Hi Darren , i understand deeply what you show for your feelings about Malaysia ..thats the best of country in South East Asia i ever visited , feel like home sweet home when landing there ..Malaysia Truly Asia ! Really mean it ..
I've visited most countries in Asia, and Malaysia is my favourite. As you said - the people, the mix of cultures, the public transport, the prices, and of course the food....all excellent!
This is very positive comments about Malaysia. Thank you and stay peacefully in Malaysia. We are Malaysian and we are multicultural. We love peoples and accept all the differences and uniquely.
I absolutely LOVE Malaysia, its natural beauty, culture and food, but most importantly its people. I've been branded an undercover Malaysian many a time on UA-cam, precisely for saying things like that. But having been to this wonderful nation several times, I think I can speak from a bit of experience. I haven't, however, been to Borneo, so that's definitely on the bucket list.
Can you tell us the name of the apartment you're staying in? Is it in a hotel? For the reasons you gave, I love Malaysia too. My third time visiting, last year, I was at the airport having just arrived and wanted something to drink. I was at a store wanting to buy a soft drink for 20RM but realized I had only 8RM 'cause I didn't exchange money yet. An older gentlemen standing next to me offered to buy it for me. I didn't let him but I was really impressed by his kindness. Btw, another reason I think Malaysia is great is they also have western style food that I often can't get in the Asian country I'm living in. So in addition to Malaysian cooking, I can enjoy western dishes like back home that I miss. To some degree I think Malaysia is a hidden gem though more people are discovering it.
Hi, I am staying in an apartment, but will do an apartment tour later in the week, revealing all. I had a similar scenario where I went to a shop, and I realised I didn't have any money, so told the shopkeeper that I'd go to the ATM, and come back. He told me to take the drinks and bring the money later, which again blew my mind. When I returned with the money he gave me the drinks for free, and said that I am a trustworthy person, so have them on me. I could write a book about the stories from the last 3 years that I've not discussed on videos.
Malaysian here.. If you are paying Rm20 for a soft drink somebody is ripping u off.. A can cost around Rm2 usually in convenient stores, altho restaurants might sell up to rm5-7
I made an error. The soft drink was a plastic bottle and around RM5-6 but I was also trying to buy a newspaper if I recall. I didn't have enough to buy both. So the gentlemen offered to buy me the soft drink. :-)
I'm a Filipino and have been in Malaysia 2x for training. First was in KL and the 2nd was in Damai Laut. The people are great and the food as well. A truly peaceful and relaxing place compared to where i'm from. Planning for my MM2H in 3 years or less.
Hi Andy, it sure is. I'd love to spend longer here in the future, and visit Sabah, Sarawak and some of the islands and cities like lpoh. Kuala Lumpur always drags me back though because it's such a great city to visit.
Thanks for sharing, Darren :) I'm really happy to know that you enjoyed Malaysia. Gonna post this on to my facebook page. Do you have a facebook account which I can tag?
I know Malaysia is a pluralistic society with many different cultures and religions, but if there's any Muslim-majority country I'd readily recommend for the hospitable cultural experience alone, it'd be Malaysia. Believe me, I've been to a few.
I have been watched many videos about a westerner talk about malaysia. This one is the most positive. Thanks for giving positive comment about my country. I give u 1 tips, u or other westerner also can be a famous celebrity if u can speak malay here. 😃
Haha I watched the westerner UA-camr who could speak brilliant Malay, when I come back and stay for three months, I need you all to teach me how to speak Malay! 😬

When you live in the country, sometimes it is easy to forget. I'm the same with England - with all the political turmoil that's going on and negative news, you need something to remind you that's not all that bad.
I love your positive outlook on this country and I feel the same. The people are very friendly. I was there in 2011 till 2013 and miss this country so much. Cannot wait to go back
One thing you said Darren really connected with me. I was a seaman for 32 years and have been all round the world. I started working on bulk carriers which stayed in port any where from one week to a month. When people ask me the best country I have been to , I tell them without hesitation that the best places are the places where I have been fortunate to make good friends. Then I realized that these places were always the remote ports with only small towns or villages nearby. I remember there were 300 hundred local people at the port of St. Vincente in Chile to see us off after 3 weeks in port. My Chilean friends wrote me to say that this was reported in their local with pictures the next day. They said this had never happened before. In retrospect, I have come to realize why this happened. Like me, 80 % of the crew were Malaysians. It does indeed take two hands to clap. Being brought up in a multi racial country has made it easier to get along with people of different cultures. We have come to see that there are only two different colors in this world, the color good and the color bad.
@@remotedarren Once you have grown up with someone and formed a strong friendship you stop thinking in terms of color, creed or religion. Thanks for the acknowledgement and appreciation.

