Optimizing Richter: Blade Dash Drifting
Since a number of Richter's movement options cover static distances, understanding how to manage your alignment in between those static options is a big factor in moving around smoothly. Controlling the drift between your blade dashes is a tool for this that's easy to overlook.

Sotn Richter - Mechanics Guide
Переглядів 86 тис.4 роки тому
*CC available* More or less a glossary for Richter in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. This is primarily aimed at teaching interested speedrunners of the game about the greatest platforming character of all time. It should be a good primer for either category you're interested in learning. That said, Richter is the kind of character who really needs a mechanics guide to supplement a room by ...

Castlevania: SotN - Richter any% "demo run"

A segmented run on the bizhawk emulator, for the purpose of showing human inputs throughout the any% route. I used an arcade stick but you might not. All strats used are from the world record as of upload date, except for Keep Skip. SotN Leaderboards: www.speedrun.com/sotn I stream: www.twitch.tv/rashaex I tweet: Rasha_EX

3rd Strike with friends. Mostly picked out entertaining bits instead of "good" gameplay, since that's more fun to watch (also we're bad so there wasn't much of that to be found). ...sorry I spent my time editing this and not the Richter tutorial Music: Penoreri - Dive I stream: www.twitch.tv/rashaex I tweet: Rasha_EX

WR on February 13th, 2019 I like the symmetry in this time. I'm not extremely confident about beating this time, which is a shame since it was another offline no mic run. Still, this is the biggest single time cut in over 3 years, so I have to be happy with it as-is. SotN Leaderboard: www.speedrun.com/sotn I stream: www.twitch.tv/rashaex I tweet: Rasha_EX

WR on February 7th, 2019 Another 1 second cut, I keep tossing in the final split. Many frames dropped because I guess my laptop is dying a slow death or something. Also trying not to play offstream as much, but I always play better offline...

