I can't even play WZ2 at a good looking 60fps on my 2060, it just doesnt stop stuttering no matter what.. yeah, for me cod is definitely still trash and I really tried to give it a chance
I can’t tell you how much I appreciated your comparison of Elden Ring and God of War. It’s exactly what makes gaming so special. They’re such different experiences and set out to entertain in their own ways but I loved them both the same.
It's worth mentioning that Stalker 2 and Replaced were offset by the war in Ukraine due to where the devs are based. So that's a fairly understandable delay. Also, somebody didn't play Pentiment... Highly recommend, very charming game.
2022 really felt like it was the peak of the shit corona had thrown at developers for me. It feels like there is only 2 giant games, elden ring and god of war, but barely any decent AAA small stuff or even AA quality games to have a shorter 10-15 hour playthrough with. Hope next year is better.

I loved your recap! To your point about preorders, 2022 finally convinced me to move over to the patient gamer camp. Callisto Protocol specifically had so many performance issues on launch that I decided I wouldn't be preordering anything anytime soon.
Only devs I’ll preorder from are RGG Studio, Project Aces, a couple PS developers (mostly Insomniac), and VERY occasionally maybe a Nintendo game… but lately Nintendo been fucking up hard, so idk.
You ought to play some armored core, I bought a few of them this year just because I always wanted to try them, but didn’t get around to it, then ac6 was announced and I just beat ac4 and it was so fun, I immediately started acFA and purchased a ps vita so I could play ac3, last Raven, and silent line. I’m obsessed and I highly recommend the series for anyone interested in from soft
I disagree with that 2021 was a let down in gaming. I think the fact that we didn't have a plethora of triple A games actually made me appreciate how AMAZING were the games of a slightly smaller budget like It Takes Two, Psychonauts 2, and Guardian of the Galaxy. Those three games were just as much enjoyable as the triple A games that we got this year or in the past. :)
The games I’m most excited about for next year are factions 2, FFXVI and Spiderman 2. Also I’ll finally play RE village for the first time, was waiting for PSVR2 to release.. 😅
Tonald! I know it might not be your jam, but you should try the steam version of Dwarf Fortress. It's really fun and deep and good for streaming, and much more accessible with the new controls.
Maybe I'm jaded for the gaming industry, but I started feeling repulsive for gaming industry and AAA games this year. Most of the new AAA games are either released incomplete or they're riddled with scummy monetization and the gameplay has been balanced to favor the whales, so I just couldn't care less about supporting such games. Apart from Monster Hunter Rise and MHR: Sunbreak expansion I didn't really buy any other big games this year. (Ragnarok was on my radar, but PS5's are STILL scarce, so...) I've been thinking of purchasing Elden Ring, but I have somewhat limited free time and I've been busy with smaller indie games and AA games.
Honestly I'm not that hyped for Starfield. Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but it just looks like more of the basic Bethesda design in a new setting. They always say things are going to be different and they're shaking up the formula, but it never turns out to be true. I hope I'm wrong, I love the idea of space exploration, but I don't think Bethesda has the balls to make anything interesting
Dude - you loved like all of my favorite games which is why I was a bit surprised not to hear any shoutouts for PENTIMENT. Have you not played it yet? And if so, gotta prioritize that baby! One of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in years.
Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous released in 2021, ya forgot that because its goty material with so many hours of replayability, maybe your not into crgp's? Its my most favorite genre tbh, beside 4x games like total war warhammer 3 (excellent fun game now with IE !) . However i feel like im the only one that just cant get into soulslike games, not my cup of tea :D And God of War somehow also didnt trigger me, same was for horizon... dunno why
2019 was a great Year because of Sekiro. 2020 was a great year because of Ghost of Tsushima. 2021 was an OK year because it had Sekiro AND Ghost of Tsushima DLC. And now 2022 was a GREAT year because of Elden Ring and God of War R. What point am I making? Fromsoft is a great developer that makes years and Sony’s quality exclusives have some of the heaviest hitters, Tsushima was a surprise for most (although I looked forward to it since the reveal) but God of War already proved itself in 2018 and delivered the hype in 2022!
i think 2023 is going to be even better (Marvel Spider Man 2, Hogwarts Legacy, RE4 Remake, AC Mirage, Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi Survivor and more..)
2021 was disappointing because one of the best games was a GzDoom total conversion Ashes Afterglow. Which you should check out because it's awesome. And free.
