I’m going to wait for the Type R version!
I would LOVE that
As a double amputee I can see this as a good alternative to getting around large venues.
Have you thought about putting roller skates on your stumps?
@@angrytater2456genius
Not really cos if you stop you'll tip over.
@@yorkshire_tea_innit8097 "Don't stop, can't stop....."
As cool as it is to see the Motocompo making a comeback, I honestly don't see why would anyone choose this over an electric kick scooter or a folding ebike.
A more trusted and reliable name in transportation could be part of it. You're not wrong, but it's nice to have variety too. Some people might only buy a Honda and this is an option for them without buying a full-sized scooter.
This you could just get right on a city bus with. Or take inside a restaurant
@@JasonGage Yeah, but you also can with a folding bike or escooter
@@stargazer162 True. I didn't think about that
Or a onewheel for that matter, just as portable, just as fast, just as much range, and can charge faster…
This would be awesome for someone commuting by rail. The problem is weight. I wouldn't want to horse around 40 lbs. But, adding a foldable push bar, so it could be rolled around like luggage, would be a good improvement.
Now you say it, its such an obvious improvement I'm really surprised they havent incorporated one. Kudos!
@@nickrails
Very much so. They could probably add it to the handle bars if they folded somehow towards the front wheel.
You can keep the handle bar up just not in the open position (so basically keep it in pole-like position) and just use that as a handle to push it around while still keep it compact.
As someone with a heavy kickscooter (+70 lbs), I generally keep it unfolded and ride on transit either with it between my feet or if I manage to get a seat I scoot it under it. Although all of our stations are open though, I can't imagine being in a more closed system like NYC with my scooter tho.
@@MillywiggZ I would say the seat could be transformed into a push bar instead of folding and being put into the body for transport.
That is frigging cool as hell. I wished they had things like this when I was a teenager. To go to the store & visit friends.
You do. It’s called a bicycle.
@@MrMannyhw I agree, I would rather ride a bicycle.
They did. It was just gas though and it was faster.
They did… and it was cooler. I was called a honda motocompo
This has been around since the 1980s as the Honda Motocompo
This is perfect for me! I take the train to work, but it dumps me into a parking lot in the middle of nowehere; I need to take a bus to get to work after that. But with this I wouldn't have to wait for anything, and it's just another briefcase to take on the train!
Do you live in Bay Area and use Bart.
@@CK30585 I do and that's why I want one of these too.
@@ninjaundermyskin but it’s heavy
@@CK30585 I was thinking of taking my mountain bike on Bart, but it's just as heavy, and a lot bigger than this. If this thing rolls while in "briefcase" mode (like a piece of luggage), I think it would be a better alternative. I mean, I wouldn't try to take it up Potrero Hill, but doing around Soma and FiDi should be fine
@@ninjaundermyskin good luck.
In the UK our roads have things called potholes everywhere, often the size of a wash basin, that will demolish those tiny wheels.
Got 'em here in the USA too, but this thing at least goes slow enough to avoid the big ones.
Y’Got to learn to bunny-hop..🐰👍
So I'm guessing electric scooters didn't take off in the UK? Because the wheels are the same size as any average one
They’re technically illegal here anyway but you do see them on the pavements occasionally. Popular with phone and bag snatchers in London.
doesn't seem to be a problem for e scooters all over town
By the time you put it together, you could’ve walked to your destination
I love it! It’s soooo idealistic and compact! I love the fact that it looks like a suit case when folded. So storable and portable. I really want to buy it!
Honda was just bored 😅
Always has been, honda does wierd stuff I love it
East Asians are culturally risk averse. If they do take a chance, it’s usually pretty amazing.
No they weren't. This makes sense. These will be great in Japan cities and big cities. They knew what they were doing
I want to see a fat guy with that seat😂
@@ThePeacePlant - Also great for lazy car salesmen who don’t feel like running across huge lots
Question: "Why are the range and top speed numbers lower than the advertised ones on Amazon no-brand scooters?"
Answer: "Honda isn't just throwing numbers out there."
Because it’s Honda, they sell it for reputation and reliability not functionality.