Hi Eddy, there's no such thing as a perfect country, and there are good and bad people everywhere, just as they are good and bad things about every country. I prefer to focus on the positive, because there is so much negativity in the world. Borneo, Sarawak and Sabah are certainly on my list for the next time I visit Malaysia. 👍

Hi Darren...it has been a pleasure watching your video with all the nice and positive compliments about my country, Malaysia. Most of the international visitors/travellers that I 've met in KL and other main cities in Malaysia often told me that Malaysia as one of the preferred holiday destinations or destination for retirement in Asia lie on these four main important factors: 1. The friendliness of its people 2. Foods 3. Cultural diversity 4. Cost of living compared to other major Asian cities. These are generally the reasons why Malaysia is well-liked or favoured by most foreigners. Keep up with your good work and spirit, Darren! Hope to watch you again in your next video! Malaysians certainly love your positive attitude. :-)
Dear Sir, as a Malaysian, I would like to thank you for your positive reviews about Malaysia. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in Malaysian. We always welcome you to be back in Malaysia anytime as you like. Cheers and all the best for you, sir.
Thank you, I am Malaysian Chinese. I do think Malaysia is a great country after visiting the other countries. We have everything here, all sort of food n cafes. I appreciate my country.
I am a retired American am currently visiting Penang / George Town for my first Malaysian experience have really been impressed here with the warm and welcoming people and the amazing food. Tomorrow will be visiting KL for the first time am excited to see it I have been to most countries in Asia and so far this is one of my favorites. I cold see living here if I can sort out the long term visa requirements. Nice video by the way!
Im a Singaporean and absolutely love this video! Yes for us Malay Muslims, KL is a halal food haven and it is hard to keep in shape here! In fact, my family is going up north for a foodie tour soon!
A Brit having Fish and Chips in Malaysia and then getting food poisoning LOL. Poor Darren. He needs to come home and get some proper Fish and Chips from his local chippy.
If you look in history native malays they’re nice to foreigners. But if foreigners trying to take away what is rightfully theirs they will fight till the end. Ask the portuguese, dutch, british east indies, japan etc etc.
We always welcome you back bro. We as a malaysian are always wanted to help the tourists. Cus we got this feeling of responsibility to help the tourists, when you got your answers, we felt that we've done our job as a Malaysian and proud to be one. You need to tell your friends bout this, dont be afraid to ask cus we dont charge you anything for answers like they did in thailand. Haha 😂
Haha, that's another reason why I love Malaysia - don't feel like that you are being ripped off all the time like in some countries we won't mention. Thanks for the comment 😀
Yes, I'll miss it too. So much to explore and discover walking around the streets and neighbourhoods. Looking forward to my travels over the next 6 months, so will be revealing more about that soon.
It really touched my heart when you shared the story about your neighbour giving you the tray of eggs. I was a teenager when I followed Dad to live in Malaysia. There were only the two of us and Dad works offshore A LOT back then. So I was left to my own devices. I WAS NEVER LEFT FOR WANTING when it comes to food! Every single day, pretty much every single meal, all my neighbouring aunties and uncles will give me the food they made for their family. Every single day, without fail, without my Dad arranging anything, without me asking, without us paying or giving anything back. I still live with that spirit of giving until today. They have not only made me feel loved and welcomed, they have also instilled in me the spirit of giving which I hope I will pass on to my kids someday! Oh, and YAYYY NASI LEMAK!!
Malaysians should be more thankful for public transports. Most tourists that make vlogs say that public transport is one of the pros of Malaysia. We need to appreciate it more
@@alicezakarian4827 What are you even talking about. I don't understand a thing, just some wrongly spelled stupid and rubbish. You made a sensitive Malaysian say bodo yo.
I agree, I'm in Penang at the moment and just last week, I went to watch the sunset in a beach bar/restaurant and I had a bit of money around 70 ringgit but asked if I could pay via card, one of the staff must have misunderstood me and said yes, so after my bill came it was around 120 Ringgit, I gave my card and they said they didn't take it. Solution: expecting to have to go to a ATM , they said just send us the money online when you get home. Imagine that trust elsewhere! Blew me away, I actually paid online via Transferwise app in the end at the bar .
Nice sharing 👍, I am a mixed, from Chinese - Malay family in Kelantan. Actually, it is one of the old tradisional culture, the people will welcome others the most, especially when the tourist act politely & nicely, that is what they will get in return. The local will really appreciate outsider with good manners, what you give is what you'll get back in return, especially when we are talking about rural, village people, they are more nicer compare to those who live in the urban cities.

