had faster times to kill than 1 until the most recent update which brings it to par with those titles
    - Picking equipment off the ground isn't a negative as it provides value to the capture points you are fighting over
    - Questioning authenticity is an understandable criticism but you can still play "back to basics" servers with SLRs only if it ruins the game for you otherwise
    -The sandbox element is what makes battlefield great so why is running ontop of a behemoth to blow it up or defend it a bad thing?
    - There are many trench maps currently available along side traditional battlefield open and closed maps
    -The behemoth system itself can work half the time and gives losing teams a morale boost and more competent teams a challenge to coordinate against, I do agree that the dreadnought is just awful to fight against however.

      i am also a BF vet, since 1942 BF, i started playing, and lot of BC and BF2 ect, worst BF game is hardline and BF1, sorry to say, just because you are a vet, doesn't exactly mean you are correct, i do respect your opinion, but fanboysim to the side, bf1 is crap, its more arcade its more casual, the skill cap is low, the gameplay is for peasants that think they good at the game but really suck at playing fps games that require skill, it has less content then BF3 BF4 even hardline and thats saying something, lack of guns, the lack of vehicles, its a shadow of its former self, it has more a Battlefront mix with hardline feel to it. sorry to shut you down man, but don't defend the game just because you are a fan of the game, critic it and expect more from the BF franchise for it to improve.

    I lost interest in battlefield once it stopped being a competative shooter. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare ruined everything when it comes to competative shooters, unlocking gear and equipment changed the focus away from gameplay and towards grinding. A competative game should give everyone the same equipment and gear from the get go, the appeal should be purely gameplay wise.
    I really do miss Battlefield 1942 and BF2. Not to mention all of their mods!
    Oh, and the fact that the older games had LAN support. It's one of the main reasons I'm never going to buy another EA shooter ever again, the lack of lan support negates every reason for buying it.

    Your thoughts on BF1 are spot on. Well done :)

    4 is hands down my favorite, but I picked it up like a year and a half ago so everything was fixed by then. I got everything for $20-$30 too, so that makes it a pretty good deal in my book!

    I feel like me and my friends are the only ones who like bf3 suppression.