@@blackwhirlwind1245 I do hope Honda has full parts and repair support, I was looking at the cheap scooter options on "The Jungle Site" and saw "you can't repair this thing" listed a few times.
Some electric scooters are getting insane. I ride motorcycle and have seen what road rash can do to a person. These new Electric scooters are reaching speeds fast enough to kill people. Or at very least give them road rash down to their bones if they fall. Truly smart on Honda for not making that
@@larryhouse3776 at 15mph max, you might as well just buy a regular bike for $100 and save $900, no range anxiety no need to keep charging it. This is just pointless product from Honda. Even a class 2 e-bike can go 20mph.
This thing is inferior to even basic stand up scooters, not to mention sitting down is the least comfortable way to do this. For $1,000, there are a tremendous number of very high performance scooters on the market, there's no reason to buy this thing unless you're a Honda fanboy.
Thank you for a nice presentation of a surprisingly cool must-have gadget.
Appreciate your comment!
This is pretty cool. Could fulfill that 'last mile' leg of a trip from a train station.
This is incredible! Super unique and functional!
It’s cool because it’s Honda but it’s late to the electric scooter market.
How many municipalities or states allow these on the road without registration or having a motorcycle license?
Very cool and practical. I can see more of these on the way, hopefully. Thanks for the review.
You're welcome
Cool, but would be cooler if you just pressed a button and it puts itself together
I got to ride one of these…. Biggest deal breakers…. Speed (15mph)….range (15 miles) ….and you have to carry it when not in use… it doesn’t drag along like a carryon
I was just thinking ‘why doesn’t it have that carry-on ability?’ Seems ridiculous to me.
Does the battery blow up when you're charging it
I could see this big with the RV crowd and college students. Large factories. I'm sure it's Honda reliable. Would have a nice aftermarket with seats and maybe handlebars. Custom wraps would be awesome.
V2 no doubt will have longer range and higher speed. They could have a winner.
College kids? Probably not. It's way too expensive for what it is.
@@tombaily29 California for sure. Kids drive BMWs to high school
I wouldn't buy this over an ebike or navi.
Do not expect higher speeds. The 15 mph limit is what keeps it from needing a licensed rider or registration and the rest. Otherwise, I bet you're right on range as well as more adjustment for the handlebars and seat heights.
@@viewsonvehicles an e-bike can go up to 28mph as a class 3 ebike, and it doesn’t require license, registration or insurance.
1k seems like a lot if you compare to what is available in the e-scooter market.
How does it handle bumps in the road?
no suspension is a bad thing. not every road is smooth. that would take 3-4months until some parts starts breaking because of the vibration. happened to my carbon light weight scooter. bearing in front wheel gave up after few months. even after repair, it gave up again. I used it for everyday, 14km a day. my light weight scooter is not for that, and this seems to me to be the same. :D
There are so many things wrong with this concept... what if it's wet our after a ran and you drive through mud puddles?... are you going to carry it into your class? where are you going to "park" it? what if your destination is more than 6 miles away and you have to charge it before you can go home? your boss or school is not going to just eat hundreds or even thousands of dollars in extra electricity bills and may not even want your lithium battery in or even near the building in case of fire... and if they do, their fire insurance will probably skyrocket...
@@t.c.2776this is more for fun than anything else. Most people wouldn't go with this as a short commute transportation option because ATEOTD, it's just impractical.
Road???? I doubt you could even insure this thing. I would be surprised if at only 15 mph it is street legal. 15 when all the cars and trucks are doing 30, 40, 50 mph. It's not for the road. No suspension and very poor road clearance or sidewalks with uneven surfaces means catching the concrete between the two wheels....not for me.
@@t.c.2776 geez relax man. what's next, bananas are the worst fruit because you can slip on the peel and die? LOL
It's a piece of junk
Do they make tire socks for snow and ice?
I can't wait to see what people do to upgrade these
I gotta ride one of those coolers that had a motor on it. It was awesome. Now i wanna try this
Boosted Board seems to be a more practical option for a carry-on last-mile connectivity.
