Can we just appreciate Devy's impeccable vocal here. Two decades later and performing as if he was laying down the original studio track. I swear, this guy's vocals have aged down. He only seems to have improved with age.
@@JustAPairofLegs it’s in one of the underground abandoned lab levels. I think the reason it’s an easter egg is Devin did the music for one of the older, 2Dish Fallout games.
20 odd years ago this was my gateway to Devin's music, I think it was on a Metal Hammer CD. Devin, that you can still hit those highs after so long makes me moist.
I've listened to this song a million times but this is the first time I can hear the actual riffs they play. Sounds worryingly good without cymbals too.
Dev's had cymbals pretty buried in a lot of mixes lately, but I think they're also lowered here because the recording/stream isn't a high bitrate, so you're losing a lot of the area above like 8-10khz, which is probably where they all sit
4:40 never truly picked up on the melody of the guitar notes on this little part of this track until I heard this version....kind of blew my mind that that's what it actually is behind that wall of sound 😂
I heard this in '98 as a young Aussie metalhead trying to find his way... This blew my mind. There's a live version where he switches from scream to straight up Dio. Dude's amazing. Edit: ua-cam.com/video/2qcQyMtP38w/v-deo.htmlsi=w7mUc_P8K0y8Tby_ That's the live link. Not my channel. Just, vocals... Bloody hell...
First and foremost I'd like to compliment everyone involved here. You guys all sound amazing. This song is still so badass. That being said I can see why Devy doesn't play it anymore. He really is a whole different person now than he was back then. As amazing as you sound Devy you sound like you're singing someone else's song. The first time I ever heard this song or anything by you it was live at the first sounds of the underground tour. I was an instant fan but I wasn't ready for the new direction you took when you parted ways with the band. I stayed a fan of your old tunes but didn't keep up with your career for a lengthy unknown period of time until I recently rediscovered you and your music. You became my Favorite musician overnight. I guess I just had some growing of my own to do to catch up with you. Now it sounds so strange to hear you singing the older material. It just doesn't sound quite right somehow. I think that's a good thing though. I'd take todays Devin Townsend over the devy of yesteryear any day, both musically and as a person. There's just no explaining how good it makes me feel to see your success and growth as a person and as a performer. Also your a total fox. I respect that you're a married man, but if you weren't I would have some serious intentions toward you that I would probably be way to awkward to properly express. But damn it Id have those fucking intentions for real. Being that you've been married for so long though Id be willing to bet that Mrs. Townsend had a hand in your growing into the awesome person that you are so I gotta respect her too (even if I am jealous). My admiration for you as a performer trumps my infatuation anyday.
I respect the shit out of that sudden declaration of love! Because you know what? You are right as hell! This guy is funny, charismatic, talented beyond comprehension and just what it seems to be a truly genuine and kind person that would be truly there for you in life. That's HOT AF if you ask me. Hope you are having a great day! ❤

Beginning guitar riff and drums are nearly identical to LALU's - The Final Fantasy intro riff, only difference Detox is sped up maybe 20 BPM. I know Devin had something to do with LALU btw. =]
What a great song, as powerful now as it was then, if not more. Still, why did I have to wait for 2:24 minutes to get a glimpse of the bassist, hmm? Anyway...

Love Devin, he still has the soul of a maniac and I'm happy to see him quite more relaxed since he's older. But nothing compares to the absolute crazy fury of SYL and the solo project is boring af. I miss the old times where Devin was just maniacal audio rage and a bit less hippy shit.
Damn I bashed Samus all this performance, but Detox was done great I mean he is a great drummer, I love his work on Empath and Decrepit Birth but simply he is not Gene. Ryan did this better on Retinal Circus. Sorry Samus
RVP is sick and extremely technical. Guy makes some awesome drum patterns. Gene is just... well he's the Atomic Clock. Love Samus too but damn I miss Gene.
@@MikeMike-jj8nd Not bashing the guy at all, he's fucking incredible. Same goes with Krimh that was supposed to tour with Dev over seas. Just the style of RVP and Gene seem to suite Devs music better in my humble opinion.
@@arekhautaluoma4276 Well Sammus uses more triggered sounds, so he doesnt need to hit hard. Hes more about finesse it seems. Gene can hit a drum and get a sampled sound without needing to use them. Hes so clean and plays with clarity.

This may be the heaviest song ever that’s played with a capo
idk, if you play any song in the right tuning it can use a capo.