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Richter Speedrun in 5:08.166
There is absolutely no way to move like this with the PlayStation controller. My maine gripe with these PlayStation ports is the lack of key binding. Why the hell do they make these moves require flicking the joystick or pressing the d-pad in several directions in conjunction with a button. Allow me to make the dash R1, the high jump R2, the windmill thing L1 etc. then this type of style would be possible.
funny thing is before I got decent people thought arcade stick was too slow and impractical. Any controller works, it just takes practice but that's why it's gratifying to improve at & pull off. I used to play on psp before taking up 360 so believe me it's possible (;´∀`) if you prefer no motion inputs then maybe check out the other alt characters like Julius or Albus!
@RashaEX wait so are you playing with an arcade controller or with an Xbox/PlayStation one? It's very hard to pull off these combos and moves consistently with the PlayStation controller, or so I find. I'm not a noob at gaming by any means. I just came from a hitless (bosses only) blasphemous 1 run so I have quick coordination and able to press buttons properly but it's the whole flicking the dpad and/or joystick that throws me off. Well, not so much throws me off as much as the inputs don't register consistently. For example, that sword brothers move I've only pulled off twice after 40 mins of pressing the same combo (as alucard). I was pressing the inputs exactly the same each time but after hundreds of attempts I only pulled it off twice. Still unsure how haha
@@RussianCanadianGuy Typically I use arcade stick like this video. Other world record holders for Richter all used Xbox or Playstation pad. They even threw me a Saturn controller for a marathon run once... If you're not getting the moves you're aiming for, I'd recommend opening up training mode in just about any fighting game that way you can look at your input history in real-time and diagnose exactly what's going wrong. You'd be surprised how easy it is to skip over a diagonal or something similar. Motion inputs are a skill of their own, just needs some targeted practice like anything else!
shits like a Tekken character guide lmao Love this game
Sakurai wasn't kidding when he said Simon also echoes Richter in Smash, not only the slide, vault kick, uppercut and blade dash are taken from Richter's SotN moveset but also some animations for movement like his run or the backflip.
i’ve never played richter mode despite SoTN being one of my favorite games, but this is quite possibly one of the best videos i’ve ever seen
Really well-done and in-depth video for a guy with fingernail polish on. Props to you for overcoming stereotypes!
Man this game so good. I want both a remaster and a reimagined remake. I have ps 1 classic version, still play it on the vita sometimes.
So that's how you dash
a unica skill que eu nunca consigo usar é a do backflip
Judgement wasn't the first Castlevania fighting game. It was in fact, Symphony of the Night.
Excellent work! This is an important video - the nuances and 'tech' aren't disseminated nearly enough, so it's great to see their being discussed at length here, as they would be for a shmup or a fighting game. Wonderful presentation and track choices, too. It was also nice to see the Q4RAF - it's such an execution-heavy game, even with Alucard at times, that I always play it on stick these days. Thanks for doing this!
I still can't do the blade dash with my Xbox 360 3rd party wired d-pad nor N3DS XL
Hydrostorm with damage stack slaps though don’t see using any other sub weapon
Thanks I needed this lmao just got done beating the game
This killed my thumbs 😅
Richter is effectively the hard mode of the game to newbies like me, since he has less specials than Alucard, no equipment, and he takes a lot of damage. But honestly all of that is offset by how OP his limited moveset is lol. So i guess he'd be a Glass Cannon kind of character in a Fighting Game.
I knew i heard this song before ua-cam.com/video/Gz0fAz9n_Os/v-deo.html
Funfact: if you hit any of the transformation buttons while dashing, you'll reset the after-image effect. There's no purpose aside from looking kind of cool.
The music, the video, the TEC, youre a legend
Really well thought out and executed video, much like the gameplay. Kudos!
Thanks for doing this! I'm not a speed runner, just playing for fun, but you are right, there is hardly any information online about the Richter mode. I'm having trouble with the jumps in the Colosseum, so I thought I'd look at some videos on UA-cam for tips and ideas.
Is there any version of the game in which the Flame Whip crash actually works as intended (double damage/Fire element)?
nope, flame whip doesn't do anything in any release of the game.
Promo*SM 🌷
Thanks rasha ..
I literally just watch a guy playing Castlevania sotn with fight stick. Crazy
Quick question for ya: does collecting the health upgrades do anything for Richter (other than refill his health, of course)? I noticed that you've been collecting them after Slogra/Gaibon and even the one on the first screen, but then avoided the ones from Olrox's Quarters and onwards.
Yes indeed, Richter starts at 50hp and gets +10 max hp with every health upgrade. There's enough time to grab the extras during the first two minutes since the ceiling in the clock room doesn't open until that much time has passed.
I neither play this game nor Speedrun anything, but I really enjoyed your video. I like learning about little niche tricks like this in videos; even if I will never use them. Good job, buddy, and keep up the good work!
UA-cam recommending some random stuff today
I’m no speedrunner, but this is still interesting. I’ve never been able to chain more than 3 blade dashes.
so dope
i like your BGM, tonality, content and edit. you should have at least 10k subs. i hope you can do more not only on castlevania but any game you're passionate with. you have my subscribe!
who on earth play castlevania using joystick? you should use hitbox.
Pra mim
Thanks a lot Man!
you are the best Castlevania teacher I ever had.
I've been playing the game for a day and didn't know the uppercut existed. 😂
bro needs more subs this quality content
I'm good thx though
I had no idea people play this like a fighting game but makes logical sense.... Good stuff hope you make a come back.
I've been playing the Richter mode just for fun, and the other day I decided (also just for fun) to do Doppelganger 40 without item crashes. Somehow that fight tapped into the Mortal Kombat part of my brain and I kept trying to do Sub-Zero ice blasts at him lol.
i like this video
I can almost never succesfully do the Blade Dash because I have a cheap controller with a cheap d-pad and it's always frustrating how I have so much difficulty doing it.
can u bot heal as ritcher ?
grabbing an HP Max Up refills your health and boosts max HP by 10. Only other way to heal is at save points.
I wish there was one of these for alucard, as well for aria of sorrow/dawn of sorrow for Soma and Julius
Excellent music list
Help when I do the uppercut movements and button presses it doesn't work
That blade dash input makes no sense to me.
it's basically Up followed by a quarter circle forward - numpad notation would be 823. If you can do hellfire with Alucard, you can blade dash.
This man is using a fight stick to place castlevania, unreal
It is like a fighting game
@@Anti-Yeet true, I commented before i actually played it and then I got the game and saw the spell list LMAO
Your execution is amazing, hurt to see that one little mistake at the end!
Watching the fluidity of the button press combos is insane in this category, doesn't surprise me that sometimes mistakes happen
Damn it... the run looked so good too...
the tenacity!!!!
this guide is amazing!!!!