The carry handle looks like its in a position where it will get a lot of wear just from turning. It should have had a way to flatten itself into the handle shaft so it wouldn't get damaged over time.
Is there any way to get this in Europe? I couldn't find any source on that. Alternatively, is there any US dealer that would be willing to ship it to e.g. Germany? My wife would love this bike!
They should have nets or pockets on the side for work documents just like a brief case
How does it handle rain?
how does it handle off road?
I don't see how this is a better option than any number of cheaper electric scooters. But, I think it's pretty neat.
How do carry your other luggage on that thing !?
You put this in the trunk of your Tesla so when it runs out of juice 7 miles from your destination, you can still get there
You’d have to be an imbecile to run out of juice in a Tesla.
Where can I buy the bell separately 🙂
This is everything I need at the moment ❤️
I’m just worried about stability and the feel of riding it. Usually I leave the house with a heavy backpack bare minimum
Does it turn in to a table
I like the deep breath he takes before ripping out of there on a scooter that does 10mph 😂😂
What happens when you hit a pot hole at 15mph?
My work is 23 km away will this work
Warranty? How challenging to fix?
I have a Yuneec Ego for my "last mile" trips. 12mph, 15mile range, 4hr charge, 15lbs, PLUS it has a USB port I can use for charging my phone or laptop on the go.
And its been super reliable and fun!
It's awesome, useful and easy. As an electric scooter user for years and now using Dualtron fastest electric scooter I'm still hoping to get one of these if not built one myself. Since the law in Spain doesn't let us go to 40 mph (65Km/h) ... I prefer this case of electric suit box from Honda.
Is it has Vtec with 11000 RPM?
I can't wait to see this in "Beast Mode!"
How is it on wet tarmac? and would it stop well on wet pavement. Any alternative tires for it?
The rubber felt quite soft, light rain would be no problem.
I have a Honda Fit and NEED this!
I bought 1, it's neat, unique, alien in a way. It stands out on the beach routes. People wha wha over it.
How much was it?
"It's not fast, it's not exhilarating."
Modders: Challenge accepted.
Isn't a battery scooter much better, being lighter and physically smaller, therefore more portable?
Why not wrap it in thin solar panels? It’d charge it self when tilted over while stationary. You could always diy I guess
whens the TYPE-R coming out !! wheres the mod's ????
I want a suitcase like this so I can ride it up to the boarding gate
I don't have a factory and don't need to replace conveyor belt motors for a production line.
This costs money? I am not sure I'd agree to be seen around town on THAT if Honda paid me $1,000.
WOW ... COOL , I would like one !
Don’t see any hill test. Why?
Needs a button to pack/unpack on demand..Also more staying power on charge and portable charger..
Looks okay for something like New York or Tokyo where the ground is always flat and smooth for the most part, with bike lanes. This would be a nightmare to ride in Vegas because of elevation and the terrible/random condition of the roads and pavements. I have a UScooter and it also has solid wheels with minimum style suspension and it's not great, the road rattles your hands into abject pain, imagine what it's doing to the components and wiring, probably one reason why mine only lasted a year, that and a single motor isn't enough for my needs, it's basically a side walk only scooter, anything rougher than sidewalk pavement is uncomfortable if not damaging.
I worked for an agency putting these together and it is easy.
Looks like a nut irradiator. Any EMF protection on this thing?
I once had an idea to put wheels on a folding table; sucks that someone beat me to it.
The amount of time it takes to tetris this thing open and closing would be just about the same amount of time it would take to walk that last mile.
Imagine bar crawling with it. By the end you wouldn't be able to figure the damn thing out.
Very creative idea! Can you have backup battery for this motocompacto for longer ride? Thanks!
Not right now, no. But I can't help but think something will come soon.
How did this idea get past the first meeting?
Great. I'd buy one. It's very practical.
Surprised how awkward the folding / unfolding process is. Also surprised that there's no way to wheel it around with the handle extended to a comfortable height.
Lol, looks like someone at Honda had the same dream as me. I used to do 45min walk to work 5-6 days a week, had a dream about 10yrs ago that I bought something very similar to this and was riding it to and from work.