Next year is promising Final Fantasy 16, Starfield, Spider-Man 2, Jedi Survivor, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6 and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom among others. So long as at least 2 of those deliver then 2023 has already kicked the crap out of 2022.
I personally think 2022 has been the best year for gaming in a long time for me. Elden Ring in my new favorite game of all time, and SLARPG now in my #4 place.
In general with the amount of games (not just elden ring and god of war) that came out that year. 2022 was a solid B. There was something for everyone.

I just don’t play download games, nor do I like sidscrollers, platformers, or shooter games. That immediately rules out nearly all indie games. The only indie games I’ve ever played were less than half of Hollow Knight & a single level of Celeste. I’m much more of a JRPG, Exploration, monster collector fan. I played Xenoblade 1, 3, Pokémon Legends Arceus, Scarlet…and I think that’s it? I still haven’t beaten Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, & I haven’t even gotten to my copy of Doki Doki. I’ve just lost interest in playing games moreso than appreciating them. Heck, I never even finished Legends Arceus or Scarlet either. I finish less games now. Also, it is an absolute damn shame XC3 didn’t win OST of the year. It deserved that award, and I will die on that hill. GoW was an amazing game, but it’s OST doesn’t hold a candle to the 12 hours worth of music offered in XC3. Leakers couldn’t even leak out all the music in one day, it had to be spread out. And the producers created literal custom flutes to capture certain sounds & to immerse themselves into the games’ themes. Xenoblade is the first franchise to make me consistently cry to its OST. Sure, when I was 13 I got teary-eyed at Pokémon Moon’s end game music, but nothing compares to Xenoblade’s heartbreak.
I'd Honestly rather do every witcher 3's quests than do god of war ragnarok again. Didn't really enjoy that one but i can't argue against the fact that it's good.
See the only thing that keeps me going to it back as often is there isnt a way to skip cutscenes normally when im just in the mood to fight some enemies or bosses, The different animation cancels like Runic cancelling, Frost Awaken Cancelling , Fast throw spears, etc are what gets me to keep coming back theres still new cancels being found to this day and when i learn them its like finding a new toy to use in the combat of the game.
I think Callisto Protocol is a great game. I think most people's issue is they went in thinking it would just be Dead Space. Which makes sense since it's a horror game made by the Dead Space team. But it clearly wants to be its own thing. I went into it just wanting a good horror game with some interesting new things to it. It seems that a lot of people are just but hurt that it didn't do some aspect of Dead Space right. Just take the game as it own thing. Also, can a man get a spoiler warning for the GoW:R stuff man???
Shame no one who needs this info will see it but you can get full haptic support on those PC ports if you use ds4windows or any of the controller emulators with a PS5 controller. I don't think it works if you just use steam controller configuration. Those emulators are (mostly) free and also have neat features like gyro, key binds, etc. Not affiliated with any of them, just wish more PC gamers knew of these amazing free resources
Ps. To get full haptics you need to use the ps5 controller on USB. With a Bluetooth connection you only get partial haptics. Don't imagine using a cord for PC gaming will be a problem for most gamers because they don't tend to play on a massive TV
Maybe it's time to stop wishing for new Assassin's Creeds, Halos, etc, which is why gaming is feeling a lot stagnated nowadays. Indie and low profile games usually are much more willing to experiment and keep moving the gaming landscape forward, than those big AAA games that mostly care about profit over experience (Obviously this is not always the case).
Tbh I rarely see a indie game that makes me look in awe and say wow i gotta buy this, this looks good and interesting. so i highly doubt they will change the gaming landscape in any other way than they did at first. There needs to be changes from within triple A game devs and publishers, used to be less about the money and trying to sell you things at every turn rather than what actually matters most making an actual good and finished game.
And nowadays they're all concerned about being competitive and balanced rather than fun . Back when UA-cam wasnt as accessible and whatnot nobody was worried about whats meta in a game unless they were in a games competitive community and most just cared about having fun. There's many reasons gaming is stagnating, for example you got people defending game studios and game publisher when they're in the wrong.
Horizon and God of War were both big disappointments for me. Honestly, the last Sony exclusive franchise that I have any expectations out of is the next Spider-Man and I'm not even the biggest fan of the first one and the Miles add-on. I think Sony is failing to live up to the success that it had during the PS4 days.