Thank you so much for the kind comment. Yes, Malaysia is a beautiful country to be in. I migrated but decided to retire in Malaysia since my aging mum doesn't want to go over to where I migrated. I am glad that I came back... food, people and cost of living very very affordable.
I agree with you Darren. I am also a Brit married to a Malaysian Chinese and we have visited Malaysia every year since 1980. We have our own condo in Klebang, Melaka but travel all over Malaysia. Lovely people and great food. Who needs to go anywhere else.
Thanks Pete, I think I might start doing one sit down vlog a week, talking about a particular topic. As for returning home, sadly, on Saturday I will be flying back home via Dubai. Make sure the runway is ready for me 😂
I think Malaysians / Asians are generally friendly people. We will try to understand, with patience, foreigners who don't speak our language. When I visited some countries of another continent, people just ignored me when I don't speak their language. LOL. Malaysia, is especially blessed because we don't have natural disasters such as typhoon, volcanoes, earthquakes etc.

Malaysia food is definitely one of its charm that attracts everyone, even a local like myself. We came from the land of Sarawak and coming here to live in KL (for work), we met so many lovely colleagues who are from Penang, Kelantan, Malacca, Johor. etc. Everyday, we learn something new about the food that they talk about from their hometown and vice versa. We talk about food in Sarawak (kolo mee, sarawak laksa, umai, ayam pansuh, etc) and they tell us about nasi dagang, kuih badak berendam, etc. I believe that every food has a story and always, people are happy to share their story of their favourite food with us. Oh yeah, thank you for sharing your story about having the lovely nasi lemak. And you're always welcome here in Malaysia!

Been to Malaysia twice and going back in February 2020, love your channel, definitely make Malaysia home when I retire in 5 years.
It's certainly a place that's on my short list to retire in! Have fun. I'll be back in Malaysia in 2020 too.

But politic everywhere is sucks, not only in Malaysia 😂 😂

I absolutely LOVE Malaysia, its natural beauty, culture and food, but most importantly its people. I've been branded an undercover Malaysian many a time on UA-cam, precisely for saying things like that. But having been to this wonderful nation several times, I think I can speak from a bit of experience. I haven't, however, been to Borneo, so that's definitely on the bucket list.
where are from?
i saw your comment in other video and someone say he track your ip come from malaysia.(sorry for my eng)
you got no content at all in your account. you should add some to fight the accusation
I love Borneo..the people ,the beautiful landscape
You must visit Borneo, especially Sarawak (the other malaydian Borneo state Sabah has too many foreigners). Sarawak is even better than West Malaysia.
Tks for reminding us how good Malaysia as we are proud to be Malaysian!
This is true. Most I've paid is 2-3RM for a can, but I guess they could have been buying a 2litre bottle.
keyword here--airport..but i think that is way too overpriced even at the airport..
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Andy, it sure is. I'd love to spend longer here in the future, and visit Sabah, Sarawak and some of the islands and cities like lpoh. Kuala Lumpur always drags me back though because it's such a great city to visit.

I know Malaysia is a pluralistic society with many different cultures and religions, but if there's any Muslim-majority country I'd readily recommend for the hospitable cultural experience alone, it'd be Malaysia. Believe me, I've been to a few.

Thank you for reminding me how great my country is.
Cannot wait to go back
You should, Jared. So much transformation going on right now too, especially in cities like Kuala Lumpur.
Great comment! :)
@@remotedarren
Once you have grown up with someone and formed a strong friendship you stop thinking in terms of color, creed or religion.

nice..im form Sabah (land below the wind).
Eddy Agus Why is Sabah reffered to as the land below the wind?
evelyn latou
Sabah (North Borneo) is often referred to as “The land below the wind”, because of its location just south of the typhoon-prone region around the Philippines.
Eddy Agus Thank you for your reply, but is Sabah vulnerable to typhoons too like how Philippines is?

Hi Darren...it has been a pleasure watching your video with all the nice and positive compliments about my country, Malaysia. Most of the international visitors/travellers that I 've met in KL and other main cities in Malaysia often told me that Malaysia as one of the preferred holiday destinations or destination for retirement in Asia lie on these four main important factors:
1. The friendliness of its people
2. Foods
3. Cultural diversity
4. Cost of living compared to other major Asian cities.
These are generally the reasons why Malaysia is well-liked or favoured by most foreigners.
Keep up with your good work and spirit, Darren! Hope to watch you again in your next video!
Malaysians certainly love your positive attitude. :-)
Thanks for the comment, Sam.

Great story, thank you for taking the time to share this. You should check out my latest Nasi Lemak video if you haven't already :D

Malaysians should be more thankful for public transports. Most tourists that make vlogs say that public transport is one of the pros of Malaysia. We need to appreciate it more