How much though
how steep of a hill it can handle?
Can you drive it on the road with regular traffic?
I certainly wouldn't.
Can’t wait for the 6 cylinder!
Great idea but looks like a pretty rough prototype when assembling and putting away.
As my teachers always said at school....Needs more work!!
OK to get you from the terminal to your Learjet I suppose
18,5 kilogram.
24 km speed.
19 km range.
🤙🏼
Nice conversions! Though, I do get 18.6 kg. Either way, appreciate the metric units for all of my non U.S. viewers.
@@viewsonvehicles But you said "up to 50mph"... and that‘s around 80km/h (?)
Can it go that fast?
@@MoutinhoNuno I said up to 15 mph, but maybe I should've enunciated more. Hope that clears things up.
@@viewsonvehicles Sorry, my bad. That makes more sense. I was imagining that briefcase going 50 😅
@@MoutinhoNuno Ha, I would definitely still want to test it!
Can the battery last a ful, day of use?
Honda claims 12 miles of range, depends on your day I suppose.
It's a batry in suitcase size with 2 weels and a bar, cool!
Hills?
can you take it on the plane tho?
why this thing if we already have EUC (electric unicycles) that are more fun and easier to carry
I want this.
Do they make baskets for it?
Honda doesn't offer one at the moment, I bet the aftermarket will soon enough: motocompacto.corpmerchandise.com/
It would be cool if it wasn't only sold through dealerships that markup the price to about 1500 before taxes and fees.
Thorough demo!!
Thank you!
I like the idea but 40 pounds is still pretty heavy. Whereas the Arma Scooter is 10lbs and can fold into an easily held package which can also fit in a backpack. The Arma has less range though, But I suspect 7 miles is more than enough to get to an office from mass transit. I’m leaning towards the Arma simply because it’s a much more compact and easier to carry package.
Its just an electric scooter with a seat for 2x the price
I see no way to lock it up. So either you have to fold it up and take it in with you every time you go into a store or wherever, or you have to accept that you are going to need a replacement as soon as someone picks it up and runs off with it the first time you take your eyes off it. It needs a hole through the center for a big cable lock or something.
If you’d actually read into the product, it has a “steel welded lock loop on the kickstand is designed to be compatible with most bike locks.”
@devinwright3714 is correct. I say so myself in this written review: gearjunkie.com/motors/honda-motocompacto-review
I replied based on the content of the video review I watched where no such locking points were mentioned. Had I actually been interested in the product enough to independently research further and find out about the loop on the kickstand, I wouldn't have commented about the lack of any way to lock it up. I would have instead commented on the pointlessness of locking it up via a removable part.
@@bootwheelwingandkeel5506- The Kickstand isn't removable.
I'll just stick to my Gotrax Flex. This is OK for someone who may need it for work, say if you work in a huge warehouse and need it to go across acres. Or someone who does errands in an airport, etc.
Pit bike at the track or for those us with planes, trips from our T-hanger to terminal and forth. But those tiny wheels! Can’t be smooth riding or very safe a dirt/gravel surfaces.
Sort of cool but I'd either use a folding bicycle or maybe an e-bike. I'm 61, I can still pedal a bicycle a few miles from the train to work if I have to.
Can you roll it like a rolling suitcase?
It's not built to do that, no
looks like a mini picnic table with wheels
Is this street legal?
Im 6ft 250 is this a good beginner bike for cross country I wanna go to bike week in Daytona
Weight limit is 250 .
@@2022streetbobwheelies I better find a smaller woman to put on back of it going down i90. Does it have a trailer hitch and a side car.
I’m actually getting one
That’s an understatement. 😊
I think I like the earlier version of the Motocampo more. This one looks more like a briefcase on wheels and has less ground clearance than the original.
I cant wait to get one, already know they will be double msrp once they make it to nz/australia with import taxes and "mark it up because why not"
Will be great to put in the boot of my car, park somehwere there is free parking and zoom to my destination instead of paying $8-14/hr parking in town
How comfortable is that seat?
Totally fine for the time I spend on it.
